Finally a realistic look at our team instead of a rosy outlook when everybody is 0-0. Our defense assures us of no playoffs. The team would have to hit like crazy to make up for this defense. The formula remains defense and a great bullpen and we have neither. If we wind up somehow outslugging every team in baseball, my bad. But the Sox hitting has not been great of late and as this thread suggests the defense is horrific.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) The irony of the timing and your lack of self awareness is amazing. Well, the Trump camp attacking of a photographer today already is getting way more press than this Hillary incident. Watch the way the protestor was treated (yes hands were placed on her and she only had a sign) and tell me Cruz or Trump wouldn't have been lit up over this. Meanwhile, this photographer incident is exploding already. Photographer tackled during Trump rally. Albeit he shouldn't have been roughed up, but at some point somebody is going to point out we have a horrific stable of Presidential candidates. How bout Biden joining the race and Warren? Now?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 10:58 PM) Oh Greg.... I just don't see what he said that was so bad. Eaton's only problem is tweeting anything besides cliches to please all fans of all teams. Like "Boy I'm having fun in the sun at spring training!" Gosh oh gee I feel like if we play as well as we can we can do some great things this year!" QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 11:36 PM) Robin Ventura prefers players stay off social media (1/2): "Any time you get on twitter you’re going to get some backlash I don’t care ..." https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/704432244593545216 Robin Ventura on social media 2/2: " you say. ... It just never goes well, I don’t care what you say. So it’s just better to stay off it." https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/704432428287336449 Robin is 100 percent right. Unless you are willing to be a Trump and fight back you simply can't afford to Tweet anything remotely topical or deemed as controversial in this day and age. It's simply absurd the PC in today's world but it is what it is (see, I know my cliches). Kudos to Robin. He's 100 percent right.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) BTW if this was any politico besides Hillary it'd be all over the news ... still.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 09:10 PM) He is saying why does everything have to be divisive, which is exactly what taking the "get off my tv" position is doing back. Eaton said nothing more than "can't we all just get along". Exactly. He made a simple tweet. He did nothing wrong. That's one reason Trump winning wouldn't be so bad. This P.C. world is fricking ridiculous. Like that situation at Mizzou. Half that stuff was set up and caused by ACTIVISTS. No wonder Pinkel said the hell with it and got out. He's too old to put up with all this p.c. crap. Poor Eaton. So many celebrities have had careers ruined by little tweets. I don't blame him on this one except he was ridiculously stupid to not realize you can't say what you really think on "social media." He should have thought one thing, said that to his wife, then wrote, "You tell em, Chris Rock! I've always loved Chris Rock and he's great as usual tonight!"

That person paid to get in the event. Yes she was being rude, but Hillary kind of pulled rank on her. "Well if you let me talk ...." Talk about what? That person wanted her to answer her question. And she gets escorted out and if you watch, that person escorting her out was touching her shoulder. Don't touch me woulda been my response.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 20m20 minutes ago Adam Eaton was very apologetic about Oscars tweet last night: "I feel terrible. I truly do...It was a tweet to talk about equality..." (1/2) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 20m20 minutes ago Adam Eaton: "I apologize to anybody who was offended. I am not by any stretch of the imagination trying to downplay racism in this country." Public figures just can't post stuff and say anything on Twitter like many of you said. He said nothing wrong. Quite frankly if you are going to say 'anything' on Twitter except "we are taking it one game at a time" you probably need to be like Trump and just fire back with 'grow up, reread my Tweet; I meant what I said and I didn't say anything inflammatory. I love all people and they love me.' Boom, that's it. I feel sorry for Eaton. He didn't say anything wrong. He just shouldn't have used Twitter to begin with to say anything besides a sports cliche.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) http://www.salon.com/2016/02/25/im_not_a_s...ina_fundraiser/ You will enjoy this at least... Let's face it. Democrats on here can rip me all they want, but Hillary is just as awful a candidate as the Republicans are throwing out there. How come this isn't getting more attention? How come African Americans don't want to hear it about Hillary? Everybody's already made up their minds she's perfect in regard to issues regarding African Americans. This kid speaks up and this gets no attention at all. Look all I'm saying is Hillary is an awful candidate. Bernie is pretty bad himself if he wants only socialism. Cruz, Trump and Rubio obviously are horrific as well. Kasisch is the only possible candidate worth voting for IMO. But please agree with me that Hillary is as rotten as the rest.

