  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 03:08 AM) Words words words words words, words words. Words words words. Words words words words words, words words. Words words words. Words words words words words, words words. Words words words. Words words words words words, words words. Words words words. Words words words words words, words words. Words words words. Words words words words words, words words. Words words words. Words words words words words, words words. Words words words. I'm just saying Rock Raines has ruined the thought of a good start by telling us 23-10. It wasn't me. He did it.
  2. Excellent win. Congrats Renteria and Sox. However Rock Raines got me to thinking we can't even be happy about this for one reason: 23-10. This means nothing cause of 23-10. I love Saladino. Very happy Anderson jacked that 2-0 pitch into the seats. Avi already has earned his salary. They ought to double it as motivation for the rest of the season. Even the biggest Avi haters always have enjoyed his hustle. He's always busted ass. Nice catch to end game. GREAT game. But rememberr 23-10. This is all meaningless.
  3. Supposedly a big tax cut is coming. Isn't that good news? Is Trump becoming da man?
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 05:57 AM) http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/201...-history-215075 Hillary Clinton's First 100 Days: An Alternate History Good stuff. Her approval ratings would probably be not much better than Trump at this point...maybe 3-5 points higher, at best. I repeat, the radio talk show guys say Trump has been awesome thus far and there's a liberal attack on the White House that is failing.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 01:40 AM) Royals 7-14 now. Jealous. Royals fans are hoping Jorge Soler is the key to turning it around. Right now they are slumping. They can't hit and Gordon looks like he's finished offensively. Still a great defender. Except for Duffy, their starters aren't very good. Their bullpen is not that good. They might be a last place team. No bats. Bad bullpen. Bad rotation. Great defense.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2017 -> 03:01 AM) If they go 12-1 the next 13, they will be right on pace with last year's team. I realize last year's 23-10 renders all discussion stupid at this stage of the season. I mean I wish I could remember last year's 23-10 and how sharp the Sox looked and how well they were playing. But I have no clue. Can't remember. This year's team obviously won't be 23-10. We'll be under .500 after 33 games obviously. I get madder than anybody when the Sox anemic hitters get shut out and I expect us to get shut out a historic amount of times this year. But when Avi wins another game with his bat it does impress me. When this pathetic bullpen excels like this, I'm happy. And when some really horrible starters pitch this well, I'm ecstatic. Right now I'm thrilled with Renteria. Again, after our 100th loss I'll be furious at him I'm sure, but the team sure looks interested under a real manager.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 10:45 PM) paging greg... I'm glad we swept those cocky assholes. I know it's early but KC always got well on the White Sox the last couple seasons. No matter how bad KC was playing they'd kick our ass. I realize last year the Sox were 23-10 so there's no way to compare. I don't remember how well the Sox were playing at 23-10. I know how bad they were the rest of the year though. I still expect this team to finish with over 100 losses but so far the team looks A-OK in terms of caring. That home run today by Avi was a huge home run. A tie game against a world championship team and he crushes a two-run bomb to win the game and assure the sweep. I'm sure I'll eat my words and be blasting Renteria after we lose our 100th game but so far the Sox at least look like a big league team, not the clown squad of the past four seasons. AVI baby!
  8. This is why the Sox should have tried it without a clown like Robin managing. We would have never had to rebuild. We had some decent teams on paper in the Robin era and sucked. This team's roster is a joke and the Sox are playing good baseball because we have a good manager to go with Coop.
  9. No need to slide into first. It's proven it takes longer for u to slide than run thru the bag.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 02:21 AM) Looked like he got turned around and was backpedaling as the wind caught it Good point, El Rockin.
  11. I'm surprised Leury crashed into the wall there. He had a step or two to play with.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 02:10 AM) Let's hope Leury Garcia and Davidson start getting rewarded with more playing time until they force the manager to take them out when they cool down. There's just zero need to run Asche and May out there unless you're deliberately trying to lose. At this point, with the AL Central looking as bad as it does, it's going to be difficult to get to 90+ losses. Obviously KC SHOULD warm up offensively (eventually), we caught them at the perfect moment, but MN still has pitching issues and KC has concerns with nearly every part of their team except Herrera, Duffy, Kennedy, Cain, Perez and Moustakas. I'd rather see a pitcher bat than Asche or May. I despise Asche. Nobody could hate May, u just feel sorry for his ineptness.
  13. This is one of those games where u wonder why players can't stroke balls in the gaps all the time rather than do what they usually do. Duffy's not a bad pitcher and it's gap heaven.
