April 23rd Game Thread: White Sox vs. Indians
greg775 replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 07:31 PM) Avi has 2 hits the last 6 games It was just a matter of time. Pitchers have such an advantage nowadays with the defensive shift. Also Avi will always be an easy out if the pitcher approaches his at bat the right way. If he can somehow hit .290 with 17 homers and 75 RBI he'll always have a job at least. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 06:11 AM) I'd quite happily give up a low-A player that isn't worth anything to trade for Zach Putnam if I'm a playoff team. I think you'll be quite surprised at the return for him. He's day-to-day. Relax. Cmon. You aren't going to get anything of note for Zach Putnam. Cmon now. -
Please be patient with me. Look, this team is already out of the race. Anybody with ANY knowledge of baseball at all knows this team is disgracefully horrible. So you mean to tell me there's NO WAY we can trade David now while he still can help a team (he always goes in slumps later on where he blows). So there's some 'unwritten rule' in baseball that forbids anybody from making a trade this early? Well that's ridiculous. If a team needs bullpen help it needs bullpen help and it can dump us 2-3 prospects now. So because of this unwritten baseball rule the Sox can't dump Robertson until later when his performance will dictate LESSER return than now. Ridiculous. And BTW this rebuild is silly because Melky and Frazier have absolutely zero value on the trade market. Nate has zero value. Holland, Shields, the guy we started tonight? Please. Zero value. I think Robertson is the only chip we have to trade. So trade him already. p.s. I'm assuming we have to wait to trade Q until he starts looking dominant again. His stuff has appeared blah so far this season.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 03:10 AM) Erin Moran - Actress known for playing Joanie Cunningham on Happy Days, 56 Sad. I've been reading about her. Had no money. Moved in with her elderly mother in law til mom in law kicked her out for partying too much. In reading about her though I did learn Don Most (Ralph Malph) is a successful jazz singer and Anson Williams (Potsie) has done OK directing. And of course Henry Winkler did OK and Ron Howard is a gazillionaire.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 04:42 AM) We will rebound No we won't. Team is built to LOSE. El Rockin even you have to be bored with this team. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 02:56 AM) You might be the only one in America to take that position. Independent voters, sure. Especially if they were voting today, having understood what Trump actually intended to do. Yeah, even Hillary probably would have won had they had a do-over a week after the election. Now I still wouldn't have voted for her but I'll concede she prolly would have won a do-over election. Bernie would have won the first time.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 02:42 AM) There are few if any Republicans who like Sanders. I'm Repub. and I would have voted for him.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 03:46 AM) Pretty sure it's 21 straight innings without multiple runners reaching base LOL. I truly believe there is at least one member of Soxtalk (former high school or college players?) who have more "upside" at the plate than poor May. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 03:46 AM) Well after the first 3 innings when I realized I wasn't that interested in the game, I went to the bar in RF and apparently, a lot of other people were uninterested as well. What was it like in the bar? Any mention of the team or the game? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 03:44 AM) Oh man, Konerko used to get trashed on a regular basis for his first halves. I remember when the big push was people wanting to trade him to the LA Dodgers for a young pitcher named Edwin Jackson. Speaking of very slow runners (Paulie), is it true Melky got thrown out at second on a ball he whacked over the rf's head the other day? That's pretty embarrassing if true.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 03:41 AM) I was there, pretty boring game. Nice 31k crowd though. Was there much complaining going on in the stands? Any laughter at the bad team on the field this year? Any mention of the alleged "rebuild" from the fans? Tell us bout the crowd's demeanor please. -
With Fred and Stevens doing well and Donovan doing well in OKC, shouldn't we expect a raid on college coaches in the near future? From the Big 12, you've got Shaka and Self. Doesn't Alford have NBA written all over him? And Ewing? And of course Collins and Manning and Kevin Ollie and don't laugh, maybe even Auriemma. Do u see college coaches heading to the NBA soon 'cause of the success of the past few who have made the move?
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 05:12 PM) There aren't many coaches in sports that truly know how to keep a team hungry that was been as successful as this franchise. I don't think it's time for Q to go, but maybe this was a wake up call for the organization, some bigger things need to change. Hopefully Q has a lifetime handshake contract. Arguably he's one of the greatest coaches in Chicago sports history, probably second behind Phil.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 01:49 AM) This is one thing that I still haven't figured out. People get so defensive over him like his name was Konerko or Buehrle. I don't get that. But he is a very solid hitter. He was figured out in that he's not the monster he was in 2014, but he is still nice to have in the lineup despite his slow starts. Konerko was not beloved on here unconditionally until he announced his retirement. I got in many an argument standing up for him. Buehrle had more support on this site but you'll still get it slammed back in your face if you suggest he's one of the best pitchers in Sox history.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 12:54 AM) There is about 30k here tonight. Too bad the luck of the rotation isn't providing an entertaining game. 30,000? Tip of the cap to Sox fans. They won't be back obviously. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 01:22 AM) oh boy did i !@#$ up.. doing mlb beat the streak and picked anderson because of his history against Carrasco. Never again At least you realize the error of your ways. He needs to be sent down until he learns patience at the plate. One walk every 100 at bats is not good nuff at this level. -

