QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 08:21 PM) "A lot of loot" from Florida? You don't think he'll make more than he did here?

The Return of Adam Dunn, 9/05. 12:05
greg775 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Sox team speed reeks always. Wonder if the new regime will get speedier. Wouldn't be so noticeable if we returned to bashing a ton of home runs. Only Lilly and Paulie and CQ have that home run stroke. -
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) Yeah that was Ozzie laughing in the dugout last night. LAUGHING. When asked on air if he would be laughing, Bobby Valentine said "I don't think I could force a smile right now..." What's wrong with laughing at these losers? He has it made. Will get a 4-5 year deal in Florida for a lot of loot. Somebody else can coach these plodding losers.

And that, my friends, is a White Sox season

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 07:45 AM) Why MUST the White Sox have Carlos Quentin in the outfield? Why can't the outfield be De Aza, Rios and Viciedo? I thought there were plenty of people who supported trading Quentin on this site? Cause Rios stinks and we can't win squat with him IMO. He's also a cancer on the team because of his laziness. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 06:30 AM) If Ozzie told the media, "We will sweep and win the division", what would have changed? Absolutely f***ing nothing. There are way better reasons to complain about Ozzie. Then people would have said he fired up Detroit. Face it, many on the board won't be happy til we get a cliche spouter. You know: We take it one game at a time, we will try our hardest to beat a darn good Detroit team. Amazing to me but whatever.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 07:10 AM) Reality totally DOES work that way, greg. When you care about winning, you simply don't put a guy who's hitting barely over a buck in games day in and day out because of money. I realize in your mind this makes no sense... but it is entirely sensible. No reason not to blame the pitcher for giving up a big hit/out... but you appear to be as blind and ignorant as Ozzie is when it comes to pitching matchups; they matter a gigantic amount. When said hitter is hitting .320 against righties and .145 against lefties and Ozzie still plays the "matchup" game and puts a righty in to face the hitter... you apparently think Ozzie did nothing wrong. But what about the times it works when he leaves Crain in too long and Crain gets the lefty out? Nobody ever says squat when it works. And it does work.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 03:14 AM) The Sox have not really had a laugher all year even s*** teams win 14-2 sometimes but not this team. Another sign of how dysfunctional the team has been for a while now. Although to be fair, didn't we have a laugher recently when some were fooled into thinking we were contenders? Didn't the Sox pound the Twins or somebody 8-1 or 10-0 or something?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 03:13 AM) Pictured: The White Sox front office...Razor Shines not allowed. I thought that was the only troubling scene in one of the greatest movies of all time, Animal House. I didn't like the guys showing all that skin, etc. Creeped me out.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 03:08 AM) From the way it looks they are more than welcome to start playing the game thats on now. Two blowout losses in one day should make for some wild theatrics. Will Jerry fire Oz after Game Two? I wonder if he starts Omar in both games. He usually brings back Omar when the team is at its lowest points.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 03:01 AM) Ryne Sandburg I'd give Sandberg a shot as well. Why is Dave Martinez such a better choice? Sandberg is one of the dullest quotes in baseball. Most people on this board will love the fact he never says anything of note.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:56 AM) I'm sure they wouldn't but that comment deserves 0% blame for the sweep. I'm sure in the locker room he said something completely different. I know Ozzie has done a s*** job this season, deserves to be gone but I'm amazed by how upset people get about joke BS comments to the media. What do you want him to say? Maybe he's trying to keep it loose. You don't know what he said in the closed clubhouse. Oz detractors use everything and anything to back their point. Some people said recently he throws his players under the bus. Yeah, right. He hasn't said a bad thing about Dunn all year. He hasn't even ripped Rios publicly. He didn't say a peep about Matt Thornton's lousiness in April and he never threw Juan under the bus for botching a couple fly balls in April.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:41 AM) I think it's safe to say that the other 29 managers in MLB wouldn't say "I hope we don't get swept" just before an important series. He says what he wants to say. What he says had no effect on this series. Detroit is having a decent to good season. The Sox were not going to turn it on and have one stellar month. This was scripted to be the series where the Sox were buried. The 5-game win streak was our longest of the year. Big deal. Ozzie is honest. He's watched this crap team all year. What did you want him to say? I know, you wanted him to be Ned Yost and say we have to take it one game at a time. I'm sure our next manager will return to the cliches. There's really only a couple managers like this: Ozzie, Lou and Lasorda and 2 of the 3 are retired. Our next skipper will be good n dull.

