The Republican Thread
I didn't know whether to put this in the Republican thread or Democratic thread. But when Democrats attack Trump for "sexism" this author makes a good point -- why has Bill Clinton been given a media pass for his predatory behavior toward a 22-year-old intern? Like Rand Paul said, it's not Hillary's fault, but this thing goes both ways. I truly don't understand the media's intent in going after Trump and never, ever blasting Hilly or Bill on anything. It's truly appalling. I mean like I've said in other threads, what does the media have to gain? It's not like Hillary is going to give them any special access or anything. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, Democratic presidents have been worse dealing with the media in office (regular press conferences) than the Repubs. https://www.yahoo.com/politics/trump-bill-c...-013313803.html

Favorite Christmas movies
I saw Scrooge with George C. Scott. I'll give him credit. He was a decent Scrooge. Still no Alastair Sim, though. It's amazing all the remakes of A Christmas Carol and the dialog is almost exactly the same in all of them. There's not much you can change unless you are spoofing it. Amazing plot.

Eaton posted 2nd highest AL CF OPS+ in 2014-15
Didn't Eaton really stink until we fell out of the race? Not ripping him, I sort of like the guy and his hustle, but I recall really despising him the first couple months at least. Hope he gets off to a sizzling start this year. Is his ceiling a poor man's Pete Rose?? Hustler who is going to learn how to get the key hit/walk at all times? Then on the other side of the spectrum his possible low would be Rowand after Rowand forgot how to hit (or got old, I forget why he suddenly started sucking)?

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 26, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) Things can change a lot in just a month. Half of the media still is refusing to believe Trump can win NH, South Carolina or Nevada, assuming Cruz wins Iowa. The closer the reality of him potentially becoming president hits, the harder it will get. Let's face it. None of the Republicans' candidates are worth a damn. Trump is the only one who anybody takes notice of. In this day and age, it's a 1 to 2 sentence soundbite is all that matters. Think of the candidates and what comes to mind from Republicans. Trump - "He's so outspoken. I can't explain it but I like him a lot." Carson - Snore. Florina - Snore. Cruz - Snore. Bush - Triple snore. You get my drift. I think Trump is a lock to get the nomination. A true lock. On the Demos side: I think Saturday Night Live writers and Kate McKinnon deserve some sort of award because unlike all the news channels, they have completely, perfectly satired Hilly. Watch this sketch and look at her eyes. McKinnon has the desperate-to-be-President Hilly perfectly satired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvSiH1eAF3s

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 25, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) As the country becomes more and more diversified; sans a huge attitude change, I don't really see Republicans winning the presidency anytime soon. Ted Cruz, Trump, and Rubio are not going to get you minority votes which you desperately need to win elections. Great point. I think you are right. This is a Democratic presidency for a long long time to come. Hillary simply can't lose and it'll be democrats for a long time to come.

Favorite Christmas movies
Since I'm visiting relatives in Chicago and TV is on a lot, what is your favorite Christmas movie ever? And which ones do you hate? a.) You can't go wrong with Christmas Vacation but it's best with the cuss words not edited out. Chevy was likeable and funny with his facial expressions back in the day. I'd have to think a lot of his stuff was ad libbed. b.) A Christmas Carol (with Alastair Sim): Excellent movie; a little serious for daytime watching. Better late at night when in a reflective mood. Most of the Christmas Carols suck, but this Scrooge is a great actor. c.) Christmas with the Krink's: Bad movie. Not funny for the most part. d.) It's a Wondy Life: Enough said. It's great. Jimmy Stewart is one of the great actors/americans of all time. e.) Miracle on 35th Street: It's OK. The Macy's Santa story is cute. f.) A Christmas Story: Kind of addictive once you start watching. Ralphie is a legend. The relationship between mom and pop is kind of cool in the movie when dad takes them to Chinese dinner. g.) White Christmas: Too dull for me. Bing is a cool name. h.) Scrooged: Never watched it all the way through. I suspect it's funny cause Murray is great. i.) Elf: Will Farrell is the greatest. j.) Best Christmas skit ever: Alec Baldwin as the consultant brought in to intimidate Santa's elves on SNL. k.) Home Alone. The stuff McAuley Culkin does to the thieves is pretty funny.

Alex Gordon Thread
Supposedly Gordon wants to stay in the Midwest badly. Can't blame him for that. It's all he's known and he's in his 30s now. It would be a shock if the Sox would pay what it takes to get a guy as old as Gordon, however. It doesn't make much sense considering the Sox history of getting older free agents who flop. I'd love his glove no matter what he hit, though. I can't imagine him wanting to play in KC that many times as a member of the Sox, but maybe he doesn't care about suddenly being the enemy.

