Well, as expected, Detroit now is hot and grasping the division. So our season of hanging around .500 hoping we "get hot" is a big rotten fail. Yes I want to sign a guy like Cuddyer to change things up. As much as people hate "grinders" on this board, We could use a Reed Johnson/Cuddyer and I want Cuddyer. So what if overpaid Rios is my sub outfielder. I'd like to simply release him but I realize we can't do that even though by keeping him it poisons our team.

I think it's pretty easy to understand Lilly's power surge. He STILL has a home run mentality in a skinny lil body. He is trying to pop home runs every time he bats and to his credit, he does have a home run swing. Unlike Dunn, he connects once in a while and with that big bat and uppercut swing ... home run. Darndest thing I've ever seen, a skinny guy like that with a better home run stroke than a big guy like Dunn.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) In fact, Flowers is making a pretty strong statement that we were ready to turn over the keys to him in 2012. Escobar could factor in as replacement for Vizquel....although one can't be sure how well he could play 3B or 2B. Lillibridge really needs to get some experience at 3B, IMO. With Viciedo/DeAza/Milledge/Danks all in the mix, as well as Lillibridge for outfield spots...we should be set there. The biggest question mark is whether Lillibridge only plays against LHP in a platoon, or he's an everyday player on the infield somewhere. That would mean a trade or "surrender" of Morel/Ramirez/Beckham though. None of those things are likely if they legitimately want to compete in 2012. They won't be spending their way into contention. Cuddyer already turned down $12 million and 2 years from the Twins. In all likelihood, he'll get $15-18 and 2 from the Yankees or Red Sox. The Yankees are finally tired of Swisher, supposedly. If Reddick's the long-term plan for the Red Sox, he makes much less sense there. Viciedo/DeAza/Milledge/Danks?Lilly? I am assuming you are starting Rios? Milledge is nothing. My outfield of Viciedo/DeAza/Cuddyer with Rios as No. 4 at least on paper gives us a fighting chance at a playoff caliber outfield. As much as I like Juan, if he gets resigned, that's a poor decision.

I wouldn't sign Weaver to the Weaver deal.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Agree, much better athlete than what I thought hed be. Could be a pleasant surprise. As I recall a lot of people on this board were 100 percent knowitalls in saying Flowers was awful. I wish they would give him his props now.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 11:38 PM) Yup. It is really stacked against the Sox. For starters, we're asking a team that hasnt been more than a game over .500 in months to at minimum be 8 over for the last 36 games. And even if that is to somehow happen, we need the Tigers to choke it away against bad teams. That's why it's bulls*** when everybody in May and June insists, "It's still early." All those s***ty games have cost us dearly.
-
I didn't say it would happen. I said some of our nemesis Twins are available and I wouldn't mind Cuddyer. We need some new blood. We're .500 now. Next year with the same personnel, we'll be worse.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 05:26 AM) The same Twins that are currently 4 games out of last place. You sure you want to add players from the Twins? I have to imagine that the Sox are going to have a relatively quiet offseason. A trade here or there, perhaps a resigning here or there, but they aren't going to be uber aggressive as they were this past offseason. Oh, and Alex Rios is not going to be a bench player going into the season. If they were going to do that, they'd be better eating 75% of his salary and trading him elsewhere and going with someone who is more acclimated towards being a bench player. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lillibridge, Viciedo, Rios, and De Aza all getting significant ABs from the outfield next year with Quentin traded and Pierre let go. My idea wouldn't cost us money. Add Cuddyer, trade CQ, CQ will get us something very good. Rios hit a very nice bomb today but he isn't an everyday starter anymore. Not after this season IMO. I like the OF of Viciedo, DeAza, Cuddyer very much. Rios is super sub.
-
Do you guys want to trade CQ, bring up Viciedo and add Cuddyer this offseason? We could have Viciedo in left; DeAza center and Cuddyer in right with albatross Rios (ugh) the utility outfielder. That seems to me like a decent outfield. That potentially has a lot more pop than our current outfield. Slappy Juan is gone (his .285 average deserves praise though) and Rios where he belongs, as reserve OF. Cuddyer will be fired up with new team. I like my proposed outfield and what we can get for CQ. We get a decent starting pitcher for CQ or the fabled prospects to help build up our system. Also would you want to sign Nathan, Capps or Kubel?? We have a chance to add some of the dreaded Twins roster if we want to. I think we should add some Twins.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) Over and under on Done, does he get 3 more HRs the rest of thd season? I say under... Under. When's his last homer? It's been a while.
