Frank not ready until all-star break
Controlled Chaos replied to RockRaines's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) ptatc.. just a bit of info I want to share.. Frank was out of his cast and in a walking boot 6 weeks before the Sox released that info. Aaron and him were working out a good month before it was reported. He was walking on the treadmill at a 7% incline at 5 mph before ST even started. These are the things that I go by when I say that the Sox are being overly cautious in reporting anything. Frank is still hurting, as I'm sure anyone would be.. but I honestly think (from him and those close to him) that he's further along than they are reporting just in case there is a setback. They are definitely being cautious.. and the scar tissue was a setback as you stated it would be. You've been on the money in responding to what the Sox are reporting. Your info is great in relation to the medical side. It's nice to have someone here that can explain those details. In my medical opinion Steff, 7% incline and 5mph...he was running on that treadmill!! Go Frank!!!!!!!!! -

From todays Sun Times Sox aren't America's team April 26, 2005 OAKLAND, Calif. -- Turning on ESPN on Sunday night, one had to wait a while to find out how baseball's best team fared. Picking up a copy of USA Today on Monday -- at least on the West Coast, where the White Sox are playing this week -- forced a reader to wade through four other games in the American League roundup before the Sox-Royals game earned a mention. Getting off to the best start in baseball for a franchise with more than a century of history hasn't exactly set the news wires ablaze. If the Sox are yearning for national attention -- and there are no indications they are -- they still have to overcome a few problems. First, the Sox are not national media darlings, mostly because they haven't had much postseason success over the last 25 years. They have a combined three playoff victories over that time and none since 1993. Then there are the 2005 baseball predictions, a point that still offends general manager Ken Williams. The Twins and, in many cases, the Indians were touted in preseason prognostications as better teams in the AL Central. "I think when some of the initial predictions came out, many of us were somewhat bothered by it,'' Williams admitted Monday. ''Anybody that tells you [different] is not necessarily holding up to their true feelings. ''But at the same time, we are too busy to pay much attention to it. It's a long season, and we have grinder guys that will give their best every day, and that's all you can care about.'' So will the Sox ever get as much attention this year as the Yankees or Red Sox or even the injured Barry Bonds? "I don't really care,'' Williams said. ''All I care about is tonight.'' Doug Padilla -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) I hate to say it, but I'm worried about the same things. There's no way the pace can be kept up - we're going to have to find some other ways to win. I'm not as pessimistic as this, but I do think we're over-achieving right now - look at the schedule. Everyone we have played is - to be candid - terrible, save Minnesota. Now as we start to play some real teams, we'll see if this holds up. The west coast trip should hold some better answers. See I believe we have found the "other ways" to win. What we lost was the common way to win. Which is to bang the s*** out of the ball. I don't see this as a down side. The hits will eventually come...no doubt about that...but it's the little things we are doing now that will keep us in it down the road. We have found all the "other" ways to score runs and win. When the good old fashioned spanking the ball comes around...we will be in good shape. If there's anything to worry about, it's that our pitchers keep up the same intensity when we start scoring more runs. Right now they know there is 0 margin of error and I hope they can keep that in their heads regardless of the score.

Benson a wasted pick cause we already have a RB?? Whatever dude...The Bears have a player to play every postion already so should they have not showed at all. I'd love to see where you saw Bradley going in the 4th or 5th round. I have seen 2nd or early 3rd, but not 4th or 5th. They may have got him a little early cause they din't have a third, but I'll trust that Angelo knows him better than you or me. He has speed and great moves. He averaged over 20 yards per touch last year. I'll take him as a target for Rex.

I think they had a hell of a draft. Benson will be the man here and Jones will be the change of pace back...not to mention you just need two solid backs now in the NFL. I wanted a RB over Mike Williams. They addressed O line in free agency by signing Fred Miller and Roberto Garza. They still have Marc Colombo who I think will be back playing strong this year and provides depth at tackle, as well as Qasim Mitchell who can go tackle or guard. Ruben Brown is still playing well. Also there's Metcalf and Edwards wh are both serviceable. They needed playmakers and I think they got them. Bradley and Currie can provide the speed the Bears need to complement Mushin. I also think Orton can be the steal of the draft. Overall Grade - B+

Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)
Controlled Chaos replied to southsideirish's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) By being knowledgeable I would like to include the knowledge of ball game ettiquite. I have found out from this thread that most Sox fans do not have this knowledge or just couldn't care less about it. That is what I am talking about when I say knowledge, it just doesn't include all the stats you have in your head. Tell Jerry you didn't like people getting up and you were wondering if maybe you can sit in the front row next time. I told you my etiquette...you didn't respond so I'm guessing that wasn't good enough for you. You keep pushing this usher s*** at the top of the aisles....which is in essence, keeping those people(who paid the same as you) from enjoying the game. That's not right either. There's a way they can do it without waiting for the inning to end. I am not there to scold people for having to take a piss. It's pretty much just common courtesy and some people are just assholes. It has nothing to do with baseball knowledge...has to do with some people are just ignorant. Vendors walk by you...should we get rid of them?? They might make you miss a pitch. -

QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) i know you didn't post this to me, but a good rule is to wait until the batter completes the at bat. There is plenty of time to get to your seat in between batters. not that tough. I do it all the time. True. Waiting for a batter is probably better and defintiely better if you have kids or are with more than one person. But if you are alone...you can make your way to your seat in between pitches then squat during the next pitch then sit down for the next pitch. This works fine. I know if I have to get up I'm already pissed that I had to get out of my seat for whatever and want to get back as soon as possible to celebrate a hit or whatever. If the opposition is up to bat...I'm not so eager and usually just wait it out. and if MB is on the bump...you couldn't make it to your seat if you were Spods -
Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)
Controlled Chaos replied to southsideirish's topic in Pale Hose Talk
WAIT FOR A f***IN WHISTLE!!!!!!! as we used to say at Hawks games. I dont' know about end of inning or pitching change...you can usually walk to your seat and squat down till after the pitch....then get in there and be situated for the next pitch. You talk of viewing experience..well is it not the right of the person, who's god given right it is to piss and grab a beer, to go back to their seat to watch the game as well?? The fact is there is a right way and wrong way to do things. In between pitches is the right way. Requesting in between innnigs and you are hypocritically taking away a persons right to enjoy the game from their seat. A little education can prevent some of these problems. Make an announcement during the game or display it on the scoreboard. It will help some people, but others are just rude and won't change no matter what. As for smoking...if you tell an usher then I believe they kick them out or at least give them a warning. I respect your opinion, and I'm sorry you had such a terrible outing at the old ball park, but it kinda seems you were doing more fan watching then game watching. I know some things happened that got on your nerves...but for that to ruin your whole experience when the white sox swept the twinkies in a great game...then I think you were focusing on the wrong things there. -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope to buy ya a beer sometime!

Guillen: Buehrle rates more pub than 2 Cubs
Controlled Chaos replied to KevHead0881's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(False Alarm @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) follow-up piece on this today. sorry if it's posted elsewhere: the buehrle-wood comparison's bulls***--buerhle's career ERA+ is significantly better. the prior comparison's not as bad, though he might note that buerhle's thrown about 97 kajillion more innings than prior over the same period. durability should count for something. anyway there you go. His argument is total bulls*** Who gives a s*** about strikeouts...if you're not getting W's. Ozzie never said MB is a better strikeout pitcher. If you're hurt for two years...that hurts the team which in my book, hurts you as a pitcher. I'm also not sure about Sullivans stats...and if I'm looking at the wrong thing...correct me, but MLB.com has their walk to strikeout ratio virtually the same Wood with 2.31 strikeout to walk ratio not 4. Buehrle with a 2.32 strikeout to walk ratio. Wood does get more striekouts, yes...but he also gives up 4.42 walks per 9 while Buehrle gives up only 2.18. Either way it's a dumb argument by that guy. I don't think Oz's point was to get into a stat war anyway...he was simply pointing that MB gets little notoriety when he pretty much has had a better career so far than Kerry Wood. Oz was asked these questions. I'm glad he spoke the truth...He wasn't b****in about anything. He was stating a fact...that nobody else would say. If MB was on the Cubs, Boston or the Yankees...he would be a household name. -
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) Yes Sir!!! I've been a major UFC backer for years (since the Shamrock/Tank Abbot years). oh yeah!! Tank wasn't to hot when he tried to come back and Shamrock just got pummled. They were the bomb back in the day. Liddell is the real deal though!! He is a badass!!

QUOTE(marsh @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) In order to get maximum return on the all you can eat and drink service, I would suggest not sitting there for a burly-mon start. Pick a Contreras game and strap 'er down for a nice 3+ hour game. If mark is pitching the game will be over after a dog and beer. "THE PACEMAKER" I'm pushing that nick for MB

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Eye.. that is sooo funny you posted that.. Jim and I said the exact same thing last night. They do that in Milwaukee and it's a cool thing. They do it at the Bulls games cause the people they brought down sat in the row right next to where I was. Right behind the basket after the media tables. Benny the Bull and Southpaw brought them down from the upper deck. I screamed Southpaw and everyone looked at me like an idiot. Not too many people know who he is.

And That's A White Sox Winner!!!!!!!
Controlled Chaos replied to letsgoarow's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) He keeps wanting to call the same pitch over and over (the splitter) and AJ won't let him. That's why he kept shaking him off. AJ was making him throw a bigger variety of pitches, which is probably what kept him from getting shelled. Normally he falls in love with the splitter then goes to the fastball when that doesn't work. Last night he mixed in curves and changes, along with that drop down motion curve. I really think he needs to pick up the pace... I found this from an article written last year about MB's fast pace and agree 100% "Most guys who work slow are out there walking around, thinking about a bad pitch they just made, or a bad play behind them," says Tigers pitching coach Bob Cluck. "They tend to dwell on the negative, and that's not how you want to pitch." A slow approach can take away a pitcher's advantage of setting up a hitter. Pitchers aim to keep hitters off-balance by mixing their pitches, such as following a fastball with a change-up. But when the White Sox's Jose Contreras dawdles between deliveries, the effect his 95-mph fastball can have on his split-finger fastball is lost. Cluck puts the cutoff at 13 seconds for one pitch being able to affect the next one. "It would seem to be an individual thing depending on the hitter," Cluck says of the 13-second figure, "but I do a lot of reading and have seen scientific evidence that if you throw a fastball and follow with a change-up, the faster you can get the pitch up there, the bigger the difference will seem." Grip-it-and-rip-it attitude a winning formula
