QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 21, 2016 -> 07:48 AM) Now the Republicans have to get Kasich to drop out (with the possibility of the VP spot dangled for being a good soldier) and try to push the GOP establishment money and macine 100% behind Rubio. Carson's votes will (eventually) mostly go to Cruz and Trump...but he'll stay in at least through Super Tuesday in all likelihood. Finally, just keep arguing Cruz is another Santorum/Huckabee, doesn't have anyone of significance who wants to endorse or work with him and that he's too divisive because of his religious fundamentalism to win a national election. Rubio is pretty religious himself. Admittedly I haven't watched much of him but I watched his speech tonight in which he was as happy as if he placed first. And he mentioned God A LOT. I'd say several specific references including leaving the nomination in God's hands. I think it's Trump's time as they say, and with so many months before the election and him sure to anger everybody before it's over, I'd say Hillary's path to the White House is pretty easy. The Republicans need to develop a serious candidate to try to knock her out after four years cause IMO those four years are going to be very very grim. As far as the present, there's no way in hell Trump mania is going to last through Election Day. Sure he'll get the nomination, but he's going to implode, likely during his 1-1 debates with Hillary. His attacks on Hillary are going to seem excessively rude IMO.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) I asked her about prom, not because I wanted to go obviously, just because I was curious. She said she doesn't do any of that HS stuff and can't handle being around people who goes to school with. Chili none of my opinions on the matter have anything to do with you. I think you are cool. Are you worried about what her dad is gonna do/say if he finds out u are dating her?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 12:32 AM) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix...ling-the-truth/ Please pass this onto the RNC. They should just make one ad with this video sequence and play it over for the general election in every state one million times. I'm speechless. I'm cautious about Trump ever since reading that opinion piece on him by Leonard Pitts, but I cannot for the life of me see how anybody could ever justify voting for Hillary Clinton, especially after reading that. At this point, I'd take Bernie or Kasich and get 'em good Veep candidates and call it a day.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 05:04 AM) No, chili said she is in high school Wow. I don't think a 25 year old can be going out with a high school senior. That would mean prom date is a 25 year old. That's too old for a high schooler IMO.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 03:44 AM) Honest question shack, but if you had an 18 year old daughter in high school, would you want her dating a 25 year old? I guess I don't see how some arbitrary age requirement that it makes it legal also makes it morally acceptable. IMO, kids in high school are not adults. For an adult man to date or sleep with one is weird to me. I'm not going to call Joe some sort of monster or anything like it, but it definitely feels morally wrong to me and I wouldn't partake in such actions. And that's great to say "life is too short to worry what other people think", but people's perceptions can have long-term consequences. Unless this chick is his potential soul mate, being known as the 25 year old picking up high school chicks may have a negative impact in his social circle and for what gain? He wanted some feedback from the site and for the most part I think the responses have been pretty fair. And question for you Joe, but how did you meet this girl? I don't think we're sure she is in high school. She could be 18 and a freshman in college. If she's in high school and living at home I think we'd all agree society would look down upon this one. Like chisox said, bringing a bat to the door might be in order. It's a big difference if she's in college.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) I'll keep this brief and not go in to much detail, but.....how many years younger than a guy is "too young" would you surmise? Or is it probably more likely based on a sliding scale. Long story short, I am talking to a girl younger than me and while I feel weird about it, no one I work with seems to care. It's my family/friends that I worry about. I'm almost afraid to introduce her to them for fear they will question her age. For anyone who doesn't know my age, she's 18. How old would I be if I was too old for her? I'll hang up and listen. I'm not big on ageism in relationships. But age is so fricking important to the people who "judge" the appropriateness of relationships. I'd say if you are 30 or older most people would think you are taking advantage of an 18 year old. Maybe 29 going on 30 as well. If she is in high school at 18, if you are out of college most everybody would also judge you as doing something improper. I'd say if you are 30 or older, in this day and age, you'd be considered inappropriate by 95 percent of people out there.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 04:50 AM) No she didn't realize it. I just ignored her after that. It's been 5 years and she wants to get married within the next 2 and I just don't think I'm ready for that. On top of that, she wants to have kids before were 30 (we both just turned 24). I'm just not ready for all that right now and it's been 5 years, I do love and care about her, but it seems like we just want different things in our lives at this moment. It sucks. That is very tough. I feel for you because obviously you don't want what she wants and ultimately unless you give in, this is going to end with a breakup. And I would think she believes that she's found her husband when in reality she may have to start all over with somebody else again. Does she have a good job? Do you have a good job yet?
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 05:46 PM) How long were you dating? I'm kind of in the same boat that everything I do is critiqued. I've been dating my girlfriend for 5 years and she wants to move in after I graduate in May, but I really don't want to because I don't have a job lined up yet and no money for rent on a place. Just last week she said I was spreading mayonnaise on my sandwich wrong. I dropped the knife and walked out of the kitchen. Great job walking out of the kitchen! Did she realize she was out of line? Or did she simply ignore your awesome response? You can't let her move in with you until she is tested some more. If she keeps pulling s*** like that, she definitely deserves the boot. Life is too short to be with somebody who would critique how you put mayo on a sandwich.

