QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 06:23 PM) Out of all of the meaningless games the Sox play this season, this could be way up there. Now watch the Sox win big, and Shields throw a shutout. Must be nice to want the Sox to lose. I want a W and want the Blackhawks to rebound.

Parents Stuck With Their Kids
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 07:47 AM) I plan to teach my son that the path of a Gandhi, MLK, Mother Teresa or Obama is just as valid as being a billionaire business tycoon. In the end, our charities, churches/ministries and social justice warriors will be the only ones fighting for those made obsolete by this new economy. Below is one of the solutions Bernie Sanders has proposed... What is to be done? There is a possible solution to the economic challenge: universal basic income. Our economy still generates enormous wealth. The question is how to get that wealth to the people who need it. The answer might be to provide every American with an income sufficient to buy the basics -- food, clothing, shelter and modest pleasures such as recreation and a bit of travel. There are details to work out, such as how high to set the basic income level so as to cover everyone's needs without turning everyone into a lazy bum. But the concept is straightforward, and its implementation could be surprisingly easy, perhaps building upon the Social Security system. Moreover the cost is reasonable. Divide current total US personal income, around $13 trillion, by current population, around 320 million, and we get a universal basic income around $40,000 per person. Not bad. The harder problem is the psychological one and the attendant social and cultural problems. What happens to human nature in a world without work? Will we all become sloths? Or, freed from the need to work, might we find within ourselves a hidden Michelangelo, an unknown Patsy Cline or an undiscovered Maya Angelou? We might find out sooner than we think. Wow. That is a cool concept.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 02:18 AM) Yes I agree. It was really the obsolescence of "guys at desks" that started the decline. Gone are the days of the middle-management stooge, which probably represented tens of millions of Americans. And gone are the guys at factories forever. So now you have to officially be good at something. The gap between have and havenot is going to keep increasing and taxing the rich won't do a damn thing. Not one iota of one thing. Neither will blowharding about bringing jobs back. Get good at something or you're not getting a decent house and sending kids to school. I don't blame the Boomers. It was inevitable. The PC crowd, kids being babies, the global economy, automation etc. was inevitable. It sucks PC has to exist but dah well. All we can do is teach our kids to respect everybody the same and to never ever become a social justice warrior. Great post. Your take is a great one. You either officially are good at something or you are not getting a decent house and sending kids to school. Your take on middle management stooges being gone is also amazing. You hit the nail on the head. I'd say 7 out of every 10 people in the future will be doing fast food sales or nothing at all. Three of 10 will get good at something.

2017 Republican Thread
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) You can ask Penn State. I think they might have an example or lots. Because where do you put all of these bathrooms in large spaces like concert halls or movie theaters or sports stadiums. Here's another thought: if you have bathrooms open to all, then there are more people in them preventing less attacks because of the constant traffic. OR, if a woman or someone is being attacked, there's less of a stigma of "going into the (opposite sex) bathroom" to help. Just because there are separate bathrooms doesn't mean that stuff you have been talking about doesn't happen, by the way. If you don't like it, fine. That's your preference. You can go search out the family bathrooms, which are usually one person, and then get nasty looks from a mom of a 6 month old leaking out their diaper. Who cares if people are inconvenienced? We should go one at a time into all bathrooms even in stadiums. The liberal agenda wants to help out those people who identify as females but still have male body parts and want to go into the female bathroom. Fine. One at a time in all bathrooms. If it inconveniences anybody too bad. We have to cater to all people so the bathrooms must be reconstructed NOW.

