  1. How is Dye a better RFer than he is a LFer? And how is Ichiro pretty much the same despite never playing a MLB inning in LF?
  2. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) I'm on an 80s music fix. I downloaded Mr. Mister's "Kyrie" and Mike and The Mechanics "St. Elmo's Fire". Anu other catchy 80 tunes I should download so they can get stuck in my head as well? Does this belong in music thread? Sister.Christian.
  3. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) So is Juan Uribe still pencilled into the short stop position as everyone yelled at me he was last week? Congratulations. You've just won the Captain Douchebag award.
  4. Uribe didn't go to college. He's got some eligibility left... Who signs him first, Miami football or Iowa basketball?
  5. QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) i heard on one of the espn podcasts that some mlb officials were thinking that he would make somewhere between 16-18 per year... they brought up a good point...i guess one GM was quoted saying "why would i trade a bunch of young pitchign for arod at 16 million, when i can sign soriano for near the same, or 1 million more, without having to give up the pitching. And you know sorianos head is screwed on right, arods may not be" Wayne Krivsky is an idiot.
  6. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Only from a financial standpoint if we're talking about Crede + Sweaty Freddy. If you've got Fields>Arod>Iguchi>Konerko around the horn, you might have a below average defensive player at every infield position, including catcher. There's no denying that A-Rod has been bad at 3B the last 2 seasons, maybe even the worst 3B in the league this year. I don't think it's a stretch to say that he's lost a step defensively, and that he won't be the fielder that he once was in Seattle and Texas. Fields is crapshoot*, but you've never heard his defense described as anything more than adequate. Plus he still needs another year to develop the bat at AAA. He might run into a few more HRs than Anderson, but he's going to look worse in more ABs than BA. If you trade Freddy + Crede for Arod, you've weakened the left side of your infield defensively on a pitching staff that has declining strikeout rates and is allowing more balls to be put in play. Fields will not be able to match Crede's output, which will negate the perceived huge jump in offense from your SS.. Let's not forget that adding ARod would likely mean that we've got LF-CF combo of Sweeney-Anderson which, while stronger defensively than the '06 unit, is not exactly going to light up the scoreboards. I'd like to avoid having 2 Rookies in the lineup along with Anderson if at all possible. Also, by not acquiring any pitching in the trade for one of our starters, you've weakened our overall pitching depth... Which means that Lance Broadway is our #6, and penciled into the '08 rotation. Any deal for A-Rod that includes both a starter and Crede is a loss for the Sox. *crapshoot -- not bloodly likely to be a good player.
  7. Yeah, let's all fight about who came up with a deal that makes our team weaker.
  8. So WSI should be on the lookout for a poster named Suck the Foxtalk?
  9. The only thing worse than winning the "chase" for Juan Pierre to bat him leadoff would be recognizing that he's not a great baseballer and winning the "chase" to bat him 9th.
  10. BoDog is taking bets... What team will Alex Rodriguez be traded to? Los Angeles Angels 3/1 Boston Red Sox 5/1 St. Louis Cardinals 9/2 Philadelphia Phillies 9/1 Chicago White Sox 7/1 Chicago Cubs 8/1 Seattle Mariners 11/1 Los Angeles Dodgers 9/1 Atlanta Braves 7/1 Field 7/2 I don't understand why the Red Sox have better odds than the White Sox. I suppose it's just because that's what people are betting, like betting the Cubs to win the WS.
  11. I hope that headline makes the print version. Could the White Sox could land A-Rod? sweet!
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) I'm not going to lie, kind of made me happy to see Frank make the last out tonight. There's no shame in being shut down by Verlander, but his last two ABs against Grilli (seriously, Jason Grilli!?) and Todd Jones were pretty pathetic. I expect Bonderman to make him look foolish as well.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) Uncalled for. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) Really dumb and not funny at all. Not funny and stolen. Harry of Mac, Jurko, and Harry was popping that one off at around 4:30. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) Anyone have a clue whyAlec Baldwin wanted to get to the scene of the crash? http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&...s_crash_newyork It's the upper east side, who doesn't want to be there? In all seriousness, he might have property very near there. One of the Mets coaches reportedly lives in the building, and Piazza resided across the street while he was with the Mets.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Yet what is the downside to starting games 4 minutes later than usual? I don't think anyone is arguing over the 4 minutes. It's just that the $500K figure is a drop in the bucket. The Sox don't seem to have extracted what they could have for the move, as evidenced by the giddy spokewoman "We think it's worth way more than $500,000."
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) So, according to NBC in New York, Lidle was not rated to fly a plane using instruments, and was only supposed to fly with good visibility. and at the time of the crash, the ceiling was 1800 with a visibilty of 8 miles. Weather doesn't appear to be a factor.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Actually it's $1.5M more that can go into the payroll of the team (per Brooks Boyer) I'd say that's pretty significant. I think the argument against it is that, as the Sox are expected to have a payroll around $100M this year, the $500K per year only represents roughly a .5% increase in payroll. It's like spitting in the Lake Michigan.
  17. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) They are discussing the possible postponement of both games tonight on ESPN. Why? That's just dumb. It dishonors the deaths of anyone who they don't stop baseball for. You know like the thousands of Americans killed in Iraq. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/08/sports/b.../08yankees.html
  18. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Really? Both guys are great defensively. The first guy people are willing to give 5/50 to. And they're idiots. The second guy got his contract after that year and is now (wrongly) considered overpaid. Fixed.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) No one from 00-06 with these numbers. Who is the mystery man? Juan Uribe's '04? winnar!
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) Who is number two? Not that it matters, lol you want him Not who I thought it was... I'm stumped
  21. Watching FOX News... Following the baseball game... Interviewing people (read: Idiots) on the streets as to who they think the Cubs should hire for their new manager: "Ryne Sandburg... He's great. He played for the Cubs. He was our first baseman. And he was AWESOME!"
  22. QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) i thought the 40 man roster didn't have to be set till right before the winter meetings, i could be wrong though. Phillips is a 6-year free agent
  23. At least we have Paulino Reynoso and Eduardo Sierra
  24. Chicago Bears Monday Night Football Record: 16-32