The LaRoche article dug up from 2015
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) This is a real conundrum. Laroche is a gold glove 1Bman. Abreu has gotten better and to his credit works on his defense. Abreu would benefit from more time at DH to keep his legs in shape, but his physical health may be better each year. I don't know for sure and not certain we have heard much about that issue to completely explain his ankle, foot or leg issues. As part of other moves I can see Laroche going back to a NL team and Cabrera being the DH. But, you have to have those new pieces ready to be put in place. But, on the other hand Laroche is not going to just roll over because of a bad year. He is committed to improve in 2016. It could be real good for the Sox. Dunn didn't give up it's just that he struck out as much as he hit the ball it seemed even when he hit 40 homers. I guess that scenario could be Laroche also and it's just what you are prepared to accept with those homers, LaRoche is just too old to be productive anymore. Like you said, he can field, but Sox are committed to Abreu at first. LaRoche's fielding DOES NOT MATTER as long as he's with the Sox. One thing is for sure, if LaRoche EVER bats against a lefty, Robin is a fool. Automatic outs do not help you win and he's not getting any hits off lefties. If he puts the ball in play it's an easy out because of the shift and usually he'll not put it in play.

Alex Gordon Thread
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) No way 4 years gets it done. If anything it will be 5 years with a buyout. I believe you but that's ridiculous for a player like Gordon. Man, NFL teams have it made. They get to cut guys and those 8 year deals mean nothing. They don't have to pay up like baseball teams do. Think of all the guys the Sox would have just cut. LaRoche, Dunn, Melky, Rios.

could the White Sox steal chicago
Sox do always seem to get good offseason press. Is there any proof the Sox are intent on acqually replacing Avi in right? Or LaRoche at DH?

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 08:56 AM) The Republicans better nominate someone that has a bloody chance. Nobody has a chance. Say what you want about the Democrats, they know how to dominate Presidential elections. Hillary is a lock. Bernie is playing nice so he can be the VEEP. He'd actually be pretty perfect. People have heard of him and he's kind of boring. He'd fit in perfectly in that role of standing up for Hilly. I tell you, Obama is pretty likeable and he couldn't work with Congress. Good luck to Hillary. Those Repubs aren't going to want to help her out AT ALL.

Alex Gordon Thread
I'm guessing 15 million for four years would get it done for Gordon if there really isn't much of a market. If this guy can get five years, his agent is the best in the history of the world. He's too old for a five year deal. I bet the Royals don't go higher than 15. I bet Sox at 16 mill a year for four years with team option would get it done.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 07:09 AM) So he's a bigoted, ignorant, lunatic but since he's upfront about it it's fine? You are exaggerating. Bigoted? He employs people of all sexes and races. Ignorant? Hardly. What's wrong with keeping our enemies out? I for one don't want to be a victim of Isis when some Isis asshole busts into my movie theatre or sporting event. Yeah it's good he's outspoken and upfront. Like I said before, people like Hilly hide their real personalities. Trump is a brash rich f*** pretty much. But I'm willing to give him a shot over the same ol same ol. He is an American you know? He's patriotic.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 05:06 AM) For the love of God, can someone please ban this troll? What is your problem? Anything goes in the Filibuster. I'm sick of being called a troll BTW. I have never ever called anybody a name on here. I take hits all the time. It's like you are not allowed to call anybody names unless his name is Greg. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 05:13 AM) This is Hitler-speak right here, jesus f***ing christ. What do we have to lose voting in Trump? Everything. He feeds on people's fear and is openly admitting to wanting to take freedoms away from an entire following of a religion. That right there is Hitler 2.0, and it's not an exaggeration. He just might fix the economy and bring back some pride in America. Again, Hitler-speak. Hey he might bring some jobs back!! He's going to make Germany a proud nation again! But he's also going to bring in hate, fear and prejudice against a mass population...Ah those damn Muslims, without them we wouldn't have any problems in this down but great nation. America has not been this defeatest in a long long time. Greg, you are the largest defeatest on this entire site, and it's not even close. No money available for the little guy; all going to the top 2 percent. Sure this is partly right, so you want to elect a guy in the top 2% who acts terribly against those not in the 2%???? Hitler speak? Cmon. Trump is a successful American businessman, not Hitler for gosh sakes. Hitler speak? Cmon. That's pretty rude. Trump has made it big in America and maybe he'll get the economy turned around. You know a lot of people don't like Hilly's personality either. She may hide it better but it's been well documented what kind of person she is. Not pretty. Where there's smoke there's fire and people who have worked for Hilly despise Hilly. Don't act like she is a stellar person and Trump a total chump. As far as your final point about the 2 percent. How the heck do you know Trump wants to keep the little guy poor? Again ... his main competition, Hillary isn't exactly poor. Bottom line? Trump at least doesn't try to hide his brash personality. Hillary is just as brash. Have you read the stuff she's said to the lowly people who worked under her and to secret service agents? My current faves: 1.) Trump. 2.) Bernie. 3.) Carson.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 04:10 AM) Or the fact that only about 6 to 8% of the voting public is backing him. Roughly equivalent to the number who believe the moon landings were faked. Could be that too. What do we have to lose voting in Trump? Politics thoroughly sucks and he'd knock the political world on its butt. Presidents can't do much anyway. He just might fix the economy and bring back some pride in America. America has not been this defeatest in a long long time. People are down on everything right now except their own families. No money available for the little guy; all going to the top 2 percent. You think Hillary is gonna get us out of this malaise? Hillary? Give Trump a shot, folks.

