QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) How can anyone hate the Mayers or O'Donnell move? Mayers will be a depth guy who has experience and is tough. It's 500k people, relax. As for O'Donnell, this is a good move. To get him for 1 year for under 900k is a steal. He'll be Scott's replacement on D. Thr 'Hawks biggest need is size. They were 4th in goals last year. These are great moves considering they've barely spent anything so far and they've added size. Add Cole OR Leino and Talbot and call it a day, Bowman. I haven't seen anyone knocking the deal here. Both are solid moves IMO.

If we could get a decent deal with someone like Cole, who's looking for a cup, I'd jump at it.

Stole from some dudes post on committed indians.. Campbell ($7.1 mil): 5 G, 22 A, + 28, 6 PIM, 84 SOG, 28 Hits, 101 Blocks Montador ($2.75 mil): 5 G, 21 A, +16, 83 PIM, 118 SOG, 86 Hits, 138 Blocks Almost identical production, still a great +/-, more shots, more hits, more blocks, and for more than $4 million less! Montador did play 8 more games than Campbell this past season, but even still, I'd say this is an absolutely GREAT move by Bowman.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 08:22 AM) They were massively under the salary floor and pretty much have to spend like they are the Yankees. Then spend like the Yankees...not the Cubs!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 07:31 AM) We just did the first part with Kopecky to Florida. The second part, while legal, would really get you blacklisted. Florida gave Tomas Kopecky a FOUR year, $12M contract (yes, that's $3M per)!! Holy s***, Tallon loves throwin money away!!

Stan doing a solid job! Never thought we'd get Soupys contract off the books.

QUOTE (supernuke @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) It really is quite appalling. It's sad to think many of the people involved were just out there to start rioting and looting. Looking at how things went down i think the results would have been the same even if Vancouver won. I have absolutely no doubt about that statement. It wasn't spurred by anger or joy, but an appetite for destruction. Simple as that. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) Ugh, hard to watch sucker punch. This is the original dude involved and even though he's drunk as s*** he's trying to stop the rioters. So I'm guessing he was trying to stop the kid that got sucker punched from doing something stupid as well. Kid that got sucker punched most likely deserved it, but the kid that threw the punch was probably just a punk looking to hit someone. Actually I jumped this video ahead to the dude in black, but if you watch from the beginning that's where ya see they guy that got sucker punched trashing the car. -

Drunk food for me... #1 - Mexican. Where ya sit down, inhale the chips and salsa and wash it down with a steak burrito! A really close #2 - White Castle. -
Jimmy John's selling $1 sandwiches Thursday Posted by Phil Vettel We at the Stew will do whatever it takes to run down a good story. Even if it means opening our own newspaper. Yep, there it is in today's Trib: A full-page ad announcing that from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Chicago-area Jimmy John's locations will be offering 8-inch sandwiches for $1. (They're usually $5.) The fine print: Offer applies to sandwiches 1 through 6. Limit one sandwich per person. Good for in-store purchase only. Something tells us the Jimmy John's lines are going to be freaky long tomorrow.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) Biggest problem? The rate of out of wedlock babies has been in decline for some time now, I thought (maybe I'm wrong - I'm sure someone will check - mayeb I am thinking of teen birth rates). And I'd suggest that having parents who later divorce, or are just dysfunctional, is just as bad or worse on kids, as opposed to single parenthood. yeah IMO it's one of the biggest problems facing this country. I agree that children of parents who divorce can be just as dysfunctional. It's more about a fatherless home than anything. Only data I can find is this from 2009, "41% of children born in the USA were born to unmarried mothers (up from 5% a half-century ago). That includes 73% of non-Hispanic black children, 53% of Hispanic children and 29% of non-Hispanic white children." So take that 41% and add in the children of divorce and it's probably more than half of US homes without fathers. Here's some statistics on children from fatherless homes...some are old, but I doubt things are improving. http://fatherhood.about.com/od/fathersrigh...ss_children.htm So for me it all comes back to that....I figure this is understood, but I'll add it here anyway....I'm not saying some children don't overcome...just odds are stacked against them. A big thing is even if the father isn't in the home...he needs to be very active in their life. But I think a lot of our problems can be traced back to family upbringing.

The answer to me is pretty simple. It's the out of wedlock birth rate. Fix that and you cure so many of this country's ails. Education and crime being at the top, but also depression, respect, obesity etc... This problem is rarely discussed and it should be of the highest priority for this country.
