QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) He's despised, Greg. No other way to put it. Damn. I did not know that. I guess the extension he signed would put the Saluki administration in a bind if they wanted to try somebody new before his contract runs out. How's his recruiting for next season?

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 02:15 AM) Knox seems like a long shot, have you heard more? Know, just saw on zagsblog he was to visit Mizzou. If he thinks he's a one and done it'd be a nice 1-2 one and done punch with Porter and Knox to go with a couple pretty good MU players. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:11 AM) Seven hours since the last significant rainfall.........if it was raining at 5 and then poured thereafter ok but I was outside from1 until 8 and while it rained at no point was it even close to being cold and rainy enough to cancel the game. I am not certain what the white sox plan was but this was an epic failure. I don't want to see this horses*** team again this year so the voucher for my $105 ticket is worthless as was the $20 parking pass I got for the game. Again I understand weather is an issue but today after 2:00 was fine for a game this is a poorly run organization at this point. Very sad that the Sox seemingly went out of their way to anger loyal southsiders such as yourself. From the outside looking in it's almost like they not only want to lose as many games as possible, but draw as few fans as possible. Very strange. Smart people made a lot of mistakes on Monday. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Thanks white sox for downgrading my premium game seats to a non premium game seat. That's really inexcusable, except you do get to go to Opening Day if you want, right? QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 10:49 PM) Sox fans should want the Royals to be good this season. But we also want the Twins to be slightly better than the Sox. Please don't speak for Sox fans. I want the Royals to stink when they play the Sox at least. I'd like to go 13-6 against them. And I want the Sox to be better than the Twins as well. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 3, 2017 -> 11:32 PM) I worked from 3am to 12pm to catch this game. They could've called and rescheduled it over the weekend. Inexcusable Sad. I really truly feel the Sox brass should sign up for this board and contact people with stories such as yours. You are the type of fan they don't want to insult, or shouldn't want to. You should be personally contacted and given a special couple seats for a meaningless June game. Seriously. Why offend great fans like you? QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 12:21 AM) I'm so mad I started breaking my rule about never going to baseball in April last few years. Not only is the weather s***, but the whole stadium from security to vendors have no idea what's going on. Even if you get a half decent day you'll be in line for four innings. I'm done with opening day. This was an awful experience. Honestly felt used by the end of it. Again, I feel you should be personally contacted by the Sox. s***, there can't be that many Sox message boards. And the Sox should fricking care who their great fans are and make good with them. I read the thread last night and tons of you were calling for unplayable weather today. Shoulda postponed it at 9 a.m. or 8 a.m. -

This is not a big deal so don't consider this a serious Greg rant. I'm just saying a lot of posters last night KNEW this game would not be played. A lot of posters suggested the game be called early in the morning Monday. WTF are the Sox thinking? That's all. No huge deal, but yes I'd be moderately miffed if I lived in Chicago, took off work and headed to the park with family or friends. Again no big deal, but somebody needs to use common sense once in a while. I am not mean enough to think they wanted people in the park just to sell stuff. -
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) Real GMing in the MLB isn't like managing a team on your PlayStation where you can trade everyone in a day and get a rebuild done in a half hour. In real life, trades take time to develop and the fact that we traded 2 of our top 3 assets/best players this off-season, added nothing substantial in FA, and you STILL think the rebuild is fake. I was of the opinion we could have dumped Frazier, Robertson, Melky maybe, last season after the 23-10 start was deemed a mirage. But nothing happened and nothing happened offseason with them either. Hahn was quoted as saying they knew we weren't winning anything at an early date last year. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Who should we have spent money on to make this team a no-doubt contender? I'm forgetting the name of that catcher we were all talking about a month or so ago the Sox could have gotten. There were some bats available in free agency. s*** the Royals added Soler for nothing. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) (and yes, they need to get on with moving more players as only 3 have been moved and they can't abort it midstream like they did last time). So you agree with me partly. I'm not that dumb, folks.

