This team thinking vaughn can play some RF with Eloy back could blow the whole playoffs. He is starting to show his clumsy. They could have used a RF pickup
We have found there is a limit to the Lawrence Holmes magic dust. The Sox have pushed it too far lol

Oh sorry. I was off wondering how long we let Robert beat up on AAA pitching before he comes back to put an end to the clown show.
He should take as much time as it takes to safely return. Anything happens to him and the clown show is extended indefinitely

How did Ozzie pick Zavala to click?

Not sure I understand what you are getting at. If Robert and Eloy stay down longer are they less prone to injury here ? Do they play with less intensity or not run as hard there as they do here ? And if that is the case how does playing with less intensity or effort prepare them to play with more effort ? They can get hurt just as easily in the minors as here but at least we could get a big HR for the Sox rather than with the Knights.
I understand the concerns specifically related to what happened to Engel and I had to question how Engel played when he was rehabbing with Charlotte due to him stealing 4 bases and then coming back and getting hurt again. He had gotten to the point at Charlotte where he seemed to playing at full speed and testing his leg and passed the audition so it's not just a matter of saying leave them down longer and they won't get hurt again when they come back up. Injuries happen regardless of how long you rehab .
I also want Robert to use as much time as is needed before he comes back but relating that to injury prevention once he does come back doesn't compute. If the issue is Roberts torn muscle that injury will always be a concern in the future since we have heard many times the once a certain part of your body is injured it is more susceptible to being reinjured no matter how much one does to prevent it.
Granted, but if they didn’t blow it with Engel at first, we may assume they were probably exercising all due caution because they are professionals. As we have seen many times, franchises don’t hold back the horses as much as they can or should. The deal with Eloy’s groin is most likely fait accompli because of a long period of inactivity followed by a lack of a longer ramp up. Guys get hurt a lot more as they begin the year just because. His year only just begun (as it were). Anyway, I am certainly not an expert on hip flexor tears, but he is almost certainly coming back from it way quicker than you or I would. They can do that with all the therapy devices at their disposal to a certain extent. But he could probably use a more extensive ramp up to mirror a real spring training post injury comeback. Engel gave me pause. It was very surprising. He almost certainly came back too quick.

He looking the part on both sides of the ball.
He *looks* like he should steal 90 bases. I don’t get it. But so does Moncada *look*. One of life’s mysteries. I will say that as long as he shows smart speed on the basepaths and good small ball game, that is another team need on top of raw hitting and fielding. Going forward the Sox need a speed injection. That’s why I am hopeful on Cespedes because where else it can come from other than Robert I do not know.

Me thinks many disillusioned cub fans thought Ricketts was going to buy whatever talent needed to keep winning. And that cost was never ever an issue. Turns out Tom wasnt the cash cow w unlimited spending many thought he was
But that is a fantasy more than it ever existed anywhere. Unless a team is able to maintain in the win-loss column, 99% of the time every team starts cutting back. I would never defend a guy like Ricketts, but I can see that he is a typical owner, even a typical big market owner. The Dodgers are playing with lottery money from TV right now. But they good too.

If Kimbrel stays dominant through the playoffs I predict his value on the open market would be similar to Hendricks 4/55. Maybe a tad less. So on a 1/16 deal there is real value there.
With only maybe a dozen teams shopping at the deadline for relief help and many clubs already way over the luxury tax threshold, it seems reasonable that there should be equal to or more of a market for an elite reliever next offseason.
I personally think it is unlikely the Sox will keep two relievers making 30 million dollars on the roster next season, I predict the Sox get a similar or better return for Kimbrel than they paid yesterday. The biggest risk to this deal is the chance that Kimbrel struggles or gets hurt and damages his value.
I agree. but there will be a discussion over which closer to trade. My prediction is that ultimately we will parlay Madrigal into a solution in right field, or add to the farm system to help recoup Madrigal’s loss. But at the same time I do lean against the Madrigal deal just because it seems like running into a brick wall in the World Series at best. But getting us there is defensible, again if we can recoup some of the loss of long term talent.

Cubs were dismantled and downgraded to a AAA team today. Sad for a major market. All their current major stars are gone, on top of Darvish, Schwarber,Caratini at the beginning of the season. If I were a Cub fan, I would not be happy as they had a core group that could have contended, if the Cubs would have kept Darvish and invested in quality starting pitching. Their starters this season were pretty bad. All excitement in Chicago now belongs to the Sox. Let’s take advantage and take over Chicago baseball. Sox reign!
That team wouldn’t contend. There was too much money to be spent , and that doesn’t happen unless the team already won recently. They aren’t going to spend like the Dodgers. I am not so sure about the fan unhappiness about the direction the team is taking. Sure maybe casual fans. The hardcore is different. Were devoted Sox fans upset when we pulled the plug on the Sale Quintana era? I was kind of elated after I knew for sure that team would just be tread-milling to infinity and beyond (as usual). It’s slightly different too in that the Cubs already used this strategy once to win a world series. Most Cubs fans understand the deal. The ones that don’t are player fans. The laundry fans are probably cool with it. Lots of fun to be dreaming on a loaded farm system too. I had my fun watching the Sox build myself. What it amounts to is setting a solid course rather than wandering aimlessly through mediocrity. That can be comforting. Cubs fans go to the park to eat hot dogs, enjoy the neighborhood and look at the ivy as much as the game anyway.

I have been on the record plenty as one of the biggest Madrigal supporters on this board. Has anyone even questioned if the organization was worried about his recovery at all? And for a guy that was sold with ++ speed, his leg injury could impact that fallacy even more. Look, he is gonna be a .300 hitter his whole career. will we miss that. YEP. does it matter if they win a championship this season or next? NOPE. Hate the fWar longterm impact of this deal, but Hahn saying screw that shows just how much they mean business. and Kimbrel very well may be the closer in two months. that type of insurance is just unheard of come October.
Doubt the Cubs wouldn’t have had their doctors completely cleared Madrigal medically

Its really too bad he couldn't just keep his mouth shut and let him leave quietly. There is just no good reason for it.
Stoney is the White Sox baseball analyst, its his job basically to analyze the team. It’s probably fine. Just too soon for some. Although the Sox may not appreciate the draft crack.

I have always felt the same way. Not that I didn’t like him

I have to imagine they got better offers for sure. They got a good to very good 2B and a relief pitcher. Contrast this deal with the Chapman deal.
If this works….

Why do we keep assuming Moncada will move or Burger is actually capable of handling the position of 2B in anything more than a stopgap sort of way, like Vaughn yesterday?
Fair enough. But many things happen in baseball that are far from guaranteed. Teams try things out.

The Dodgers can’t be beat. The effort is nice but likely futile sad to say.

Relievers with an extra year always cost more than a rental player at the deadline.
The Sox still would have a couple huge trade pieces next year to recoup. 2 elite closers is a lot of flexibility.

I was about to crown Hoyer as the winner of the deadline if he got Bart.
Ok yeah Bart. The Cubs would have the middle of the field locked up in the future with Bart, Madrigal, Hoerner and the Crow kid.
