QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) No one said you're getting kicked off... And Ozzie's WP% is lower than both Lasorda and Weaver. Weaver won the AL pennant 4 times and had many other 90+ win seasons. Ozzie does not figure to get another. No one figures to get another, that's an asinine assumption that just undervalues how hard it is to win a WS. That logic says Robin will win one, so the Sox should hold on to him until he does. Good point. It is very hard to win one. He is young though. I'd figure odds are relatively good if he manages 20 to 25 more years he'd get another one.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 06:36 AM) The first thing I think of Bobby is 2005. The second thing I think of Bobby was when he retired 41 straight (is that still a record?) (What year was it ? 08?) The third thing I think of Bobby was that damn game in Minnesota. Two of three are positive memories. Nice.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 06:37 AM) OZZIE IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING ARGUABLY BETTER THAN WEAVER AND LASORDA. Weaver won one for the Orioles, their second one in franchise history. He has a .583 win %. Lasorda has two titles, is in the HoF as a manager, and a .526 win %. While .526 isn't too great, he has two titles. And I feel bad for you because you're getting eviscerated and don't even realize it. I'm getting kicked off? That sucks. I tried to be a loyal poster. As far as winning percentages? See? Ozzie's was damn good as well. Over 50 percent. Ad Weaver only won one? Oz has one. Tommy has two? Oz figures to get another. He's in his 40s.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 06:24 AM) Because you weren't at that game in Minnesota. That was undoubtedly the worst feeling I've ever had as a Sox fan. Nothing compares. The first thing I think of with Bobby Jenks is 2005, and that was a hell of a ride. Shortly thereafter it's the downfall and how Ozzie kept throwing him out there even though he pretty obviously had nothing left. What do you want the manager to do? He was putting the team's CLOSER out there. Just like Ozzie is putting Heath Bell out there. You have to play the guys on the roster. Bobby had a nice career.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 04:25 AM) Bobby deserves a ton of credit for making it as far as he did. I really have nothing but good memories of him. Good deal.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:48 AM) If demanding a new contract in the middle of September and willingly negotiating with another team during September isn't quitting on the Sox, what is? Did he literally have to not show up to the park? I suppose that would've been Kenny's fault, or the gas prices were too high at the time. And please, NEVER use Ozzie in the same paragraph as Earl Weaver and Tommy Lasorda, unless you're listing reasons about how different they are as managers, as in, "Ozzie is dogs*** compared to Lasorda and Weaver." Please get over yourself. I'm 24 posts in and you annoy me already. There's a reason Ozzie was a .525 manager with the Sox and his current team sucks, but I suppose that's Miami management's fault. Getting Reyes, Buehrle, and Bell was horrible. RIIIIGHT. No, it didn't. He just doesn't like you. Bell is horrible. That is not Ozzie's fault. I don't even know how many WS titles Weaver and Tommy won, but arguably Oz is already better than those two because he led the Chicago White Sox to a WS title. Do you realize Chicago teams DO NOT win WS titles? And guess who led them to one?? Ozzie. Before Ozzie? I don't even know who our manager was in 1917 or whenever we won one. If you think heath Bell is good, then bless you. Heath is a trainwreck and he's not Ozzie's fault. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 04:30 AM) I feel bad for Greg now. Damn. Why? I don't think I'm banned yet.

QUOTE (soxmaniac! @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:58 AM) I don't get it. Jenks did SO much for this team, and he continuously gets disrespected. Some people just have short team memory I guess. How can you criticize a guy who helped bring the sox their only championship in the last 100 years? It is beyond me. Good post. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 04:06 AM) Greg was poised at the keyboard for the tying run to score so we could all predict the Sox would never win in extra innings because they suck at that so far in 2012. Then again, a statistic like that has to even out eventually. I wanted the Sox to win it in nine innings and thankfully they did. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 04:11 AM) I cant wait till you and the original gregbot unite and form Voltron. Just cause I disagree with most posters about Sox you call me a bot. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 04:19 AM) I think we should all pool our money together and buy an Applebee's franchise in Lawrence (since we'll probably come up JUST a bit short for the $1 billion on the Sox or even a minor league team, although, in fairness, our internal SoxTalk marketing department might be stronger here than the one at 35th and Shields presently) Whenever any news happens with the Sox, Ozzie, whatever, we can "insta-poll" all the diners to get their immediate feedback and put it into Sherman and Peabody's quant analysis machine for further digestion. We already got an applebee's here.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:00 AM) And I've never seen Jason do anything like that. I still think his account got hacked.
-
We win. Reed gets the job done but didn't seem to have good stuff IMO.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 12:36 AM) That may have been the worst AB I have ever seen. 3 fastballs down the pipe and he is watching like he bought a ticket. That does classify as perhaps the worst at bat of all time. Good observation IMO. Wow.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:57 PM) How long will it take for greg to realize who Chisoxfn is.... Which actually only backs up Jason's statement, since greg has been here what, close to a decade? And yet he still doesn't know. If he's the owner, then it's pretty crazy to think my defense of Ozzie would elicit such a venomous response. All I'm doing is stating my defense of Ozzie. It's not like I'm starting threads saying Ozzie this and Ozzie that and I wish Ozzie was still here. You guys think Ozzie quit on the team whatever that means. I say the Sox didn't want him and he sped up the process by negotiating the final week or whenever. If the Sox wanted Ozzie Guillen and made it known they wanted Oz through thick and thin, he'd still be here. Also, who cares if he's playing on the internet before games instead of scouring advanced stats. What did Earl Weaver do back in the day w/no internet or Tommy Lasorda? They played grabass with the media I'm sure or played cards. Who cares? A manager brings the intangibles and semblance of strategy DURING games.

