  1. Why can't we f***ing hit the ball at home? The Twins have a s***ty team and this game is in serious doubt with us allegedly in the 'race' and Detroit losing!
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) No, acutally that's what you're trying to defend him with...when you say that it's not his fault when guys on his team bust apart and underperform. My argument is that managers can certainly matter...and based on this year's performance, Ozzie Guillen receives a mark that is well below average, nearly failing. Furthermore, when you couple that failing grade to 2 below average performances in the last 2 years and 4 in the last 5, that record of futility is the single best reason to replace him. That's the only fair way to evaluate Ozzie GUillen's performance on the whole. Wins and losses. And by that metric, Ozzie Guillen is failing to do the job he is paid to do. The funny thing is IF the White Sox somehow got hot and finished 10 over .500 the country would laugh its ass off that Sox fans want to get rid of this WS champion manager. I'm not saying this team is capable of getting hot, but I would laugh my ass off at the capper to this s*** season if we finish 10-12 over .500 and Ozzie gets shown the door. Hilarious. p.s. I still think we finish two under but I'm just saying.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) And we have seen him run Dunn and Rios out there anyway, no matter who is hot behind them or available. I don't understand how people can argue this Rios/Dunn stuff? My god. Do you know how much money they make?? How many years are left on their deals? They play. I hate it as well but that's baseball. You really think our new manager next year is going to sit Rios and Dunn if they get off to s***ty starts? They will play.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 06:41 PM) looking at the pitching matchups this has Chicago White Sox sweep written all over it. Hope Sox fans get off their asses and show up to support this team (even if they don't support Kenny or Jerry or Ozzie or Walker or Oney). Ginger you realize we've had favorable pitching matchups on paper a lot at home this season and we usually lose. Or lose more than we win. And as far as supporting this team, spare me. Fans have done enough and not been rewarded at all. If they want to go watch baseball they should go. At least DeAza, Flowers and Viciedo are worth watching. They are hungry. Rios batting fourth is Ozzie being Ozzie. Has the media even addressed this yet with Ozzie or Rios? It'd make an interesting side story at least. Rios hitting fourth in a season in which he's been the worst centerfielder in baseball.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) Still in. Great weekend in Seattle, was there and had a blast. Got busted by AJ when I was bird-dogging his wife while walking around Pikes market (she wears a sundress very well). My wife also busted me (still worth it). Viciedo is exciting and there's a month left so what the hell, I'm choosing optimism. Nothing's changed. No reason to believe this team can catch Detroit or even finish within eight games of the top. I think we'll finish a couple games below .500.
  6. Ozzie haters who say he throws players under the bus (which is absurd) must watch the replay of Flowers and Dayan's homers today. He hits Viciedo on the shoulder and also greets Flowers after the bombs. It's unfair to say he doesn't like the young players. Watch the dugout greeting after the bombs. I am gonna miss Ozzeroo.
  7. Don't make it sound like Ozzie could just bench Dunn. Dunn is gonna be batting fourth for 4 seasons. And Rios as well. These guys will be playing because of their salaries. I don't care that KW had one quote about Oz not being forced to play anybody. You DO play those guys because of their salaries. KW kind of threw Oz under the bus with that quote. You can't bench guys making the kind of jack Dunn and Rios make as we will find out next year again with our new manager. And this board HATED Flowers. I soured on him just reading all the posts about how he was not a real prospect. p.s. You have to wonder if the presence of Dunn would sour any manager candidate on our opening.
  8. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:52 AM) If Ozzie prevented it, it's a sign that the power structure that JR created is f***ed. Personally, I believe that KW felt that he no longer had the ammo to force personnel decisions on Ozzie, with the stink of Dunn and Rios so fresh on his person, knowing that Ozzie could throw this up at him in any public squabble. IMO, KW is guilty of being gutless. Ozzie is guilty of being stupid. That's a great last line. Not a bad take. Should be interesting what the quiet Mr. Reinsdorf will say about this season and the Dayan thing. Also should be interesting how he handles Oz and KW's dual departures.
