I Believe I voted Koch in your poll last week... It was the only time I've ever been supporting Koch... Last year, I never wanted him here (hated the foulke trade) -- I knew that Ozzie said he was stickin with Botch, so I decide to throw my suppoert his way... I never supported him last season. so in two years, I've had "confidence" in him as a closer for one game, and we saw how that worked out. I may have jumped ship, but I was never really on it.

Yeah that... I sat in the first row last season for $10... Crede flipped me a foul ball... I gave it to my date(who was against me buying tix froma guy on the street, Until about the third inning when she's like "these are really good seats")

So far this season the guy has pitched 12.2 innings of no run baseball... with 12 K's.. The fish are winning 8-0 so it looks like he'll pick u his second victory... But that's not the best part... take a look at what hes done at the plate... in 6 AB's the guys got 6 hits, 1 homer, and 3 RBI's...

Who's afraid of the big bad Royals?
Gene Honda Civic replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Actually, Gobble's a great prospect, who we haven't faced... If he did pitch tommorrow(as was originally scheduled) we might be in trouble... As it is, I'm happy to see anderson, who although he posted a 5-1 record vs. the Sox last season, got shelled in the opener... WE get to see him a second time in just over a week. I like our chances... Bring out the brooms... -

with a little research you'll find that the first non-weekend, non-half-price game the sox played yielded only 9,882 in attendance... It's not the best time of year to go out to the ballpark... The next game was just over 10,000 If the sox pull off the sweep, then take 2 from a decent TB team in Tampa, they'll come home to a packed house to play the Bronx Bombers... The first of which is a half price night... If they are able to sign maggs in the interim, and get some favorable weather, look for a really strong series attendance wise.... Also we haven't played any weekend games yet... Those numbers add up...

Forgot to note this one... Olivo has looked like a Major league hitter -- Last year he left his batting eye in AA -- He has shown some good patience at the plate. He's covering more of the plate, while simultaneously laying off pitches he would have chased last year... Even today he drove that breaking ball into the gap the other way -- You rarely saw the words breaking ball, hit, and Olivo in the same sentence last season. WTG MO!!

I think the thread has been editted, The thread title wished death on Rooney.... I can understand aboz needin to take a break... I've had to do the same thing myself... While most times this place is great, fun, a distraction-- Others it can be grating, annoying, and redundant -- I compare it to when I worked in a bar: The best thing about that job was going to work and BSing with the same people everyday. The worst thing about that job was going into work and seeing the same damn people everyday, who talk about the same damn stuff. You only miss it when it's gone... Boy do I miss that job.

I agree with everything Wite has said in this thread...

I've been in wrights camp for Closer since last year... I just think he's got the make-up of a closer -- I know I'm not the only one who sees it -- The comparison between DW and Gagne may seem a bit crazy, but think about it for a second -- Check out some of his numbers when Gagne came up as a starter -- Year Ag Tm Lg W L G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO HBP WP BFP ERA +--------------+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+--+------+----+----+----+---+----+----+---+---+-----+-----+-----+----+ 1999 23 LAD NL 1 1 5 5 30.0 18 8 7 3 15 30 0 1 119 2.10 2000 24 LAD NL 4 6 20 19 101.3 106 62 58 20 60 79 3 4 464 5.15 2001 25 LAD NL 6 7 33 24 151.7 144 90 80 24 46 130 16 3 649 4.75 Danny's first three seasons Year Ag Tm Lg W L G GS IP H R ER HR BB SO HBP WP BFP ERA +--------------+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+--+------+----+----+----+---+----+----+---+---+-----+-----+-----+----+ 2001 23 CHW AL 5 3 13 12 66.3 78 45 42 12 39 36 2 5 307 5.70 2002 24 CHW AL 14 12 33 33 196.3 200 124 113 32 71 136 6 10 855 5.18 2003 25 CHW AL 1 7 20 15 86.3 91 63 59 16 46 47 3 6 388 6.15 Both pitchers were wild with high ERA's as starters.... It's true that gagne possesses 4 good "out" pitches, but he only was able to command them, and set them up properly with the added velocity he got from going shorter stints out of the pen. If Danny can just throw the ball at 95 and snap and locate that hook, he would be dominant... in DW's first start, he was throwing his fastball in the low 90's. I've seen him throw in 95 range, so that wouldn't be a stretch to expect that type of speed out of him.. If he was able to add a couple more MPH and hit 97, plus locate that hook, he'd save 45 games for us. I doubt we'd see it this year, but I see tons of potential in DW.

