White Sox @ Angels 9:07 CT
QUOTE (hi8is @ May 18, 2017 -> 06:43 AM) I could see us losing about 30 of our next 40 games. Definitely, this is the team built for the long haul we're seeing. Mediocre to crap starting pitching on paper. Horses*** bullpen cept for the above average closer on paper. Ridiculously bad lineup on paper. Also horrific defense and only average speed to a bit below average on the basepaths. Losing 30 of 40 is a good prediction.

Sox will acquire Maybin when he's 33 and he'll have a Melky like career with the Sox luck.

White Sox @ Angels 9:07 CT
Sox need to trade Q and Robertson ASAP cause Robertson already has hit the "being human" stage. Nobody else is tradeable.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2017 -> 04:07 AM) So about that trade value for Gonzalez. He has nothing 3rd time out of last 4 Not saying you thought we would, but no way we were getting anything for Gonzalez for gosh sakes. He's just another guy. Ditto Holland. Ditto Frazier. Ditto Melky. These guys are worth little to nothing. Nate Jones as well. He aint bringing anything useful folks.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 16, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) It's entirely true, though. The Bulls literally couldn't have done worse than they did this year. They're bad, out in the first round, they don't have a tier 1 superstar, their front office is still in tact. The Bulls are lodged in NBA hell. Those are two long innings.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Just my opinion: This one won't be the end of Trump. The next one will be the impeachable offense. He still probably won't last a full year.

What's up with Saladino?
QUOTE (FT35 @ May 17, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) This is a solid investigation of stats and reasoning! I like Tyler, but I never saw what many others did when they were calling for him to start. I see him more of a journeyman bench player--a Tony Graffanino player comp. Gloves have a way of finding roster spots in MLB. I think he's better than what he is now--but I couldn't tell you exactly what he is right now. It looks like someone watched him hit a few bombs in batting practice and told him that he had what it takes to be a power hitter in this league and to swing as hard as he can ALL the time. I don't remember this being where he found his success in the past. I think you are right. He does swing awfully hard. I think he's done. Too old to reinvent himself now. Just another flop. I was convinced he was an above average hitter.

Umpires do suck, no question about it. Baseball doesn't care, though. Union is too powerful.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 17, 2017 -> 03:22 AM) If you think the Sox are bad now, just wait till next year Surely the Sox are gonna still get no hit a few times before the season is over. This is pretty much the worst everyday lineup I've ever seen. Renteria is already manager of the year for concocting as many wins as he has.

To the statniks ... Stoney just mentioned a pitcher was 7-0 and lauded a low ERA. Does that infuriate you? I thought wins and ERA meant NOTHING nowadays.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2017 -> 02:37 AM) Can't wait for Frazier to be traded at the deadline for a 25 year old A ball pitcher. Nobody will want that guy. He's done. Why would a contender want him clogging up the roster?

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2017 -> 05:32 AM) Clearly NOBODY freaked out about Benghazi, e-mails or the Clinton Foundation. Pretty much got a free pass. Oh, that was Obama, oops. Don't worry caulfield. Trump is toast. Maybe not this time but there are three things at work here that will get him out of office before his first year is up. 1.) He is an aggressive clown. He's acting like he did in the business world in his meetings with fellow higher-ups. He's trying to impress them with his "old uncle" type jokes/information. He's sharing too much classified stuff with people the US shouldn't be trusting with any information. He may not be dumb enough to do this again, but he'll continue f***ing up. 2.) The press is DETERMINED and can't be slowed down. They have been in a frenzy since the day he was elected to "get him" (I am not saying that in a negative way; he can and should be brought down and they are doing a fine job of covering him) and they are definitely going to get him. They smell a fraud and coupled with his mean personality and hatred of the press, the press will win. The old saying, "You can't beat a guy who sells ink by the barrel" remains true. You are supposed to be kind to the press, not anger them and this press corps will get him within a year. 3.) Finally don't discount his simply giving up and quitting. He is a very selfish one percenter and he wants glory/praise/honor and if he's getting none of these things and continues to be pursued like a common criminal, he may just quit. RELAX folks, he's a one and done; well he won't even make it to one. Trust me.

