  1. If they're going to build it, it needs to have a retractable roof so they can get a Super Bowl and Final Four, among other things.
  2. If the Sox keep winning, there comes a point where if Cleveland is within 3-6 games, they're in a strong WC position and the worst that could happen at that point is falling down to a WC spot. Even a pessimistic 1-3 vs HOU and 11-7 vs PIT/SEA/MIN/DET/MIN/BAL still leaves the Sox 20 games over at the AS break.
  3. I was watching MLB Tonight last night and they had quite a few look-ins at Houston. The ball really flies out of that place. Can't expect to win these games 3-2. Offense is going to have to produce. Hopefully Engel can man CF for 2 or 3 of the games, and hopefully Yermin is not in the lineup more than once or twice.
  4. If that's honestly all it would take the trade should be made today, and Hahn should be looking for someone who would take Eaton and pay 1/2 of his remaining salary. I'm skeptical that it won't take more, though.
  5. Leury Garcia, and worrying about this when there is a < 1% chance you'll need a 3rd catcher is pointless.
  6. How much do you give up for Frazier? One of Sheets/Burger + one of Stiever/Thompson?
  7. So, we know the following players have a place on the roster when healthy: Grandal, Collins, Abreu, Garcia, Anderson, Moncada, Jimenez, Robert, Engel, Vaughn That leaves three spots. How many of Mercedes, Mendick, Lamb, Hamilton, Goodwin, Eaton do you keep? If you're going to get an outfielder, it has to be a lefty and has to be certain to outproduce all of Hamilton, Lamb, Goodwin and Eaton to justify getting rid of all of them. If you're going to get an infielder, it has to outproduce a Mendick/Leury platoon. I think the IF option is more likely. I don't see an OF acquisition barring further injury. One of Lamb/Hamilton/Goodwin/Eaton will make a viable platoon partner for Engel, and a trade for a 2B is made, then Leury also becomes an OF option. On the pitching side, the five starters plus Hendriks, Bummer, Crochet, Kopech and Marshall are not going anywhere. That leaves Heuer, Fry, Foster, Ruiz, Burr for three spots. I could see a bullpen acquisition to fill one of the three remaining spots. Hahn is technically correct in that it's too soon to know if the Sox will be "buyers" without knowing the price, but it's not too soon to know that the Sox will at least be "shoppers" for a 2B and RP.
  8. Giants a substantial favorite to tie that record tonight.
  9. How do they not walk him, there? That's more stupid than all the stupid moves Tony made today combined.
  10. Engel was unavailable to play today, but I wonder if he can at least pinch run?
  11. If pitches 4 inches off the plate are strikes, then that's a swing.
  12. After the two that got called off the plate, he had to swing.
  13. Brosseau went to HS pretty close to where I live.
  14. We've talked a lot about a possible change in effectiveness of starters due to the substance crackdown, but not about the relievers.
  15. I'm a bit slow today. It took me a minute to figure out why the fuck Jace Fry would be untouchable.
  16. Yeah, with analytics being as advanced as they are, teams ought to be able to calculate how much they improve today's win probability by using one of their best relievers, and also how much the decrease tomorrow's win probability by not having him available.
  17. Bullpen logged a lot of innings last two days and no off day tomorrow so Rays may be calling this one a lost cause and having Yarbrough just eat it today.
  18. Having the 2nd fewest HR does not necessarily mean homering in the second fewest number of games.
  19. Once the Tampa/Houston week is over, there is a long stretch against bad teams and Vaughn should play every day to try to get up to speed.
