  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 10:13 AM) I'm just not convinced the Hawks Sox are that good. They sure haven't proven it down the stretch. Man I really heard that alot around these parts at then end of the 05 Sox season. You've got to believe!!! Seriously though, I'm not sold on the Hawks winning, but I am sold on them having a decent chance. I'd say 60-40 in favor of Vancouver, but that's enough for me to go all in!!!
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) I guess I am pretty lonely out here, because I am about 95% no way as well. All of those stats from recent years are great, but they ignore the fact that these aren't the same teams that play each other the last two years. The Hawks don't have the team to beat Vancouver, I really believe that. Are they the same teams that played this year? 1 game the Hawks won in a shoot out. 1 game Vancouver won by one goal. 4-3. 1 game Vancouver won 3-0 and 1 game the Hawks won 7-1 and chased Luongo. 95% no way?? Come on Mike...I thought you were a numbers guy...
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) After reading what you all said in response to my questions ... I see no way the Hawks win more than two games this series. No way. Our goalie sounds like he's been overworked. And he's young. With no backup, it could get ugly. Feel free to respond as I am only going off what I've learned of late in this thread. I am a playoff bandwagon fan sadly. It's nice you admit being a playoff bandwagon fan, not so nice that you're going to make bold predictions about something you know little to nothing about. You won't see me telling an EOD technician, "No Way" you should cut that blue wire…I read it on the internet. He's knowledgeable on diffusing bombs and I'm not...I'll keep my uninformed opinion to myself, especially, if I'm going to be so matter of fact about it. There is a way they win more than 2 games and it's not as far fetched as you think. Is it possible they don't or that they even get swept...sure...it's also possible I was right about not cutting the blue wire. I mean s*** happens...but here's some food for thought... No doubt Vancouver was the better team this year, but this is the NHL playoffs. The No. 8 seed has upset the No. 1 seed nine times in 32 tries (28.1 percent). I'm also pretty confident those past upsets didn't have the recent history these two teams have, with the Hawks knocking the Canucks out 2 years in a row. There's a different level of intensity between common foes and both teams are definitely geared up for this series. Also, even though the standings have the Hawks at the 8 seed, 97 points is a pretty good season, especially when you're the defending champs with a target on your back, especially after the roster changes and especially given some of the freak injuries this year. I can't find a resource for man games missed by Blackhawks, but I believe Kane, Hossa, Campbell, Sharp, Bolland, Pisani and Hendry have all missed significant time. If you followed them all year, you would know, even when they missed out on 1 or 2 points, they were more often than not the better team on the ice. If everyone is healthy, this is a different team. Hell, just having Bolland back to annoy the Sedin twins can make a huge difference. Luongo has allowed 43 goals in his last 12 postseason appearances against the Blackhawks, an average of 3.58 goals against per game. In seven of the eight losses, he has allowed four or more goals. Also, Chicago is 5-1 at Rogers Arena in the past two postseasons. They won there once this season by a 7-1 margin. They need to rattle Luongo and he will be vulnerable. The term "no way" shouldn't even be uttered for this series. It will take a huge effort, but it can be done. Go Hawks!!
  4. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) Scott Burnside is picking the Hawks in seven. Link: Hawks-Canucks He doesn't really make a great argument for that pick other than it was his preseason prediction. I understand why...Vancouver beats the Hawks in probably every statistical category measured. I'm personally going with the whole "anything can happen" mantra. Even as the defending Stanley Cup Champions, Hawks are the underdogs here. Vancouver has a ton of pressure, not just fan or ownership pressure, but as the article states...entire country pressure!! A couple unfortunate bounces here or there can get them pressing. It will take a Herculean effort, but the Hawks have the mental edge. There is no way Luongo wanted to face the Hawks, that's not to say he doesn't relish the opportunity now, but 3 or 4 goals against and the old thoughts can come creeping back in rather quickly. Hawks are missing some of the sandpaper needed to rub the Canucks the wrong way, but if a couple guys can step up and take that role...Vancouver will take some dumb penalties. Of course the PP unit has to start clicking again for it to matter and they need to stay out of the box themselves. There are a lot of "ifs" going on here, but even so, I don't think confidence is lacking for the Hawks. They have beat this team and they know they can do it again. If everyone can play above their heads a little and get this series to 6 or 7.....anything can happen!! Great to have some playoff hockey. This was a pretty incredible year considering what went down in the offseason IMO.
