Joe Kelly up in the Sox bullpen, Lucas at 98 pitches.

Congratulations Lucas on career strikeout number 1,000. He needs 10 more to reach 1,000 for the White Sox, hope he gets it in over his likely final two starts.

Pat Benatar could make it work. Do better Twins.

Washington can pass and Colorado can tie the White Sox in the standings today, leaving Oakland and Kansas City the only teams beneath them. Eloy injured and starting. Vaughn cannot play today, might possibly play next week. Perez, Sheets and Elvis are on the bench to relax and reflect on what has gone wrong in their lives to reach this point in their careers.

Not saying Grifol is solid, but he is playing with 3-4 quality position players, and filling in the other 5-6 lineup spots daily with either injured players or players who shouldn’t even be on the roster. Hahn’s non existent depth has been the same over 11 seasons, and cannot be overcome by any manager. Joe Espada looked at how bad this organization is and decided remaining a bench coach in Houston was preferable to taking the White Sox managerial job. Hahn should not make any further managerial moves, the next GM must be allowed to have a clean slate and choice of manager.

Tim and Yoan will be highly motivated next season playing for their 2025 contract. However, I think Liam will ultimately need Tommy John surgery and won’t pitch again for the White Sox unless he signs as a free agent in 2025 if he still has the desire and ability to pitch at his age and after what he went through the past year. If Jerry wanted to spend money to bring in a solid starting RFer and 2B, and at least two solid #2/#3 starting pitchers to replace Giolito and Lynn, and a few solid relief pitchers including a closer, than they could possibly be competitive. I just don’t see Jerry committing that level of money, or bringing in someone competent to spend it properly.

That’s fine if the Sox are that desperate, but bring him up August 1 or 2024. However, he would be better off developing and playing regularly at Charlotte until then, as would the White Sox roster. Carlos has started one game since his July 1st call up. Just another example of abysmal roster management and player development.

He was a Rule 5 pick. Now this late into a meaningless season, and knowing how his career turned out, it’s easy to say he should have been rostered the final two months regardless, but De Leon was a solid 2 WAR pitcher for the Sox the two seasons he pitched here. Meanwhile Bobby Bonilla went on to make 67 errors at third base across two seasons (32 and 35 in ‘88 and ‘89) before Jim Leyland said enough is enough and moved him to Right Field to salvage his bat. Also, it’s highly unlikely the Jerry Reinsdorf would sign him once he became a Free Agent after 1991, though he could have been a difference maker in 1990.

It’s insanity. Unless Eloy hits a home run, not likely with an injured groin (last HR 7/6), he is risking exacerbating his groin injury if he manages to reach base, or requires a pinch runner when you already have a limited bench with three catchers and Vaughn wearing a walking boot. This abysmal roster management results in infielders botching plays late in RF, because you have at least two position players on the active roster who should be on the IL (Eloy and Vaughn), with a third spot wasted because Perez is up for no legitimate reason. Fire Rick Hahn yesterday.

And there were forces beyond just day to day poor management that caused the three other epic failure seasons. 1932 49-102 Charles Comiskey died 10/27/31. Settling estate in Great Depression, low point post Judge KKK Landis 1920 destruction of the championship core. 1948 51-101 MLB Desegregation Era. Many Sox fans rather team lose than sign black players. Minnie Minoso was signed in 1951, the start of the great 1950s teams. A few holdouts are still upset in 2023. 1970 56-106 White flight post 1968 riots, Sox played in Milwaukee 1968-1969 exploring sale to Bud Selig which was blocked by AL owners. 2018 62-100 Rick Hahn was born March 20, 1971. His parents are friends with the Reinsdorf family. This has resulted in fans embarking on a second Lost White Sox decade, with a generation of fans under 21 unable to remember the last successful White Sox postseason team.

Sox would have been better if Pollock stayed one more year. The Sox would have avoided five years of Benintendi.
