Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:42 AM) Yes. Pence supports gay conversion therapy, which is torture. Damn. I'm pretty sure Catholics support gay conversion therapy as well and Notre Dame is a catholic institution.

Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:38 AM) Uh... have you been paying attention to the Pope at all over the last couple years? And no, Notre Dame as a university does not espouse views like that. So you are telling me it's not a sin? I think it is a sin in the rulebook. The Pope is welcoming to everybody. The Catholics welcome all people. but if push comes to shove I think he says it's a sin because taking part in a homosexual act I believe is a sin. https://www.catholic.com/tract/homosexuality

Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:28 AM) Well, Pence was down for literal torture of gay teenagers Seriously? He wanted torture of human beings? WTF. If true can't imagine him being in the White House as 2nd in command. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:33 AM) What does ND graduation day have to do with Pence? He shouldn't have been there in the first place. Graduation day is about the students, not some Washington asshat and his religious/political views. Good on those students for walking out. I know. But some schools like to invite speakers. Will Farrell was great at USC. Trump went to Liberty U. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 22, 2017 -> 01:34 AM) Catholics can't be gay? I don't think Catholics can be gay going by the rulebook. I know our church welcomes all people. But I think the official stance in Rome is it is a sin. If I'm mistaken my bad. So my point was how the hell can they go to a school that preaches this? They are hypocrites to only complain one day of the year it seems to me. https://www.catholic.com/tract/homosexuality

Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 22, 2017 -> 12:24 AM) greg... I went to a Jesuit University. I'm as atheist as they come. Almost no one chooses their school based on religion these days. Cool Reddy, thanx. I was just wondering if they are the type to protest their beliefs at a graduation ceremony, I'd 'think' they wouldn't want anything to do with Notre Dame to begin with. Cause ND is Catholic and the rules state homosexuality is a sin I believe. That's as bad or worse than what Pence is preaching. What you say makes sense but it seems like it's weird to walk out of the ceremony when each and every day they might consider walking off campus cause of what the campus leaders believe.

Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
This is not a negative statement. I'd like someone to educate me here. The Notre Dame students who walked out went to a university with 85 percent Catholic students. Their main beef with Pence from what I read at least was his gay and lesbian stance. In fact this was written in an article: "The vice president has received harsh criticism from LGBTQ activists, who view him as an opponent of their agenda. Pence is seen by some as a proponent of so-called gay conversion therapy, a highly controversial process of attempting to alter a person's sexual preference, sometimes through physical abuse, that has been banned in multiple states." My question is ... why are they accepting a degree from Notre Dame? I love my Catholic religion but though the religion believes in respecting all people (most churches make a point of saying we welcome all people), I do believe homosexuality is still against the rules so to speak in Catholicism. My point is ... isn't Notre Dame the institution and what it represents actually as bad or worse than Pence?? Why would they go to a ceremony with any of the Notre Dame higher ups to begin with?? Again, educate me please if I'm wrong. But my point is their school should in their eyes be as bad or worse than Pence. What in the hell are they doing going to Notre Dame in the first place if they are against what Notre Dame preaches??

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 21, 2017 -> 09:01 PM) Trading Chris Sale was the right thing for this team. Yes but you sighed at the Trout comparison. It's easy to see the value in other team's players but as I said Sale is the pitching version of Trout. A true phenom. But in the same scenario would we have traded Trout? The answer is "yes" if you are going by the same philosophy of rebuild that the Sox are apparently embracing. You know guys like me wanted to keep Sale and buy free agents and make the usual tinkering trades to fill holes. We'd have had Sale and Q starting in a year Avi is breaking loose to go with stars in Abreu and Anderson (I didn't mean Frazier for gosh sakes) and a bullpen that until recently seemed decent. Could we have won a s***ty Central Division? Hmmm..... Some of us wanted to try things with a manager who had a clue, somebody besides Robin (great player; bad manager).

