Can people who want people like me to quit beating a dead horse and writing the same negative opinion of Rios over and over please please stop tempting people like me with posts like the above? Can we all just agree we hope Rios will turn it around next year? You all get the fact I've been down on Rios; I get the message that some of you really like him.

Little surprised in all the Peavy love he didn't mention Clayton Richard ihas a 1.88 ERA over his last four starts, held the Dodgers to one hit over seven innings in his last start and has allowed 15 hits in his last 24 innings. Richard is 5-2 with a 4.08 ERA and the Padres are 9-3 in his starts. That deal couldn't have been made w/out including Richard? Yes I love Peavy. Yes I'm a Richard fan. Yes I realize 10 posters are now going to shrug off Richard as a prospect because he put up these numbers "in the National League."

If Detroit does make it, I sure hope Verlander gets to start Game One and not the game on Sunday. That would really really make the playoff series interesting. You win Game One behind Verlander and steal Game Two a few hours later (assuming it's night game, then day game in games one and two) and before you know it ... upset city!!

Would like to see the Sox help out and beat Detroit. I'd feel pretty good if I was Leyland, though. That split vs. Minnesota wasn't bad at all for Detroit. Detroit averted disaster, though admittedly all of Motor City wishes the Tigers had wrapped it up at home today.
-
we also might have won without a horrible bullpen and bad hitting attack and bad baserunning. Let's face it, there were plenty of reasons we had the record we did.

He deserves a D for what he did in Chicago this year offensively. As far as next year? He deserves a clean slate to start next season. At least we've heard nothing about him having a bad attitude or being lazy so far. That's a good sign. Hopefully he'll have a good spring, impressing Oz and Kenny and not stagger into the season with no confidence. He's making a lot of money and will need to produce or he'll likely be the target of boo birds. Hopefully at the plate he won't resemble the guy we saw make out after out this year.

I feel for you guys who weren't around at Old Comiskey when parking and ticket prices were cheap. Steinbrenner ruined it for all fans. Used to be baseball was really affordable before he decided to try to sign all good players (and some mediocre ones) at whatever the cost.

Wonder if the Tigers will pound the Twins tomorrow to wrap it up at home.
-
Poor Twinks. Two years in a row close but no cigar. They didn't play quite as well at home the first half of this year.
-
The Twins must feel sick. Two years in a row to come so close. Hopefully Detroit will put them out of their misery tomorrow. Three back with four to go is so impossible. Might as well make the weekend games meaningless.
-
We need to win series after series against teams in our division next year or we're going to hang around the dreaded .500 mark again. Love when Mark pitches like that. Great win, Mark.
-
Anybody got a gut feeling? I really don't. I sort of feel like Detroit is going to split these next 2 with the Twinks.
-
I'm saying he still gets the chance to go for titles in Minnesota. The Twins have had good luck contending in the Central through the years. It's not like the Twins are the Royals. He's probably like the majority of the players and wants to go to the Big Apple. But some have given their teams hometown discounts realizing the grass isn't always greener.
-
All Detroit has to do is split the next 2 to be 2 up with 3 to go. Got to like Detroit's position to hang on for dear life. Minnesota splitting the next 2 doesn't do it much good. Twins got to win tomorrow then go for the kill to get it tied heading into the final series. It shows you ever moreso how important games are earlier in the season. Come this time you really needed all the wins you could get earlier.
-
That second game gives them breathing room back at 2 games. Amazing how different things woulda been if Detroit lost that game. It was a close game. Can't see the Twins taking the next two. They really have to, however, if they want to control their own destiny. Tigers so far avoiding total collapse.
-
I hope so. If all those starters are healthy going into the season, we certainly have a chance to have one of the best rotations around. Should be interesting to see what tinkering KW does.
-
Good post. You have good logical arguments and facts about players, so I'm a little more hopeful about Rios after reading that. I still don't think I'm normally that negative, with the exception of most of the month of September. I probably should have let those who still had hope following that road trip have their fun, but I wasn't the only person posting that we were finished. I'd have to go back and check, but I don't think I'd call Freddy a bum, because I usually am extremely loyal to those Sox who helped us win it all. Hopefully next year will be our year. If Liney and Pena do fix those things you suggested it certainly would help our bullpen.