2017 AL Central Catch all thread
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) Agreed. I like homers for game calls. It's annoying from the outside listening in but for fans of the team, that's what they should do. Man, I don't know about that. Even if you were a fan of the Royals, to hear every at bat them talk about how the guy may be hitting .155 but you know he's going to break out soon. Or if the guy is hitting .400 it's how focused and zoned in he is hitting everything hard. "You'll definitely want to come out to the park tomorrow. Danny Duffy is pitching and he is special. Tickets are available." I mean the announcers act like somebody in the front office is listening to every word and if the praise doesn't come or hyping ticket sales don't come out of their mouths they act like they'll be fired in between innings. I can't listen to it. It's just too pathetic.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/15/opinions/the...nion/index.html In the end, nearly everyone will be stuck with their kids due to robotics/automation. Trump won't be able to do a single thing about it. That's probably true. I mean 10 years ago who'd have thought I phones would rule us all. I could easily see in 10 years robots control everything. I think u are ahead of the curve here.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (ron883 @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) I don't think many people adore Hillary. But you are more of a simpleton, self admitted. You have admitted to not know the most about politics. Things are explained to you often but to know avail. You are easily swayed by propaganda that plays on your emotions. That is a big reason you feel why you do about her, realistically. Not a bad post even though you called me Forrest Gump basically as he was a simpleton. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 08:53 PM) Most people just go about their days trying to feed their families. There's really not much to fight for anymore- everyone has equal rights. America is better every year. Amen, brother. Though I don't know if we're better every single year. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 10:53 PM) You first mistakenly think I like Trump. i don't. I wanted Cruz. Second, i couldn't give two s***s that Hillary is a woman. So take YOUR biases and keep them to yourself. Trump may be evil, but he wasn't pretending to be a 'public servant' and out to help the every-man while doing it. He was chasing the almighty dollar., and rarely ever tried to pretend to be otherwise. Hillary, in her pretense of 'helping people' has done nothing but help herself with her foundations and various scandals. If someone was helped along the way, well, that was purely incidental. Ask Haiti how they like the Clintons. They don't. Read any of the insider books about her and them in general. Even if you discount the claims by half, she is just an evil woman who deserves nothing but scorn and contempt. American might be ready for a woman President. Not her. She should not have been elected simply because she was a woman, or because it was 'her time'. That is pure bulls***. You had thousands of woman who voted for her, and advocated for others to vote for her, simply because she had a vagina. How is that any worse than me not voting for her because she is a Clinton? it isn't. I love Alpha Dog even though I think he may hate me. Alpha Dog rocks.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) You don't play baseball games for the sole purpose of trading your players. Why don't we just enjoy baseball and root for the Sox for awhile Because the Sox have told us they've started this pathetic slow rebuild. So we have to take them at their word and tell Hahn he needs to trade David ASAP and he blew it by not dumping Q this past offseason. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) Based on your consistent commentary on the matter, you are obviously content with any form of baseball, winning or losing, as long as it has the White Sox stamp on it. That's fine for those who set the bar as low as you seemingly do, but for those who would like to return to the ranks of the winning, you should probably pull back on the criticism of those who don't share your willingness to tolerate the lack of winning of this franchise. That's a very nice way of telling El Rockin to shut up. Kidding. El Rockin you must remember is the best Sox fan alive. I'm serious. This guy sees the current product, wants it to win, roots for it to win and thinks its postseason bound. Hats off to El Rockin.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (ron883 @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) Did Hillary kick your dog or bang your girlfriend or something? I don't quite get why a lot of Trumpers think Hillary is the worst thing in the world, but Trump is alright. Dude is more evil than she is IMO. Has given a f*** about himself and his family, and only himself and his family (with the exception of the wives he cheats on) his whole life. I think it has to do with her being a woman honestly. I don't think all of them, and people like you, consciously dislike her because she is a woman. It's more of a subconscious thing. If Trump was a female and had 3 kids with 3 different guys, game over. If he was a female and said as much stupid s*** as he does, he would probably be deemed a bimbo like Palin. I'm not a Trumper but I don't think you want to hear why I despise Hillary. People claim they are tired of my repeating myself in my disdain for her.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 07:38 PM) If you go to your job Monday morning and they tell you that they are doing everything in their power to make sure you don't work there anymore is your focus and performance going to be the same? No, no it's not. I'd bet Q was watching out for trade rumors everyday just like all of us were. How could he not? It's funny how some players always are beloved and get the benefit of the doubt, like Q. And others are despised, like Avi. Q has been pathetic this year. It's just a fact. No malice, but face facts. Any team would be crazy to give up a haul for him. That's why you deal Robertson now, before he becomes human again.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 04:52 AM) Every once in a while I think about how Hillary has to wake up every day knowing she had the Presidency on a silver platter and lost to Donald f***ing Trump. Hahaha. And no I didn't vote for Trump. Good post. Her problem is she didn't simply let Bill run her campaigns. Uh, he had experience WINNING. He'd have gotten her finally to the finish line in first place. I know you all hate my Bernie references, but you Dems had it in the bag. But you couldn't get behind Bernie, mostly because, led by Hollywood and the Joy Behars and Ellen's and Oprah's of the world, Hillary had to be rewarded with the Oval Office. But the problem was she was unelectable unlike Bernie!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 04:24 AM) Greg, why not wait until there are more bidders in June/July? Supply and demand. Sure, the Mariners or Giants, etc., could use him, but they're not ready to overpay just two weeks into the season. Not to mention they have a good structure in terms of defined roles for now with Putnam pitching well again and Jones finding his old form. Because he's nasty, unhittable (right now). He's gonna have 7 blown saves by the all star break, you wait. Personally I'm not a rebuild guy. I'm saying IF THE SOX are serious about this rebuild crap, you deal him now. Some team can get him for the whole season and right now he looks like the greatest reliever of all time. We've seen this before. He is excellent. But he also will lose it. He blows a lot of saves traditionally and the blown saves are coming. So many teams need a closer. Trade him now for 4-5 prospects, 1-2 prize prospects.

