QUOTE(thelatinoheat_30 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) i know things are self-induced, but does he really have to say that phrase every single game? i don't think so. and yes, he does give a ton of credit to ozzie, but its like during the middle of game, trying to slight jerry manuel. that's what i don't like, it's like he does it more to insult jerry than to praise ozzie, real tough guy subtly rippin on him when he's gone. also, i do believe hawk does curse the hard hit balls cause they look like they're homers easy and then for some reason they die when he says "stretch", look for it. bias can be good but he goes way too far w/ it. 1) He doesn't say it every game...you're exaggerating 2) Manual has been mentioned very few times this year...Hawk isn't out to insult Jerry 3) Curses are for the Northside of town....Hawk does nothing to change the ball flight mid air. It's either gonna go out or its not....I don't give a s*** what Hawk says.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) Very good point. This aspect of his announcing is overlooked, he criticizes but doesn't go overboard with it. He criticizes quite a bit, it's more muted than his praise but certain guys he is always on their back ... Contreras for one. yeah he said it last week...during the first Oakland game. Something like the sox were on a high after Buehrle, McCarthy and Freddy pitched well in Detroit...they won a close one with Mark and they won on the 13th with Franks homer in the second and had a solid outing from Freddy in the third...and now they are all back on their heals, in the field forever, with Jose walking 7 people, going full with every batter, giving runs away, yada yada yada. Hawk didn't call Contreras a bum and start preaching trade, but he made his dig and let it go.

I remember an old one with Anabella Sciorra probably early 90's that had an ending that totally through me for a loop. I think it was called Whispers are dark or Whispers in dark...soemthing like that... Trippy ending...For those that liek to try and figure movies out....watch it and see if you can.

QUOTE(thelatinoheat_30 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) i used to like him, but his stupid repetitive hawkisms are getting annoying. always talking about "everything is self-induced" and prolly the worst part is when there's a deep fly ball, he always does his "stretch, stretch" call and it RARELY is a homer, maybe 9 out of 10 times he says it, its just an out, it's like a curse, does anyone else notice this? he also tends to be too much of a homer and thinks he knows everything cause he's been around for 43 years. and whenever something good happens, he has to mention how ozzie was somehow involved. and the list goes on and on. also, does anyone notice how dj does a much better job of technical analysis w/a different partner on sat. games of the week than w/ hawk? i think that says a lot about hawk. personally, i'd like to see dj stay(brings some comic relief and solid analysis), hawk can go and bring in steve stone, someone w/ knowledgeable, unbiased analysis. also, the "put it on the board" is getting kinda old. Thousands of people use 'Hawkisms' every day. I hardly think he or the sox give a s*** what you or a few others...(probably a couple hundred or less) think. He has coined more baseball phrases then most announcers combined. A lot of things in baseball ARE self induced. There are good pitchers that jam hitters and there are times hitters swing for something specific and jam themselves. That is self induced and he says so. He also says when the oppostion pitcher throws a good pitchers pitch to get a guy out. He does give Ozzie a lot of credit....not as much as you are hinting at, but he does and guess what....the sox are in first place and have the best record in baseball so it's well deserved. He usually mentions Ozzie when the team comes back...and he should....The manager is usually in charge of keeping the players in the game and believeing they can overcome any deficit. The reason he is saying 'stretch stretch' is because it probably isn't a homerun. It's more like a 50-50 chance. It's gonna be close and he knows it...he's asking for it to get outta there...is that so wrong?? Do you honestly think that because of Hawk saying something, the ball is staying in the park?? Do you want him to say 'stretch' on sure thing homers...so then you can b**** about him saying 'stretch' when it's already going out of the park. I hear people b**** about that too. Fact is, if you don't like him you will find anything to b**** about....if you do like him...you'll overlook things like, where the ball actually lands when it's hit deep and realize he wants it out of there just as much as you do. Yeah Hawk is biased. I like it biased, I want it biased. He doesn't point out every single mistake the guys make, but he'll say 'he didn't get the job done right there' 'he didn't take any pitches' 'he had him 0-2 and played around with him and lost em' He'll point out mistakes...he doesn't call players dumbasses and s***heads when they make a mistake, like the people on this board, but he'll generally point it out. Long live the Hawk!! DJ has gotten better since he started, but I would hardly call him a good color or PBP guy.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) I think for the most part if you are a Sox fan you'll love Hawk, but i'd find it impossible to like Hawk if i was a fan of another team. He's just part of white sox baseball. Sure, he's a huge homer sometimes, but i'm just so used to white sox baseball with him that i couldn't imagine it without him. Hell, i use Hawkisms in every day life without even thinking about it. Like someone said earlier, just take some things with a grain of salt. And if nothing else, just wait for DJ to say "just don't strap it on" again. Am i the only one that can't get that out of my head? Probably the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard on air. Oh the strap it on comment was classic. I was dying laughing and my wife, (who was in the other room) couldn't figure out what I thought was so funny during a baseball game. There was like an 15 second awkward silence right after that.