  14. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 02:12 AM) Deliberate? Maybe payback for hitting Cain. Obviously deliberate. The Royals don't take s***, especially from our Sox. With two out I'd hit Hosmer here.
  15. The Sox have a lousy team and still easily could lose this game. The team still could lose 105-110 games. But I will say this. It's nice to have a real manager. I bet we wouldn't have had to go through this rebuild if we had Renteria instead of the clown prince of baseball managing us the last five years. Robin was a GREAT player, but our team was a.) lifeless. b.) fundamentally horrid. c.) ridiculously bad on the basepaths under him. Again we got a guy thrown out on the basepaths tonight and Renteria is no Al Lopez obviously, but I betcha if Renteria had the Sox teams with Sale and Q and of the last few seasons instead of Robin we'd have won the division once or twice. Robin was that bad in terms of preparing the team in spring training.
  16. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 09:47 PM) Mods I'm actually serious about this. What's the line? Because I'm on my last of 3 strikes, over the 13 years I've been here, and I've been completely civil in the year I've been back because I enjoy this community and would like to remain apart of it. However, if this type of thing is allowed now, then I guess I don't need to be as conscious of my tone as I have been for the last year. Input would be appreciated. Because that all sounds like a personal attack. /snowflake I love Reddy and I forget if Reddy likes greg or is a greg hater. I think Reddy may like me.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) I don't think anyone compares to what the Sox can offer though. Power hitting infielder(Frazier), solid backup infielder(Saladino), good hitting outfield with some power(Melky), starting pitching (shields, Gonzalez, Holland), relief pitching (Swarzak, Jones), closer (Robertson) They are a garage full of options for a competing team Only Robertson has value of the guys you mentioned
  18. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 02:02 AM) http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/225...opicId=27118146 Say what you want about Benetti, but he is as enthusiastic about the White Sox and working for the organization as anyone. Hope he continues to be successful and has a solid career with the White Sox Here's a vote for Benetti. I love him. I worship Hawk but even I can't take many more of the games with the crabby version of Hawk. If he's happy I'm happy. If he's know it all Hawk and acting crabby, Stoney gets quiet and it's hard to listen to those games. Benetti forever! The happy Hawk forever! The crabby Hawk ... ugh.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 08:41 PM) Was going to ask you who you root for in these KC/Sox battles, but this made it clear. Seriously? Fathom knows I hate the Royals. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) Guy brings up the Royals in so many posts over the past couple years to the point where it is pretty obvious. I live here, yes I know their team just as Caulfield does. But to show you how much I don't like them, I don't want to be anywhere near Kauffman Stadium unless Chicago is playing KC. They do not interest me. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 12:47 AM) Davidson has the power Viciedo and Avi Garcia were supposed to have... Of course, two weeks from now he'll probably be hitting .212, but it's more interesting than watching Pedro Alvarez or Chris Carter I suppose. I wish we had Alvarez. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 01:27 AM) Good argument by Stoney for a balanced schedule. Did he say it's boring to play Cleveland, KC, Detroit and Minnie so many times. The Royals flak radio guy was selling the upcoming homestand over and over on the radio. They play Cleveland, Chicago and Minnie. Whoopie. Same opponents 19 times a season year after year. Boring. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 03:15 AM) Bullpen is absolutely unbelievable Swarzak and Khanle are completely dominating Sox bullpen has gotten off to good starts before then become amazingly bad. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 03:17 AM) I watched a full baseball game tonight and it was good. I know the Sox are in full mode rebuild, but it's still nice to see them win. Full mode rebuild? Seriously? Nice win tonight. Nice to beat the ROyals in a game played in a month besides September when it don't matter at all.
