  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Could be, but I think this board has a natural and somewhat likeable tendancy to overrate Chris Young and other prospects. Not raining on a parade here but Chris Young strikes out a lot and a big hole in the swing tends to get exploited. I can understand this, but there's no way I deal Young this season. I can live with Young's 'hole in his swing' being expoited in our organization next year. I can't live with him hitting 35 HRs for someone else at AAA next year, and hitting 40 for another major league team in the not too distant future. He's just starting to show what he's capable of. 60% of his hits are for Xtra bases! He's still under the radar as far as not being listed as a top 100 prospect. Trading him this year would be the equivalent of trading McCarthy last year at the break, who I'd be fine dealing this year. -- I know what we have there. I have a better idea of what he's capable of. -- Next year if Young is continuing to pound the ball, he will be on the untouchables list. I might be open to trading him then, after we've got a better idea of what he can do at the higher levels, but not now.
  2. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^ If we deal Chris Young for Day someone will die. Yes, Kenny, at the hand of The Cheat.
  3. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Those of you who are against this... have you seen Zach Day pitch, or are you just looking at the numbers? They've got to be just looking at the numbers. Explain it to them this way, Zach Day = Kirk Saarloos
  4. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Um...see here's the thing about that: 2005 Chicago White Sox 57-27 I'm just joshing with ya Cheat. Let's get through this season first before we start worrying about the power production from the 06' lineup. I'm always thinking about the future... Last year I said I didn't want 5 starting pitchers under contract for 2005 & 06, with 3 or more of them signed thru 07 because at least one of them was bound to get hurt and ineffective. I could just envision us turning into the Cubs or Yankees, with all sorts of money tied up in hurt arms -- It's kinda happened with Duque, but I softed a bit on that stance, and was very happy with the El Duque signing when it happened.
  5. An outfield of Pods/Anderson/Rowand, while defensively very nice, would be the worst offensive OF in the majors. You'd need an IF like the Rangers to support them with even a good pitching staff. Think about it. IF anderson hits more than 12 HR's in a full season next year, I'd be surpirsed. Rowand is on pace for 10 this year, and Pods 0. 22 HRs from your OF!!! :puke Anderson is going to struggle next season. I think he's a good player but I don't think you can count on him to produce at better than league average for a CF, and Rowand an Pods would almost certainly be below average offensively at their respective positions.
  6. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) Here it is boys. Zach Day would be one of the two major league arms going to San Francisco with B-Mac. Obviously, we can't give up Contreras in a deal, and no one wants El Duque, so to get the other major league arm, KW is going outside the franchise. Its all a means to an end boys. PS, i dont know why everyone is complaining about a pitcher who had 2 of his past 3 seasons with an ERA under 4. When did we get this picky? This is also a possibility. Though I'd like to hang onto day.
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) thx and what's with the music theme???...not sure I 'get' that. The theme tie into our marketing promotions... Hermy is Evlis -- We have an elvis night Kong with his dogs -- We have a dog day Pierz helping old people around the bases -- We have a geriatrics roam the infiled day. (This was called aquiring Robby Alomar the last two years)
  8. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) How about: Nats Get: Preston Wilson White Sox Get: Zach Day Rockies Get: JJ Davis(from Nats), Willie Harris, and Jeff Bajenaru (from Sox) Probably pretty close.... I guess you could toss miles in there back our direction. I don't know why we'd really want him, but I'm as low as I've ever been on Willie right now. Getting Day would signal that Vizcaino is on his way out too, so he could go to Arizona for Cintron, who would make Willie expendable, and not require Miles. He's got more tools than Miles. We would probably have to throw in mid-level spec too. (I don't know who Arizona would have backing up all three infield spots though, so that rumor is probably a product of this board.)
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:52 AM) Well I think Anderson is a little better, but just as importantly Rowand being a RF before would probably make a better RF than Anderson would as well. I have to say even though his ceiling isnt as high as Chris Young or Sweeney.... Anderson is one of our prospects im really really looking forward 2... he was the main reason I didnt sweat losing Jeremy Reed. IF Rowand continues to be a pop-gun hitter, he has no value as a RFer. He needs to put up numbers like he did last year to be a decent option at the corner OF position. He's only passable now because he's playing a premium defensive position, and doing so well.
  10. Day would be a good pick up... He'd be a good swingman. With our defense, and his GB:FB ratio, his ERA would come way down.
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) Where was that at? I shouldn't have said pics. IT was video on Comcast, or maybe ABC 7 news.