How does Barry Hinson's team look for 2017-18? What's the opinion of Hinson in Saluki-land? I love watching his postgames on youtube. He has a way with words.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Porter is apparently recruiting hard for Mizzou, specifically Kevin Knox. Crazy how it turned around over night. With Knox and Porter and some of the decent players Mizzou has now, I'd expect MU to make the tournament next year. No reason Cuonzo can't get that team in the tourney. I haven't checked MU's noncon schedule. Porter and Knox are 2/5s of a starting lineup. Pretty impressive start for Cuonzo, if MU gets Knox. -
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 05:57 AM) Your approach is not sustainable and is the reason we have floundered for years. There is no magic trinkets that will put this team over the top. The fact that you look at the roster and think that we are only a few pieces from contending is laughable. Did you not read my post with specific reasons we could have contended?? Nobody's responding to my plan, which would have had the Sox with a fighting chance to win. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 05:59 AM) It's always vague bulls***, no specifics. It's just easier that way. No specifics? I went through the entire roster with my contending team. You guys are being unfair IMO.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 05:51 AM) Your approach to team building is that of someone playing checkers when the game is chess. My approach involves free agent spending. I think I can expect my team to do that when they charge huge dollars for parking, food and drink. Fans gotta spend; why not the owners??
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 05:39 AM) You're a gifted blusterer, I wasn't speaking specifically of your disbelief in the rebuild but more your mindset in general. You don't seem to seek out knowledge at all, you dont seem to know the specifics of any subject yet you spout (spew?) your opinions confidently regardless. Why are you so proud of your own ignorance? I'm honestly asking. You know absolutely zero about Luis Alexander Basabe and couldn't express a cogent thought regarding the handling of Carlos Rodon yet you speak so passionately about this team and its future, you know absolutely nothing yet you have such strong and extreme, emphasis on extreme, conviction, how? Did you read my previous post?
-
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 05:25 AM) You try to justify a decade of losing because you're losing sight of how the game has evolved. You literally know nothing about baseball ten years ago and yet the game has moved so far past you, everyone, even the skeptics, knows that whatever opinion they have, it's closer to reality than whatever nonsense you post. You're not a troll. Trolls craft bad posts to push posters buttons. You just don't know better. OK I know nothing about baseball. You tell me that the team I'm about to describe isn't a contender AFTER our trades. 1B-Abreu (star). 2B - Saladino (Moncada in May, star). SS - Anderson (budding star). 3B - Frazier (good defense; great power just like Abreu). When Moncada comes up, Saladino super infield sub. OF - Melky (serviceable); RF - Avi (still has a chance of excelling). CF - May (awful, maybe a free agent aquisition for outfield if our organization would fricking pay pay pay). DH - Coulda acquired one in offseason for $$. Catcher-Coulda signed a free agent to go with Narvaez for $$ Bullpen - Robertson closer (good). Setup guys - Hit or miss, coulda acquired one for $$ to add to the setup crew. Starters: Q, Rodon, Shields, Gonzalez, Holland. (Once one of the guys we got from the Nats is ready to fill in, not half bad). So how dumb am I? I contend our team could have been a contender this season even with the trades. Without the trades, even more a contender with Sale and Eaton. But it would have required spending a little bit of fricking cash for an outfielder, a DH and a catcher. Excuse me for thinking a big city team might wanna spend some cash in free agency.
-
Harry would actually read your name if you gave the guard a note with your name on it, acting like he knew you. he did not do that when broadcasting Cub games, just the Sox years. Hey ... Billy Jones and his buddies are here from Naperville; Kendrick Thomas and his friend Tim Miller are here from McCutty's bar. Pretty cool he'd say you were at the game on the air.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 04:06 AM) I'm confident you're not tolling, so I'm just curious why, in general you're so proud of being uninformed. You don't seem to know much about any of the topics in which you comment, why is this such a point of pride for you? If you somehow dont feel this is true, just know that it is and you reinforce it constantly. It's incredible that a grown ass man could be so ignorant yet confident in his conviction. I assume you mean my disbelief in the rebuild. We traded Sale and Eaton. And we got Tilson for Duke. That's it so far. And so many Sox fans have bought into the idea of a rebuild. Why am I uninformed? My take that we have enough veterans and enough talent still on the roster (assuming Moncada and at least one of the starters we got via trade are called up in May) that we could have just as easily PAID FOR a catcher and DH in free agency and maybe acquired one more reliable reliever to actually contend this season. Now I'm told it's good our team loses 100 or more games this season so we can get a damn draft pick. How much u wanna bet we take another starting pitcher in the draft and not some stud everyday player. You wait, our organization will fall in love with some arm somewhere. There are 1-2 posters who are also skeptical. I forget the one guy's name. And El Rockin still hasn't made his position. He seems to think every team we field has a chance to win. So what is your problem with my position on all this? That I want to know how people are going to act in game threads and watching games? Yes I wanna know what kind of losses everybody wants?? DO you want our starters to implode from the get-go in games or to lead and blow games late?
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 10:38 PM) Please stay away, your non-stop trolling is beyond tiresome... I'm a Sox fan. Pardon me if I am confused how to handle the upcoming season and wondering how members of this board are approaching games. Whether they are rooting for implosions late in games so we lose exciting games? Or ? QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) No, they don't. Why? I am curious about behavior in game threads. People on this board have made it clear they want losses. They are not saying what that really means in terms of actively rooting for L's or bad baseball or both?? Or just one? QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) But please, greg. I'll say it again. Stay away. Why would a lifelong White Sox fan want to stay away? QUOTE (ypres @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 11:29 PM) Greg is such a good troll. You mean, "Greg is such a good fan." QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 11:32 PM) And before Greg comes in with his bulls***, no one is happy they are going to be bad. It's about using just a tad of intellect, understanding the path they were on was NOT working and they finally seem to have a plan with a long term objective in mind. At least now they are trying to lose, and it's for a purpose. Well, I'm glad you are not happy they are going to be bad at least. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 12:57 AM) Sometimes you've got to go through hell before you get to heaven. My health keeps me from attending games, but I will be watching them on TV (as I always do). I hope so, but our team has already been bad during the Robin era and the end of the Ozzie era. Adding even worse seasons kind of bothers me. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 01:05 AM) But yeah, greg is a contrarian and we're all aware his opinions never make any sense. I want to win. I want the Sox to be great. That's all. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 01:13 AM) NO ONE LIKES TO LOSE GREG. WE WANT TO GET ON WITH THE REBUILD SO WE CAN WIN SOONER. s***TY HALF ASS HAS-BEEN ROYALS VETERANS WILL NEVER PRODUCE WINNING. YOUR WAY LOSES EVERY YEAR. I guess. Go Sox!