Walking Out of Graduations Like Notre Dame's
Any Notre Dame grads? I wondered what you thought of 100 students getting up and leaving the graduation ceremony to both boos and cheers when Pence was introduced as speaker. Do you think it's proper to cause a disruption on such a big day for many? My guess is the over-riding memory of graduation for those folks who graduated today (I applaud you all, Golden Domers! ND is a difficult school; Happy Graduation to You!) will be the protest rather than the happy occasion. Yes it is our right that we embrace to be allowed to protest. But is it proper? Those who protested could have simply not attended their own graduation and let the others have their day. I don't have too much of a stance except to say I think protesting outside of the stadium would have been better. Or protesting right after the Pence invitation to speak was announced to try to get it stopped. I'm not crazy about the protestors stealing the show and ruining the day for others proudly wearing the cap and gown.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) Mike Trout has all of zero playoff wins, so there still might have been a rebuild even with Trout. This isn't the NBA Then I guess most would have wanted to trade Trout in that scenario, cause Sale is the pitching version of Trout and the majority did handstands of joy after shipping him.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) No one enjoys a loss. You are OK with the losses because it helps in the greater goal of resetting things. It increases the odds. Speaking for yourself? I can accept that. Some fans do enjoy a loss, that's what pisses me off in reading the threads. They are actively wanting losses and long losing streaks, etc. If you are 'OK' with the losses, fine. I disagree that "no one enjoys a loss." Read some of the threads. As far as your last line, that's what I don't understand. I don't care about the odds. What about the pedro alvarez example? He's as highly touted as this Beer guy. There are no guarantees. I do understand the theory the loss lovers are going by. Believe me I do. I see no reason for throwing away six months of your life wanting your team to lose. If that's not your position and you are just 'ok' with the losses, good for you. Some people, and they can admit it now if they like, actively are wanting L after L after L. I think it's just ridiculous when you have examples of Trout and Alvarez staring you in the face showing you how uncertain the draft can be. And in the NBA Odom and Embiid (if he continues to be hurt). There are no guarantees baby. But a W guarantees me happiness during the W and every moment after the W until the next game begins.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) I remember a few years ago everybody was drooling over a kid named Pedro Alvarez, who I believe wound up being drafted second overall that year. How many would have liked to "Tank for Alvarez?" We think alike. Finally.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) We better not see any posts from you in any draft threads this year or next since you are so uninterested in drafts. I don't think you'll have to think twice about that. Check past draft threads. There's a slight possibility I've asked if the player is good or something but I doubt I've even asked that. Sure I can get hopeful about a draft or a Robert, but generally the draft does not concern me enough to talk about it/write a post about it. It's like fathom in the offseason. He goes about his business and never posts about things that don't concern him.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Losing begets losing. I'd rather see the Sox improve their scouting and talent evaluation so they can draft wiser instead of earlier. It would also enable them to make better FA signings. They also need to improve the organization at developing talent in the minors. In my opinion, any MLB organization that tanks intentionally just to get a higher draft position (I'm not saying the Sox are doing this) deserves to wind up with a high draft slot for decades on end. Losing is for losers. AMEN AMEN. Worded so much better than I'm capable of! I agree with Fireworks man.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) This is a Greg argument in a nutshell. Upset at people wanting to the team to lose for a draft pick and crying that you just can't understand that line of thinking, then following it up by saying "Well I really have no interest in the draft." Well then of course you aren't going to understand the concept of artificial suppression of your team, you are CHOOSING not to understand. If you actually cared about the draft, how a rebuilding team has to operate and the long term decisions that go into it, you may understand the concept of losing games in the 2017 season, but you CHOOSE not to. Don't go on rants on other posters because you've made the decision to be purposefully obtuse on the topic. Oh, and go get Rick Hahn on the phone and ask him what draft pick he wants after the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He wants losses, too. I'm not choosing not to understand. In my mind (and I assure you other fans), sure the No. 7 pick was great and the No. 8 pick sucked eggs. But rather than deduce, by gosh I wish we lost 5 more games to get the 7 pick, my brain suggests there are TONS of great players available at 8 and the regime FAILED by taking a Fulmer in that slot. I do have no interest in the draft. As a fan yes I have interest when a Sox draftee ultimately makes the bigs and succeeds. Does not following his progression make me a bad fan? Maybe, but I don't think so. The team that takes the field in Chicago is the one that matters to me. How they get there can be compelling for some, but not me. Give me victories and I'll attend the parade. I'm truly sorry if my position angers/annoys many but the active rooting for losses angers/offends me as well. My bad.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) This time a million. It's easy to say enjoy the game any way I want. And you'll enjoy the game any way you want. At the same time ... the loss lovers feel the need to post time and again how much they want a loss or how they want and expect the team to go 10-30 in their next 40, etc, oft times in the middle of a big win or after a big win. It could be stated their posts are affecting the enjoyment of the game for me. So I in turn post something that affects the enjoyment of the game for them. In other words, if they'd tone down the rooting for losses I'd tone down the rooting for wins. You know, it goes both ways. When you have the non popular position as I do much of the time, my posts stand out to those of you who take the popular position when in reality 80 percent of the time I'm just responding to somebody's post. Yes, enjoy the games any way you want, but when somebody posts something and I mention, "What about Trout?" and nobody has a good response, it makes you wonder. ... GO SOX!

