If that was a pass. Didn't it go backwards, and thus was a live ball? -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Just want to throw this out there: I'd only be in favor of a 4 team playoff if a playoff ever arises in the future. Any more and college football will lose all its excitement. You have to go to 8 teams to appease the BCS conferences who would each be guaranteed a representative. I'd go with 8 - The 6 BCS conference champions (Which might neccesitate the Big 10 & Pac 10 to come up with a play-in solution) and 2 at larges. ND would be guaranteed entry by meeting each of two criteria. 1) Ranking in the BCS top 8 (I propose keeping it around) 2) Ranking in the top 2 of the at-large eligible teams which consists of those from non-BCS conferences and non conference Champions from BCS conferences. Seeded by BCS, it would most likely look something like this in '06.. #1 OSU vs. #15 Wake Forest ----- \ \ ------- / \ / \ #4 LSU vs. #5 Louisville ------- \ \ ----------- #3 Florida vs. #8 USC ---------- / \ / \ / -------/ / / #2 Mich vs. #10 Oklahoma-------- Notre Dame misses out because they rank behind the two at-large teams (#2 Michigan and #4 LSU) -
I have not read a book in about a year. I haven't touched the couple of books that I had asked for last Christmas. 2006 was the year of Dumb... and Japanime slash pr0n.

Jose Guillen to the Mariners
Gene Honda Civic replied to Frank the Tank 35's topic in The Diamond Club
I thought Guillen would have been a good signing, but only at about $2M guaranteed for '07. He's too big of a question mark for '07. I don't expect him to approach anywhere near 100% until September or so... I thought a $2M deal with a large option ($9-10M) would get it done, and he'd slot right in for Dye in '08. Obviously that was not the case. Let the Mariners flush $5M down the toilet in '07. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) Ya, ready to put my computer in the snow bank outside. I use FireFox. Updated to the most recent version. I would say 7/10 times, playing anything on Youtube makes the everything lock up, have to restart it. No Ctrl-Alt-Delete, have to restart. Thought it might be Fox, so used IE. Did the same thing. So what the hell? Windows Media always works fine, but it's the YouTube, DailyMotion type players. Any Ideas??? See if you can update your flash players.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) So say if you're another team and you could sign a similar reliever to Riske, without giving up a draft pick, then well you would probably do that. So the Sox probably figure, if they offered arbitration and no-one wants to give up Riske, then well they have to keep him, because Riske will accept arbitration, and the Sox may have a guy like Charlie Haeger or David Aardsma in mind for Riske's role. Also it wasn't like Riske had a great season, and he's not very good at striking out hitters, and had problems from time to time with walking guys. At least if you're the Orioles, you're trying to sign "quality" relievers, and although I don't like the $$$ and contracts they're giving out, Riske doesn't fall under that category. Riske is better than LaTroy Hawkins who just got $3.5M for a year. I understand what you're saying. Offering Riske arbitration would have limited the suitors at free-agency, but when LaTroy is getting $3.5M/yr, Walker 4/year, and Baez is getting $6/year. Riske will sign for multiple years with somebody for more than the $2.5M he would have gotten at arbitration. The worst thing that happened if Riske accepted arbitration with the Sox was they paid him $1+M to pitch from April-June while one of the guys they wanted to be in the pen was sitting in Charlotte. The reward for paying him $1+M before they trade him possibly would be greater than the draft picks they would have received by offering him arbitration. It's win-win. The only way they lose is by not playing the game. Which apparently is what Williams and Co. chose to do. It's a HUGE mistake, and I don't really see how it can be argued any other way.
-
So dumb. I don't see the reasoning when LaTroy Hawkins is getting 3.5M offers. I'm not opposed to the Podsednik signing, as it doesn't mean a whole helluva lot. He might even have more trade value now that he has an actual price tag. BUT, with the two "moves" that we've made today, Williams is looking a lot more like the Todd Ritchie version of himself.

Kenny doesn't outright lie to the media. He makes lies of omission. This isn't a lie, but could be a lie of omission. If he says that Crede's not being shopped, well Crede's not being actively shopped. Does that mean that Crede will stay with the Sox this year? Not necessarily. Kenny would be dumb if he didn't listen to all offers for players, but he doesn't have to accept those offers. It's very difficult to make the '07 Sox a better club in the absence of Crede, and that's why I think Crede will still be with the Sox on opening day, no matter what KW says to the media.