US Cellular Field Shuttle Busses

QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) Thanks everyone for your responses. I just hate paying $17 but I heard that Lot G is $8 if you get there an hour and a half before gametime. Can you park there 2 hrs before gametime, and what about if you get there just 1 hr before gametime; does it fill up quickly?? I hate being on such a tight budget. BTW, why do all my threads get off topic and get out of hand? Go park at Schallers and walk. It's free. -

I've also seen that bus at Yorktown...I don't think they have anything like that for the cell. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Just in case anyone else out there really enjoys watching Podsednik beat up on Derek Jeter...here's another poll for you. ESPN.Com's sportsnation has a poll up asking "who deserves the all star bid more, Podsednik or Jeter" Pods is currently winning 64 to 36. These polls usually only get about 1000 votes or so...so if we pile in a couple hundred more from here...we can really make this one fun. VOTE HERE Oh, and in the Chat...Steve Phillips was talking about the Orioles, and he went out on a big limb and said that he didn't think the Orioles would make the playoffs because they didn't have the pitching to compete with the Yankees, Indians, or Twins. I doubt my comment in reply to that one will be posted. Let's just say it was fairly arrogant. With regards to the bottom part ...What is this asshole thinking....He should be out of a job for naming 3 AL teams...2 in the sox division and not naming the best team in baseball. I mean you have to try and avoid saying them if you are talking about good rotations in the AL. Here was the post for those interested... Justin (Baltimore): Have you ever seen a team look as strong as the Orioles did in April and May and then look as horrible as they have in June and July in the same season. It's like watching the 1998 Yankees turn into the 2005 Royals. Steve Phillips: (12:12 PM ET ) Well, the 2005 Yankees have had weeks where they looked terrible and then suddenly looked like the teams from the past. It can happen. You are never as good as you are when playing your best or as bad as you are when playing your worst. You are really something inbetween. Somehow the Orioles have to get the rotation stabilized because it has been bleeding profusley. I'm just not sure they will have enough in the rotation to compete with Minnesota, Cleveland and NY. But they are headed in the right direction and have the makings of a solid playoff team.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Sorry. We had to decide back in April to get a block of 30 tickets and figured the Yanks series would be a good one. Im just messing...I'm sure it will be a good time...not as good as if I was there....but if you bring home a winner...all is well.

Since June 1st we have 9 losses in 31 games. 3 of those we have scored 4+ runs. In 2 out of our 22 wins we scored less than 4. So only 8 out of the last 31 games we have scored less than 4 runs. Our 22 wins have gone like this starting with last night.... 7,6,10,5,6,4,2,12,5,5,11,4,5,6,12,8,4,15,2,9,6,6 Overall we score 4.84 runs per game, but since June we are averaging 5.58 runs per game. The best team is Boston at 5.58 and Baltimore is 2nd at 4.97. If we can keep hitting and scoring like this we will be at the top in runs as well as ERA. That spells good news for the most important stat............W's. Welcome back Frank!!!!!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) My take on Jenks... He looked like he was having problems getting the fastball down in the zone. The Rays were anxious and swinging at them, but a fastball like that is hard to resist, especially with the amount of movement he has on it. I could see that if you get a more disiplined team, he would walk some guys. I had the same discussion with my friend this morning. All those fast balls were up...which is good in that, hitters can't catch up to them, but it is bad cause a patient hitter will take the walk. My friend said he was around the strikezone and that's all he needs....I disagree...I think ya need to throw that fast ball for a strike at least once an at bat, but I don't want to really judge him on one inning anyway. I loved his stuff though. He could've been pitching up cause he was amped. I'm anxious to see his next couple innings. I'm not worried about his problems in the past...gimmie a break...he was in his early 20's.