Holiday Thread: Do u Recognize Easter as One?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 05:33 AM) 25% of GDP is based on late November through the first week or so of January. There would be a huge number of full-time and seasonal jobs lost. Goodbye to all but the top tier shopping malls in the country. This is probably it's own thread but I have really strong opinions on Christmas. Fact: Most people are not religious who are under the age of 50, maybe 60? Anybody who goes to church that is young is pretty much being dragged there. Yes there is a small silent group of people who have been touched by God or feel like they've been touched by God. There is a SMALL segment of people who believe. Anyhow, now comes Christmas. Let's say in a "normal" family, there are you and 3 siblings and let's say the three sibs have 2 kids apiece. Let's say you go to church every week and are very religious. Let's say each of your three siblings do not go to church. Let's say one is atheist and two aren't interested in God or possible existence of God. Now we have Christmas coming up. So with the majority of the family group strong nonbelievers, there is really nothing to "celebrate" on the day. So what it is, is Santa Claus and the celebration of Santa with each of the siblings' kids. That's it. GIFTS. Santa's gifts and your all's gifts to the kids. But now unless you have a grab bag (which everybody should have by gosh) there are also sibs buying gifts for each other. Many times they turn out to be exchanges of gift cards: Starbucks for Subway for Applebees, whatever. Again, the religious component is nonexistent. Half to 3/4s of the amount of relatives do not believe in God, do not want to go to church, but they want to gather together to give gifts and have a nice dinner party. It's absurd. Again ... this celebration of Santa has to end. That's all Christmas is. Helping the little kids get their gifts from Santa. My point is: Without a religious component, we need to just have a couple days a year we designate Celebrate Family Life Day. No Thanksgiving (religious component is thrown aside; how can we thank God when 3/4s of the family says there is no God?) No Christmas. No Easter. Fourth of July is OK. But please, let's get rid of Santa Claus Day. There is no fricking reason in the world to do this stressful, insane gift giving holiday. Now if we were all gathering to celebrate the birth of Christ, fine. But we're NOT. Even my Catholic religion: only 25 percent go to church anymore. Please, kill all holidays and change them to Family Appreciation Days. And those who do want to celebrate the relgious significance of this can go ahead and do so, by going to church that day as they do most Sundays. I'll still go to church and be with the regulars on Christmas and Thanksgiving to celebrate what we believe, but again just make them Family Appreciation Days.

