QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:32 AM) What have I spouted that Peter Gammons has said? I really don't want you to be the downfall of another thread, but please, in private, tell me what it is I spout. What made you think I was talking to you?
-
Well I do have an opinion, unlike some people, who shall remain nameless, that spout whatever Peter Gammons tells them.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) The space comes after punctuation, not before it. I just can't get past it, sorry. It's so consistent .I've started to wonder if the name "R.Sweeney" wasn't a typo .He had to mean "R .Sweeney ." -

They played a quote from KW saying something along the lines of "We've been putting our feelers out there concerning deals, but it's only been feelers so far. We feel like we we're in a good position. We like all of our starters, but we feel like if there is a fit, where we can get major league talent and young pitching (read minor leaguer top prospects) in return, we'd be in better position for the future." -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) Well, the Sox play the Jays the 31st of May. On the 31st of May last year, Frank hit his 11th of the season. Things could get interesting...... And on May 31 of 2005, Frank didn't play because he managed to get injured the day before in his first game back off the DL. He didn't make it through the game, and was replaced at DH by Timo Perez, who had the game winning hit in extra innings. Timo still sucks.

What's Eric Gagne's injury status? I'm pretty sure he's a free agent with the Dodgers declining his option. That would be an interesting pickup. -
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) They have mental problems, like male pedos (or at least similar) only often our society has a different reaction. South Park did a great job of addressing the double standard about a month or two back. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) Personally, I don't think she did anything wrong. Obviously men who sleep with high school students should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law... But when its the other way around, I see nothing wrong with it. No doubt in my mind. Milledge is getting traded this off-season.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 07:53 AM) - While 50 million is a ton of money, odds are the White Sox bid something in the 25-30 million dollar range. Had he gone to them, I find it hard to believe you'd all be b****ing and moaning as you are here. The Sox did not bother to submit a bid. Find me any reputable publication that says otherwise. They had no interest in participating in the process, using a direct quote from Kenny, "and that has everything to do with his representation."

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) See, it's funny you mention that the Yankees have paid that amount the last two years through the Luxury Tax. Are the Yankees also going to get almost all of it back through a TV deal in Japan, and then make money on the investment through merchandise, etc? I didn't think so, blogster. Just stop trying to claim your s*** don't stink. No the Yankees money gets redistributed back into baseball to help level the playing field. When the Red Sox overspend, as you so astutely pointed out, circumnavigating the luxury tax, that money goes directly into the pockets of the Lions' owners. So, really. The Yankees aren't the ones gaming the system, it's the Red Sox. You'll also recall that the free agent compensation laws were altered in the new CBA -- they were set to be chopped altogether -- Why? Because no team in baseball has benefited more from offering departing free agents arbitration than the Red Sox. Other teams began to cry foul at the Red Sox gaming of the system. And now you're rationalizing the money spent, spouting the company line almost word-for-word from Peter Gammons about TV deals, advertising potential, and untapped markets. Give me a break. The Yankees may only know one way to be evil, but Boston has teams of Havard grads lined up to think of new ways to be evil. What's the difference?
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) Why? The Red Sox cannot afford to go over the luxury tax, the Yankees can. This money doesn't go towards that tax. Do you understand how the luxury tax works? Because this posting fee will be about equal to the luxury tax that the Yankees will have paid out in '06 and '07 combined. You can spout all the "we can't pay the luxury tax" bulls*** you want. It doesn't make it true. Call it whatever you want, luxury tax, posting fee, dowry, I don't give a damn. Just stop trying to claim your s*** don't stink.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) It makes his arbitration number go up significantly. If anything, it will make teams wait for the Sox to non-tender him. If Juan Pierre gets $10 million a year, Pods is hoping he goes to arbitration. Actually, it shouldn't. As I understand it, at arbitration, your numbers are compared to those with similar status, or within 1-year of similar status, to help determine your award -- though, the actual award is esentially determined by the two figures the two sides submit, since the only thing the arbiter does is pick one or the other. Since Scott would only be in his second year of arbitration, he wouldn't be compared to any free agents, just other 4th-6th year players, the Eric Byrnes' of the world. In the current marketplace Arbitration most definitely surpresses contract values of arbitration eligible players as compared to their free-agent eligible counterparts.... Think of it this way. Joe Crede will get around $7M at arbitration this year. Meanwhile Aramis Ramirez just got 5/$73M. Factoring in defense, Crede had a better '06, but he'll make about half as much. -

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Gene Honda Civic replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
Just heard an brief interview with KW from Bruce Levine on ESPN1000.... Kenny was asked whether there would be a long-term deal for Joe Crede in the off-season. He said that the issues regarding Crede's back have been overblown by people (including myself, though, he in no way mentioned me ) but that he didn't expect a deal to be reached "and that has everything to do with his representation." He said the Sox and Boras have different views on the value of players and he doesn't expect that to change anytime soon. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) And you really think he will just stay out of it? I don't buy it for a second. What was the last moves the Yankees made that had Georgy boy's fingerprints on them? I have to go back two years to find the Womack, (All george) Pavano, Wright (heavily George) and Big Unit (George mandated, Cash executed) deals. I suppose you could argue that Damon was George, but there was no arguing that he was a good player, whereas Womack is only a good player on an alternate planet, and Pavano & Wright's one-year-wonder status was not hard to predict. (I compared Pavano to Garland at the time, and Wright was bouncing around AAA teams a year before the Yankees gave him a 3-year deal.) Also, Clippard arguably has a better resume than McCarthy did entering the '05 season when he was considered one of the top prospects in all of baseball, and clearly the Sox top prospect. Clippard has done just as well as McCarthy at every stop and has done most of it while being a year or more younger. At similar stages in their career, Clippard has pitched three straight seasons of full-season ball (about 150 innings each year) while McCarthy had just 165 innings of full-season ball under his belt. It's not like he's a chump. -

There are no fingerprints of the Boss on the first two moves of the Yankees off-season, nor in the quest for Matsuzaka. It sure seems like Cash is the one running the show, which means no Hughes. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) Britton, Sanchez, and Hughes have to be names that KW would like to see in return for one of his starters. Britton is a reliever, so, meh. Sanchez has injury issues. Hughes will not be traded. Clippard is the name you need to learn here. Durable. High strikeout rate. Good control. Young, or age appropriate for top prospect status, for his league. -
2006 MLB Catch-All Thread

El Duque is reportedly close to signing a 2-year/$12M deal with the Mets. That's a 2-year commitment to a player over 40 who has averaged 140 innings with an ERA+ of 92. And people wonder why one year of Garcia at 10M is an attractive option. Also, Boras has sent out his portfolio to interested teams on Zito. The discussion reportedly begins at 7/$105M. LOL!