Do you really know how your health insurance works?
All I know is whenever I send in a claim for anything -- dental, medical, vision they never pay squat. I assume our company, United, sucks. It's the one I get at work.

Alexei, Saladino, or another plan for SS
Alexei is a proven big leaguer. Give him a chance to be the anchor of this new infield. Saladino, sorry, he's not the answer. I'd accept him as a super sub however.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:08 PM) I should know better than to read these threads, nothing but unfounded negativity. I am absolutely fired up about this trade and there is more on the horizon. The Sox are gonna be nasty this season. Geez, it's not been that negative. Just because some of us question sending 3 big leaguers for 1 as possibly being an overpay doesn't mean we don't like the idea of Frazier. You must want 100 percent gung-ho-ism about this deal. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:09 PM) It's truly amazing to me how anyone could be down about this trade. Most who don't like it believe Trayce will turn into a superstar or that Frazier will turn into Josh Fields. Those 3 prospects we traded all will be in the big leagues this year. It's more than human nature to be a bit concerned about an NL slugger coming over to the AL. Not down about the trade, but not doing cartwheels. We've been there and been burned before.

The Democrat Thread
This is funny. Last night on CNN they said Obama had 40 percent approval rating, really low. Makes me laugh again because if he could run again he'd win in a landsllide. The liberal, Democrat media occasionally will mention how unpopular Obama is but oh my gosh when it was near election time, it was Obama mania all the time, every single day. Cmon, folks. If he could run again he'd win in such a landslide. This country is Obama-crazy and Hillary crazy and pure Democrat crazy.

NCAA basketball 2015-16 thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) There have been a few CBB writers that have called in to the Score that have said he did this so Gard would get it, and Alvarez isnt really too keen on giving it to Gard. He planned on retiring over the summer and letting Gard have it but Alvarez said he wanted to do a coaching search so Bo did this. Dont know how true it is, just what I have heard That's pretty cool if Bo is doing that for a guy he thinks can do the job. Barry seems like he'd be a pretty tough AD to work for and maybe Bo really is sticking it to him. Just speculation here.

Immediate reaction to Frazier trade
Wait and see. If Frazier hits 35 home runs and has a glove that isn't Gillaspie-like chances are very very good the Sox win the trade. Somebody makes a great point on here. We get Frazier two years. So it makes no sense to not try to win it now (even during the Royals' current window). That means Lexi should be signed at ss. He's a playoff caliber shortstop. And add Gordon or Upton (if that is really a possibility?) and this team with its pitching staff is a real contender. It'd be so much a contender Robin would have to be let go by May 15 if the Sox were six or more games out. But as far as the trade? We'll not know until we see if Frazier mashes on the SouthSide or sucks in the AL like LaRoche/Dunn.

Upton or Cespedes
I'd take a.) Gordon. b) Upton. c.) Ces.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) Yes they are fact. Trayce never hit well in the minors and wont in the majors. He's Brian Anderson with a much worse bat. Micah cannot field, never really has and has looked horrible. He also has health issues. Montas could be a nice setup guy though. You have two sub-level MLB guys maybe and a pen guy. LOL. Maybe I missed it. Has everybody been this down on Trayce? I'll leave this thread for a while and see what gets written before I get in trouble. I never thought I'd be portrayed as hating Frazier deal. I WANTED Frazier and got him. Now I want Lexi and infield will be amazing with defensive replacements/fill ins around in Saladino and/or Sanchez. An actual good bench.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) Are you sure you watched baseball? Everybody knows what Trayce and Micah were. Trayce was a guy with a big name and Micah was kind of a disappointment. and for the 400th time Major League Baseball Salary Cap Infinite Dollars "Everybody?" There's a good chance Trayce and Micah will be playing major roles on big league teams this season. I wanted Frazier. I got Frazier. But I don't know why I'm the bad guy for merely suggesting the Sox overpaid. Would you do the Shark trade all over again? I wouldn't. I'm not anti Sox or anti Frazier. I WANTED Frazier. I could be wrong. Maybe it took all 3 of those specific names to get Frazier. Why say without a doubt, unequivocally, this is the greatest thing to ever take place? I'm thrilled we got Frazier and the Lawrie/Frazier duo figure to spice up the offensive potential of the infield so much. Add Lexi and I'd buy season tickets if I lived in Chicago. It'd be worth the risk that the team is a contender (with bounceback years from Melky, LaRoche, the new catcher duo crucial to playoffs).

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) I highly disagree. Sox were going to offer Samardzija a huge extension before last season. Sox have 35 million coming off the books next season (LaRoche, Danks, Avila, Navarro), they can easily backload a deal to make it fit this season. Example, the SF Giants are paying Samardzija 8 million this year and 18+ after that. Well if Hahn talks Jerry into signing Gordon or Upton, very cool. I don't see it but if you are right, they will sell a TON of season tickets now. Frazier, Lawrie, Upton/Gordon to go with Abreu on paper are some big bats for the tiny Cell.