  9. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:48 AM) Im sure itll be on the score in a little bit. Basically he doesnt give a **** about what we have to say(asked about Viciedo). If he blasted the fans directly ... this could be the one where Jerry fires him immediately. Right? I don't know why in Oz's tenure here he was against change. Most teams make changes to spark the club at the trade deadline or all star break. For some reason he doesn't like that. I can't remember, but did all the teams he played on pretty much stand pat during the season?? That's one part of his makeup I don't understand. Maybe in his later years as a player he was worried the Sox might acquire some SS better than him for the second half or something. I guess in his mind the only place we could have played Viciedo was left because there's 14 million reasons to play Dunn at DH. And Oz loves Juan so he couldn't play Dayan in left. He should blast KW instead of the fans. KW didn't need to acquire Juan in the first place if Dayan was ML ready this season. We coulda put somebody else in left last year, some hack like Milledge or Jones while waiting for Dayan to be ready.
  10. QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) Let's say that the Sox get hot riding Viciedos' hot bat, Detroit cools off a bit, and the Sox finish only 1 or 2 games out of first. I would be soooo ticked off at O.G. & K.W. for letting their personal agendas get in the way of the team. It would be my personal opinion that Ozzie & Kenny should both be fired immediately after the season and should never, ever have a job in baseball again for being selfish enough to destroy a teams season with their egos. Maybe I'm just venting, and I know it's a small sample size, but jeez. I'd be mad at that as well. But madder at all the games we pissed away in April/May, you know the ones when we were losing games in droves with nobody able to stop the runaway 'L' train. Hopefully the new skipper will be able to fire up the troops out of the gate next year.
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:46 AM) He is blasting the people who thought he should have been up here 2 months ago. You know basically the same rant he had when people were questioning him for the Thome decision. I wanna hear it. It should be a wild final month of quotes from Oz as he goes out like a lion. Next year, nobody's gonna care what he has to say managing in sunny, nobody-cares-bout-baseball state of Florida.
  12. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) should i pick up dayan in my fantasy league?? I don't think he'll get enough at bats to do that. We still have Oz being stubborn in his final 4 weeks as mayor of the South Side. Oz isn't going to play him regularly IMO. Dunn n Rios baby. He wants to prove a point that no manager could win with those 2 albatrosses.
  13. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) And a freakin' monster it was. He strikes out a lot but I like Flowers. I vote for dealing AJP to a contender now and going with Flowers/Castro next year with Flowers the regular.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:17 AM) I wasn't around the game thread today, but damn Beckham had some great swings today....that's what we need next year. If Beckham can have a monster year, and Lexi a "career year" to go with another stellar year from Konerko and great year from Dayan, that would help our lineup immensely. Has Flowers shown enough that we should trade AJP? Somebody would take AJ I'd think. He hit well this year.
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:37 AM) Ozzie is going off again....I cant stand this guy Is he blasting Dayan? Great win today. Had we made Viciedo a starter before the allstar break when we should have, we might be in first place. I see Becks got 2 hits. Were they ropes? Gotta dream he can return to the old Becks. And Floyd is now 12-10. Not bad. I know it won't happen, but can the Sox finally have one month of utter dominance? They've sucked almost every month this season. How bout a 25-5 September.
  16. I don't know why we need compensation. He only has one year left on his deal and the Sox don't want him anyway. So why not just let him go to Florida so the Sox can hopefully name Sandberg ASAP. It better not be Cora or Buddy Bell or LaRussa. LaRussa is a crabby old man. Let Tony retire and write books about how baseball should be played LaRussa style.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) And yet, the moment Viciedo comes up, he goes after his critics and drags down his own player. He's actually right, Dayan Viciedo is not the savior and its unfair to paint him as one? But would you go up to his face and tell him "You're not my savior"? If you did, you're one hell of a jackass. If you wouldn't do that, why would you do that in the media? How come this is only a big deal on Soxtalk? The media did not take Oz's joke as you did. This is no big deal. The article I read pointed out how much Oz likes "Tank." p.s. Hey, Kenny, Dayan homers today and knocks in three. Dunn hasn't homered in a month. Yet you wouldn't bring him up. Nice move. (And if Ozzie prevented it, that's another sign Kenny must go; GMs should have personnel power. And Dayan is a god!!)
