QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) To be honest, I dont see much of a reason, other than the PR ramifications, that the Cubs should be a real serious suitor for one of our starters. It makes alot of sense, and I could see the Sox being interested in Murton. The Sox want a top pitching prospect in return. The cubs don't have one. Rich hill is as close as they get. Donald Veal is a good prospect (former Sox pick) but he's too far down the chain. The Sox want a guy who could be thrown into the fire in '07 if need be. They want them to be knocking down the door so that in a years time we can find ourselves in the same position, being able to move a pitcher to help field a better team in '08.

Baseball America's Top Ten Sox Prospects
Gene Honda Civic replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
My List... http://www.southsidesox.com/story/2006/11/12/15543/984 Pretty close. I left off Russell (his only discernable skill is being tall. ceiling is probably Jon Rauch, middle reliever) and Long (he was terrible in his debut. If Rogers was looking for relievers, why he didn't include the respectable Omogrosso or the freaking amazing Oneli Perez is beyond me) Rogers missed the boat on Egbert, who can get by without elite stuff. 2 HR in 160IP is pretty amazing. -

looks like an abdominal injury. Or he just got the wind nocked out of him... -
Remember last off-season when many of us (including myself) argued that Sori wasn't worth the $10M he was going to receive? We may have been wrong for a single year, but 8?! with a 70% raise?! Nope.

I love seeing more running, but why have we completely abandoned the pass? -

I liked how they used the run in the first half. But if you're going to draw extra guys up to the line of scrimmage thanks to an effective running game, you've got to attack them down the field with a vertical passing game. All these damn swing passes are doing s***. Keep the running game. Quit letting Shoop call the passing plays. -

Let's see if these officials learned anything from the mistakes their counterparts made last weekend in the same building. Good job! You learned the rules adequately enough to not make fools of yourself. Aikmen, you took 100 concussions back in your day. Your opinion is about as reliable as a meth addict's. -
Also, I hear LA is full of hot woman. A few of those included wouldn't hurt either.

Rangers Have Interest in Garland

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Enter Thomas Diamond? And John Danks? You'd have to make this move, but damn just wish it didn't have to be Garland. If you want two prospects (and I do) you take Danks and Hurley. Hurley looks like he might be 6 months away from being one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, and better than Danks. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) Broadway instead of Anderson then? They're not ridding themselves of Baldelli and Crawford in one fell swoop.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) I can access Yahoo fine. It could be an issue with your ISP and some routing tables. Our ISP at work couldnt access anything that was connected to broadwings network a few weeks ago. I know it's on my end.. I finally got through, but it was after 10 minutes of timeouts. I also get this occasional bug in Firefox that pulls up the search function when I use certain keys, specifically the apostrophe. My machine is run by evil gremlin gerbils smoking crack.

I can't connect to Yahoo! and a host of other top internet sites. But I can post here and a bunch of other less frequented sites. I don't understand WTF is going on.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) Freddy Garcia was arguably our best pitcher last season, yet people are so quick to kick him to the curb. How many times did he step it up big time when we neede him the most? Judging by his record and numbers with the Sox, it happened a lot more time than the situation you are mentioning. Freddy had just 2 quality starts against AL opponents from June 7th to September 7th. The Sox went from half a game back on June 7th, to 10 game back in August, to 5.5 back on September 7th. It would have been nice if Garcia had chosen to be clutch for, you know, that half of the season.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) Stewart has very little experiance in catching Haeger... basicly as much as Pierzynski has. Not to mention the fact that he posted a .600 OPS against LHP in AAA, and looked like Brian ANderson on Dramamine at the plate during his brief time with the big club.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) One interesting thing to note... A top Japanese lefty reliever is going to be posted real soon... Igawa is a starter. Cliff Lee is a good comp.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) It'd also allow the Sox to make a play for next year's stud Japanese pitcher, who, from the short highlights I've seen, has looked better than Matsuzaka. I really wish I had a name to go with the idea; I know Cheat knows it, as I'm sure someone else (I hope) around here does, too. Kazumi Saitoh. I wouldn't call him better than Matsu, but there's no doubt in my mind that he'll succeed in MLB. If I had to compare his stuff to anyone, I would say he resembles Roger Clemens of the last few years. 4 seam fastball in the low 90's,that he throws it upstairs effectively. splitter that falls off the table at 87-88. It's fricken nasty. Also, if Matsuzaka succeeds, if he's a top 5 pitcher in the AL, we'll never be able to outbid some of the other clubs for top Japanese pitching talent.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) Okay. I'll give in. he's a miniscule upgrade. Not enough to make a diffeerence, but whatever. Pods will be a FA if we don't offer arbitration, I believe. Defensively, Figgins is an above average center fielder. He'd figure to be the best LF in the game if he played there all year. He'd be a defensive upgrade of 10-15 runs a year. Their batting lines are a wash, but Figgins has more upside than does Pods. On the bases, it's not close. Pods has lost 2 steps, not one, and Figgins is an elite basestealer. This season there was a difference of 20 net-stolen-bases between the two, which works out to about 10 runs. So even if their bats are a wash, Figgins is 20-25 runs better than Podsednik, which works out to about 2 wins in the standings. Factor in that Figgins still has some room to improve with the bat, and you could easily make the case for Figgins being 3-5 wins better than Pods. Well worth the upgrade. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) Especially at 3B, he is a butcher there. He also has the same noodle arm as PODS if I remember correctly. Figgins is terrible at third, but he's a very good CFer, and he has a decent arm. It's not a canon, but it's very good for a little guy. WAY WAY better than Pods.

And also Nomar can't hit outside of Fenway, and Soriano will suck in Washington.
-
I normally don't bat an eye when a sports figure/famous person bite it, but when I first saw the news that he had collapsed (and I remember he had another spell earlier this season, missing the ND or Iowa game) all I thought was "I hope he gets to see the big game 1 more time." I'm really sad, moved to tears almost, that he missed out.

Levine is better than anyone else covering the Sox beat when it comes to situations like this. He takes far too much s*** here.
-
Levine said yesterday that they were talking to baltimore under the broad umbrella of improving relief pitching. This was after the Cotts-Aardsma deal.
