http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/NASApp...t=.jsp&c_id=ari Tony Clark gets extension D-Backs ink first baseman to two more seasons Conor Jackson anyone? He's a better prospect than Brian Anderson is, and he could probably be had for a straight up trade. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) With the way Ozzie manages the pen another arm was needed though as I've said before I think Adkins is the wrong guy. Blum's purpose is to back up Crede, with his back he's going to need a few days off every now and then and Pablo was killing us defensively at 3rd base. I really do wish Ross was on the roster though, he's got a raw deal this year imo. At this point, I'm not even concerned about who it is. I'm not even complaining about Timo. This team needs some useful bats on the bench. They have none. OK Widger is having a nice back up catcher season, but that's it. Blum is your best bench player(which is really sad by the way), and he should be the one we're upset about being stuck in AAA. Brian Anderson, Ross Gload, some guy who clears waivers. we need help. You can't have Uribe/Crede/Pods hitting back-to-back-to-back in the playoffs without a decent option on the bench.

QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) Youve seen Blum play 3 games and you already come to the conclusion that Blum cant hit. Let him play a few more games before you pass judgement. 10 ab is hardly a sample. Believe me im the biggest Gload supporter out there. There just isnt any room for him right now. Yeah, cuz his career 82 OPS+ really makes me think he's an offensive force. -- The only nice thing I can say about Blum is that he's not Willie Harris. He sucks, but at least he's not Willie Harris. We don't have any room for Gload? Couldn't we have used an extra bat yesterday? Couldn't we have used a guy who can actually get an extra-base hit? Whose natural position is 1B? Oh sure there's a roster crunch, but surely there's someone who's only contribution is eating the post-game spread in the Clubhouse. -- Oh wait there is. -- Jon Adkins. He of the can't get guys out at AAA Adkins. Thank God we called him up so he could work 1 inning in garbage time.

QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) On a side note, I just read this on CBS Sportsline: The crowd of 39,165 was the White Sox's 11th sellout of the season, a franchise record. Can that really be true? A franchise that has been around for more than 100 years has never sold out more than 11 dates in a full season??? I am not buying that for a second. That stat has to be wrong. Has to be. Old Comiskey could hold half of Chicago without being a sellout. Comiskey II had a capacity of about 48,000. USCF has a capacity of just a tick under 40K. There's your explanation.

Liriano has a 1.62 ERA in 9 starts in AAA....with 28 hits, 17 walks, and 73 Ks in 61 innings. This guy is head an shoulders better than Loshe and Mays, and is probably less than a year away from being better than Silva and Radke. I have no clue what he's still doing in the minors. I've seen him pitch once, and he's DOMINANT. Easy 97MPH from a lefty. That rotation is going to be deadly.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) That was my point, if the Padres got sqrewed by paying $14M (much closer to the actually figure) over two years for Randy Myers. Then NO team will claim Griffey and risk taking on a contract that is 1000X riskier. Also, that was 1998 vs. 2005..... That was before the baseball salaries exploded. $6M/yr was huge back then.
-
QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Which makes it even riskier to claim Griffey. That's the point Steve. We're last. We won't claim anyone. Once a player clears waivers, however, he is eligible to be traded to any team. We'd pass on Griffey and work something out with specs so that Cinci would eat some contract. There's no way we would risk putting a claim on him.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) So, has Patrick said anything else about this? Did it end up being a joke? Like I said in the other post, it probably won't be announced until Monday. -
Yeah, Maybe in a couple years when he's older and more seasoned, like 29, he'll be able to hit AAA pitching.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) Sounds good--how does that fit with people's school schedules? And I would also like to say I love this book club--but it's such a guy book club. We read a book, tell each other we read it, how good it was, and then move onto the next one without any like deep analysis or talking about bigger symbolism and issues. It's actually kind of adorable. I had read survivor before, right around a year ago, and assumed it would all come back to me. -- But I couldn't remember s***. I guess I should have re-read it.

I don't think it should be any surprise.... In both the Palmeiro and Franklin cases, we've seen how slow the process works. This person probably failed a test months ago, but they're going through this appeal process. Patrick is probably just as credible as JD was... We may not know until monday, but I don't doubt that there is another big name about to be taken down. -
I heard that Iguchi banged Ichiro!s wife OK not really

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) 17 LOB today with 13 yesterday. :headshake :puke actually it was 9... 17 would mean we averaged almost 2 guys left on base per inning.