Surprised nobody remembers the old corned beef sandwich grill and regular beef sandwich grill. They had em at old Comiskey and I think initially all the food moved over to the new Cell.

Northern Illinois University football game at USCF
greg775 replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 03:30 AM) Last September, Sun-Times writer Michael Sneed wrote that a NIU football game would be played in 2016: http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/7/71/9873...-cell-next-year But the NIU Athletic Director denied Michael Sneed's story at the time: http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2015/09/25/...-field/ao5jo3s/ Apparently he was wrong because today (February 16th) Crain's Chicago Business wrote that a NIU football game will happen at USCF, and the details will be announced tomorrow at an event: http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/201...at-u-s-cellular I bet Roger Bossard is happy that the football game will be scheduled after the baseball postseason is over. . Won't they tear up the beautiful grass? Why would they allow football at the Cell when Soldier Field has to be available for NIU? -
Does the Cell still have delicious corned beef and beef sandwiches off the grill?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) taxes, Greg. Tax the rich. That's how he pays for everything. You should know that by now. Has he said that though? I mean we're talking a LOT of money to pay for millions of college kids' tuitions per year. I'd assume books, too. Meghan McCain's America Now show tonight today said 70 percent of Millenials perfer socialism over Capitalism. What is going on? What are we teaching kids in history classes these days? Are Millenials really going to get rid of capitalism in 40 years or so when every one of the boomers are dead and long forgotten? I truly don't understand this. Millenials want everybody to make the same wage?? No rich; no poor; no middle class, just we all have the same paycheck? I tell you what. Most Boomers at least were raised by sane parents. The parents of the last 30 years or so have really done a piss poor job IMO teaching their kids what is up.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) if you don't mind, i will use your post. i did again, this morning. calling at 8:00 am cst. i got in and talked to the rep.... they said quote "it is not their fault that the st of LA charges more for their medical. they the ins companies the nat'l avg and it is my responsibility to pay the difference, even if i was retired". i have been retired since 99. yous guys who tried to help, many thanks. this is why i keep saying sox talk is the best...... Insurance reps piss me off. They do. I think it's the job that was described as tax collector in the Bible. Tax collectors were the dregs of society. How can these insurance representatives live with themselves. You just know they are told to never accept a claim without trying to stick it to the consumer. Pisses me off that I always get something rejected especially with dental insurance when I have work done.

Has Bernie said how we are going to pay for free college education? I think it's kind of a cool idea that a college education would be free as long as you maintain a C average or C-minus. But has he said how we'll pay for it? I kinda like the idea. A lot of kids do get bachelors degrees and to be 200,000 in debt with designs on being a teacher is horrible.

How can any Republicans dismiss Obama's likely pick of Srinivasan when it was 92-0 vote for him to land his current position? He's worked for Republicans as well as Democrats. The guy is a slam dunk choice and no way the Republicans can/should block him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) http://www.thenation.com/article/hillary-c...-peoples-votes/ This article is going to be hard for her to counter...and while it happened under Bill's watch, they were essentially a co-presidency in many respects. She can't start screaming billionaires because if you add up the Clinton Foundation coffers, that's what she will be labelled as well...and there's not many in the charity field who can identify clearly any of their accomplishments since that Harlem office was opened. If she loses Nevada, it's going to be hard to convince Democratic leadership she's not seriously wounded as a viable candidate. All the union and Hispanic votes were supposedly in her pocket. She was for the crime bill her husband signed, now against. For DOMA, then against. For a plethora of trade pacts, then against. For bank deregulation, now against. No decision for the longest time on Keystone until oil prices cratered. No record of her actually doing anything substantive about the mortgage crisis. For the Iraq War, now against. Notice a pattern? After 24 years, the one overriding principle is trying to hold onto power by whatever means are at her disposal. The way things are right now, candidates wrapping themselves around either Obama or GW Bush (outside of SC and Texas) should rethink that position quickly. Caulfield writes all the reasons Hillary is a lousy choice and still crickets from "most" Hillary supporters. That long post that defended Hillary was nice to read and educational and I respect that post too. As far as that article ... I wish people would take the time to read it. Evidence is out there that she is a sham regarding her helping African Americans. Will anybody read it in African American communities? Does anybody care to end the perception Hillary is best friend to African Americans' prosperity?

