  1. He has a career ERA+ of 100, in other words, average... He had 2 good years when he was young... The hall is about being exceptionally good for a long period of time. Abbott was niether, and I would think even he would feel that an induction into the hall was a charity case.
  2. I'm not gonna debate what was said... cuz I heard the same thing. BUT... Think about that for a second... The #1 prospect in the organization, who was playing in AAA, just one level from the bigs, not on the 3-year chart? That just doesn't add up... Hahn's just blowin smoke.
  3. Iowa state controls it's own destiny for the playoffs

  6. Not gonna start another thread... Arnie Munoz hasn't allowed a run in 3.1 IP in the Dominican League, striking out 6. Felix Diaz also hasn't allowed a run, in 6 IP, in the Dominican Leage.
  7. Iowa and Michigan had a tough weekend... They both dropped 2 spots in the BCS... Iowa dropped because Arizona state lost at Arizona, and Michigan dropped because of losses by Notre Dame and NW.
  8. I'm not a big fan of Rogers, but this chat was fun to read... I didn't see a link. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/chat/041129pr.html some interesting statements and thoughts. D'oh! Mark asked 5 questions in the Cardinals chat.
  9. N.C. State Georgia Tech Minnesota Duke Wisconsin Illinois Clemson North Carolina Virginia Tie Breaker: Dukie V.
  10. I've always felt the same way. Iowa will not be involved this year... Only Illinois is definitely better than them in the B10... So that's the B10's 2nd or 3rd best team watching at home. Sure they got completely outclassed by NC, but that was after back to back wins against top 15 teams.... it's tough to expect ANYONE to do that in March for an NCAA title.
  11. Yeah, I have NOrton Internet Security running, though I'm pretty sure I turned the firewall off. It's logging a high number of remote hosts trying to acess my computer. (there goes one now).... So other people are able to reach all the way to my computer only to get stopped by NIS... PS, I hate laptop keyboards.
  12. I agree with qwerty, Zaun is the only one who I would even consider making a run at, and I'm not to enthusiastic about that... If not, a Davis/Burke backstop looks probable.
  13. A little background info first... I share my computer with others who aren't as enlightened as me and use IE instead of Firefox. When one of them complained last weekend that "the internet wasn't working" I told them they just had some spyware on the the computer... My brother was coming back from school for the Thanksgiving holiday, since he works as a computer tech at school I thought I would let him deal with it... So Thursday, when he was "done" deleting spyware, we had lost connectivity to the internet... But only on that computer. I have a wireless router running off of my cable modem...(currently writing this on a 6 year old laptop) which obviously can connect. My sister's laptop can connect. Now here's the really perplexing part. THe computer that won't "connect" actually shows a perfect signal from the router. It just won't connect to any internet program (IE, Firefox, AIM, Trillain, P2P, etc.) I have removed all the spyware that I can find, (actually VX2 is still there, but I'll get that later, stupid regedit), and can actually access the router page(internal IP adress) Now, while using IE, after having visited my router page, I try to go to Yahoo.com. Along the bottom(status bar) I get. Looking for yahoo., then autosearch.msn.....yahoo.com, then www.www.yahoo.com.com, then www.www.yahoo.org.. then .net... as if there is some sort of spyware..I don't have enough patience to wait around for more as that takes about 5 minutes... This doesn't show up in Firefox, but still won't connect. Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on here? Did my brother delete something vital to connect? Is there some killer spyware that works across platforms and program types? Is there some other problem with my router? Any help is appreciated.
  14. No, it's just a game that would be added so that it's more likely that a team like Boise St/Loisville will get an invite... There is no plan to change the current format, and move to an "and 1" scenario. That's why ABC pulled out. They wanted the 5th game to mean something, which it's not going to. It's going to be a glorified Cotton Bowl, or Capitol One Bowl, or Holiday Bowl, or whatever...
  15. And FOX stepped right in to pick up the pieces... In the 2006 season (2007 bowls) there will be 5 BCS bowls.
  16. Not what I would do, just how I think it'll end up. C - Davis/Burke DH - Frank/Gload/Everett 1B - Konerko 2B - Harris/Uribe SS - Uribe/Valdez 3B - Crede/Uribe LF - Everett CF - Rowand RF - Dye or Hidalgo Garcia Buehrle Somebody we got for Lee??? Contreras Garland Cotts Diaz Munoz Politte Marte Shingo Gload/Perez/Valdez/Counsell/Burke Payroll = $65M
  17. Yeah he had the pressure of a 10 game lead on a team with 20 all-stars. :rolly It could easily be argued that the Cubs and subsequently Clement were under much more pressure than Vazquez and the Yankees.
  18. Contract the Big East, and any independent associated with them. /problem solved.
  19. There's little chance of it ever happening in a BCS conference for several reasons. The BCS conference is guarenteed a bid (at least $13M) When a BCS conference gets an at-large bid, they only get about half of the $13M for the second team. A BCS conference likely has at least 6 bowl teams, sometimes 8 or more. That's $13M for the first, and about $1M for the other 6-7... So about $20M A non BCS conference only has 2-4 bowl bids, most awarding below $1M -- I would say the average non-BCS conferece generates less than $3M year from bowls. 1 BCS bowl bid would be worth about 4 years of bowls for the conference... It's just too lucrative to think that it's not a possibility. Although when a non-BCS school makes a BCS bowl, they make less money than the BCS schools... And when Notre Dame makes a BCS bowl, they get more than the BCS schools(even though they get stomped)
  20. This could be a story picked up from the hoosier gazette.... The same congressman tried to rename I-69 -- http://www.hoosiergazette.com/News/Nov2004/news003.htm
  21. Here's something to think about RE: the BCS and mid-majors. If a team goes undefeated, and get into the top 6 of the BCS, they recieve a payment of over $12M, which gets split among the teams in conference. If that team has one loss, they would go to a bowl where the payout is substancially less, less than 10% of the BCS bowl. THe $$$ awarded would be less than the amount each team recieves if they have a BCS school... Plus one extra school probably goes to a bowl game THerefore there is actually a benefit for teams to roll over at the end of the season if there appears to be any opportunity for a team from their conference of making the BCS. /not saying it's happened. Just think about it.