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) I'd rather they wind up with the 25th pick and draft the next Mike Trout. Isn't Trout the ultimate counter argument against tanking? The loss lovers have no comeback. Give me wins during the six glorious months known as baseball season then give me a good first round draft pick. Working fans have the right to demand as much is demanded of them in the workplace.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) Yes, he did, because it did suck. And his people did propose a completely overhauled system. Except the new system is infinitely worse than Obama Care. And this is coming from someone who was very negatively affected by ObamaCare If you get a chance could you write us a long essay on here explaining your situation? And how ObamaCare didn't help you much and how TrumpCare will be worse? I truly can't understand this issue from the complicated poorly written articles about it. Thanks. I hope whatever your issue is will be fine.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
Say what you want about Trump the chump and how the country despises him. It still was unique for SNL to open with "Alleluia" song ostensibly meaning thank God that Trump has allegorically hung himself and will be gone by the start of next season's SNL shows. I'm all for comedy but think that one was kind of a stretch. I still don't think Trump is going to get impeached over the Russia thing. We shall see I guess. SNL sneaking in David S. Pumpkins in a skit was pretty classic. Overall the show was not that funny again, though. My point is I thought the Alleluia thing was a bit disrespectful at this point. I could be wrong. Maybe this week is the week the Russia thing hangs Trump.

Sign Avi to a long term contract?
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) Avi is 25 years old. He had a ton of pressure put on him as everyone started to compare him to Miggy Cabrera. Youth and a big head have apparently been dealt with and judging by his changed attitude and his physical fitness I am glad that real professional baseball staff make decisions on players like Avi and not folks posting their opinions El Rockin, you are my kind of fan. You are so positive! I like everybody else on this board except you pretty much thought of Avi as Tank, except for one thing, his effort. From what I could tell, Avi always gave great effort even when failing.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) But to Greg's point, if they just drafted Trout, no rebuild would have been necessary. Or signed Miguel Sano the same year the A's paid almost twice as much to Michael Ynoa. What do you guys say to that?? There are two sides to every issue.

May 21st Game Thread: White Sox @Seattle Mariners
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) What are your thoughts on the 7th instead of 8th pick in the '15 draft? I really have no interest in the draft. They got benintendi; we got Fulmer. So slot would have bailed the Sox out for making a horrible pick? I guess. I just don't have to care. It's still a huge nonsequitir for a fan to root for his/her team to lose over something as mystic as the draft. Anything can happen in the draft. Rooting for losses for draft slot is a non sequitir. I ask again what do all your relatives and friends think when you actively root for your team to suck? Very bizarre behavior to most of the world. You want your team to blow chunks for six months to position itself for that one day in June when you allegedly hit the jackpot and get a Fulmer, Rodon or Beckham. I'm not ignoring your point. Great, two more losses would have gotten the Sox Benintendi. Great I guess. I don't believe in fate like that. I'm just saying a non loss lover would look at that situation this way ... the No. 8 pick still could have brought a star. The Sox took Fulmer which now looks like a miss. You guys can root for losses all you want. It's just shocking and upsetting to me for some reason still. The reward of rooting for my team to lose and loving it when they lose to me is not worth the risk of a one-day pick in which the team has a very good chance of f***ing up anyway. Just get me a good player whether its 7, 8 or 18 please. It's your ... job, White sox!

QUOTE (flavum @ May 21, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) My hope is they play every 54 games at 23-31, which means 4-9 the next 13. Bottom line, they need to have the worst AL record with a losing interleague record. If they do that, they would max out on their draft position. What do you think of the picks of Fulmer and Rodon and Beckham? Isn't this the same regime? You loss lovers slay me. To be a fan and want your team to lose is so bizarre. What do non statniks in your life think of this silliness?

And that is a White Sox winner !
Avi baby. The team of Hawk and Wimpy. Loved watching Freeman pitch the ninth. Kept it on cause I had a feeling a position player would pitch. Nice win.