3 hits? Two by Saladino? This team has started its road to 110 losses (I know, call me Captain Obvious). Seriously, a lot of us have been Sox fans a long time. I can't remember (on paper) a worse lineup than this one ever. Check the record books. Even those teams in the 60s with the lower mound had better "on paper" hitters. Maybe you can find some teams tie this one but this one is as bad a lineup, as bad a team as any in Sox history "on paper." Before it's over I would suggest this team will get no hit multiple times. I'm SURE it will suffer more shutouts than any team in Sox history. At any rate, tickets should be available for free this summer or close to free on Stubhub. Maybe this is the summer I'll check out a game. Can anybody get me those expensive leisure club seats behind the plate (the ones where they have waitresses for food/drink) for 10-20 bucks at some point in late May or June or July. I'm serious. If you can, please PM me. I'm gonna take advantage of no traffic, no crowds and go to a game finally this summer. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) BTW I'm so completely sick of Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders’s strange behavior This board certainly has its whipping boys. Why the hell do Demos on here hate Bernie? I think it's cause we Republicans go so far as to say we like him and probably would have voted for him. I don't get it. Bernie is the opposite of evil.

Horrible incident on AA flight. What a great move by the male passenger getting involved and getting in the face of the flight attendant who made the woman cry and nearly hurt a baby. Glad to see the airlines getting called out a lot lately with these type of stories. Again, if it's United, Delta or AA, you are going to have a ton of incidents come to light. IMO they act like they are doing you a big favor in many instances letting you fly and the only airline of the big ones that is a halfway pleasant experience for the passenger is SWA. So there's no reason to just pile on United. Pile on all three: United, Delta and AA. Just the fact you can't use funds for future air travel on those airlines if you can't make a flight shows in itself how unappealing they are for the passenger. http://www.businessinsider.com/american-ai...th-buggy-2017-4 --This story could get its 15 minutes especially if that passenger who got involved is discovered and speaks to the media, etc. As well as the woman whose baby was in danger.

Smith is another guy wasting his time. He can't hit either.

Indians @ Sox, 7:10 Quintana vs Kluber

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 04:37 AM) Sox have scored 14 runs in their last seven games. They have scored a total of four runs for Q ALL SEASON. One run in his last three starts. They need to trade him right now before he loses his f***ing mind! Mark Typical dysfunctional White Sox, too. They scored 10 runs somehow in that one game and since have had hardly any offense at all. That was the night we were discussing how the Sox rarely if ever blow out an opposing team. This franchise blows. I just wish Jerry would sell it to somebody willing to spend some money. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:16 PM) How dare I hold the Great Bernie Sanders accountable in exactly the way he asks we hold our Democratic reps accountable. I don't get the longtime Democrats hatred of Bernie. The kids loved him and rightly so. He should be president right now. I'm firmly convinced if Hillary wanted to run one more time she'd be encouraged to do so again. The love of Hillary is baffling. Bernie was the Trump buster. He'd have won in a landslide.
-
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 01:35 AM) Well it is bad because a good Shields has a place on a contender in the second half They weren't going to get anything of note for Shields. He's finished.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 04:03 AM) It's also embarrassing that the Sox keep trotting him out as their starting centerfielder and still charge fans for major league tickets. No reason to go to a game this season for the baseball part of the equation. The food? Yes. But not to watch baseball unless you just want to watch certain stars on one or two opposing teams. -

This team should start dropping a ton of games from here on out. Horrific offense. Really the worst offense maybe in Sox history, certainly since the 60s. -
Anybody get the feeling we're gonna wake up one day to the mother of all international crises in North Korea?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-...UMGkKBkxSZIR.97 They have the Sox taking Louisville Prep OF Jordon Adell. Loaded with tools. Significant swing and miss issues though. 11. White Sox The White Sox would snap up Gore if he fell this far, but that’s unlikely. An infusion of pitching talent in offseason trades gives the Sox the flexibility to go back to one of their favored phyla of talent, toolsy prep outfielders such as Louisville prep toolshed Jordan Adell. Pick: Jordon Adell, of, Ballard HS, Louisville | LOL at the draftniks who want us to lose so we get this guy. Why not just trade for KC's Bubba Starling while you're at it.
