  1. Becks blew that. He wasn't going to get that guy at home. DP was only option, right?
  2. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 04:22 AM) OZZIE SANTOS CANT PITCH TO LEFT HANDED HITTERS!! NO SLIDER! He's our closer.
  3. I like our hitting tonight, but I can't believe we can't complete the deal at home.
  4. I hate giving games away with walks. Pitch Sergio
  5. QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 05:41 AM) I haven't either, the problem is if they aren't we are going to go through a pretty rough few years waiting for them to expire off the payroll.. And I honestly don't believe there is anyway Dunn doesn't get back to at least respectability next season.. you don't hit 38+ HRs for that long of a stretch and then all of the sudden cant hit .170 with no power, it makes no sense at all and is extremely flukey Rios? I don't expect much from him.. he has the talent, he just doesn't give a s*** and I don't see how that's going to change.. hes got his money regardless of how he does.. Peavy is 12-11 with a 4.60 ERA in the bulk of his White Sox career.. that's 5th starter material, and for the money we have to pay him that's nothing to be excited about.. If he gets fully healthy and is like old Peavy, awesome.. but that seems kind of unlikely to me at this point, I sure hope it happens though.. The start of a new season won't magically turn Dunn into the old Dunn. Will he identify what the problem is and work to improve? Or get even fat and happier this offseason with all that money guaranteed? I'd say the chances of him having merely lost it are way greater than him magically turning into the old Dunn. Like somebody said, it's almost impossible to hit what he is hitting.
  6. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Certainly, he should have benched Dunn or moved him down, but I think some decisions he can take complete credit for - like sticking with Pierre at leadoff despite the critics (.330/.366/.400/.766 post ASB). Hey a lot of people still don't want Pierre playing. Check the last game thread where I got mauled for merely suggesting Juan was a "good" baseball player.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:09 PM) Trouble is, the East teams just thrashed us last week. Including beating up on that pitching. Yep. Thrashed is a good word. This team does have good pitching and defense which is supposed to make the Sox a great postseason team. Of course our defense is kind of nullified by catcher since we can't throw anybody out on the basepaths.
  8. If Dunn is playing again he needs to hit the frickin ball. Put it in play, Adam. Preferably start hitting it over the wall. I mean my god we're technically in a playoff race despite his being on the team. If he somehow had a good six weeks we'd actually probably maybe win the frickin division. Earn your money DUNN.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) If a foul ball comes at you, do not drop the kid while attempting to catch said foul ball. Like that one dad who just dropped his kid. What an amazing 'caught on tape' that was. Crazy what happens sometimes when a foul ball is involved.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) I have a feeling this might be a blessing in disguise. Can Flowers throw people out any better than AJ? AJ has been hitting very well. Maybe you are right. I wonder how much he'll play Lucy. Is Oz a big Flowers guy?
  11. Is Flowers this good that we need him playing every day over AJ? I know AJ's defense sucks, but AJ has had a ton of multi hit games this year. He's doing OK. I agree DeAza should play over Rios. Lilly probably should be the DH over Dunn. He has a better chance of tagging a home run than Dunn.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) Honestly, this season sounds like a box office smash to me. The 127 million dollar little engine that could. Who despite horrible management, general management, and multi-million dollar players who perform like they're actually stock brokers, still fights back and manages to reach the enviable position of mediocrity. Somebody get Spielberg on the horn, STAT! Great post. Funny thing is if the team could take off NOW and finish 10 over .500 we'd consider it a good season cause we'd make the playoffs after all this s***.
  13. Resiliency? We shall see. The team is .500 again. There is still enough time to rally and actually act like a contender. If the team does so, it could be a memorable six weeks and a season to be proud of. If the team immediately gets swept the next three games and dips to 3 below again, the total frustration will be back. From watching the Sox play baseball even as recently as the KC series, I don't think the team is playing good baseball still and I would be shocked to see the team contend. But it is possible STILL to have a season we can actually be proud of. Will the Sox do so?? It's up to them. I doubt it, but they are .500 with time AGAIN to do something.

