QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) I'm down with LaRussa/McEwing. Or Dave Martinez. Or hire somebody from Scioscia's staff. Madden, Roenicke and Black have all done fairly well. Is there any reason to believe Tony wants to make Chicago his final stop? For the life of me I can't see why he'd want to manage an inferior team (St. Louis organization is way better than ours) just because he likes Jerry. He may like Jerry, but why the f*** would that matter? There's no reason to believe St. Louis wants to run him out of town so why would he want to flee to the South Side?

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Pierre, lf Ramirez, ss Konerko, 1b Pierzynski, c Viciedo, dh Rios, cf De Aza, rf Morel, 3b Beckham, 3b Now that I see AJ playing and what that means, we almost have to trade him this offseason if we expect Flowers to be the main catcher. I'd be OK with that. Don't you think some team would take AJ in the NL? He's not done yet it appears. It's gonna be buzzkill having Flowers be the backup to AJP. Will any team pay his contract next year? Scary if the answer is no, because it'll suck having Flowers play Castro-like amounts.

Wasn't Trey Hillman a hot, can't miss prospect before KC hired him? Not trying to flame, but even if KC hadn't hired him, wasn't he the next great thing? Those 4 names of guys I've never heard of are dangerous like Trey-dangerous.. When Oz is shown the door ... I want either an old, "name" manager or I want Sandberg. Why hire some unknown for a high (or at least competitive) payroll organization like the White Sox??

What do you rebuild lovers mean by a rebuild? I assume you like Flowers, DeAza and Tank. OK those are 3 guys right there that should help a retooling rather than big rebuild. For that to happen, though we have to somehow dump Rios or just release him. Or tell him he's our 4th outfielder period. I can live with trying Dunn again next year. I assume you rebuild lovers think Lexi and Beckham are worth keeping and Paulie has another year left on his deal or 2 years I think and you all want him to stay I'd assume. I'd assume you think Morel is worth trying next year. We already have him. That leaves the pitching. Do you want a complete rebuild of the staff?? If so, why? If financial constraints are so bad, I guess I could see making one trade or two, but why a total rebuild in light of what I have just said?? Do you want to rebuild the bullpen? The entire starting rotation? We still could use more speed even with DeAza, so maybe dump Becks for some faster guy?? I don't get the rebuild lovers. Explain por favor what you want?? Does rebuilding mean trading CQ for a couple young pitchers or something? Or trading Becks? I can understand that. You can dump one of either Floyd/Danks and trade one of either CQ or Becks without it being a TOTAL 15 year Royals like rebuild can't u? -

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) LOL, these silly posts slay me. No logic whatsoever. No, bro... it's NOT "all" Ozzie's fault... but a LOT of it is. You people that use desperate cop-outs as opposed to logic to defend the man in question kill any chance at having any credibility as a poster in doing so. It's laughable to think Dave Martinez is going to please the people on this board. Wait til his in-game decisions fail. Players win games. Managers like Ozzie normally are perfect cause they are humorous sideshows and take the pressure off the players. As far as decisions, no f***ing way Dave Martinez is some big upgrade over Ozzie who has a ton of experience now. If Oz wins another WS in Florida he's a future Hall of Famer. Deal with that, haters.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) Always remmeber there is next year. Ozzie sticks up for himself and there is nothing wrong with that and we have good players who are having bad years. Do some tweaking and some look at themselves in the mirror and make the needed changes this off season and 2012 can be a fun time for sure. Cause this year was no so much Team does need to tweak. The reason Ozzie or KW (at least one of the two) has to go is the team has had a really rotten full season and a half. I know some of you say it's been horrible longer than that. But the team has lost in so many ridiculous ways (just like yesterday) the past season and a half and had so many "bad baseball" moments that if there are no changes, what if it's just the same story again to start next season?? What if the Sox start dropping series after series in April and May again and keep losing all these walkoff games, etc? What if the team gets off to a bad start at home again? It'll be a runaway train of negativity again. Without Kenny (my preference) or Ozzie or both (and the departure of at least one of Rios/Dunn) at least there will be a new scenario. Maybe the bad karma of these ridiculous losses and losing streaks and inability to get hot as a team will end. Maybe the new hitting coach will lend some optimism. i would be all for a couple creative trades, tweaking not rebuilding under a new GM. If both Oz and KW have to go, that's fine, too as long as Bell, Cora and LaRussa are not the new managers.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) The Blue Jays and Orioles have been rebuilding for 15 years. Excellent point. Guys, this rebuilding stuff is a horrible myth. You retool with smart baseball people in charge. For instance you CQ haters are crazy. The outfield MUST be Viciedo, DeAza and CQ out there. That means SOMEHOW you dump Rios. Even if you have to pay the whole contract. We will keep Dunn and PRAY he can hit 30 homers somehow, but to POSSIBLY contend, that should be our outfield. That is not a total rebuild. Pieces are there. Then we got Morel, Lexi, Becks and Paulie in the infield. NOT BAD if the new hitting coach can help Morel, Lexi and Becks some. Yes Lexi needs some help, too. Catcher: AJ and Flowers is OK, though AJ better agree to a reduced load. Flowers is ready. That could be a problem. Trade one of Danks/Floyd (is Danks a free agent) and trade Beckham if you have to. You can always find a second baseman somewhere. Our strengths with CQ and Dayan will be outfield and infield and hopefully starting pitching. Keep as many proven pitchers as you can. Try to get more reliable bullpen guys. A total rebuild though is dumb. Do you want to dump the entire pitching staff for some reason? You do what the Yankees do. Use free agency baby. Try to catch lightning in a bottle. Total rebuilding is idiotic. It may take 15 years. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) Quentin-De Aza and Viciedo in the OF and take your pick for the 4th. Lilibridge can play back up OF'er and infielder And what is the new manager going to do with Rios? If he's on the roster, he'll start.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) I am sorry but no Sox game that I can watch is "worthless" , I have always felt that going back to 50 years of being a Sox fan. But, I understand frustration too Man you are a great fan. Not at all freaked out by this season. Good for u. I respect that. Are you the type of fan that will be buried with some Sox stuff next to you in about 50 years when u die?

