It's a damn shame that Are We There Yet? could still be in 3rd place with such acclaimed films as Hotel Rwanda, Million Dollar Baby and Sideways also available to see.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) The Ring = The Grudge.....they both sucked. Most people would disagree with you on this one. While I didn't like the Ring that much more than The Grudge the production design or actual art aspect one the movie was far superior. In my opinion, both were far above average "horror" movies.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) Watched The Grudge and AVP tonight.. Jason.. I think it was you that told me AVP was great.. and it was. I was glued to the tv. The Grudge, IMO, sucked. I'm going to go against this trend here and say I liked The Grudge more than AvP. In my opinion AvP was generic crap whereas The Grudge is only a step in turning the Ju-On franchise into total crap and therefore being superior. I actually didn't think The Grudge was much worse than any of the Asian versions, but for whatever reasons it seems like most people did.

Went and saw Hotel Rwanda tonight with my parents and wow was it ever powerful. I had very limited knowledge of the Rwandan genocide and this film really opened my eyes. Nearly 1 million were killed in these events and no one came to their aid, except for a limited number of UN peace keepers. Surprisingly, one of the main characters in the movie was Colonel Oliver a Canadian UN soldier played by Nick Nolte modeled in part on Romeo Dollaire, a Canadian hero . Anyways the star of this movie was Don Cheadle, his career's obvious piece de resistance as the factually based heroic Hotel manager who saved the lives of many. Also starring is the wife of Cheadle's character played by Sophie Okonedo who is actually Oscar nominated for her beautifully played role. Also starring in smaller surprise roles were Jean Reno and Joaquin Phoenix. Anyways this is obviously a great film which everyone should see. Especially those of us who don't believe people of black skin are treated differently than those who have white skin. 9/10 (Loses a point perhaps temporarily for being a bit confusing as to the different groups in Rwanda ie Hutus, Tootsis, and Interahamwe. Could have gone a little deeper with the history aspect of the incident.)

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) All I'll say is that after watching Jude Law in Closer, I don't want him to be the next Bond. Owen would probably be my choice, but as Ribbie said, he might be too old. Clive Owen is not too old just watch him in The Hire movies and you know he'd be a perfect Bond.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) If that's true then why are the no plans to "do" Venezuela? Or Russia? Also, if not for U.S. support there would have very likely been a second holacaust against the Jews, this time perpetrated by "those little brown people" you keep alluding to who's stated national policy was and in some cases still is "the complete annihilation of the Zionist state". It's already been proved that the U.S. doesn't really give a s*** about tyrannical leaders. Uzbekistan is a perfect example of this. While it's leader is often accused of some of the worst human rights abuse the U.S. has still formed a military alliance with them. I'm not expert on this subject I might add, and further opinions would be nice.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Uhh, that was being covered on other news channels as well and in the same context. I just happened to be watching Fox at the time. Bringing me to the bigger point THE MEDIA: KEEPING AMERICA SCARED

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) I was watching that on Fox News as it was happening. It appears to have all been a false alarm. Thank god! FOX NEWS: KEEPING AMERICA SCARED

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) It's Tarantino, he's famous for making washed up actors great. Throw any shlop in there and Tarantino would make him golden until he was exposed in another film. Just not Jude Law. He's a shlop no matter what. It's an interesting story nonetheless. I'm not a Bond fan, and my loyalty to Tarantino has dropped dramatically since Kill Bill, but I'd go to the theatre's to see Tarantino's Casino Royale. Well Martin Campbell is directing so fuggedaboutit!
-
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) Word is Tarantino wants to direct it. He must have way too much going on right now to be directing another movie. Right now he's going to be starring and producing in a movie called Hell Ride. He's also supposed to be directing another Kung Fu homage movie (Untitled Quentin Tarantino Project) and then after that's he supposed to be directing a World War 2 prison escape (Inglorious Bastards) flick starring Michael Madsen and maybe Adam Sandler. Then throw in the fact that he wants to do a Vega Bros movie and another Kill Bill movie in 15 years, I don't see James Bond in his future. EDIT: I guess it's official that Martin Campbell will be directing anyway.

Alright back to talking about movies. I saw an awesome film tonight called Amores Perros or in English 'Love's a b****'. Amores Perros is nearly perfect filmmaking from Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams). Garcia Gael instantly becomes one of my favorite actors and this is the only film I've seen with him. I definitely have to see Motorcycle Diaries and 21 Grams now. If you haven't seen this movie, what's stopping you. Get out there and see it. 9/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245712/ trailer http://images.hollywood.com/images/quickti...moresperros.mov
