QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:44 AM) Because he's cocky and arrogant while losing. If we finish over .500 the country is going to view it as the Marlins getting a steal. They get a WS winning manager whose best years are ahead of him as he's still very young. And the Sox wouldn't extend him? Crazy. We could still have a s*** September and all will look fine in canning Ozzie. But Sox potentially could be mocked over this one if we have a good month.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:38 AM) I can't think of a single solitary poster on this board that said keeping Viciedo in the minors was the correct thing to do. Names or you're hallucinating. Edit: greg and elrockin don't count. I always wanted them to call up Viciedo. I wanted him up that series before the all-star break. Really wanted him up before the NY/Boston fiascos. I did say I knew they wouldn't bring him up cause Oz loves Juan and because of Dunn there was nowhere to put Dayan. I even suggested Dayan return to third (when Morel was sucking eggs) and got crucified for that. But I always wanted him up. --anybody else noticed Oz hasn't played Omar lately. Thank god. There's gonna be a meltdown on here cause Dunn figures to be back in the lineup soon and AJ too. The new-guy mojo may be ending soon. And when CQ comes back either no Tank or DeAza. There still are a lotta issues. I truly think we are not in the race after this weekend vs. Detroit. Too many issues. p.s. I loved when Minnie threw that ground ball into the outfield to score the runs to tie it. That was awesome. Great to beat Minnie 5 in a row.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:00 AM) You know what sucks about this all? Today should have been a good day for the Sox organization with them making up ground while getting contributions from young guys as well as Buehrle pitching a gem. Instead, Ozzie's posse decide today would be a good day to complain in the media about how all of this, and today was a real crappy day for Sox fans. You can no longer use the "he's trying to take the negative attention off of the players" BS excuse. Cmon. It's not like they are making up a ton of ground where it's some reason for celebration. This is big business and I applaud Ozzie for answering questions honestly. How can you not love this guy with this quote: "And I am a good manager, even if people don’t think I am. Cocky and arrogant, but there are worse guys out there than me.” He is awesome. Sign him up. Move KW upstairs or whatever. Promote Hahn.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) Easy. Didn't Ozzie tell you he had balls? All he has to do is show Dunn the stat sheet where it says Dunn .163 and show Rios the same sheet. It will say Rios .212 and also note Alex doesn't seem very interested in playing , and when he played them everyday, he still was hitting them 4th or 5th. You'll never admit it, but Ozzie has had a bad year with the line up card. Cmon. The new manager will have Dunn batting third or fourth to open next season and Rios starting in center. Unless the GM figures a way to dump them both or convince Jerry it'd be wise to start over with the new GM/manager and just release them.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) I guess it wil all even out and maybe clean out during the off season. The only caveat I would have is to be careful what you wish for. Exactly. Chances are Ozzie will be a far better manager than whomever replaces him. I think it's too late however, for Oz or KW to save their jobs. They both will go or it will look like Jerry is favoring one over the other.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Go back and read the thread I started a month ago about the 10 games that got away. That was a good post. I challenge you to do it for any team in baseball. You'll find way more than 10 you can blame on the skipper.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) HaHaha yea that is hilarious to intentionally put out bad lineups to sabotage a team. So funny. And Ozzie will be so loved in Florida for whatever reason you may decide that makes no sens. HaHaHa, LOLZ, HaHaHa. *thumb points to greg775* Love this guy. So funny I think everything about the KW/Oz hatred of each other is hilarious. Jerry lets it go on, so ultimately Jerry deserves to be hit in the pocketbook and the ridicule. Yes it's funny Ozzie is batting Rios fourth for personal reasons. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) Juan Uribe begs to differ.... There have been some good ones. I'm sure Ken Berry and Chet Lemon made some good ones too. But Wise's?? Pretty damn good. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) If ozzie was a good manager that would make sense, however he is not. He consistently gets decent talent and under achieves. He also is a terrible in game manager and makes puzzingly bad lineups. The terrible in game manager thing puzzles me. Every manager in baseball is a terrible in-game manager because there are so many decisions you can second guess. This year, Gardy is a bum. Is he a terrible manager? Our new manager is gonna get roasted on here next year as well. Batting Rios fourth is his fight with KW continuing. That is obvious. They both are gonna be shown the door. I'd love to see everybody's opinion on here. I wonder how many still like Ozzie. In a poll I would say. Keep Ozzie?- Yes. Keep KW - No.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) Do you know how hard it is to take 3 of 4 from any team? Just assuming Detroit will take 3 of 4 is silliness. They might well do so, but seriously, GMAFB. Check KC's record in four game road series. They drop 4 and 3 like nothing. This is a bad baseball team playing a team that wants to win a division and is at home.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Somehow I doubt he was acquired to be our cleanup hitter. EDIT: And again, for the thousandth time, Kenny told Ozzie to play his best players and to ignore their salaries. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) This is when Ozzie kept trying to run DeWayne Wise out there as his CF. Isn't Wise's picture on the outfield wall where he made the best catch in Sox history? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) GMAFB. Do you know how bad KC's starting pitching is? Do you know how bad KC is?

