QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) greg, nobody likes Chelsea, so you don't have to worry about that. She has ZERO political skills, at least shown so far. Somehow the Clintons have got people willing to go to jail for them, but I don't see that kind of loyalty extending to the spawn of evil. Besides, if they extend the Federal probes into dealing of the Foundation, she could be in for some trouble herself. Alpha, it doesn't seem to matter chelsea has no politico skills yet. Donald Trump is running remember?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 25, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) greg, I know you just LOVE Hillary so much, thought you might enjoy this. http://nypost.com/2016/01/24/hillarys-team...erver-to-email/ Thank you for the great article! I missed that one. I have a question for the Hillary supporters ... why do you want this kind of behavior rewarded? She's a proven liar (this is not opinion but fact). If you have to have a Democrat in office, then for gosh sakes vote for Sanders. Let the Clinton's quietly go away finally. You may call Greg a moron, but Chelsea is also out there and if Hillary wins you just know Chelsea will be waiting in the wings in 8 years to run herself. No more.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:27 PM) Still doesn't make Cruz likeable. And therein lies the problem. How can you lead if nobody likes you or can get along with you? Obama hasn't worked well with GOP and vice-versa, but Cruz? Trump is pragmatic enough to shift with the political winds when it's advantageous. Cruz would just dig his heels in. Abraham Lincoln he's not. Interesting topic on likeability. As much as I'm now concerned about Trump, when he speaks he is kind of likeable IMO. Cruz ... oh my gosh, he's the definition of unlikeable. Ditto Hillary. Now Sanders .... he's sort of likeable IMO. I'd say we should have Sanders vs. Trump with somebody running as a third party. Can you say Jesse Ventura?

Glad Sox didn't get Cespedes. Avi is the least of our worries IMO. Shortstop is a bigger problem and catcher, 2B and 3B have to produce. I've been fooled about upgrades before. I want proof on the field and in the batters box.

For those who want to be educated more. Disgusting. Makes me so mad at people. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/21/us/flint...risis.html?_r=0

Folks, I know many despise me and/or think I'm an alarmist/nutjob, but this must be discussed and processed by all. The United States of America, the greatest country ever, knowingly has poisoned and (likely ruined lives) of hordes of people in Flint, Michigan, by knowingly drawing its water (since April of 2014) from a disgustingly polluted body of water. To save a few bucks, the government went from the beautiful water of the Great Lakes to some disgusting body of water and as a result babies have been poisoned, anybody dumb enough to drink the yellow water all these months has been poisoned. Heads must roll; people MUST be fired fast and furious and punished to the full extent of the law. Folks, this could be your town, city or municipality. Good clean water knowingly denied citizens of the USA to save a few bucks. We hear story after story in modern America that inflames and disgusts, but this truly I believe is the worst of all. Government officialls killing the people of Flint Michigan slowly and softly with disgusting water. I AM FURIOUS over this. The question is, are you? This is the human condition, the human spirit, the USA at stake here! The governor first must be fired, then fast and furious, fire everybody and prosecute.

So nobody has really answered the question. How will this infield defense rank in our own division in terms of first through fifth? Personally isn't it a big question mark? Abreu is not known for his defense; isn't Lawrie basically below average? Saladino is a total question mark and Frazier is average at best?? I'm not flaming, just asking. To me it seems the infield defense is a huge question mark.

QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:00 AM) Politics are boring time-waste, to be honest. As an idealist-optimist, hate having to go de-rigeur 'cynical' mode. btw GOP all-against-all Civil War predates 2008. The party borderline personality disorder, if not disassociated identity, haha Today performance is 3/4 of success. need certain special kind of candidate on Pres. level. need effortless liar. Democrats learned it the hard way with all the Hubert H. Humphreys, George McGoverns, Walter Mondales of the world getting steamrolled. Incidentally, contrary to the popular belief, Trump's a little too *honest*, too, you can tell how much of a bloody amateur he is. No filter; no professionals keeping him in check, it's part of the appeal, but hella risky. Honesty kills. Paul Ryan was honest in 2012: Medicare, Medicaid, SS needed reforming. There is a video clip taken backstage of Paul Ryan running into Bill Clinton. The "senior statesman" Clinton appeared to be patting Ryan on the back for his honesty & bold proposals. Setting partisanship aside. Almost as if passing the baton to the next generation... Uh, except for one problem: while Clinton was complimenting the younger Paul Ryan, you KNOW what Slick Willy was gleefully thinking in that moment: "Ryan, you dumb-f*ck, congratulations - you just lost Romney the election, hahaha!" Democrats eventually decided to grow up. Bill Clinton may be a textbook sociopath & a sex predator (when even freakin Christopher Hitchens can pick up the signs, whoa!), but there is no denying he's a brilliant politician/orator. The 2008 version of Obama, likewise = rockstar. that whole "post-racial, Centrist uniter" mask? Downright inspired! Who's the GOP chosen one? Marco Rubio? Wilts under pressure. Sounds phony even when he's telling the truth. Love-hate relationship with small Evian water-bottles. Too hawkish. Questionable personal finances. The wrong 'kind' of Hispanic. Scott Walker? Rick Perry? Jeb? All out of their depth intellectually. Puts to rest the cliche of governors automatically having a built-in advantage. (Yes, Reagan was a Gov., but at the time California by itself was something like the 5th largest, dynamic GDP in the world. Plus dealing with Hollywood international glamour, various major aerospace testing grounds & naval bases; partaking in massive Cold War era nuke drills? In a sense it's as if Reagan already had quasi Presidential experience even b4 taking office. Either way, he acted the part, literally.) It goes beyond individual candidates, tho. To my young generation, what's the ethos? What's the choice? -New Democrats: "free sh*t & lots of sex, yay!" -Repubs: "eat your vegetables & get off my lawn. Ba-ba-ba-Barbara Ann!!!" Now which one do you think the Millenials will instinctively/subconsciously gravitate to, huh? lmao! Personal responsibility, hard-work, sacrifice, patience blablabla - no thanks!........ weed, video games and/or sosh-media, riding the Chad-C*ck-Carousel, selfies, safe-spaces ------> now that's living ("Tinnnderrrr!") #digress . Caulfield, forget the flawed early polling: Bernie Sanders will get crushed by Donnie Honeybadger's throbbing mixed-metaphor in November. Even demographics won't help. Just as, say, that weird little cult-leader Ron Paul would have been eaten alive in the 2012 General Election (even by someone like Jim Webb or Martin O'Malley.) ---- Mail-bride status: 'ambilagus' -Turn-ons: shiny things, Krokodyl -Turn-offs: ugly people; judgmental looks; Americans beer-belly; Cialis. ---- . I read this but can't figure your conclusion. Who is the candidate the fun seeking millenials prefer? Are the young ones even going to bother to vote?