KW whining about (OK bringing up) attendance again

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) Yes there would be big interest, and if the Padres selling price is any indication, the Sox would be sold close to $1billion. You really think there would be big interest? Traditionally the Sox have been on shaky ground, almost moving that one year. As nice as the Cell is ... would any of you be against starting over? New owner? New stadium in the most picturesque part of the city where there could be bars, restaurants, etc., not a slum to the east and southeast and nice, but blah Bridgeport to the west? -
Losing another series to the Twinks would be embarrassing. Our team is full of name players. They've got two of them. Three counting Liriano. Time to start winning series or shut up.

Is there anybody out there who would buy the White Sox if Jerry and the investors wanted out? Would Cuban buy the team? Does he have the cash? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) who got knocked out, me or chisox? it seems to me he snapped and will prolly be headed to the penalty box.

QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) If Beckham is so weak in the head that he can't handle being moved from 2nd to 9th in the lineup then he'll likely never meet the potential that we all initially thought he had. See the ball, hit the ball, regardless of your spot in the lineup. i don't think it's a huge deal, but Beckham was doing pretty well. He's almost back up to .250. Let's see if he can handle this or not.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 08:08 PM) Greg...I don't make personal attacks, but you are the stupidest person in the history of the internet. I can't even fathom this and its posts like this that really prove the fact that you are either (a) that stupid or (b) the biggest troll in the history of Soxtalk. Did somebody hack your account? I like Ozzie and stand up for him. Get over it. Or don't.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) If Ozzie was the greatest manager in the world, he would have had the cojones to try to make a go of it with this diminished roster. RV has. He knew he was going to lose some talent (Buehrle/Quentin for starters), so he took the easy way out. How many great managers in the past ran from a challenge that was 50% created by themselves? I frankly don't think Robin will do any better than Ozzie with this roster when all is said and done. Team has a weird dynamic again. Lot of old guys mixed with young guys in key spots. 2 through six in the lineup is Youk, Dunn, Paulie, Rios, AJ, that's a ton of veterans to go with Tank, DeAza, Beckham and Lexi. It seems like a scary lineup, but something is amiss. Our pitching is very inconsistent as usual despite the fact on paper we've got a good closer and average rotation in Peavy, Sale, Floyd, Q and Danks when he comes back. Ozzie would be getting fried for not having this team in the playoffs, when in reality the team still just isn't that good. It's basically underachieving once again. We have a lot of name players on this team.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) what is your point here? Jenks fell apart. He may have been closer for "years", but he really was only successful the first 2 years. the last 2 he was a ticking time bomb. What do Soria and Reed have to do with it? Soria was closer for "years" too My point is closers aren't very good for more than a handful of years max. Bobby was fine.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 07:35 PM) Guillen had a signed contract for another year. He walked away. Not the other way around. You have to admit, the White Sox did NOT want the guy back. He just took everybody out of their misery. If things were going well in Chicago he'd never have left. There are perks to being loved in the great city of Chicago where people care. Who cares if he walked away? Most fans on this message board wanted him to walk away.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 04:11 AM) In 4 of the last 6 and 5 out of the last 8 games the Sox have scored 1 run or less. 3 of those games went extra innings. BBGW. Hmm, I guess Walker wasn't the problem. Manto, Walker, Ozzie, Robin, etc., it all adds up to .500 folks.
-
Just tuned in. I take it another lousy effort vs. the twins.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 01:14 AM) Dunn has no prayer against Liriano tonight. Would have been a good night to get him a breather. I agree. Unless Liriano gets knocked out, look for 3-4 Ks from Adam tonight. Like u said, no chance in hell of making contact.
-
2-through-6 in the lineup is as veteran a team as there is. We are All In again, folks. The rebuilding talk is just dumb. This team needs to win with these veterans!

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) Perhaps you could find a statistics professor at KU to explain to you why a sample size of 504 games over the past two years is more significant than a sample size of 12 games. Call Les Grobstein's show and tell him the AL is way better and get ready for some fireworks.