That was a great column. I like these comments by Oz: “Let’s get this straight: I’m the face of the franchise,’’ Guillen said. “People can say what they want. There’s a lot of blame going around out there, but I blame myself because I guess I’m the one with the balls around here. It’s not because I’m cocky or an arrogant guy, but I can leave Chicago with my head up. That’s what’s important to me. “Jerry is the one that has to decide on if [Kenny and I] can make it work. We’re doing it, getting by. We’re not best friends, but we make due. We’re professional. We do what’s best for the ballclub. Our job is more important than our friendship. “I do know I’m trying to win games, period.’’ I still don't see how Ozzie can get the boot considering this team's average record with this s***-ass lineup. You don't fire a manager who has a WS title to his credit and an average record this year. Get rid of Kenny; keep Ozzie. What's so difficult about that? Ozzie is right. He is the face of the franchise. I'd say odds of both taking the fall though are 90/10. Like the article said, this is costing Jerry money now.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:33 PM) KC has and can win games. And they enjoy being spoilers. Hard to win more than one of the four-game series in Detroit. If I knew Tank, DeAza and Flowers would keep playing I'd be more hopeful. I expect Dunn back soon. And he's still batting Rios fourth. I agree with the post about enjoying the movie as it plays out, but I think now that we're two over .500 it's time to lose 4 in a row and be two under again.
-
Don't forget, Detroit is playing KC. We have to win just to stay five back. I agree with Rowand's post. It's way too late, but I'll still watch as many games as I can as the Oz/KW era ends.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) MDGonzales Mark Gonzales Sox's lineup: Pierre - LF Ramirez - SS Konerko - 1B Rios - CF Viciedo - DH De Aza - RF Flowers - C Morel - 3B Beckham - 2B Stewart - P LOL at the Rios thing. Ozzie going out in a blaze of Ozzie saying FU to everybody. He has to get the attention now cause once he's in Florida nobody will care the rest of his career. He's gonna be there a long time. Very surprised he's still playing Tank and DeAza and Flowers. Flowers' time is about up with AJ to return soon. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:19 AM) We'll see. Hey, I'm excited. Nobody loves young talent more than I do. I just hope we do our due diligence and give these guys every opportunity to show what they can do. Rios, Dunn and AJ can all kiss my ass. That's sunk cost no matter how you slice it. Little harsh on AJ. He's had a very good year. It's not his fault if he can't throw anymore. Offense - good this year. Defense and handling of pitchers - Good except for throwing which is horrific. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 04:36 AM) I obviously don't have a trained eye. But you can look at Dayan's skillset and be confident that he has a better chance to succeed long-term than somebody like De Aza or Flowers. The guy has done nothing but rake for a year and a half now and his BB rate has improved dramatically. Score one for KW and Co., and you know that means something coming for me, for identifying and signing this guy. Now we've already dropped the ball as far as waiting this long (and he'd still be in the minors had CQ not gotten hurt) to call him up. He should be in the lineup EVERY game from here on out. I'm not arguing with u, but I think DeAza equally should be in the lineup every game from here on out. The Sox may be too far out of it to win the division, but it'd be nice to get DeAza a full month worth of at bats. And Flowers a ton of at bats too. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 05:10 AM) I'm still not sold on De Aza over the duration of a full season. Flowers, to me, is still below average defensively and that K-rate is still way too high for him to sustain any kinda offensive consistency. But he has legitimate power and he can talk a walk. Dayan is just real. Not sure how well his glove will play. But offensively, he's a juggernaut. See what a little youth infusion can do? Everybody is so scared of young prospects. "Most prospects fail." Well no s***! There's like 4 billion minor leaguers at a time in any given year and, of course, a majority of them will fail. The truly elite organizations can identify and hit on the ones who don't fail. Yeah but how do we know Dayan can last a year? You could say that about anybody who is unproven. If DeAza hits big slump, then Lilly can sub for him a few games. Or even Rios. I think DeAza has proven he deserves a chance. Problem is Rios is blocking him for one reason - salary. Sucks. I think Rios' presence will still cost the Sox the rest of this year. Oz will play him and that ain't good. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 04:52 AM) This is the most active and excited the board has been in weeks. People are tuning in now just to see the young kids. Yet most were/are scared s***less at a possible 'rebuild' and conjure up a multitude of excuses on why a 'rebuild' is inedible. We'd never have to go the route of the Pirates/Royals due to market and MUCH more payroll flexibility. This is what I've been preaching all along. We don't need a Baseball America all-star team. But this franchise will never, and it's been proven, be consistent year-in, year-out until they start to grasp the importance of a strong minor league system. Well DeAza and Flowers have passed the eye test for me. I don't know what the numbers say, but wow. DeAza is the anti Rios in terms of hustle. His body reminds me of the elder Rock Raines, only he can run whereas the old Rock was like Juan and lost the ability to steal. And of course everybody with a brain loves the look of Dayan. And of course Sale and Sergio are great young guns on the mound. Sergio looks like he's in the first year of an elite closer's role. So at least two more great seasons from him, maybe before his arm falls off? --And reason for excitement tonight has to be Alexei scoring on the infield hit from second. Finally the Sox with a hustle play. Amazing. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 04:46 AM) I was going to say very early in the game thread before the game started that the Sox won't be below .500 for the rest of the year but I forgot . So I'm saying it now. If the Sox somehow got hot and did something of honor ... there'd be a select few on the board that would deserve status befitting a king. So far I ain't close to believing, but there are a few on here that never have wavered. -

QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:38 AM) I'm curious, and please don't misinterpret my motive here. I'm not trying to say "I told you so", as it's much too early to draw any conclusions. However, for those of you who were so certain that de Aza was nothing more than a "AAAA" player, or a "4TH outfielder", have you changed your minds about his ability to play and contribute, on a regular basis, at the Big League level? I personally have always liked his skill set. He's a good outfielder, with speed and a good arm. He hustles, has some pop and just plays the game the way that I like to see it played. He has really been sensational vs. RHP, the last two seasons at AAA, and seems to be able to translate that skill to the Majors. Next season, I'd like to see a Lillibridge/de Aza platoon in Left, if either Quentin or Rios is gone. If the Sox could only unload that Rios contract, I'd love an outfield of Viciedo in Left, a platoon of de Aza and Lillibridge in Center, and Quentin in Right. What do you guys see in de Aza, and what do you think of the platoon idea? QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 03:46 AM) 20 quality starts out of 26 for Buehrle. Pay that man. 1.) Why platoon DeAza? He should play every day next year. Rios should be our fourth outfielder. Dayan/DeAza/CQ. Rios and Lilly spot duty. 2.) Is he arguably the best starting pitcher in Sox history? Open the vault for him. -
Ozzie's quotes on Dunn were very gracious ... again.