Watched Cruz and Trump live on CNN this morning at airport. I will say Cruz was way better than he is in debates. He spoke in a voice I could listen to and made some good points about why he'd be better than Trump. Trump ... I can see why people want him to be president. He's just different. He's kind of a breath of fresh air. I saw the question about the white supremists supporting him. It was a dumb gotcha type question and Trump gave a great great answer. He said, 'I don't know David Duke; I do not recall ever meeting him. Listen, CNN can give me a list of all the organizations supporting me, I'll research them and get back to you what I think of them all.' He's getting roasted on twitter for it, but I think it was a fricking good answer. It came across good on TV, I'll tell u that.

Well, there's Michael Keaton on the stage of the Oscars ... again, as one of the pieces of a great movie. Just give him an Oscar for once! Birdman! Wow. This current movie on the scandal ... wow! Even fricking Beatlejuice!!! And Batman. I love Michael Keaton.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 01:44 AM) Clinton wins in a landslide in SC. 85% of the black vote. That's making for some..."interesting" takes from bernie backers tonight. His base really are their own worst enemy. The Clintons have it made. As you pointed out they have the black vote. Just like Barack had it, she's got it as much or perhaps even more. Bernie's beaten and once it's Hillary vs. Donald, Donald is gonna get smoked. I wonder if his ego will be able to handle a very very difficult task vs. Hillary. Is Donald in it for when the going gets tough? I know I constantly express my disdain for Hillary. Seriously though, could her advisers tell her to work on her delivery? Screaming into the mic is very annoying to me at least.

Sox Project Among Worst in Wins LOST to Garbage Players
greg775 replied to Eminor3rd's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That is what's been difficult watching the Sox the last several years. All the lousy players, the black holes. Beckham, Gillaspie, LaRoche, Flowers (as much as I loved him I concede he wasn't much), Viciedo, so many bad ballplayers getting a ton of at bats as well as fielding opps. Good thread. -
Watching Avi in the cage made me wonder something you might be able to answer for me. I would have started a new thread but it's kind of random/silly and people would probably jump me. I was wondering ... during the season and spring training, especially baseball teams need men to throw BP, extra BP, so many BP pitches to hitters. How do teams get this accomplished? You'd think if coaches throw BP every single day to 40 players or more, their arms would fall off. Seriously ... who throws all this BP during spring traning and the regular season. I can't imagine 50 year old coaches' arms being able to throw 50 to 70 mph fastballs to hitters all day/every day without their arms falling off. Do teams employ 50 college kids to throw BP or ???

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 11:11 PM) I mean it isn't like he posted in a thread asking for relationship advice or something. Amen. Let's cut to the chase. If he has sex with her and daddy finds out, daddy will likely be incensed. We're talking real world here. Most every involved dad is going to FREAK if his daughter, who is in high school, is intimate with a 25-year-old. It has nothing to do with what type of person the 25 year old is. Americans are definitely hung up on age in regards to relationships. In this case, however, it's high school aged woman we're talking about being matched with a person old enough to be out of college by two years and that makes it improper in the eyes of MOST all Americans. Some daddys would greet the guy at the door with the proverbial shotgun. in the Married With Children reruns I think of what Al Bundy would do. BOOM head slam into the wall.

Tony is a wise man. Heed his advice.

Free college IMO is actually a good idea. But I guess it's socialist so it can't be accomplished.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) Hillary has been bleeding support from young people and the disaffected whites who in large majorities voted for her over Obama in 2008. Trump actually got around 40% from Hispanics, women and evangelicals in NV, which is kind of amazing when you consider his comments on Mexicans, immigration, border walls and the Pope. Otoh, 20% more of the voters in NV were mad/angry with their government compared to the first three states. Remember, the Bundys are from there. Cruz has to win TX. Kasich is done. And Trump's way up on Rubio in his home state of Florida. At any rate, his attack on Rubio from here on out is simple..."Marco, you'd make a great VP but you're just not ready to be the top dog." And he can keep playing the card of the GOP and Priebus are being unfair, so he'll just go independent and make it impossible to beat Clinton or protect the SC nomination. That's a big risk to take, deliberately alienating him and having a repeat of 1964 with Goldwater. It's hard to believe the Republicans are so ill prepared nowadays for presidential elections they can't even nominate a VERY PRESIDENTIAL candidate. Mr. Kasisch is beloved in Ohio. He is classy and Presidential. And he's ... about out. Caulfield you must agree Kasisch was the guy the Republicans needed to get nominated as their candidate.