What a crappy Sunday night game. If announcers were smart they'd delve deeply into the Sox's dysfunction on the one side. On the other side talk about Detroit's postseason chances. Anybody notice how Austin Jackson keeps kicking our ass?

I'd play Dunn every day the rest of the way and have promotions like, "See if Dunn's batting average is lower than his final strike out total. Things like that. Play Omar every day (kidding, I may be watching most of these games still). But I would play Dunn for comedy sake. It's kind of neat to watch him whiff, one time looking, one time taking, almost all times having no clue against a simple fastball. -

Except for the first week it's been the most utterly depressing and disgusting season in a long time. As nice as it would have been to steal the division we don't deserve postseason ball this year. As Walker said in that story, "it's been a long year for everybody." Team doesn't deserve the postseason. Glad it's over. Hope the Bears have a good year and the Hawks too. I'll still follow every game but this group of stiffs didn't deserve the postseason. I just hope it's not LaRussa for next year. Anybody but LaRussa, Bell and Cora. And please fire KW as well as Oz. If one goes both should go. -
I cannot believe I have just read this sentence. To get this straight: You blame Ozzie and his staff for those two nonperforming zillionaires? Ozzie gets the blame for Mr. Whiff and arguably the laziest player in baseball?

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 04:10 AM) People like you apparently don't realize there are two concepts called "facts" and "logic." If you don't grasp either of those then frankly having a "differing opinion" doesn't make you credible. Here's a FACT that some people can't accept (mainly because this country beats this "everyone's opinion counts" crap into everyone's heads): Some people's opinions are simply WRONG; not valid and, consequently, not worth being taken seriously. I also love how you (like most other people that are stubborn about Ozzie) switch it to "hold the players accountable." So why is it that when people who want to defend the manager present their case, it always seems to revolve around the idea that the players are the only ones accountable and the management should get off scot-free? Apparently to people like yourself, NOTHING management ever does can be wrong or a fireable offense; only the players' faults/shortcomings make any negative impact on a team. That's purely and simply FOOLISH. I don't hold Ozzie accountable for players playing bad; I hold Ozzie accountable for consistently putting guys in the lineup who aren't hitting and putting them in HIGH SPOTS. Dunn hitting behind Konerko at this point in the season is beyond stupid. I hold Ozzie accountable for the consistently (BLATANTLY) ignorant things he does that potentially cost us wins. I don't hold KW accountable for the players playing bad; I hold KW accountable for depleting our farm system to virtually nothing while emptying a truckload of cash to give to guys like Rios (Dunn is admittedly not his fault at all) who obviously had gone south and was staying there. Going into this season looking at our big league team and farm system I thought to myself, "God DAMN I hope no one major gets sidelined and put on the DL or we are SCREWED. It's absolutely asinine that the people who STILL defend Ozzie can't see how OBVIOUSLY clueless the guy is at managing a ballclub and somehow think the players are the ONLY ones who are at fault for anything... EVER. Quite frankly if you think this way and take this position then you DESERVE to be insulted. Wow. I love when people lose it and freak out on here. You are wrong BTW. We Ozzie lovers also think he's made mistakes. This Ozzie lover will not be surprised nor will I cry or be sad when he gets the boot. I also will wish our new manager well. But I also recognize why he is playing the high paid guys and why he's batting them so high. Some people act like we are crazy. Well I tell u to get used to seeing Adam batting fourth next year no matter who our skipper is. And Rios fifth.