    Humber

    Interesting replies.
  15. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 04:22 AM) MEDIOCRE CAN STILL WIN THIS DIVISION IMO we are gonna have to be 10 over 500, maybe even 12 to win this division. That will be very difficult to do. Time to start piling up victories.

    Humber

I sense the general feeling is Humber hasn't been very good of late and I've read a lot of comments indicating he's spent, or out of gas. To the pitching experts, maybe ptatc ... is this natural? What are the technical reasons for his being spent at this time? Can we expect his arm to be all strong next season at this same juncture? Or will he be spent after the all-star break again? I'm just wondering why his reaching a certain amount of innings is suddenly the reason for his being not as effective as the first half. If we are to assume his arm is fatigued because he's pitched more innings than ever before ... my question is, when can we expect him to be able to pitch into August, September, October effectively? Would that be next year? Never? I truly would love to be enlightened on arm strength.
  17. Isn't Joey Cora highly thought of by Jerry? I think when Oz takes the Florida job he'll just name Joey.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) Take this for what it is worth. Spoke with my guy on 35th today. This is the only scenario he knows that has been discussed. 1.) Guillen/Cooper out (presumably will go to Florida) 2.) Williams moved up or moved out. 3.) Hahn new GM. 4.) La Russa/Duncan hired. La Russa/Duncan hire would mean no rebuild. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) Under this scenario, I couldn't be happier to miss the playoffs. Even if it means the loss of Cooper. 2.) Tizzle. Really? I always want to make the playoffs. If we pass Detroit and make the playoffs that will mean we prolly finish 10 over .500 which would mean we're playing pretty good baseball. With our pitching staff and closer(s) Sergio and Sale, who knows? I don't think we'll make the playoffs, but if we did I'd be excited big time. 1.) I think Guillen's off to Florida regardless, unless we make the ALCS or something and he's a hero again. 2.) I don't care if KW gets some glossy title, just give the job to Hahn who I know nothing about except everybody says he's a future star. 3.) Great. 4.) Ugh on LaRussa/Duncan. Why would he leave St. Looie at this point? I mean even if Looie doesn't make the playoffs, they still want him back, right?? Why would he leave for the White Sox? That makes no sense. St. Louis Cardinals baseball is a religion; White Sox baseball? I mean we have us diehards and 20,000 south side diehards, but this is a Cubs town, baby.
  19. Nice win to get to .500. Morel's defense is so good, so good you almost have to let him be the starter again next year just to see if his natural progression lets him become a decent hitter. He's amazingly good defensively. OK we are .500. How many times have we made it to .500 and lost the next game? It's time to get over .500. Please White Sox, play hard, play great vs. Cleveland and get this party started. This flirtation with .500 is bizarre. We are .500 and at home. Get it done, White Sox. Time is runnin out.
  20. QUOTE (since56 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:41 AM) Flowers and Lillibridge both in the starting lineup. Both came over from the Braves in the Javier Vazquez trade right. Maybe that trade was ok after all. Lilli looks like he'd be a better DH than Dunn. He swings for the fences and judging by his home runs compared to at bats, he's a legitimate DH candidate.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) Except for the fact that 4 of those guys ought to be producing better than they are...which is supposedly why you keep a manager around who isn't a great tactical manager, to "motivate" players, to "get the best" out of players. Which he's clearly abjectly failed at. So some of those other guys are "good" baseball players just not producing currently? Just wondering. In the day and age of Sabes I would think some of the people I'm arguing with would say those other players are NOT good baseball players. Cause their standards are pretty high if Juan is not considered "good" and in fact more than one calling him "terrible."
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) Did you miss the phrase "A lot of the pitchers"? Anwyay, you're actually right, the fact taht 5 of the spots in our lineup have been s***ty is why we're struggling to reach .500. I've been talking everyday players, not pitchers. My bad if he wants to talk pitchers too. One might argue Ozzie is manager of the year not a bum with just three good everyday players to work with.