24/7 Wall Street: Sox 5th largest declining fanbase in sports
greg775 replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not surprising. Sox have been abysmal the last several years. And with this particularly bad fundamental baseball and boring offenses the past few seasons, no doubt people are losing interest. Sox had so many terrible performances the last couple seasons at the Cell. If you happened to see one of those stinkers, you probably have no intention of returning until the team starts contending again. I've said it before, but it has to be a tough sell for season tickets with the commisioner deciding that the Sox should play a majority of games against Minnesota, Cleveland, Detroit and KC. Ugh. Can you say, "been there; done that?" Just saying it's not surprising our attendance sucks. -
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) Greg, I'm asking you nicely, please stop with all the nicknames and the "Bernie baby!" Seriously. No problem. I'll stop at this exact moment.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:46 AM) Catcher is a black hole? You still can't comprehend how little catchers hit can you. Our two catchers will remind nobody of Johnny Bench, that is for sure.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:44 AM) When I saw him at spring training he was fine. Polite, signed balls, generally seemed to enjoy talking to the fans. I just think he's a grumpy old man who probably feels he doesn't have to suffer any fools given his standing with the ORG. As I keep saying, the ORG has gone pretty stale and guys are way too comfie in their seats. Including Cooper IMO. Good post. I think you hit it on the head. He doesn't suffer fools, well, or people he perceives to be a fool. That's OK. It's kind of funny to hear him be the grumpy ol man on the radio.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 04:32 AM) It would be hysterical if the Sox signed him to a 3 year contract. There's no way in hell, I repeat, Cespedes is going to take a 3 year deal in an offseason when all the "stars" are getting five minimum. No fricking way. We do need him, though. Only way ss and catcher can remain black holes in the lineup is if we add another monster bat (on paper). Plus Melky and LaRoche need to bounce back and Eaton needs to hit better from Day One and not wait 2 months, but that's another topic.
-
If we get Cespedes we have to deal Avi or Melky. I'm not a big fan of the Melk-ster. Trade him. Have outfield of Cespedes, Eaton and Avi and get a middle reliever for Melky?? We probably could use Cespedes' presence in the lineup.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 01:13 AM) Cooper's public persona is awful however. He's really not doing the club any favors dissing the fans. You never, ever, win as a franchise insulting the fans it doesn't matter if you're correct or justified you just cannot critique your fans it's not good practice. He's obviously one of those guys who just despise fans' second guessing. There's really nothing wrong with that EXCEPT he gets paid a lot of money to deal with fan criticism (the little there is). He needs to just shut up and coach. But I can see why he'd hate second guessing. Is he a total jerk in real life? Can anybody shed light on that or does he just hate media and opinionated fans?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 01:30 AM) More likely to hear from Chelsea Clinton in the future, but it seems her charisma and personality are closer to the mother than the father in this case...which isn't a great thing for winning elections. Excellent post. I TRULY believe if Hilly wins, Chelsea will succeed her 8 years later. Hilly winning DEFINITELY paves the way for Chelsea. Please stop this Hillary silliness, America. QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 01:57 AM) LOL, take a deep breath, Senor Greg, and please grow a spine. Trump's in like Flynn. Since June. (The only thing stopping him is his virtually non-existent ground-game; Donald honestly didn't expect to be in this position this late, hence why he's thrown nickels around like manhole covers, as old-timers liked to say. It takes years to built up the required infrastructure, recruit army of volunteers & cultivate relationships with various local power-brokers.... Whereas the Soros GOTV Machine is absolutely legendary; poor Mittens!) Irregardlessly, there is no reason for you to change your entire worldview & personal feelings on a dime - just because of some irrelevant dafuq-bloggery of Lenny Pitts, or the 'Washed-Up White Witch of Weiseltier', et al. Have some self-respect. Seriously. It's all house-money, anyway: GOP as a viable political movement, was pronounced dead circa 2006-2008. Obama's Veep in '08 could have been Bin Laden; McCain had no chance from mid-Sep. onward IIRC. Outlook beyond grim. Made all the worse by the fact that while the New Democrats play in ruthless big-leagues; rally their warring factions, rainbow coalition around the Consensus candidate... Republicans find themselves torn apart by the whopping 5-way (five, Carl!) intra-party Civil War: -Neo-Cons VERSUS -Ron Paul Libertarians VERSUS -Christian-Evangelicals VERSUS -Moderate-Establishment VERSUS -(secular) Tea-Party Constitutionalists so it's a small miracle GOP even survived, haha ------> And yet with some luck, not only could the next POTUS come from your party, Greg, Congressional-supermajority is not out of the question, either. Obama/Clinton Horror-Show is a gift that keeps on giving. If RBG pancreas can hold on for a little while longer, 3-4 Supreme Court picks might be at play. Some serious stakes right there. PS. all the fashionable "Trump = only 3-to-5% of popular support" duh, derr, derrpity McDerp, that's been thrown around lately? Bwaa-ahahaha. --- np: Love your post. Remember I voted for Obama the second time so I don't know if I am a Republican still as you tagged me. Nice post, though, but Pitts' column seriously got me thinking there are comparisons between Trump and Hitler and that does scare me a bit. No question I despise Hilly, though. But I don't think I should support Donnie anymore. His legions of supporters seem a bit too dumb and too mean for the morals of the US of A. GO BERNIE BABY!

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 03:03 AM) I'm still hopeful that pretty much nobody actually votes for her when the time comes. Kind of like in Goldfinger when everybody at Ft. Knox wakes up. Her being president would be the most insanely idiotic thing our country has ever done (well that's Hawk Hyperbole). But yea it would be pretty messed up IMO as a functioning adult. I see Bernie is doing well with young, women voters who also despise Hillary. As one said, "I want a woman president, but want the right woman president." Older white women are just DYING to get Hillary elected and don't care about the issues. They want the women in there. Case closed.