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 08:56 PM) Javier Baez played for the Cubs mid rebuild. Still waiting on you to bail. There will be a lot of boos in the Cell this year. There are a lot more fans like me than those who love Sabes and rebuilds. Fans like me will be staying away in droves once the team opens 1-10 and loses at an unprecedented rate. What is proper fan decorum this year? Cheer when the other team scores? And just observe our guys for potential trades? Or cheer for the Sox all the way til the late innings and then root for the other team to rally and win? Somebody needs to explain proper fan decorum this year considering losses are good.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 09:50 PM) I'm going to call you out for being happy in 3 years though. Your stance is absurd. If 2 years of losing and player procurement leads to a successful run from 2020-2026, how is that not worth it? You need to take a step back. Don't worry about the day to day. Track prospects. Pay attention to other aspects of the org. But yeah, if you just want to watch each game as a separate entity with no eye toward the future, you probably shouldn't follow the team this year. You can't call me out IF I stay a fan during the horrific rebuild. Now if I do leave and come back, then I deserve to be called out. My fear is prolonged 20 years of last place starting now. There are no guarantees in this "rebuild."
-
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 09:43 PM) And as young guys come up, the game will get exciting again. As usual, greg doesn't understand, but ask a Cub or Astro fan if their patience was worth it. I believe you will be rewarded for your loyalty. I think you guys have been fooled. Again, if Moncada is coming up in May, what's that all about? Are we rebuilding or not? So a team with him on it is going to suck for 3-4 years? That makes little sense if he's truly a star.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) You are going to hate the next two seasons I am interested in seeing how I react. I've paid close attention to every season for a long time. But losing game after game is probably going to be the end of my fandom unless I somehow consider all the losing comical. Since I'm not a draft guy, I don't trust our front office to draft the right guys so I don't care about the draft at all. I do have mlb.com again cause I forgot to cancel the automatic recharging. I do know I hate losing and I am expecting 110 or more losses.
-
Sox just dropped a fly ball. Yeah they are ready for the season. How in the world can fans fill the Cell for Opening Day if they know anything about this team?
-
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) If we lost that many games, our system had better be loaded. And regarding Abreu, if he wins "a couple of games", i'm fine with it. Moncada coming up in May will likely benefit from having Jose around. Moncada won't be up this season. That would be ridiculous if you are trying to lose 110 games. If he's ready for the bigs, then there's no reason we should be doing a rebuild, we should be tinkering and try to win if he's gonna be on the big league team from May on.
-
I picked 55 to 59 wins. The offense projects to be so bad I'd suggest our road record will be horrific. The starting pitching is not good so we'll lose our share of games very early. And our bullpen reeks so we'll blow 1/3 to 2/3 of the games we lead late. I think it's gonna be one of the worst teams the Sox have ever had. We'll know very early there is no hope of .500. Those of you who want to lose every game should demand we trade Abreu soon. He might win a few games by himself. He's our one good hitter. Trade him and that will take care of any aspect of the team being good.
-
Which of these (bad) options would you bat lead off?
greg775 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If you want to lose every game possible, it's May. I guarantee you he'd have been Robin's leadoff hitter. It actually should be Saladino IMO. -

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 02:44 AM) Good thing the front office knows better. That being said, you tend to think the opposite of everyone here, so it's hard to tell if you're being sarcastic. If this team wins more than 70 games, management is doing this incorrectly. No way they win more than 70. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 01:16 AM) Chisox are all in this season. I think we certainly can contend I can never tell if you are kidding. Sox lose 7-1.