Uribe earned a spot in the line-up the last two days. He should start in nearly every game with a lefty starter. This gives us a guy who's proven he can hit the lefties(with some pop), and a ton of flexibility in late-inning situations like we had today with Willie either pinch-hitting or pinch-running The book is out already on how to get Aaron Rowand out. Pitch him down and away and he chases. Greg Walker needs to work with ARow in the cages to get him to cover that part of the plate, or have a better eye for that part of the plate. Otherwise, he'll lose his job to Timo. (He may have already vs. Righties) The Royals played horrendous defensively today. If we weren't able to capitalize on thier mistakes, this could have been a disasterous game. Thankfully, we did,(something we rarely used to do) and this win could give us tons of momentum for the rest of the season Jose Valentin has looked very comfortable the last two days vs. the lefties -- a big improvement from the first two games(0-6, 6K's) -- Now if we can just get him to throw to first with an overhand motion. He's starting to get a case of the knoblach's(sp?) The AB by Carlos in the bottom of the ninth is really what won the game for the sox. He was down 0-2, and fought back to draw the walk and load the bases. That's an AB where in the past Carlos would have gone down swinging... WTG El Caballo Ozzie needs to watch the pitch count on his starters JG pitched a career high 119 pithces in NY. Then 115 today. Cooper needs to protect JG from Ozzie having too much faith in him -- JG should have been on a HARD pitch count today... No more than 100 pitches-- I don't care if he had a no-hitter. We need this kid in October -- I doubt he was properly stretched out ot reach the 120 mark a week ago, and to back him up with a 115 pitch performance, that just shows me that somebody's not looking out for the pitcher. Ozz caught a little bit a flac for maybe having a little bit of a quick hook on buerhle in the Opener, since then, the top three starters have averaged over 112P/start -- We saw first hand what happened to Dusty's staff last year on the north side, compared to in Florida where the PC's were monitored very closely on thier young pitching.

Koch -- Pros - Has saved 40 games in 3 different seasons -- Cons-Has not performed in a Sox jersey, loss of velocity, no control Shingo -- Pros - Proven to "big game closer" 0.00 ERA in japan WS -- Cons- Hasn't performed this season Marte -- Pros - BAA less than .200 last 2 seasons, low ERA -- Cons- Poor performance with inherited runners, injured? , season opener Politte -- Pros - Has closed before, looked good so far Adkins -- Pros - Has looked good so far, got the win to day cleaning up Koch's mess (IIRC, he was closing games at AAA for a short period last year, Could be wrong here )-- Cons - VERY little ML experience Cotts -- Pros -- Not too many I was just naming guys in the pen Jackson -- Pros - same as above. Wright -- Pros - Would move Cotts to the rotation, proved he's good out of the pen last season, Could really get behind his pitches(ala Gagne/smoltz -- add velocity to his fastball, plus use that nasty hook) Cons -- He's convinced he's a starter, no closing experience

ESPN Radio Reporting option year only thing...
Gene Honda Civic replied to SoxFan562004's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the sox would get this thing done over the weekend, plus finish the sweep of KC, and take a couple on the road from TB(who's playing well), they would come back to a packed house vs. the Yankees on Tuesday. And the Goodwill of the fans would likely continue throughout the year. The sox would draw 2.4+ Million, they would have the added money to get a few peices before the Trade Deadline, and this team will be well on its way to the playoffs. Get the deal done NOW -