  20. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 07:51 PM) This game will be won 1-0 in 12 innings... and that one run will be unearned. KC and Sox are the two worst teams in mlb as far as run production is concerned. This could very well be a very boring series. Let's sweep KC!!! Last year, the Royals were struggling some then got well just about every time they faced the White Sox. I suspect that will happen again this season. Look for Hosmer to finally bust loose and maybe Gordon (unless Gordon is finished which is possible). But I expect Hosmer to rake this series and well as Moustakas and Perez. In fact, look for tonight's game to be something like 9-1 KC. Again ... they get well when they play the White Sox.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 05:50 AM) The only problem with doing that (it's a great opportunity to travel and see the world as well), is that once you start a "teacher track," then you have to work even harder to go back to the regular world. I actually did AmeriCorps/non-profit work for five years and just needed a break (or so I thought) from getting a bit burned out, and here I am 15 years later still teaching. But yeah, if you give yourself a set time frame, such as 2-3 years, and you teach something related to business/marketing/advertising/HR, then it might not disadvantage you as much. As the saying goes, it's MUCH easier to find another job once you already have one than for your permanent job to be looking for work. I've been in that situation, luckily...just once in my life, where you're caught between taking temp and less than your perfect/ideal job and then knowing that you're eating into your savings or creating debt for every day you're not working. It drove me crazy after just 2-3 months trying to figure out what to do, and I probably worked for half of that time period in temp jobs to have an income stream coming in. Of course, when you're working, even in a temp job, full-time, it doesn't give you much free time to search for a job if you're under pressure to perform in order to keep that temporary position on a week-to-week basis. My problem is that I started out working for a minor league baseball team and then an NFL football player's charity foundation, so it was especially hard to give up that "dream" type of job for a "regular" one, but I reached the conclusion at the time that working in professional sports was taking away my love for the game and also I was getting caught up in that materialistic lifestyle from being around athletes and celebrities and thinking I needed to spend money to fit in with them. Nice post. You are doing well. Jack Parkman says he's been looking for a job for five years and can't even get a retail job. This is where I'd like more facts to delve more into the Millenial thing. What does that mean looking for a job for five years? Does that mean just in one city, one suburb? Does it mean bugging your college admins to start helping you? Having your college advisor tell you how to get a f***ing job? Again, five years looking for a job? Does that mean applying every day? Does it mean only applying for jobs you are not gonna get? In five years you could get another degree. I realizes it costs money, but again, I don't know how anybody can look for a job for five years. Will the government give food stamps to a person who is actively seeking work for 5 years?
  22. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 04:11 AM) Guys, those who think that millenials are whiny entitled b****es have it all wrong. IMO it is the opposite. We're just looking for an opportunity to prove ourselves in any aspect. I have been trying to find a job for 5 years and can't even get a retail job, let alone one to support myself on. Companies will make any excuse not to hire a person 30 or younger, especially one who is down on their luck. I have gotten the following excuses for not hiring me: 1) "You're overqualified based on education" 2) "You don't have enough industry experience for this job" 3) You've been out of school too long" I have heard tons and tons of stories of those who have a college degree, even a tech degree, and can't find work for not months, but YEARS. I literally can't believe job postings where the title says ENTRY LEVEL on it but asks for 5+ years of experience or qualifications you can only get with at least 3 years of industry experience. What the guy said was right, that maybe 20-30% of people under 30 are going to be working. Literally, you have to be the best of the best in order to get hired now. If you have any flaw whatsoever, if there is any excuse that "business people" use to disqualify you from a job, they will use it. You have to be squeaky clean. Nothing going against you, god forbid you have a disability like I do. If it is this hard out there for the common twentysomething, how hard is it going to be for me, who has another hill to climb altogether? I feel a total and utter lack of control of any aspect of my life, because we are reaching a time when just wanting to work and working hard when you get there isn't enough anymore. You have to be incredibly driven, incredibly talented and incredibly disciplined in order to get anywhere. Otherwise you're going to be discarded from society, and viewed as a maggot or leech. I am of the belief that now, there aren't enough jobs period in this country for the population. Arguing over the potential for laziness or not wanting to do anything or entitlements is over. I really don't believe that people don't want to do anything ever, just want to hang out all day and do nothing productive. I've been there, and it is the most depressing thing ever. You have no value to anyone, and you question your very existence. We either need to solve the problem or face the collapse of our country. Jack, what is your field? You sound like a sharp guy. Cmon Soxtalk, let's get Jack a job. Jack, out of curiosity, you've been looking for five years. Where do you live? Are your parents freaked out? You might do what caulfield suggested and head overseas to teach a year or so just to end your slump. p.s. You said you can't even get a retail job. In five years, you couldn't get a retail job at all? No jobs whatsoever?
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) Anderson just can't hit fastballs. He looks like Josh Fields in his 2nd season His ceiling appears to be Alexei. Probably going to be much worse. He might consider choking up a bit. He takes that big hack like all the guys nowadays. .250 hitter at best since he wont take a walk; probably a .295 on base percentage guy. Not very good.
  24. How could you send Omar there? He hadn't even hit third base when the leftfielder got the ball? Stupid.
  25. I guess they hit Abreu cause he might get lucky and run into one and make it 4-1. No way we'll score with him on first, so I guess it was intentional.