How did the Sox draw this year? I know attendance was lacking some, but did the Sox still draw pretty well?
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:37 AM) This is like watching the KC Royals playing from 05-09. Ya DBAH0 is not gonna like his new favorite player getting hammered like this. Or this year. Even with the infusion of young talent, the Royals lose, lose, lose every series except once in a while they take one from the Sox. Even the Sox have won the last 2 vs. KC I think.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:35 AM) Walker as a coach has changed ALL our good prospects hitting stances and every one is worse since they met him. Walker has had a major negative impact on the Sox offense. Is that true or your perception?

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:33 AM) At this point, everyone should just take joy in their losses. Let it be a fun mixture of bad baseball, terrible coaching, and hopefully more in-fighting between Williams and the coaches! Yeah, this is the first year I agree with you guys that losing is fine the last month. These players have been so s***ty all season I would just as soon have them drop 20 more games. Although guys like DeAza seem to play awfully hard. Even Juan hustles his ass off. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:31 AM) Do not know WTF you are watching but there is a major problem with the coaching staff. I'm just saying it's possible Ozzie is right about the impact of coaches. Everybody always assumes he's wrong about everything. How do u know if he is right or not? Most veterans I would suspect do not listen to coaches.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:26 AM) OG before the game tonight wants ALL coaches back. With the recent flap over a shouting match between hitting coach Greg Walker and GM Ken Williams, Guillen was asked if he were offered an extension by Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf only if he would give up some of his coaches, what would he do? "I'd say, 'Wow, we got to talk about it,' because I feel comfortable with our coaching staff," Guillen said. "Coaches don't win games. They help players, but they don't win games. ... I got the greatest coaches for me. I've got very good coaches." CAN I F'N PUKE! Did you play in the major leagues? How do you know coaches win games? U think for a minute Ozzie might be right about that?
-
QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:21 AM) Why would we perceive that as a middle finger? The only thing I would see as a middle finger is keeping ozzie. I was thinking Cora would just be a clone of Ozzie.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 02:20 AM) Nice effort by our three "leaders" tonight in Buehrle, Konerko and AJ. Konerko might as well swing out of his ass and try to get to 400 homers by the end of the year. I love and worship Mark, but doesn't he have 4-5 nights like this per season where he gets rocked pretty good? Those nights are rare, but no fun when they occur.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) I just read here that Dunn has 6 (count 'em, 6) RBI's since the All Star Break. I about puked and busted out laughing at the same time. Is this really true?!!?!?! Now that we're out of it, u think he'll start playing regularly again? He might as well try to find his swing for next year. Would be very nice, however, to get Dayan, DeAza and Flowers a ton of at bats somehow.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) It's all just sad. Soon it will be cold and dark and most of us will be missing baseball. then we'll start looking forward to next season -- until we remember we're doomed with Dunn and Rios. For three more years. After this season I don't think I will be counting the days til spring training like I normally do. I've been conditioned to being a fan of a team that plays very bad, slow, uninspired baseball and loses games in all sorts of miserable ways. Gonna have to get conditioned back to thinking we have a shot. Even though we were within five games a few times this was the first season in a long time we've been out of it all year, so hopefully the Sox got that out of their system and next season we can at least contend. -
Do you guys think Jerry will throw a middle finger to the fans and name Joey Cora? It would make sense.
-
Now the Sox stink on the road, too. What a s***ty season. What a buttkicking in Detroit this weekend. Good luck selling season tickets this winter, White Sox.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Good decisions managers make are in no way important and never determine whether a game is won or lost. Is that correct, greg? QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) I don't read every post but while I've seen you make posts to the effect that Ozzie probably does deserve to be fired, I've never, not once seen you criticize any of Ozzie's decisions that he's made... ever. So I can hardly fault anyone for thinking the things they do. 1.) I think managers can influence the result of a game on given days. 2.) I think Ozzie made a mistake in pinch hitting Dunn the other day. I think he's made mistakes certain times he's made guys bunt when he knows darn well our guys are s***ty bunters and there's a good chance the bunter will f*** up. So on many occasions where the game threads have imploded over the bunt, I do agree Oz has f***ed up on that more than once. (where I get in trouble with most on the board) 3.) I can't get on Ozzie too much for playing Dunn and Rios too much because whether right or wrong, I am of the firm opinion that even though Kenny once said he had the right to play who he wanted, REALITY doesn't work that way and the zillionaires with 3-4 years left on a deal do play. Do I prefer him bat Dunn seventh or eighth? Yes but I can understand why he hasn't. 4.) And 4, I don't get worked up about his choice of relief pitchers like some of you do so I don't blame him when somebody like Crain gives up a bomb and you guys wanted Matt or something like that. I am a personnel guy and expect the pitchers to get the guys out. Generally if Oz makes the wrong choice of a reliever, I tend to blame the guy with the ball in his hand way more than Oz.