  12. I saw pics of Dye in the pink Sgt. Peppers costume yesterday.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) Numbers wise, Timo is better then Willie now, which ain't saying much. My thoughts of Willie really went down tonight and yes I know it's one game but the thing is I just don't know where his head was. He was trying to shoot the ball into left field in those situations where he either should have bunted or just yanked something. That was my main beef. In the first AB, he took a high and outside pitch the other way... WHY? In the second AB, he looked scared to fail again, so he left the bat on his shoulder and watched 3-0 and 3-1 pitches that could have easily be grounded to the right side. He fought off one tough pitch, then took a pitchers pitch looking for the walk again. It would have been fine with me if he struck out in both at bats swinging too early at change-ups, because then I at least know that he was up there with a plan to hook everything. As it was, his only plan was "hope to not screw up", and that's a sure fire way to ensure you are going to screw up. It was the same thing with the SBs last season. He just didn't have the confidence to get the job done.
  14. I eat about 3-4 a week. Only vienna beef. I'm a hot dog snob.
  15. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) Plus, y'know, AJ's throw to Timo wasn't all that great either... Oh yeah, quoting Hawk. "that hit him in the wrist"... Yep that's attached to his hand, which is in the glove.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) How'd Schmidt look tonight?? By his numbers it looked like he pitched pretty solid against a great lineup, I was out and didn't have a chance to see him pitch. For anyone who saw him pitch how'd he look?? Too many walks... He avoided pitching to Pujols at all. Gave up an absolute BOMB to Walker. I mean it was a BOMB it landed like a cannon ball in McCovey Cove. Huge Splash, 20 feet farther than anything I've ever seen Bonds hit there. Reggie Sanders also took him deep. His fastball was 93-95 all night, but he seemed to get better as he tired. His Curveball got sharper. His FB was up in the zone all night. He induced a bunch of infield pop-ups, on pitches up and out of the zone, and climbed the ladder for a couple Ks. I was not impressed. He did, however, advance a runner from first to second with a nice sac bunt, so he could have batted second in our line-up tonight and been a great help.
  17. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) A big hearty :fyou to Willie Harris for tonight's ball game. I'm trying to remember if I have seen someone single-handedly screw us over this year as much as Harris did tonight. TImo. Playing first base.
  18. two minutes. got to the Morse Code. Stopped.
  19. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) Great Falls won 5-4. Hernandez with a HR. Everly with a good start. Lemon ERA watch: 2.35 (any comment Cheat? ) Box Score At least he had a balk.... He still leads the team in WP and HBP
  20. Wow that would have been refreshing to have tonight.
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) Good job Timo, Viz, Walker. Nice lethargic performance everyone else. Oh well - s*** happens, gotta bounce back. LOL this is the funiest. Subtract these 3 guys from the team, replace them with real major leaguers, and we have a few more wins this season. That we're congratulating them on a well played game tells you how bad we were tonight.
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) Until that magic number hits 0, nothing's a lock. The Magic Number will not be zero in July, therefore, all of them, plus most of August.
  23. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) Timo does the little things to help you win. Clutch hits, a very good arm, and desceptivley fast. He will be on the team because he is a smart veteran who can play his role perfectly. Also Harris doesn't use his speed at all because he is a terrible baserunner. He almost never steals when he is on. I can not defend Willie tonight. He had a terrible game, but there's so many things wrong with this quote. Deceptively fast? are you kidding? DJ, an unabashed Timo apologist, even said "He looks fast, but he's just... not" while he was turning a single into an out today. Smart? I don't know about that. Smart players use two hands on to catch the ball. Smart players don't bunt with two outs. Smart players use first basemen's mitts at 1B. Doesn't use his speed? is a terrible baserunner? -- Willie is 7 for 9 in SBs this season. He's only been on first base 25 times. He's attempted to steal in about half of his times on base. -- Scratch that he's been inserted as a pinch runner a few times. I think two of his SB might be PRing. Still, that probably shows just how effective he is at using his speed. He's stolen in key situations when everyone in the ballpark knew he had to steal -- Podsednik has been on first base 100 times, and has attempted 52 steals, but many of those were of third base. Also Pods has the tendency to pad his total vs. really poor pitchers like Daniel Cabrera. Willie's actually stealing more often once he reaches base, and he's probably doing it against tougher batteries. I know Pods has been shut down by a few guys who can actually throw (Pudge, Blanco, etc.) Meanwhile he's running wild on Jason Kendell. Willie has more steals this season in just 70 ABs than that clutch, 'deceptively fast' player you're touting has had in every season but one.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) What a joke. How many times has PK grounded out deep in the hole the last week? Maybe he should stop trying to pull every single pitch. Well yeah, then he'd be out by 80 feet on groundouts to the second basemen. And out by 5 feet on should-be-singles to the right fielder.