Holiday Thread: Do u Recognize Easter as One?
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 02:28 AM) Surely you've explained to her that you hate Hillary, but also didn't vote for Trump. You're more of a Bernie/Jesse guy.... Easter's as much of a holiday as the rest. Family gets together, overeats, has some festivities. Everything about it screams holiday. The religion part is for the religious, just like Christmas. I feel like Christmas is out of control with the ridiculous gifting. It's jumped the shark and with people less religious than ever it's a horrific gift-fest in many (most) households. I know many of you hate the thought of anything religious, but we should just get rid of Christmas without the religious component. We don't need a fricking gift giving holiday/day. It's absurd and sick. As far as the sister screaming, it's pretty sad but it's like a drug addict. There's really nothing we can do til she hits rock bottom and perhaps wakes up herself. If you say anything to her she'll freak out and if you say anything to her kids and it gets back to her she will freak. We're talking meltdowns here. Very sad.

Nice blast by Davidson. Little worried about Hawk. That was a no brainer bomb and Hawk didn't react like it was a sure homer. Looks like Davidson has a clue at the plate. Hope he's for real and not like that guy that played third a couple seasons for us, that lefty from Wichita State I forget his name. Davidson baby! Oops just remembered Gillaspie.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
I was reading CNN story today on China having a pretty serious comment about this situation. China told us to not do anything drastic as our ships near North Korea. Meanwhile, North Korea says it has the capability to obliterate the US occupied sites in South Korea, including a presidential palace or something like that? North Korea has threatened us saying they will retaliate in war if we do anything like we did in Syria. The question is if we bomb North Korea does China start war with us? Lotta questions I know but my question to you is ... Is this serious or not? I would say, because of China's stance it is serious.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) For those of you who voted for him, how do you not constantly cringe whenever he speaks or tweets? I voted for GWB in 2000 because I was not interested in politics back then and chose him because my dad was a republican. As I started paying attention, I would often cringe and feel embarrassed that I voted for such a buffoon. I would hope that Trump supporters are equally, if not more, embarrassed. I just re-read this post. I had to smile at the word "buffoon." He was a buffoon. You know, I have to come to the realization I'm not a Republican anymore. Even though I technically am one, I haven't voted for any Republicans in a fricking long time. I wonder what the hell I am? I certainly ain't no democrat. But I never vote for my Repubs so what the hell am I? I despised Hillary so badly I am not near a Democrat, though I do worship Bernie so to speak. As far as voting for Trump, I wouldn't have voted for him if you threatened me with immediate death. Ditto Hillary.

We still do the secular holiday stuff like Christmas trees and presents and Easter egg hunts with our little one. Cool; thanx for sharing. Little kids love those hunts IMO. QUOTE (juddling @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 11:31 PM) We go to the inlaws every Easter. When their grandkids were younger there was Easter baskets and egg hunts ..Now just a nice dinner and cards/games afterwards. Nice. I remember when I was little my grandparents died for a game of Pinochle. Unfortunately I never took to the game very well but they always got a good game going.

Holiday Thread: Do u Recognize Easter as One?
Hey, I declined my family's offer to return to Chicago for Easter this year mainly because my sister has lost it at least temporarily and screams at relatives left and right and I didn't want to deal with it. But it got me to wondering. How many of you do Easter on Sunday? Go to relatives' houses or restaurants, etc? How many go to church, Mass or otherwise? Or do you ignore this one 'holiday?' I ask because my mom considers it a real holiday and is somewhat mad I am not returning to my beloved hometown for the big brunch. So do you do Easter or not? Do you dread it or love it? I will go to Mass tonight at 7:30 and again Easter Vigil on Sat night. I do enjoy the religious holiday but I like to keep it in my own way and not get yelled at by a troubled relative. Bless her, though. Hope she turns it around.