Hawk is in a know it all mode tonight. Good thing Stoney isn't in the mood to disagree with him. He's letting Hawk tell it like it is so to speak. Hawk isn't in his mean mode but definitely in his know it all mode. Hawk has all the answers.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
You guys are freaking out. Why not just hold a contest to see when he's impeached and removed? I predict he doesn't last one year. I'm still more worried about N Korea than Russia. Trouble is brewing. Trump is gonna want to go out with a bang and we know the Korean leader is certifiably mad.

Beat the Streak Fantasy
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ May 16, 2017 -> 03:09 AM) Should've gone with my strategy. He had the entire season to make 6 more picks. No reason to double down with middling hitters from the same team as if the season was ending in a few more days. Heartbreaking, but why is he doubling down? Man.

May 14th Game Thread: White Sox vs. San Diego
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 14, 2017 -> 10:30 PM) I would tell you to look beyond stats and learn to appreciate the game of baseball and how hard it is to succeed everyday. Understand its complexities. I don't have time to listen to people criticize all the time. It's as if folks think players struggle because they want to fail Somebody should do a study on guys who try to hit a home run every time up and their value, versus what their value would be if they learned how to bunt and simply hit a single every time via bunt. To beat the shift. Now if you are any power hitter today, you are basically trying to hit a home run every time to the plate. That's maybe 30 bombs a year if you are a success. Because of the shift, you hit about .215 if you are lucky with 30 homers and 80-100 RBI if your homers are productive ones. Let's say you bunted or took a half swing every time to beat the shift. Which would make you more valuable? I'm of the opinion a guy like Frazier is basically worthless because of the shift.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2017 -> 11:34 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/13/asia/north-k...tile/index.html About time for war with North Korea to change the Comey conversation and provide Americans a distraction The combination of an impulsive president, an active U.S. military that is ready for action, and a bully-acting North Korea with a leader who seems to be the type who wants to be remembered forever, is not a good combination. I still think something big is going to happen sooner rather than later with N. Korea. Hopefully China realizes we have an impulsive president and gets involved. If not could be a blockbuster.

May 13th Game Thread: White Sox vs. San Diego
QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 14, 2017 -> 01:06 AM) I still find it hilarious people wanted him to start full time here (and for a while) Dude is a utility player through and through. You must be a much better judge of talent than some of us. I thought all he did was hit. Then he becomes a regular this year and blows. To be fair, hardly anybody on here thought he was a can't miss hitter. I did, but not many were singing his praises like he was a lock to be a star.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 14, 2017 -> 03:08 AM) Amazing how much Davidson's average has plummeted. Love how dangerous he can be, but has a bad knack of swinging and missing on average pitches The curse of the White sox slugger is hitting him. He's at .230, how long before the Dunn-like, Frazier-like, sub .200 average?

QUOTE (swissarmyknife @ May 13, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) While I don't condone tanking, if we should just happen to luck into a top 5 2018 draft pick I would not mind it. Rodon was a No. 3 overall pick. Carson Fulmer was No. 8 overall pick. Are the draft people so sure the White Sox know how to draft superstars?

Tommy Kahnle
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) We bring players on board through free agency, the draft or trades and help them develop into successful contributors. All the while complaining as the struggle and learn and develop presumably because they aren't hall of fame level contributors from the get go. Once they find it and succeed we start calling for them to be traded for someone or something. Don't know what or who that might be. How do you build a winning team with that approach? I don't think the rebuilding people complain about guys acquired. They will give them all the time they need. They love the new names and want more of them all the time.

--5/12 Game Thread: White Sox vs Padres--
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 13, 2017 -> 04:30 AM) I wouldn't be counting on Tilson for anything and by 2020 Rodon may be on the trade market because with his agent you know he's going to go free agency and probably (barring new ownership) out of the Sox price range. And you know your stuff, so this is disconcerting. Tilson stinks and IF Rodon ever gets good he gawn. Yuk.