Insider is junk. Here is the original article it was referencing/recycling, which is now superseded by this article.

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
Gene Honda Civic replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Crede Garcia and Tracey LOL Crede and Garcia = 3 player-years of not-quite-All Star talent Santana and Figgins = 7 player-years of not-quite All-Star talent (and Santana has the potential to be a perennial All-Star by the time he reaches FA) This may be tough to see..... 7 > 3 Adenhart = one of the top pitching prospects in baseball Tracey = AAA reliever with control problems. Adenhart >>>>>>>>>>> Tracey Your deal is ludicrous. -
I don't understand how anyone can think this is a good deal Eaton has exactly one year with an ERA+ over 100, 7 years ago, the other 6 were all below average. This is a 3-year deal to a below average pitcher who has a history of not being able to stay on the field. Where's the value in that?

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins

For all the s*** thrown at Levine, he's far more reputable than the guys at the Score. I'll wait until I hear confirmation from somebody that doesn't work at 670 before I even begin to think this has a remote chance of happening. -

I'm unconvinced that the hand injury happened during the game. Grossman's first throw of the game looked like it slipped out of his hand, and he had at least one other that looked goofy as it left his hand before the fumble/injury. -
Our 40-man is full. We can't pick anyone.

Wrong offseason to sit on our hands
Gene Honda Civic replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) Yup. Gimmie a new LFer, perhaps another good bullpen arm, and get that great haul for Garcia (or whichever starter is traded). And then let's head to Arizona. You're forgetting NO SANDY ALOMAR! -
QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 25, 2006 -> 12:49 PM) That is the worst possible way to look at our offense in 2005. It was incredibly consistent in putting enough runs on the board to win, something that is overlooked by just saying "it sucked because it was 9th in the AL". This is just plain false. We scored Consistently awful.

Gregor.Blanco. Here's a guy the Sox should be targeting. The Braves are kinda in the market for a leadoff guy. I saw they were in the conversation for Roberts, whose skills are pretty redundant with Mr. Dergan's. I don't know what the market will be for Pods, since i don't know if there is a team out there stupid enough to think that he can play centerfield. Gregor Blanco is a 22 year old Venezuelan recently added to the Braves 40-man roster. He spent time between AA and AAA this year, posting OBPs of .397 and .408 in the Southern and International Leagues, respectively. He also stole 31 bags, though he got caught 15 times. He's currently playing for a certain team that is now being coached, at least in some part, by Ozzie Guillen in Venezuela, the Tiburones. In the league where Anderson and Fields couldn't hit their weight, Blanco's hitting .295/.415/.409. Because Gregor has absolutely ZERO power, you're not going to see him on any top prospect list, (Sickels didn't list him in his most recent Braves top 20. BA didn't even name him to the top 20 players recently added to the 40-man roster, while they put Heath Phillips 9th) but he belongs in the conversation. He's posted OBPs at or very near .400 at every stop in the minors, and figures to be able to do the same at the majors. I suspect that Ozzie's got a good scouting report on the kid, and if he feels he can play, we'll be making a push for him. However, there is one troubling sign. I don't know how involved Ozzie is with the Tiburones, but whoever is filling out the lineup cards down there keeps putting Blanco 9th, with Alex Sanchez (Yes, I'm pretty sure it's that Alex Sanchez) leading off. Let's just hope that if Pods is gone, we've got a replacement that hasn't been dumped by the Tigers, Giants, and DRays. Because Sanchez is tearing up the VENZ.

I agreed to watch my brother's dog, who doesn't exactly get along with my dog, this weekend. (We never do Thanksgiving in my family until Sunday because multiple members of the fam work in industries that don't care that a Thursday in November is a holiday, but they can always request the Sunday after it off.) He's off hunting. I don't do hunting. So I've spent the past 5 hours trying to keep two dogs from killing each other. I didn't even remember that tonight is the best bar night of the year. I can't believe I'm giving up getting laid for this. He owes me one hell of a Christmas gift.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) If indeed he got 2 DUI's in 3 years, and has shown attitude "problems", then I rescind my interest. one of the DUIs was when he was going the wrong way on an exit ramp (4-5 hours after a game). I think his first offense was swept under the table too.
