QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Ramirez, Konerko, Quentin, and a lot of the pitchers. Maybe Lillibridge if he doesn't turn into a pumpkin with more PT. OK, Lexi Konerko and Quentin are good baseball players. No wonder we have a s***ty team with just three good players. I guess a .500 record is pretty damn good with just three good players.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) Juan is a terrible baseball player who happens to have good contact skills. One redeeming quality does not make him much less of a terrible player. At his best, he is average. Who on this team is a "good" baseball player? Tell me.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) You're ridiculous...I pray that Ozzie takes Juan with him to Florida next year so you can see how terrible of a player he is. Calling Juan a terrible baseball player is just wrong. It is so wrong.
-
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:44 PM) Pierre is a nice player the sox just expect more out of him than he can provide because of Morel, Rios, Rios and Dunn being useless. I'll take "nice player." That's good enough. I think he's a good baseball player as well. You guys that dislike Juan. If he somehow got his average to .295 would you still say he's not even "good?" Amazing how different Sabes people are than the average fan/announcer.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) No, we just watched him in the OF in April. Ah, April. I hope you guys despise a whole batch of White Sox for April.
-
I can't believe simply calling Juan a good baseball player can cause so much angst. You guys have high standards if you don't agree with me on that.
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) And any offense out of a defensive SS of his caliber is a bonus. He's the best player on this team. My eye test tells me Paulie is the best player on the team, sabes be damned.
-
You guys that love sabes can bury me, but to the average Joe, Lexi's .263, 12 homers and 49 RBis and six stolen bases scream mediocre season to me, also 64 runs scored. I still like him a lot. He's a likeable player.
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) I see your point with Castro and Flowers (though Bridge is getting up there). And regarding Ramirez, are doubles, walks and home runs are meaningless to you? Personally I've been disappointed in Lexi this season. If I'm way off base then I mistakenly offend the Lexi-lovers as they offend me when they hate on Juan. Somebody else was bagging on Lexi the other day as well.

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) For the record: better White Sox hitters by wOBA (which credits hitters for everything they do offensively based on the context neutral value it adds to run production). Konerko Quentin Flowers Lillibridge Castro Pierzynski Ramirez You can take out Castro, Lilly and Flowers because they haven't played enough to compare to steady Juan. I'd disagree on Ramirez so that makes Juan fourth best on the team. Not bad.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) Why laugh. He's got something like 17 bunt hits. You may not like the word "excellent." I can't believe anybody wouldn't at least agree that Juan Pierre is a good baseball player.
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) 0.1 WAR. He's not good defensively, has no power, and doesn't get on base frequently. He hits for a good average and runs well (not counting SB attempts where he hurts us). That doesn't add up to much of a player. Arguably he's our third best hitter. That's pretty f***ing excellent.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) There's no standard by which he's been excellent. On a team full of bums he's been tolerable if you ignore April and May and his fielding. To the 80 percent of America who still follow batting average, his batting average is excellent. His defense is fine. His willingness to learn how to bunt and get a hit off a bunt is very excellent. He's a good ballplayer.
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Corner outfielders who slug .337 are not good players. I'm glad he's less embarrassing lately, though. I'll stand by my comment. He's a good baseball player and a good leadoff hitter. A lot of fans (not saying you) buried him after his first error of the season. On a team full of bums (this season) he's been excellent.
-
Juan Pierre with the bunt hit. He's a good baseball player.
-
Nice approach to Butler after falling behind. Nice job pitching around the leadoff walk.
-
Lillibomb is an interesting character. He's pretty much got a power hitter philosophy. If he played as much as Dunn, would he lead the Sox in homers? At this rate wouldn't he hit 30-35? Danks is wild now.
-
When we walk other teams' batters. Ouch. When we walk, normally don't matter.
-
QUOTE (since56 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) Another Sox batter hit. Why not? Pitch inside all you want against the White Sox they never retaliate! Blame our pitchers. They have the ball in their hands. It could be a sign of what they really think of their teammates.
-
Any win is a good win, but it sure looked like two very bad baseball teams playing at the Cell tonight. Kudos to CQ and Paulie ... and the Royals for sucking more than the Sox who just seem to love stranding runners.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 04:52 AM) And you know some asshole is going to say Dunn should suck it up and earn his contract. And asshole would be the right word for that person. Condolences. He seems like a good guy; he just can't hit a baseball any more.
-
Royals announcers were freaking out at Lilly not taking the unassisted out to start that inning. Sale was amazing. Sox win, which is good. Stranding so many runners again so bad. If we don't win 2 of 3 this series is an utter disaster. 2 of 3 is OK obviously but not good. Lexi's at bat in the eight BTW was embarrassing. I have to wonder how intelligent he is after that debacle. Two obvious strikes and he's throwing the bat and starting to run to first on one and starting to run to first on another. I almost wish he'd taken a ball just to see the ump call him out rather than a weak ass grounder to end the inning. All is well though. SOX WIN.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 03:14 AM) That might be the night No way. The game is too close. It'll have to resume.
-
Bad time for a rain delay. I bet all but 1,000 fans go home. Can we hold on for the final inning and a half when the play resumes about midnight?
-
Give Crain and Ozzeroo a little credit there folks. We trying to win the battle of the bums tonight.