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) I cannot imagine that Kasich would ever join on as Trump's VP, especially after all the things he has said about Trump's lack of qualifications, demeanor and ability to be president. The more I read, the more I don't understand how Kasich is not the person the people want to be the Republican candidate. The people of Ohio love him. And he's done a helluva job there. How bout a Kasich/Carson ticket?? Looks great to me.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 03:54 AM) The problems with Hillary... 2) She has an inspirational factor of zero. Speeches and debates, just not her strength. Very few actually like her...I'd even argue more voters passionately like Trump than Hillary, although she's not nearly as universally hated, either. What has she actually accomplished in all of her time as a public servant? Her resume is Rubio-esque as a senator. My biggest concern is that it feels like the Clintons have learned nothing at all from 2008...clearly misreading the electorate both times, and by a wide margin. It feels their time has come and gone. Excellent post. You have captured my stance on Hillary. Regarding point No. 2, Bill Clinton had so much charisma. He actually still has it. Hillary has no charisma. You either have it or you don't. I can't prove this, but I suspect Bill knows Hillary Clinton is no Bill Clinton as far as being an effective speaker/politician. Saturday Night Live has a winner in Kate McKinnon, who captures her in such a funny and almost sad way. Hope they keep it up. They know they have a winner and whoever is writing the Hillary skits is dead on every week. The Bernie skits, by contrast, are not funny. It's not enough to get Larry David to sound exactly like him. Give me some funny lines, SNL.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) I support Hillary. There are some posters here who I will take out the time to write a post on my thoughts because it will be a part of an interesting discussion. If one of them ask I may write one. That's pretty much what I hear from all Hillary supporters. I just support her, dammit. Truthfully I think most who support Hillary either are doing so because they would never ever vote Republican and the other democrat candidate is kind of off the wall bizarre. Good luck to Hillary supporters as she will be continuing her fight to stay out of jail. Her email situation/FBI may be in the news for a long time until it culminates in formal charges?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 11:19 PM) Internet dancing on his grave. Very sad. A human being has died, Internetworld. I know you don't care. But a good person is dead. Let's talk about him, not his replacement.

Good debate tonight. Kasisch seemed most presidential IMO. Donald was on rinse, repeat with his insults and generalities about how everybody loves him. Cruz and Rubio? Like my criticism of Hillary, they just don't have "it." Jeb is dopey. I really like Carson. He's a more sane version of Trump. Outsider who wants to save the economy but won't insult people. It will be amusing to see Donald vs. Hillary. He's going to go on the attack, blasting her mercilessly.
-
Glad to see SNL mock Hillary on its opening skit tonight. The young women of today really are embarrassing Hillary with their disdain for her and for people like Steinem telling 'em they owe it to all women to vote for Hillary. Really? I'm really enjoying the crickets when I ask people why they support Hillary. "Just because." "It's the right thing to do." Oh really? A person still in hot water over those emails. Just nominate Bernie, Democrats. Just do it.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) Can you explain to me how Obama was a disaster of a president? Just off the top of my head: Took on a s***ty economy because of a mistake of a War by the previous president, 5% unemployment currently, gas is cheap, Caught Bin Laden (if you care about that), legalized gay marriage, health care costs have risen at the slowest rates in decades. I don't know if he's one of the best presidents ever but if you think it's a "disaster" you're either racist or very uninformed. Sure. Obamacare is a ridiculous disaster and health care in America still blows. His presidency has been the personification of unable to lead, unable to get anything through Congress, unable to work with Congress. Am I worse off now than when he took over? Gosh yes. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) Don't feed the troll. As much as I contribute to discussion on here, I'm getting offended by being called a troll.

Hillary apparently won tonight's debate. Congratulations to her since she congratulated Bernie for his win in New Hampshire. Today the Clinton foundation was subpoenaed ... yet everybody is saying it's not Hillary under fire for anything there. Hillary's emails under siege ... yet everybody is convinced she's done no wrong, broken no laws. Where there's smoke there's fire, folks. Can you imagine if she wins the nomination and she gets indicted for a crime right before the real election? What then? To be fair ... on the other side can you imagine if Trump gets the nomination and says something so incredibly stupid right before the election even he can't make it go away? This is why, folks, some people are thinking of running as Independents.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 11:32 PM) Well yeah, obviously it was an exaggeration. As a college bartender I'd like to think we were in the higher numbers comparatively and thats crazy, but if you start factoring in life after college (a decade or so) its not that far out of range. Is it true most bartenders could pick up the hottest girls in the bar near closing time?
