Miguel Batista. MIGUEL BATISTA?!?!
Gene Honda Civic replied to CanOfCorn's topic in The Diamond Club
Miguel Batista is a good pitcher, as opposed to say an Adam Eaton who got a 3/24. Batista pitches 190IP of league average or better ball every year. Solid pitcher. He's a better signing than Gil Meche. I should add that I really wanted us to sign him in '04 when he was last a free agent. -
Houston not the only team after Garland

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) Vazquez has over 200 decisions in the major leagues. He had a couple of great seasons in Montreal and a couple of poor ones. The Yankees couldn't fix him, neither could the D-Backs. Even Coop couldn't fix him and he fixes everyone. Expecting Vazquez to be anything more than a .500 pitcher is being overly optimistic IMO. Which Player would you rather have? IP H R ER HR BB K ERA Player A 200.1 184 116 108 29 98 160 4.85 Player B 202.2 206 116 109 23 56 184 4.84 Answer: (Highlight to read) This is the first calendar year of Contreras and Vazquez in a White Sox uniform. I'd say that Coop fixed Vazquez just as much as he did Contreras. -

QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Dec 10, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) this organization has done really well with the "young guy" in the 5th spot over the years. where's Danny Wright and the merry-go-round of 5th starters when u need them? Sure... DW had mediocre minor league numbers (7.5 K/9, 3.5 BB/9, 3.60 ERA) while being about a year old for his league at each stop. Then posted a 5.50 ERA with 51BB/50K in his first 100 Major league innings. BMac had excellent minor league numbers (10.25 K/9, 1.79BB/9, 3.39 ERA) while being about a year young for his league at each stop. Then posted a 4.18 ERA with 29BB/79K in his first 100 major league innings, where the run environment was about .2-.5 runs higher than when Wright came up thanks to the new roof configuration and the overall scoring going up. Solid comparison. Marry Otti. -
Yes, because dismissing Buehrle's headgear as old news because he wore it 2 months ago while bringing up moves made by the front office 1-2 years ago to support your own argument is not remotely hypocritical.

Are the Sox going to dump the whole team?
Gene Honda Civic replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Incedently, Neal Cotts, who we just traded technically has all of his remaining options left after getting put on the 40-man in late August of '03 and never making a return to the minors. However, should he suck and the Cubs think that they can send him back to AAA Iowa, I believe that he has the right to refuse assignment as a player with 3 consecutive uninterupted years on the major league roster. This is part of the reason he was traded. If the Sox believe that Logan and Thornton are better LH options out of the pen, taking them north out of spring training, they were in danger of Neal becoming a free agent and losing him for nothing. -

One option remaining. Can we dump pollyannas from the bandwagon? -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 01:35 AM) Those two might go hand in hand, meaning with his shaky control from last season he might have been falling behind more hitters and then served one up. Hopefully he cuts down on the control problems next season. Not really. The HR rate was pretty consistent throughout the season. His control kept getting worse though. The HR rate was largely attributed to park though. He allowed 10 more HR at home (reading is a good hitters park)... 16.3% of his FB went for HR at home compared to 10.8% on the road, with 63% of his IP coming at home. We'll see if he can hack a small park at AAA too, it'll be a good guide for USCF.

Gio will compete with Logan and others for the final spot in the pen. He will have to smoke Logan in ST to make the team though. Limiting his innings to LOOGY duties after the season he had where he showed that he still has some significant flaws to work through would be a dumb move in the long run. Look for him to start at Charlotte, where he's a phone call away if Logan/LOOGY fails. If he is able to cut his BB and HR rates at AAA, he returns to elite prospect status, and is penciled into the '08 rotation.

I hope the Sox draft Mel Kiper's Hair Helmet this year.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) So Luis Terrero is in a pretty good position to make the 25 man roster now possibly? not until Pods is gone. I'm counting 25 without terrero. 5 starters. 6 relievers. 2 catchers. Infield of Gload, Kong, Iguchi, Cintron (not signed yet though, could be gone), Uribe, Crede, Ozuna, Thome -- That's 8 Outfield of Mack, Dye, Anderson, Pods (4) That's 25. Somebody's got to go for terrero to make the club.

Williams working on extension for Buehrle/Garcia

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) The Sox only pay Approx $7.2 M for Thome? Close. The deal is they pay him only $8M per year, with the Phils kicking in the rest. There is an option on his contract in a couple of years and reportedly there is also an gentleman's agreement in place for the Phils to kick in money on the option year as well. -

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) I would love to watch this. They should put it on pay per view. FOX is going to air it over the holiday season immediately after their special with Michael Jackson, "I Didn't Molest Any Young Boys. I Love Children. But If We Were All To Suspend Some Doubt, That I Did Indeed Diddle Little Boys' Dongs, Here's How." -
Rumor:Garcia to Philles for Arow + Madson/Floyd

The rangers want a cheap CFer. They've inquired about Rowand and Anderson. Should we hold both Rowand and Anderson, we could strike a deal from a position of strength. /Say no to Rowand -

Williams working on extension for Buehrle/Garcia
Gene Honda Civic replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Any extension would likely come with a limited no trade clause like the ones that Contreras and Garland received on their extensions. It gives them a year or two of stability, but gives the Sox wiggle room at the end of the contract. -

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) Colts also have 8 playoff appearances since 1991 while the Bears have 4. So the bears suck harder in both the playoffs AND regular season. Way to make a point. -

The Bears offense hasn't moved the ball across midfield yet today. They inherited the ball at the Minnesota 22 early, and we all know what happened then. Since then, they haven't moved more than a yard past the 50. -
