  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) He WON, didn't you hear? So we all get to just stand by and laugh at all of the terrible policies he is implying, protections he is removing, and the grift that is happening before our eyes! I feel like you are closed minded on this. Q: Would you ever ever praise Trump if he did something in your eyes that was good? Or would you bash him? I agree he's very unlikeable and I tend to disagree philosophically with the very rich who run the country, but I also defer to the zillions of Americans who thought he was the best choice. It seems to me you don't want him to do anything deemed as productive. The two party system IMO has become a detriment to America. More and more (I realize it's been this way for decades) one side hates the other and will not cooperate at all for a better America.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 05:29 AM) a failed, lame duck presidency which isn't particularly good for the country to waste four more years when we should be addressing the issues of health care, immigration, infrastructure rebuilding and the environment. Delaying for another four years our preparations for a high-tech, automated, globalized economy isn't going to alter the fact that a tsunami of change and disruption is coming down the pike. I thought he already had a health care plan rejected, is working on the wall, etc; is talking about giving more $$ for bridges and loves the military and will beef it up. He's helping the coal miners as he said he would. He's golfing, but also working it seems. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) True. The majority of voters want him as president... I mean, he got elected fair and square. See what he can do for 1.5 years at least. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) Worst administration in our lifetimes, but whatever, nothing we can do. There is nothing we can do except wait for him to get impeached if that is proper or watch him succeed/fail in traditional ways.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) For someone who b****ed about emails for an entire f***ing year you are so flippant about a president that is all but confirmed to be compromised by a hostile foreign power, has golfed every weekend save 2 since he has taken the oath, profits off his presidency, and has taken great strides to destroy education and the health of the very people he swore to protect. And before you highlight what I just said and give your canned "well that if he did that stuff he should be impeached" reply, save it. It's bulls***, everything this president stands for is bulls*** Look. He won. He won the election. We Americans elected him. Yes, contrary to some (not saying you), I lump myself in with all Americans including those who voted for Trump. I personally didn't vote for either of the two main candidates. But he won. He's president. Yes, I now take sort of a flippant attitude to all this. Let me put it this way. As somebody who is NOT following daily activities of the president closely at all, here's what I have noticed: Everything's negative. Everything I hear from people and media, etc., is negative. Negative, negative, negative. Now, obviously you could accuse me of the same against Obama and Hillary. Not really. I voted for fricking Obama the second time. I may have the first time, I forget. But Trump won. Nothing anybody can do about it, so I watch what happens helplessly and yes, at this time, humorously. Last time I looked, there's no election until 4 years from now, so in the meantime, lighten up for THERE IS NOTHING ANYBODY CAN DO ABOUT THIS except write letters, emails to your legislators, etc. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) LOL. Oh Greg. The current president criticized the former for golfing a handful of times. We are now footing the bill not only for his wife, who hates him, to live in NYC, but also for golf trips to HIS OWN golf courses. Instead of working he is promoting his own brands while offering regular people an opportunity to get close to him for an increased price. You see no problem with that of course, because well..... At this time, I don't see any problem with him golfing so much. That's all I'm saying. Golf is fun (for a lot of people; I'd rather bowl). As far as I'm concerned he can golf golf golf.
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) Sigh. Some of us actually want to accomplish things, learn, grow, collaborate, communicate and solve problems for the betterment of humanity, as opposed to making our own personal lives as easy as possible. Yes but even you here said they are unreasonable. That's why just agree with them and stroke their egos and let them feel like the special people they are. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) Don't. They're unreasonable and illogical. They don't deserve an audience, much like the extreme conservatives that are Trump supporters. I'm a conservative but i'm not going to engage with those people because they are too far gone. I don't want them in my party. You shouldn't want those people in yours either. Yeah but if you want them to remain friends just tell them they are right. They are so far gone as you say just tell them they are right and they are special. And if they blast you just say you deserve their wrath. No possible way to have a discussion so just agree.
  5. Not to remain totally negative, but a.) Sox are going to get no hit this season, maybe more than once. b.) I expect this to be our worst offensive team in the modern era. Those of you rooting for losses are gonna get them. Seriously, with our bullpen as bad as it is and our offense on track to be the worst in the AL, are we gonna lost 115 games? I think 100 losses is a given, how many more is the question.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) He's not. Welcome to March 2017. Thank goodness. Did we trade him?