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) If the Sox finish .500 and the Tigers finish .530, no one will find Ozzie's departure controversial except you. With Rios and Dunn the nation will see .500 as NOT a fireable offense. If he leaves on his own for Florida which he'll do ... fine.
  19. Has the media asked Ozzie's take on Rios batting fourth in some games? I agree it's a big FU as he wraps up his final season on the South Side. If we finish .500, BTW, Ozzie's departure is going to be controversial. Sox aren't going to look good nationally on this one. To go .500 with Dunn and Rios having years like that and Beckham sucking? Some media will say he should be manager of the year. Those are 3 automatic outs. Also there should be a lot of national jokes on saying goodbye to a manager who led Chicago to the rarest of things - a baseball championship. I won't cry the day he leaves but it should be crazy fun.
  20. How can you say this with such authority, like it's true? This seems like an incorrect absolute to me without a lot of proof. He has not blasted Dunn all year. He said he forgot the outs the other day. Big deal. He has really thrown nobody under the bus in this s***ass season. He supported Pierre during the booing without blasting the fans for booing him. s*** he never even really buried Rios publicly for Rios' laziness. He benched him a couple days. Saying he doesn't support his players cause he jokes about the savior, Dayan, is not right. He hasn't ripped Beckham except saying he can't bunt or whatever he said that one day. It's not right to say Ozzie does not support his players. Bulls***.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) Beckham is not in a supervisory role. And nonetheless, still apologized correctly. Ozzie finds it appropriate to run down his own young players to make his points about how he's right and the media is wrong. This is fully inappropriate under any reasonable standard. A supervisor publicly running down the people that he manages will cause a very difficult working environment, and usually that's cause for removal of that supervisor. The Viciedo remark wasn't running down anybody. It was funny.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) RIOS MUST PLAY. Ozzie's final season is a stubborn one. He's flipping off everybody a final few times showing who is the boss as he gears for Florida. Rios batting fourth is a flipoff to the fans. I'm surprised Dunn isn't playing. It's like Ozzie is saying, 'You try to win with these bums like I've been trying to.'
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Unless Danks and Floyd get dealt, I'm not too sure about that happening anymore. I pray Mark goes to the NL to a team that doesn't face us. That is a sad day when he pitches in the Cell for another team. It's amazing we will be willing to pay Adam Dunn and Rios and not Buehrle. Truly amazing. How anybody can buy season tickets to an organization that would do this is beyond me. Do what Milkman does ... only go to games if you can score free tickets. Let's see the Sox explain that one to their fans. Paying Dunn n Rios and letting Mark walk. Wow.
  24. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Beckham is most likely. I say this because I believe that if he had come up with another team he would be a star now. The Sox don't know how to develop position players well. He might figure it out next year on his own. He's a smart kid and a real competitor. Rios next because he clearly has the talent. Does he have the head ? I don't know. Dunn will never play anywhere near the way he did before in the NL. He's not suddenly going to become a student of the game, a workout warrior or an intense competitor. Ain't gonna happen. He's getting old. He never was a good ballplayer. Never had any ability to help his team win games except the dinger. He never cared too much. He was just a huge oaf that could hit it far when he occassionally connected. I wouldn't even call him a baseball player. He's gotten where he has on natural ability alone. Now, as he moves into his mid-thirties and is already rich he isn't going to suddenly start busting ass and learning how to play baseball. Great points on Dunn. He's already ruined one season's lineup pretty much double-handedly with Rios. He could easily ruin another. Just retire, Adam. Show some respect for the game.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) The thing is we got Stewart and Fraisor plus we dumped Teahen, all for a guy who wasn't going to be back next year. That is all kinds of win. Frasor looks like just another guy in any team's bullpen. His pitches scream "hit me" at times.
