  1. Here is Houston's Roster. Greinke is pitching out of the bullpen.
  2. Tickets still available for Sox fans in Texas or at O'Hare or Midway.
  3. I don't see rosters for either team yet on their respective MLB.com or Twitter sites.
  4. The other 29 owners / teams can do what the Dodgers do. They choose not to, many choose to spend less than what they receive from MLB General Revenue (National Contract, MLB.Com and other national revenue). The Yankees took in $163M more revenue than the Dodgers pre-COVID, but have stayed at or below the tax for years. The Yankees are tanking, relative to the revenue they bring in. Kudos to the Dodgers who actually attempt to provide their fan base a team worthy of their revenue. Yankee fans should seriously reconsider reupping season tickets for a team that does not give a shit about competing for a World Series. Same goes for the dozen tanking teams and other teams like the Cubs not spending anywhere close on a pro-rata basis of revenue generated on the on-field product.
  5. The 55 Cub batters will have a new hitting coach next season. https://theathletic.com/2870647/2021/10/05/sources-cubs-hitting-coach-anthony-iapoce-wont-return-with-more-changes-possible/
  6. Three of the four series should be awesome, not sure what if anything Atlanta can muster against Milwaukee's staff. I'm cheering for Tampa, San Francisco and Milwaukee this round.
  7. Dodgers remain undefeated in Max Scherzer starts (12-0 including tonight).
  8. Updated All Time Postseason Winning Percentage (MLB 1903-2021): 1.000 George Stallings 4-0 (1914 Boston N.L.) 1.000 Hank Bauer 4-0 (1966 Baltimore) .875 Gil Hodges 7-1 (1969 New York N.L.) .800 Alex Cora 12-3 (2018 & 2021 Boston A.L.) .800 Bill Carrigan 8-2 (1915 & 1916 Boston A.L.) .778 Joe Altobelli 7-2 (1983 Baltimore) .750 Ozzie Guillen 12-4 (2005 & 2008 Chicago A.L.) Current Manager Playoff Winning Percentages .800 Alex Cora (Boston 12-3) .591 Dave Roberts (Los Angeles N.L. 39-27) .547 Tony La Russa (Chicago A.L. 1-3; Oakland 19-13; Saint Louis 50-42) .538 Kevin Cash (Tampa Bay 14-12) .524 Brian Snitker (Atlanta 11-10) .500 Aaron Boone (New York A.L. 11-11) .462 Craig Counsell (Milwaukee 6-7) .456 Dusty Baker (San Francisco 11-13; Chicago N.L. 6-6; Cincinnati 2-7; Washington 4-6; Houston 8-5) .308 Mike Shildt (Saint Louis 4-9) .000 Gabe Kapler (San Francisco 0-0)
  9. Chris Taylor, covers the run line. 3-1 Final in Chavez Ravine!
  10. Who was that masked man?
  11. So, is Trevor watching the game?
  12. Loving this game, every pitch matters, Give me 2-1 baseball over 10-8 everyday of the week.
  13. 1-1 into the bottom of the 5th.
  14. If Abreu is healthy enough to play at all, he is healthy enough to play 1B. Abreu at less than 100% is a better option at 1B than any alternative option.
  15. To be the man, you gotta to beat the man.
  16. This may have been posted before, but figured it could help folks here.
  17. As if a RSN in Hawaii is going to add Oakland and the corresponding $5-$10 per month to a cable package in Hawaii, or the Cleveland Guardians in Buffalo NY, based on a small subset of subscriber phone calls. The teams own the RSNs and don't share this revenue (or equity value) when negotiating with the MLBPA. They care more about their RSNs than growing the game or even keeping current fans vested with access. Same with the auxiliary revenue (Sports Books, Ricketts Hotels, etc.), revenue that is "off the books" in terms of what owners have included in negotiations with players. I get why they do it, but they still should have a price point where you can satisfy both the cable systems and fans, to compensate the cable systems by-passed with a direct subscription paid to MLB. I don't expect anything to change, the cable companies and to a lessor extent MLB is in a death spiral, and they will suck out as much of the current setup as possible, at least until cable companies / providers are finally extinct. MLB is fine continuing to shrink the fan base, as long as they can extract more revenue per person from those who remain.
  18. You have the option to subscribe or not, but you can watch any game if you do choose to subscribe. You are not blacked out of Dallas or Houston games if you live in El Paso, or Oklahoma City, or Montana, or Guam. The league makes it available to all. You don't have the ridiculous map you see in the quoted post (NBA has a similar blackout policy, but not as egregious). https://nflst.directv.com/
  19. It is what it is., but not how I would have slotted the rotation.
  20. Was Tony nearly two hours late for the press conference? The video doesn't start until nearly the end of the timeline (around 1:50). Tony looks more alive and human like than all of his previous press conferences this season. https://www.mlb.com/video/live-white-sox-press-conference-3511 Tim Anderson is on now.
  21. Updated odds after the Boston game are in Bold. Game 1 Odds aren't out because La Russa and Hahn are pulling Nagy and Pace "Strategery". https://www.vegasinsider.com/mlb/odds/futures/
  22. They black it games in an mostly futile attempt to pressure additional cable and internet companies to add their RSN beyond their current market. Folks in Mobile Alabama are not a captive audience to drive to any of the three teams which control their TV market. They also aren't likely to want to pay extra to carry any of the three. Same with fans in Iowa, Vegas, Hawaii, Montana, Buffalo NY or other places with fans with at hundreds of miles between them and the nearest game. These territorial rights were written at the inception of television in the 1950s/1960s. Owners aren't willing to give up these rights, regardless of whether they will make anything on them. It's not just fans which get screwed. The Baltimore Orioles are able to screw over the Washington Nationals since Baltimore owns the rights to the entire area, the Nationals own no rights beyond what they are able to negotiate with the Orioles, with a portion of Nationals broadcast revenue owned by the Orioles in perpetuity.
  23. Correct, I had the first 6 game win streak in May (and most consecutive threads (9), because of also starting the second game of a doubleheader after a first game loss, which they won before losing the following day). @Tnetennba had the second and most recent 6 game win streak. His also has a better season winning percentage (8-3 .727 vs. my 9-5 .643), and should have first honors if we are selecting based on merit. That said, I take Game Threads very seriously. I kick the thread off with quality information, and have intense focus throughout the day in an effort to coax the best possible White Sox performance.