I've been reading Balta's posts about Republican platform of racism which makes me shake my head. But it got me to thinking about the Clinton's relationship with African American voters. It's the stuff of which landslides are made. Once Bernie is done and drops out, there's gonna be the biggest lovefest in political history regarding Hillary and how everybody (cept young women) love her. Folks, if it is she vs. Trump, Trump's head is going to explode over the coverage of the election. It's gonna be entertaining. Get ready for fireworks. If I'm posting too much about Hillary let me know. I just sense the biggest landslide in presidential election history coming up. Remember, once Bernie is out, the Democrats WILL rally from all nooks and crannies to sing her praises. That's why some of us call it a "coronation."

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) Yeah...no...hell no. I am an open minded person but I'm making the claim right now, under zero circumstances would I have an open mind. None. My only reaction would be that this guy is some looser that has had to stoop to this level to try and pick up a girl. Some might disagree with me and I hope to hell I never am put in this situation by my daughter but that is the reality and I'm just telling it like I see it and that is what I'd tell my daughter and I'd obviously probably at this point already be in trouble with my daughter (because she got to this point). Note: Chili, I'm not calling you out, you asked what people's opinions were and I'm just being straight with no filter. A dad really can't have an open mind in this situation for one reason -- she's in high school. Society says no way

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) All I am saying is that we shouldn't allow what our friends or coworkers think to determine who we decide makes us happy. Again, I think obeying the law is a good baseline. And while it may be a bit tough at the particular ages they are at because of what others might think, in two years, no one would think anything of them being together. It matters what her mom and dad think. She is barely legal, as they say, and still in high school for gosh sakes. Dating a 26 year old is a big deal. SHe still lives at home. This isn't like a 42-year-old going out with a 26 year old who has been out of school 3 years.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 05:25 AM) IMO, Rollins is in the drivers seat. If he hits .280 in spring training give him the job. Thing is, his presence is going to steal so many at bats from our young shortstops. HOpe we have a lot of split squad days.
-
I'd love some articles about which veterans reported fat and actually need to get with it during spring training to lose the pounds from Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners and loafing through the cold winter.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 21, 2016 -> 09:24 PM) Christ, how mant times do we have to read your anti-Hillary posts. WE GET IT, YOU HATE HER! I'm no fan of hers either but you are annoying me to the point of wanting to vote for her and hope she wins just to shut you up FFS. I'm trying to spark discussion, giving the pro Hillary types chances to tell me why she's not evil.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) But the sound advice is NOT to get serious with a high school student and start introducing her to his friends & family. The vast majority of people will judge him over it and for what? A good time for a few weeks/months? The odds of this turning into a serious relationship are incredibly small. The stain on his reputation (rightly or wrongly) will last much longer. Very good point. No matter how you slice the fact some 18 year olds are very mature, etc., this person is still in high school and like White Sox said, Chili will be judged by pretty much everybody he introduces her to. People are hung up on age in this country BIG TIME. I agree with some former football player who was saying once you hit 30, your age should be listed as 3. At 40 it should be listed as 4 and 50 it should be 5. There's not a lot of difference between 30 and 39 and 40 and 49, etc.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 21, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) Barring a major new finding with the e-mail scandal, it's back to normal again in the Democratic Party. Would have been a real test of her campaign staff if she managed to lose Nevada but more pragmatic voters won out in the end. She's also going to figure out why she's not doing very well with Hispanics going forward. Who wins between Trump and Rubio is basically the only compelling media storyline left to play out before the conventions. True, dat. It just doesn't seem like the public cares about the email thing. I keep hearing pundits say anybody else would be in jail by now over the email breaches of security, but she's leading a charmed life. The Republicans' only hope is if the FBI gets very aggressive and pissed off and demands accountability from Hillary as in formal charges being filed.