How bout the rare big leaguers that actually enjoy a city and realize 120 mill is enough? Didn't Buehrle and Paulie give the Sox hometown discounts? Playing in the NY fishbowl over a team that is always in the hunt in cozy Minnesota would be a stupid choice, but if he wants to make it, go for it.

Tonight's game is so huge. If Minny wins and it's even, wow. I think many people simply think Detroit will win and be back comfortably up by two games. To get it back to even tonight would be big time big. Detroit has to win this game or Game Three might have the aura of Wrigley Field when the Cubs were choking vs. The Dodgers last postseason.

What's with the my god? I stand my my comment he'd be a moron to go elsewhere like New York. You think NY gives a rats ass about him after he retires? This guy will make a zillion dollars in Minnesota and can do whatever he wants in Minny after he retires. I'm talking about quality of life. Not just sitting around after you retire but making money doing nothing as a legend in Minny. Len Dawson has been a hero on KC TV for decades after playing for the Chiefs. George Brett is a god here and still is making money working for the Royals.

Zambrano: Sox One of Three Teams He Would Go To

Just by coincidence, I've had the bad luck of seeing some of Floyd's bad outings. Seems whenever I catch a game Danks pitches he's been outstanding. I know Floyd's good. I guess I've just seen Danks with my own eyes more. Hopefully next year I'll have mlb.com all season. -
Tigers are discovring what we did last year: Those Twins are pests. Can you imagine if Minny had two playoffs in 2 seasons? I mean one game division playoffs? I'd like to see Twins win it then win the first round playoff series as well. Go Twinks. Get it out of your system this year. Blowing the division also might carry over and affect the Tigers next April.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) John Danks is our #4 pitcher next year. The numbers he's been putting up are nigh exceptional for his age. I think he's better than Floyd, but that's just me. I like them both. -
Bolt, I can't believe you think Dotel is a "great relief pitcher." As far as this post, you had a nice call on Freddy. I think he's been very good, excellent. With the Rios thing and constant reminders we weren't going to win the division, most of my posts were in response to post praising Rios and response to those insisting we had a good chance. Why shouldn't I give my opinion? I enjoyed the season greatly until that road trip where suddenly the season was over. You'll never convince me Rios wasn't acquired for what he can do NOW as well as the future. We were in it when we got him and he failed miserably to do anything positive. Why would I lay off already when he was making out after out and our season was going down the drain not all because of him, but he truly SUCKED. I'm ready to give him a clean slate for next year and maybe he'll figure it out. I still don't think he's worth the money but we'll find out next year. At what he's making he should be one of our best players. I'm not going to dog him in April and May because at that point the season will just be starting to play itself out. His failure this year was in crunch time and he was supposed to give us a huge lift toward the postseason. I simply couldn't see how many people bagged on Dye and not Rios? Why aren't you mad at those who day after day bashed Dye? Face it, you just don't like my style of posting. Plenty of other people have stupid rants about players, especially the s*** written about Dye this year and Konerko last year. Let's see people turn on AJ if he hits .200 the first half next year. If he does, I won't be one bagging on him cause of his track record HERE. Rios showed nothing when we were in the race and got what he deserved. His track record was with another team. Dye has a track record with our team and fans threw him under the bus big time. Good call on Freddy, though. He has been a pleasant surprise. If he reports to ST in shape and not fat, I hope he earns a starting spot. And after seeing Torres pitch a few times I'm afraid you may be right about his stuff. He did impress that one start though.

Huh? Overrated but awesome? I hate posts that bag on players after they do something great like pitch a complete game.
