  1. Add Carlos Lee Kip Well Gary Majewski All developed exclusively in the Sox system... The Sox rank in the upper 25% in developing talent.
  2. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Gio is a lefthanded BMac from what I remember. He's a bit more raw though. Hardly a stuff guy. For a lefty, he's a stuff guy. Lefty's that throw hard are rare.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Those guys with 91 mph have a lot lower ceiling than the guys with the overall great stuff. It's up to the minor league developers to get the best out of the player's talent. Please don't tell me that you think our minor league people do a good job at developing players? Um... McCarthy was in Low-A last season. There was a reason for that. The reason he's not getting major league hitters out has nothing to do with the minor league people devolping players.
  4. McCarthy looked great in the first, locating his fastball very well, throwing the Change to get Cantu, and the hook on Huff
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Will they do the fireworks after the game? They're looking at an 11:15 end time. So much for getting people home early so they can get to work in the morning? How will the delay affect B Mac? wow full house. The 'good ole boys' race down in Daytona ended at 1:40 AM the other day, and they had fireworks at the end of that.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Make it .423, with another HR. (not off Schilling though) .430 now. Another HR. 8 for his last 12. 5 HR, 5 2B, 1 3B on his AAA rehab which has yet to reach 100 AB's. He's raking.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) He can't play OF though -- and that's what really matters... :rolly Alright, I have a question. Who are this year's draftees that I should be looking at/for in the box scores, other than the obvious ones like Broadway? I've been watching what Cunningham has been doing, and Getz -- and, I think the other kid's name is Cortez? Anyone else I should really keep my eye on? I don't pay any attention until the make it out of the rookie leagues. That's when the stats actually start to mean something.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) Meh, that Schilling guy is a scrub. EDIT: Ross already has a double and is hitting .421 now. I think he's ready, Kenny. Make it .423, with another HR. (not off Schilling though)
  9. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) Gio gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning in his first action since June 17. Yeah, he was obviously rusty. First three guys got hits, the third being a HR. He's surrendered another HR, but struck out 6 and walked none in 5IP. I'd say it was a positive start, once he got back in the swing of things.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Some guy in SF said one of the Sox beatwriters was on the radio and said that Bmac and Anderson are untouchable. Who knows if that's true. They're going to get two starters(pitchers) for Schmidt. I'd give them Anderson over BMac in a heartbeat though. I don't think he's ever going to be a special player. He'll be alright, but never great. If BMac's not included, there would have to be another good starting pitching prospect included. That would be Gio. So pick your poison.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 07:54 PM) I'll admit I haven't been paying too much attention to this thread. I know we've been interested in Schmidt. Now after hearing who we'd be giving up, I really like this deal. Loaiza could be KW's best move ever, if this went down. Because Loaiza could =Schmidt. Loiza + Bmac + Tracey is more like it. I'm trying to think of a mid-level position player who might be included. KW DO NOT INCLUDE CHRIS YOUNG!!!
  12. I just went to check some games... Looks like Jerry Owens was hit by a pitch leading off the Barons half of the first, and had to be removed from the game.
  13. Who are the others? Pods doesn't belong in the all-star game, but since 'this year it counts,' he'd be a very valuable chip to have in a close game late.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) But ... was that our first game on the west coast, or just the first in Oakland? Yeah, as I recall we were in KC before then. We swept them but played like crap for two of the three in KC.
  15. Our August book: Three Nights in August -- Buzz Bissinger It's Non-fiction Soxy . Bussinger wrote Friday Night Lights. -- This time he follows Tony Larussa and the Cardinals as they play a three game set vs. the Cubs.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) Yeah next year he's Arb. eligable. Just saying if he wins like 22 games this year. He'll make more money than he's worth in arbitration. Arbitrators aren't stupid. Wins won't count as much as will his ERA. They also take his production over a two year period, and give him a comparable salary to those within one year of his arbitration status, with similar stats. In other words, keep racking up the W's JG, it's not going to cost us that much more, and W's are way more fun than L's
  17. That would have been much worse if we were in Oakland. Time to get a new scapegoat.
  18. What’s wrong with A’s fans? Friday: 15,000 Saturday: 45,000 Are you serious? Fireworks are twice the draw that the A’s are.
  19. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) ok granted. but dye and gooch, two of our better if not best hitters at the moment? Tadahito's been pretty bad for awhile now. (.244/.319/.354) in June pretty much sucks. Not to mention his RISP avg (.226/.278/.339) -- This is really troubling because he was well above .300 before june.