  5. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) wow,just saw the replay. i disagree, they absolutely have to do something. what, i dont know, but something. i wouldnt let him get away with that Just saw the replay and and is that Dave Martinez looking like Osama Bin Laden at the .44 second mark. I don't care about retribution for that. Win again tomorrow. If we're up by a bunch and have a chance to buzz him...go for it....but it has to be the right situation. AJ did enough for me. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=13612241
  6. http://www.260sportsbar.com/ This place is right next door to Ricobene's and their family owns it. Nice addition to the area. Party here before and after the game. They have a free shuttle to take you there and back. I've been here twice and the staff is incredibly friendly and beer selection is pretty good. Food was excellent. Tons of tv's. I wish it was closer to my house...I'd be there more often. Definitely check it out if you're heading to a game.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) The fog messed up everything yesterday. Yeah it was definitely chilly and the bathroom lines were the worst I have experienced in 17 years of opening days. You could easily miss 1-2 innings.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) Can I ask where the Hat came from? http://www.amazon.com/Twins-Enterprise-Chi...7349&sr=1-8
  9. Doing a job search by searching the classifieds. What the hell would you do if location wasn't important to you and you wanted to search nationally? Selling your junk at a garage sale instead of ebay.
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 30, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) I'm not saying only the injury should be punished, it should be based on the act...but if there's an injury, it should be a more severe punishment. I'm not along the line of "however long that guy is out, you are out" suspensions but if the guy was injured, the act itself was definitely worse, and well there are consequences for your actions, luck or not. How long does one get for only inflicting a partially severed ear instead of a concussion? Apparently...nada. Ridiculous. I understand he was going for a hip check, but he left his feet and did it with his elbow up. In fact, not only is his elbow up, it moves in an uppercut motion to Johnson's head and his stick is parallel and about 4 feet off the ice. Pause the vid right at 39 seconds. If he does the exact same hit with his stick on the ice, he still plows him over with a vicious, but legal hit. It's not that hard for the NHL to figure out, but they are so god damn inconsistent and that's what drives people nuts..
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) When you live outside of Chicago for an extended period of time, especially when you move to an area where Dominos is HQ'ed, pizza like Home Runn Inn start tasting fantastic. I agree, it's not the best out there, but for a frozen pizza that you can but around the midwest it's one of the best choices. Opinions vary. I can have whatever pizza I want and I love home run inn. Would pick it first everytime. Best fresh, but pretty dam decent frozen. Really looking forward to opening day and getting a dog with some grilled onions. I have to get one no matter how much I eat before the game. Also some corn off the cob. Not looking forward to the $7 bottles and kinda pissed that the giveaway opening day is no longer the magnetic schedule. I have every one going back to 2001.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) That's ridiculous. Even if he was apologetic, that was was bad as Matt Cooke's penalty. Bertuzzi went to straight to Ryan Johnson's helmet with his elbow. Very surprised. Would have also been nice to have him off the Wings for the two other Hawks game. Yeah I was surprised to hear Roenick and the other guy in the post say they didn't think anything else would come of it because his elbow missed him. Who gives a s*** if it was a fluke that he missed. It was deliberate, he left his feet and the intent was there. Why does it take knocking a guy unconscious for there to be discipline? Think they dropped the ball on this. He deserved at the very least a couple games.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) Yeah, I was wondering, didnt they just say American Airlines at O'Hare, and then they zoomed in on the very recognizable Midway airport security line, and airport that doesnt even service AA. Just a guess, but it's probably easier to film at Midway. Since O'Hare is more recognized as Chicago's airport that's what they went with. Only noticeable to us Chicagoans I'm sure.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) Great finale for Shameless. Loved the drama. Assuming when we cone back next year Fiona is with Tony. Hilarious when Lip pee'd on Frank and Frank took it. Guy I work with says it is now different from British version because at the end of season 1, Fiona leaves and never comes back.
  15. Solid W last night. HUGE game Sat night!! The Kruger kid didn't look bad. Hopefully he gets a bit more comfortable. He needs to be a serviceable option if the Hawks are going to advance.
