QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) Haha. You guys are nuts. THat ball was crushed. He was playing shallow, which worked against Guillen and didn't work against Shelton. That's either Bmacs or Ozzies fault. It doesn't matter where he was playing.... He was reading that book upside down. Completely inexcusable for a major league outfielder. -
QUOTE(YahtzeeSox @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) How about a Table of Contents on the first page of the thread? Page1-2: Burnett Discussion Page 3: Oliver Perez Page 4: whatever you know. Here's the Table of Contents for this thread. Page 1: Whiny b****ing Page 2: complaining

They bought Keyhole a while ago. That was the integration into Google maps. The technology has been available through Keyhole for years.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) Ok, that was just a low blow. If you can tell me with a straight face that Utah doesn't make a conscience effort to remain the whitest team in the league, then I've got a bridge to sell you. And I'm throwing in Timo Perez too. -
QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) Oh really, if it was such a joke that you are all dumber after reading why does Mark Buehrle have to say this in the game recap: "The man upstairs is a Sox fan this year," said Buehrle with a wry smile. "There are games that we shouldn't be winning that we are winning. It's the way this team is. We keep battling, and everything is clicking for us." Baseball Prospectus has done studies on one run wins and it has to do with luck entirely. You aren't as good as your record and will come crashing back down to Earth next season without additions. Edit: Hermanson wasn't good. He was facing Young and Monroe. Anybody could get those hacking clowns out in a clutch situation. Shouldn't you be crapping all over a Cleveland message board tonight? After all, look what your slugger had to say... http://www.detnews.com/2005/tigers/0504/11/D01-146478.htm

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) So you're basically saying he'll fit Sloan's system. Yeah, and he looks white too. So that will help. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Farmer and Rooney are saying that Buehrle is elevating his pitches and not by design. Cooper out. I guess they are right. He's been high and outside for much of the game. -

20 straight scoreless innings for the Sox. 22 since 'smallball' has produced a run.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) I guess we just can't disagree on who the better player is, huh? Keep in mind that opinions are like assholes... everyone's got one. Unless it's Kevin Walker, then you've got two... -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Agreed. Sweeney has shown no power whatsoever. Anderson gets on base AND hits for power. 3 months ago, you thought Kevin Walker was good. Today,... he sucks. Anderson is 23, Sweeney, 20. Sweeney is a much more polished hitter than Anderson was at 20. When Anderson was 20, he was posting a .275/.379/.394 with the help of the hollow ping of aluminum and the thin air in Tuscon. Let's also remember that Anderson only posted a .270/.346/.416 line in the second half at B'ham last year. Really, how much different is that than .275/.339/.333 by a guy two years younger with projectability. I'll just wait until Anderson is called up, goes 2-35 with 19Ks, for you to jump off of that bandwagon too. Me, I'm going to wait and see, Sweeney has a ton of potential. Magglio Ordonez posted a .238/.303/.370 at age 21 in High-A ball. He didn't show any real gap power until his age 22 season at AA, and even then, he posted a sub-800 OPS. He didn't post an OPS over 800 in any of his minor league stops until his age 23 season at AAA. But hey, I guess he sucked too. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 01:01 AM) Screw that. We need to learn to win those tough series, regardless of who or where it is. Can't win the whole enchilada if you can't do that. We get Haren/Harden/Zito out there.... Oakland has been about the best team in baseball (save the Nats) since the calender turned to June. They have, no doubt, been the best pitching staff in baseball since the calender changed to June (2.98 ERA). Haren and Harden are horses. They're fricken good. Zito, well he's got a Cy Young. That's going to be one hella tough series. -
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) Wow the Bristol game was interesting. No score through 9 innings, Bristol scores 2 in the top of the 10th to take the lead, Bluefield pormptly ties it with 2 in the bottom of 10, and scores one in the 11th to win 3-2. Obviously not a lot of hitting for the BriSox but of note, Frank Viola Jr. throws 5 innings of one hit baseball, striking out 8. I'm sure dad is proud. Former Sox 1B Mike Squires son Steve takes the loss in relief for Bristol. 49th round pick, even his local paper that I read made it sound like the pick was a favor to the family. RE: Squires.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) Eww..just went and watched that myself...nice cut on the pitch, but it cut RIGHT into Pattersons wheelhouse... Yeah, it's a good pitch to most people, but completely indefesable to Patterson. He swings at anything above the letters, and we're working him inside on a 0-2 pitch. :headshake -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 27, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) I wouldn't say Borchard tore up the minors. His best year in the minors was in 2001, .295/.380/.509 with B-Ham. He hasn't hit over .275 again since. The Sox rushed him up too quick when he had a K/BB ratio of around 3:1 in almost every minor league stop. That's one thing that worries me a little about Brian Anderson and why he shouldn't be rushed. And yes, prospects are prospects. But you can't keep trading for players all the time, that adds extra payroll money, something that can't be happening consistently unless you have a real big budget like the Yankees etc. The Twins have shown the benefits of developing good young players in Crain, Morneau and Mauer. They would cost around $1 million this season together. The only stop that Borchard showed any plate discipline was Birmingham. That was a great season, but it was obviously an abberation. I've heard, rather read, Chris Young compared to Borchard here recently, but Young has shown a good eye at all levels and does nothing but hit the ball hard, strikeout, and walk. Borchard rarely hits the ball hard anymore. -

QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Who would have predicted that happening? We can dig up all your old posts showing just what a hack you are at predicting the future. -
Nick Lemon was a waste of an 8th round pick in the 2004 first-year player draft. In his final year at the baseball powerhouse that is BYU, he posted a 6.32 ERA with a robust 50:43 BB/K ratio. He followed that spectacular performance with a 7.88 ERA, 31:25 BB/K ratio, effort at Bristol of the Appalachian League. This season, he 'earned' a promotion to Great Falls of the Pioneer League, where he has posted a 13.50 ERA with a 3:1 BB/K ratio, albeit in 1.1IP. The scouting reports on Lemon when he was drafted said that he possessed a 98 MPH heater, but he had about as much control as an incontinent old man who just drank three pitchers of prune juice. According to the stats available on baseball Cube, he threw an amazing 32 Wild Pitches in 61 combined innings pitched this season.
