Sox vs Tribe 4-7-2005 game thread.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Can someone interesting in compiling statistics research how many pitchers with 30+ saves gave up three home runs in one inning. Then, how many below 30 (minimum 20) gave up three home runs in one inning. No one's interested in doing that -- Well maybe jugger, but that's another story. -- About 95% of Innings have 3 or less runs. That should answer your question. -

QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) great stat 24-7 suprising anyone know manuels in 1 run games you've got to think about that critically... Home teams win a lot by one run because of the last AB.... they are 30-18 in one run games managed by Ozzie, but..... they are 6-9 in one run games on the road. 24-7 sounds impressive, but it's skewed just because of the last AB.

The line looks good, but it was ugly to watch... The contrast between he and buehrle was huge... Buehrle worked fast, threw strikes, looked like he was attacking the hitters. Garcia worked methodically, was wild, and looked like he was afraid of being hit on a pitch in the zone.
-
I don't think Rowand commands the zone as well as Iguchi does... Rowand's a great hitter, but he's a swing and miss guy. That's not the type of player Ozzie wants in that spot. If we had a different manager, I'd be more inclined to have Rowand in the 2 spot, but Ozzies probably going to do a lot of hit0and-running and stealing with Iggy in the box.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) The Cardinals put Rick Ankiel on waivers... "Any takers? Pitcher-turned-outfielder out of options" http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2030740 He was out of options, obviously. A few weeks ago the Cards let it be known to anyone who would listen that he won't pitch again, so they could get him through waivers.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) More importantly, couldn't Gil Meche have been had this winter? He had an ERA under 2 in spring and is pitching pretty well in this game. Meche was still under Mariners control, but he wasn't going anywhere anyway. He had some arm issues last season, but is supposed to be coming back healthy. As for the Johan ERA watch, it's down to 9.00, and he's stuck out 4 of the last 6. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) He isn't coming off an arm surgury this year. Or a bad spring. There isn't a single team in the majors whos playoff hopes ride on one player more than the Twins rely on Santana. I would argue with that statement, but that team's best player is on the DL. -

Santana had a 5.61 ERA through 61 innings last year... Laugh at him now if you want, but this is exactly how he started last season. -
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) I think Jeff Kent playing second base will add about .50 to Lowe's era. If they still had Cora I'd feel a whole lot better about his chances for a bounceback year. This good outing might not look good a month from now depending on the Giants offensive production from here on out. Kent is another player like Valentin who gets a bum rap for his defense... He's far from speedy, but he's always had good range. He doesn't move towards second with the best of them, but neither did Cora, and he's got a significantly better bat than cora. Here's Cora's and Kent's fielding charts from last year... (Right now I wouldn't call these much more than graphical representation of where a player sucessfully fielded a ball, but in the future, with more data, these would give a great visual representation of a players fielding ability) Cora Kent