-
I'd take Lilly as everyday DH over Dunn at this point, but yes, I realize Dunn is going nowhere cause of the fact nobody dares take that contract from us. I'd rather have Lexi at ss and Lilly battle Becks for the starting 2B job.
-
It's amazing, they won't even give us Viciedo when CQ is hurt. It'll just be DeAza (who I love) and Pierre and Rios out there. Good luck going .500 in this next stretch w/out CQ. Detroit will pull a Brewers and have it out of reach by Friday.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) Laughing that his hand-crafted "offense max" line-up pulled off a huge blowout against a pitcher who hadn't lost in his previous 8 starts? Well, at least we finished 4-4 against the defending AL World Series team. You have to take that. 4-4? That's .500 - the mantra of this horrid Sox edition.
-
I see Lillybomb has caught Dunn in homers. Is Lilly a 30 homer guy if he plays as much as Dunn?
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 05:11 AM) Where's the money going to come for this "new guy"? Kenny's not doing a good job of patching up holes in the Titanic. The safer bet is try a new hitting coach. How's a new hitting coach going to turn .235 into .330?
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 02:38 AM) If he can earn more playing time by doing a good job off the bench next year, more power to him and even better for the Sox. But to pencil him in as the starting 2B after what he's shown so far would be a mistake. Get a decent second baseman to start next year and count on Beckham to take Omar's role. He'd be a nice guy to have on the bench backing up the three IF positions. South Side is right. Where does Gordon B now rank of all second basemen offensively? He has to be right near the bottom.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:13 AM) He is playing better since De Aza came up. That hit snapped Rios' 2-for-27 drought. I shudder to think how much he was paid for each of those two hits.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:10 AM) Lillibridge already has that role, probably. Beckham has to start and he has to hit next year. We can't afford to give up on him just yet, or this franchise is in even more serious trouble than it looks. Hopefully a new hitting coach will help him break through. He's 4-for his last 34 and hitting .234 now. His OBP is .296. He's about as bad a hitting second baseman as there is. Has walked only 23 times and only five stolen bases. He does nothing well offensively. Crazy.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:04 AM) I refuse to dislike Adam Dunn like some fans. He could be a real asshole like some athletes are when having poor years but he's willing to talk with the media and seems humble about it. Well you are a good fan. He sickens most of us.
-
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 02:58 AM) Too bad cleveland sucks QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:08 AM) What's the latest on Carlos Quentin? Any updates? Beckham is still terrible. Has slumped from a high of 255 to 234. Flowers has hit a lot better than most expected. Big win...in the sense we couldn't possibly fall 6 GB. Good effort by the pitching staff. (Adam Dunn, please go back to full-time DH, even if your average has "risen" to .169 now playing the field everyday) And yes, Ian Kinsler is one of those guys who always seems to kill us. 1.) Don't blame Cleveland. We suck as well. 2.) XRays negative. Will be re-examined Sunday. Five games, six games, what's the difference? We're NOT in any pennant race caufield.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:05 AM) IF MB is gone nest season and KW is still here, it will be hard to be "all in" next season other than checking out the box score. They would have to win the division or go far in the post season for me to forgive them. Hopefully we'll never hear the 'all in' crap again. All In is an insult to all fans. This team has had a high water mark of one over .500 since the first or second week. Whoopie.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 02:54 AM) The Sox should count on him as being their utility IFer next season after (hopefully) Vizquel is gone. He's still cheap and can play a pretty good defensive 2B, 3B and he can also play some SS. They should be able to pick up a decent starting second baseman. I agree. You can always pick up a second baseman. If Beckham doesn't hit in April, make him the utility guy instead of Omar. He's really really good defensively.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) What will be great is once Walker is gone, and I'd say its most likely he's in his final month or so as a White Sox coach, there will be no reason to make any personnel changes. Rios will be a monster, Dunn will instantly go back to being what he was, and there will be no reason Beckham won't hit .320 with 20 homers next year. Who is everyone going to blame when it doesn't happen? The new hitting coach, of course, and the new manager. There's no way any manager is going to escape the second guessing on here, and actually be popular, unless we lead the division early and keep that lead all season.
-
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 01:45 AM) Without Santos, PK and Buehrle, there is no season. I would edit that to say, 'Without Santos, PK and Buehrle, there is no .500 record.' This team is .500 with them; .400 without them, easily the worst team in baseball w/out them.
-
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 01:41 AM) The batting statistics say that is impossible. Factor in his salary and there's no way any Sox player has been a bigger downer for a team. He's by far the worst everyday player in White Sox history. I mean somebody who gets regular at bats.