  7. greg775 replied to kwill's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Studying his stats I see this guy has no power and doesn't walk much. He sounds like a player from the 1960s. No offense at all, good glove.
  8. QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) Throughout these months of the Resistance, I've run into this crazy phenomenon known as the raging progressive. A person who is so wrapped up in their victimhood and the righteousness of their fight, that they've made all straight white men the enemy - even those of us equally as progressive as they. I've found that there's literally no way to have a debate with these people regarding ANYTHING without it devolving into an angry attack at my white male privilege and my "fragility" - even when we're discussing something unrelated to politics. My question is.... how the f*** do you talk with these people? How do I debate or offer a tactical suggestion (ie: regarding the Resistance and how we fight rampant misogyny or bigotry)? What I don't understand is that for any of these issues to find success and progress, they'll NEED white men in their coalition! It's basic math! And this mindset is exactly why we have Trump in the first place, so why on EARTH are these people still so dead set against learning from their mistakes? But really this post is about how I can better approach these conversations where I ALREADY feel like I'm walking on eggshells, but no matter how much I defer and validate their positions, the second I voice my opinion I'm told to "sit down" because of my white male-ness... which... you know... I totally chose (hypocrisy much?). My approach isn't working... I need to find something that does. HALP. Great post. Easy answer. Obvious answer. Just agree with them. Just nod and let them say whatever they want and agree with them and tell them they are great. That's the solution to all conversations nowadays. Don't tell your true feelings. Just tell the person you are speaking with she/he is 100 percent correct on all issues and it's your privilege to know him/her. Life is too short to disagree with somebody like that. No reason to debate with them at all. Stroke their egos and compliment them incessantly as they've been complimented and praised their entire lives I'm sure.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) Trump workin' hard https://twitter.com/BraddJaffy/status/845654354308812801 The guy likes to golf. So do millions of Americans. Let him enjoy his four years. He won't be re-elected.
  10. This guy is still on our team? And we are rebuilding? LOL. Get rid of him ASAP please Mr. Hahn.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Nah we're good. You've disagreed with almost all posts for as long as I can remember. It's gets tiresome watching you argue almost everything/bringing in the Royals all the time. Fathom knows I hate the Royals
  12. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Mar 26, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) I'm shocked that some fans wanted the team to NOT rebuild. This was long over due. My only issue was letting Hahn and KW be in charge of it since they were the ones who essentially put the organization in this situation... It is what it is, Hahn finally got his wish-- let's see if he can work his magic with this potential Quintana deal. The rebuild is stupid. I know I'm retreading old greg statements here, but the Sox had chances to dump some of these guys last season and didn't do it. Guys like Robertson, Frazier and Melky. Now that's a rebuild. The Sox made a couple big trades and got the guy from the Cardinals in a little transaction. We've got all these veterans and we're not even trying to win this year. I've said a million times before if we had a smart front office all they needed to do was add a few pieces and see if we could win. The Sox are not the kind of franchise that tears it all down and rebuilds from scratch. Unfortunately we're in for a long long sub .500 drought. You rebuild lovers also trust our front office to make good deals. I LOVE southsider's posts on this alleged rebuild. Let him explain.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) And this is the exact downside to "blow it up". If it fails, we are talking years more of problems. Amen. Of course you are right. Blowing it up is not the right thing to do for the Sox franchise. There are other ways to rebuild. Like spend spend spend for proven players and make a few smart trades.
  14. I disagree with almost everything written in this thread by posters so I will refrain from commenting unless you really wanna hear my opinion. I'll spare you of it since I disagree with almost all posts nowadays during the alleged rebuild.
  15. This board is like America ... changing. So many people want cookie cutter announcers now and actually think Hawk is lousy. My gawd. Hawk does not speak in an annoying announcer voice. Same with Stoney. He is not a plastic announcer. He's real. I must admit I thought Benetti did a nice job last year and had a good rapport with Stone. Sox did a good job of picking Benetti who doesn't seem to be a corporate tool either. So in a nutshell, we've got people on this board wanting the Sox to lose every game. Check. We've got people who do not want to see our best prospects for a long long time on the big league team lest they be "rushed" and "flop like Beckham did." Check. Sad state of affairs. Give me Hawk. Give me rebuilds like the Yankees (spend spend spend and never be lousy!) Give me winning baseball not the crap the Sox have spewed out there in the Robin era.