I think so. In listening to it from far away, I thought it was annoying, loud, uncomfortable radio. Why didn't the host just start asking Cowley the tough questions instead of fighting with him right off the bat? There actually was a tone of civility after the commercial break when he finally asked Cowley a few questions. Granted Cowley went nuts right off the bat but what ever happened to the interviewer asking questions instead of the two yelling at each other??
-
Yep, yep. This is exactly right and exactly what is going to happen. Both are gone. I think Oz will do fine with Florida's owner. Remember, in his new gig there will be very little coverage of baseball at least compared to Chicago. Nobody's going to even give Ozzie a forum to go off. There won't be anything to go off about. If Fla is good the team is good; if it's bad, so what? The media won't care. He'll be calm and it'll be very calm at the Cell if it's not LaRussa. LaRussa I'm sure will have some run ins with the media here who try to call him on why the team isn't improved and why he, like oz, is still playing Dunn, etc.

9/2 - Sox @ DET; Danks vs. Ver-Zeus-Der
greg775 replied to witesoxfan's topic in 2011 Season in Review
We lose one more game and Oz will probably start playing Omar again in place of Morel as Omar has his final month in the big leagues. Do even the biggest optimists believe the Sox season officially ended tonight? All Detroit had to do was avoid a sweep with the best scenario now the Sox gaining one game on Det while the Tigers knocked three of the six vs. Chicago off the schedule. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:28 AM) Per MLBTradeRumors Heyman says Chairman Reinsdorf wants to keep both Guillen and Williams "at this point." After this sweep, he may change his mind. This could be very embarrassing weekend.

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:53 AM) Something tells me you're get your wish.... Hard to cheer to the Sox on the victory when I want the manager and gm canned. Losing all 3 would (will) make it much easier for Jerry to begin finalizing plans to boot the both of them. The "feud" can't go on any longer. KW and Oz buried themselves and this team is destined to finish just below .500 IMO. -

Well, Detroit does what "good" teams do at home when it's time to put away its rival. Avoid silly talk of a sweep by kicking the s*** out of the pursuer in Game One of the series. I assume this is a three-game series. So the most Detroit can lose is a game on the Sox if somehow we sweep the next two. Is the mood of this board finally that unequivocally it's Ova? -
I just wasted 20 minutes listening to that interview. The radio host could have handled that a lot better where we would have uh, actually gotten a lot of good takes from the both of them and information. Instead if you had to summarize, Cowley said he's not part of the story, he's "ahead of the story" and the radio host disagrees. Stupid radio. Info gleaned: Ozzie does desperately want Jerry to pick between the two. IMO how that will end: Both get the boot. There is one way only KW gets the boot. Cowley alleges Jerry told him "he's not a perfect human being." If Jerry does believe KW is kind of a snake, then maybe he keeps Oz to work with Hahn. I still say both are gone. Radio interview grade D. Host's approach: F. Cowley's anger: F.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) Kind of the same with you. If I don't agree with your thoughts, I'm wrong or have no common sense. I think I'd rather argue with a brick wall, at least I wouldn't have to listen to insults and bullcrap if I have a differing opinion. Great post. The bottom line is some people can't handle people who don't agree with them. That's fine with me. Ptatc had a good take on Oz IMO. Yes Ozzie is going to win big the rest of his career. Unfortunately it appears it won't be with the Sox. Dave Martinez lovers will find plenty to criticize once we are 30 or so games into the season. LaRussa ... we all know there will be plenty to criticize there. My guess is when you match up Ozzie with whomever replaces him ... Ozzie will have the better resume and the better future.