I'm surprised all this TV money hasn't dried up. I guess people are willing to pay anything to get the premium stations. I thought advertisers had no money, however, and ad revenue was gonna dry up and even companies like ESPN were doing cost saving things. Will this money for sports be around forever? I guess probably so.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 17, 2016 -> 07:09 AM) Greg, it shouldn't require a Leonard Pitts album...we've been saying this for weeks. Cruz or any GOP candidate will lose NY and probably NJ. He knows that...it's political calculation. The point of his criticism (of NY values) is that it will play better in Iowa, NH and South Carolina...but especially for that all-important third primary. Trump used 9/11 wisely to fight back, and one of the best debaters in Harvard history should have anticipated that coming a mile away. Cruz will probably win Iowa, and god knows what will happen in NH. Trump loses all three states, it's going to be impossible to recover, despite all that national polls and surveys that have him leading by10-13 points. Makes sense. But I care not about them any more. I am wondering if Bernie Baby can beat out Hillary somehow.
-
OK so I read a great editorial today that admittedly made me a bit scared of Trump. Leonard Pitts effectively points out that Trump and his supporters can be compared to Hitler and his supporters in many ways. So yes, Trump and his fans do appear to be chumps. I guess in starting to love Donnie I just wanted somebody different, somebody who is a non-politico, somebody who doesn't speak politics-speak. But he and his asshole supporters who have threatened good people are kind of scary in their hatred and intolerance. Yes, I feel Trump is kind of just saying s*** to say s*** and doesn't mean half of it, but his supporters are probably dumb enough to believe it all and Trump probably has no business in the Oval Office where admittedly he can't do a lot of stuff on his own, but I guess could cause a nuclear war or something. So where does that leave me? I guess I'll have to hope beyond hope Bernie baby can beat Hillary out. I don't like that s*** Cruz said about New York. We can't elect a president so dumb he thinks it's a good idea to blast New Yorkers and their "values." Again, how dumb must Cruz be to think it a good idea to take a shot at folks in a city as big as New York?? I think it's one of the dumbest things a politican has ever said. "Hey New Yorkers, yeah you, the many millions of you .... your values suck!" is what he basically said. Truly imbecilic. I mean cmon, Cruz, when I think of NY I still think of the way the city came together on 9/11 and in the aftermath of that. For Cruz to go there? It's not just ignorant, but again, it's so dumb you HAVE to question his intelligence. So that leaves me with Bernie baby. Cmon Bernie, figure a way! p.s. To those of you who think I am the world's worst person I have reminded you in the past I voted for Obama last time. So I am not an automatic Republican guy. I did vote for Barack Obama the second time. Sure did. I could not stand Romney, who made me cringe as much as Hilly does. Again, I think Trump is lying a lot and would not implement as many controversial policies as he suggests, but his supporters are way out of line and it's not a good thing to rile up legions of unintelligent people. In other words, Pitts' comparisons to the rise of Hitler have indeed concerned me and I no longer am on the Trump bandwagon. GO BERNIE GO!!!! Here is the Pitts column http://www.wnd.com/2016/01/a-hitler-comparison-that-works/

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 16, 2016 -> 05:46 PM) i don't know, but i think Balt just screwed the pooch on this.... the deal will end when davis is what, 36-37 yrs old.... Teams generally regret all deals like this. Funny thing is the owners never had to pay this kind of money to players. But fans don't mind paying 30 bucks for parking and 10 for a dog n 10 more to wash it down so I guess all is good

Not trying to stir anything up, but you do a simple Google search on Clinton or Sanders and you see story after story that Bernie has a chance. Is this true? I like his policy plans and obviously I prefer him over Ms. Clinton, whom I despise. Seriously ... look it up. Pollsters say Bernie has a chance when the TV pundits scoff at even a suggestion that anybody but Ms. Clinton is a LOCK for the nomination and the presidency. So does Bernie have a chance??? Or not.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) It's house betting time! I challenge you to go back and see all my predictions: a vast majority were correct. Somebody even gave me credit for that.

Here's a good one. Would the Avi haters rather have had one year of Rios at 4-5 million or one of Avi at 2.1? Rios is still available I believe. I'd prefer Avi by far. I'm telling you, he's gonna get one more year of 400-600 at bats and this will be his last shot with the Sox obviously.