  16. So it's 6 years 25 million? That's nothing, even if he is a bust. Hopefully he'll build on last season. He looked pretty amazing except for the penchant to swing at everything. If he doesn't learn to take a walk, does his upside look like .270 with 25 homers and 100 RBI per season? And a bad on base percentage? If he does learn to take a walk is he gonna be a HOF player?
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 04:14 AM) Hawk should have left years ago. Did Hawk really say he's quitting? He is the best. Period.
  18. How can anybody who professes to be a Sox fan criticize Hawk Harrelson?? He is an icon and I want him in the booth. HOWEVER I can see why he isn't up for the rebuild. Only doing road games is ridiculous. All the Sox do on the road is lose, lose, lose. And Hawk's schtick is being a homer.
  19. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 02:33 AM) Hawk is not stupid. He realizes this is going to be a train wreck of a team for at least the next 2 seasons. It's not any fun being a announcer for a team thats going to lose 100 games a year for the next couple of seasons. He's not meant to broadcast games for a team that is going nowhere. There will be so many meaningless games the next 5-10 seasons. His heart can't be in it, especially doing only road games. The Sox might not even have a winning road trip period in the next 5 seasons. He'll be Mr. Grouch broadcasting meaningless ballgames IMO.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) Yes Greg. The best thing for this franchise moving forward is to lose a s***load of baseball games this year. Rick Hahn wants to lose 100 games. So does Kenny Williams. It's the whole point of doing this. The way to rebuild is to spend, spend, spend. Three to five years of being terrible will turn the Sox franchise into irrelevance in Chicago possibly forever. Sell the team, Jerry.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 14, 2017 -> 06:16 AM) Never go full Greg. You aren't concerned? Let's say opening day Frazier hits a three run homer to put us up late and Robertson gets a save by striking out the side. How sad to read ... "GOOD now we can trade Frazier especially if he can hit 20 home runs by June 10!" "GOOD, Robertson looks good this year. We can surely move him soon!!" Ugh. Me thinks you won't have greg around much this season to all your delights. Our announcers should just copy the fans' lead and talk incessantly about trades and needing to lose. "The pitch to Frazier ... you can put it on the board.... yes! This is gonna help build Frazier's trade value Stone Pony. You know if he keeps this up we could get 2-3 good prospects even though he's a free agent to be." Pony: "Amen Hawk. However it would be nice if the Sox found a way to lose this game. We don't need to be winning games. The draft is the important thing for this rebuild. Nice home run by Frazier, but I'd be OK with a bullpen implosion about now!"
  22. This thread is a perfect example of why the mods have to be concerned about the tone of this board this season. It seems to me every thread is going to turn into a "good, now we can move this guy" if a player does well; a player such as Saladino. There will be very annoying game threads with the posters wanting us to lose every game. Far be it from me to tell u how to run a message board. I know people get sick of me repeating themes such as Hillary sucks, Bernie baby, I want to win every game, the draftniks are ridiculous, etc. But Saladino is a very very very good hitter and I think a big leaguer. So if he makes the team and does well every thread is gonna be, "GOOD NOW WE CAN MOVE HIM." I implore the rebuildniks to calm down and re-assess their posts. Is this board really going to be calling for Frazier to be traded every time he hits a home run rather than celebrating the home run and possible victory? Me says YES. Don't like it.
  23. I think Sox would be a perfect fit for Vegas if Vegas built a new indoor stadium. Great uniforms to market, in fact the best uniforms in baseball. Have a billionaire owner and you'd have quite a match. Probably would take a while to build such a stadium.
  24. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) I don't call it a rebuild. I call it having one of the lowest if not lowest payroll in MLB. I fully expect the team to be sold after the 2018 season. It's much easier to sell a team with a low payroll and no long term contracts on the books. That's how I see this. If anybody thinks JR cares about anything else but money, I think they're misreading him entirely. I could be wrong. Time will tell. I'm in your corner on this. There's no reason to have that low a payroll when you are a big league franchise playing in Chicago. Very sad. At least tickets should be dirt cheap for the best seats on the secondary ticket market sites this year if anybody wants to see The Cell once or twice a summer despite the product.
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 03:03 AM) Alvarez signed a minor league deal with Baltimore. 2M base with 3.5M worth in incentives. Disgraceful that the Sox didn't offer a similar deal earlier since we need a DH badly.
