QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) So does this leave 38 on the 40 man? Put Ozuna on there and it's 39. Does the last one go to BMac? Anderson or Sweeney? Or a guy like Bull? No reason to protect Bmac, Anderson, or Sweeney yet... If I had to guess right now, I would say that it would probably just stay at 39. (do you have to have 40 men on the roster?) --- I think Borchard will be moved at some point and that will probably free up another spot. McCarthy will own one of the spots by the end of the year, but he doesn't need to be on it right now.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) I'm in a 12 person league with AVG., HR, SB, R, RBI's, K's, BB for the offensive stats, and I have too many OF so I dropped Catalanotto to pick up Scott Linebrink. I'm starting to think that is wasn't a good idea to drop Frank, but I don't know if I would be better off dropping Byrnes instead. you made the right choice... Catalatwhatever could easily be out of a job soon, despite signing a new deal... Gabe Gross is the shizznit.

Canseco to be on Surreal Life
Gene Honda Civic replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I actually read his book this weekend... The worst section is in one chapter he rails on white players like Mark McGwire getting special treatment... He then sites an incedent in which McGwire "runs an old lady off the road" but it's covered up by the front office and local autorities... No more than 25 pages later, He is talking about how great it is to be famous, mentioning a time when he passed a cop doing over 200MPH. He started to slow down, but decided the cop couldn't catch him so he drove off. They set up a roadblock and he was finally stopped, only to be let off the hook after he let the cops take some spins in his lamborghini. What's hilarious is that he doesn't see the simillarity between these two situations. Mark got favorable treatment because he was white, but Jose got favorable treatment because he was such a nice, likeable character. GMAFB. -

Prior: past steroid user?

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) I wouldn't like it if this was flippantly said about a Sox player and I don't like it when it happens to anyone else. It takes a lifetime to build a reputation in sports or life and it takes 30 seconds to tear it down even if it's false. That really bothers me in this whole steroid fiasco. I agree completely... It's a good thing I didn't actually hear this first hand, otherwise I would have gone nuts. I don't particularly like Mark Prior. In fact, I actually dislike the guy. He's not the most lovable character. But practicing this kind of journalism is ridiculous. - A guy is on steroids if he get injured too much - A guy is on steroids if he stays too healthy - A guy is on steroids if he gains weight - A guy is on steroids if he loses weight. There's no way to win. No way to not have your name arbitrarily attatched to the stigma of steroids without even the slightest bit of proof. I'd be seriously pissed off if I was Prior, or Helton(who got called out last week) -
jesse sure is coming to the aid of a lot of white people lately... First it was Michael jackson, now it's Shiavo...

The only thing that has been mentioned is Walker said that frank was tearing it up in the cages, but couldn't run at full speed yet.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) 840 overall out of i'd say more than a million that's impressive... I've had 31 of 32 right in the first round before... but nothing that would amount to being in the top .01% of all brackets at this point. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) I know the whole Retro 1983 jerseys are in right now, but god those were ugly. I was never so happy with a uniform as when they went to the late 80's look and dumped that horrid 83 jersey. '77???

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) It may be better than the overall average of Magglio-Timo-Borchard that we had last year, but not by much. Figure Dye has about a .330 obp. Magglio was at .350 (which was flukey low), and Timo's about .290. Borchard, well, we all know -- .260 (I'll be generous). But I discount Joe's numbers somewhat -- he was basically playing in a try-out, and if the games had counted he would have been hitting a lot less. Then if Everett gets displaced it hurts us some more -- he's hard to place, but I'd guess around .340, roughly his average over the last 2 years. Plus, "once Frank is healthy" is key -- he was very important when healthy last year. I wish the chart would be consistent with the discussion. Just talking about the 2nd half team while using a chart with season averages might be somewhat misleading. The collective line of our RFers last year was an abysmal .256/.315/.414 -- Dye is a substantial improvement over that. There were about 450 non-magglio ABs in RF last season. It actually amounted to about 75% of the ABs from our RF. That's statistically significant enough for me. Pierz > C 2004 Uribe > JV 2004 Iggy ~ WH 2004 Crede should improve (hopefully) Pods I don't actually think Frank's health is that important... I think Jurassic is gonna have a first half like he did in '03.. I don't have anything to back that up, I just feel that he has a short attention span when it comes to being the best player he can be, and it looks like we should get his best effort to start '05.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Carolina wins the game over Wiscy, 88-82. Congrats Palehosefan; you're a good UNC fan. It was a solid season for Wiscy, and a good coaching job for Bo Ryan to get this far, after all the players they lost. Why put them on the line down 3 with 53 secs. left?

Illinois vs. Arizona Game Thread!
Gene Honda Civic replied to Ishmookie's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Incredible game, but that last possesion by Arizona stops it from ranking among the best ever... They just got nothing going, and at the end the best shooter in college basketball was 35 feet from the basket with his back turned. That's not much of a decoy. Still a combination of great games today. -
Good to see you 1549

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) actually i dont think Mauer is elgible to win the ROY... i could be wrong but dont think he is. Mauer had only 107 Abs last year. I don't know if he accumulated 45 days on the roster though. He probably did.. (I count him up with the big club for 47 days last year.) So I guess he's not eligible.
