  1. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:10 AM) I cant believe Paul didnt put that into the seats Me too, the pitch before the last was total meat.
  2. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:02 AM) If the ball gets to the catcher on the fly he can be fine. But that's not easy for him. So I guess he's rather wild.
  3. Is Septimo any good? I know he's as good as Ohman who reeked but is he any good?
  4. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:54 AM) Let's start the Ventura bashing now, Axelrod back out there with 100 pitches 5 2/3, that's an acceptable start.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Then managers are not important and Ozzie is irrelevant to all of the White Sox success in 05. I said they are "also responsible."
  6. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:10 AM) The Sox are really one SP away from being a force. They need to get the best SP out there that they can get for Mitchell. Whoever they get might not be much, but he would be an improvement. Liriano anyone? Greinke is your man. If the Sox got Greinke, the Sox might win the WS. It would take 3-4 GOOD prospects I bet with no guarantee he re-signs.
  7. So much for Cy Axelrod. Many people on here said they preferred him over Floyd during Floyd's last so-so outing.
  8. It's a thing of beauty when Beckham goes with the pitch.
  9. I hope any AJ haters cease and desist forever. Can you believe what a gamer AJ is? He f***ing knocks the ball out of the catcher's grasp. The man WANTS IT and always has wanted it. Love u AJP.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Ozzie was great when I was 13 and less of an ass. But since then he's become a clubhouse cancer (as a manager, that is not a good thing) and his interviews lack any semblance of professionalism or class. That's not likable, that's detestable. He's not the White Sox manager anymore so I hold no loyalty to Ozzie, in sports you root for the laundry. So now that he's gone and I'm almost out of my teenage years it is incredibly easy to see what an arrogant, self-righteous prick that Ozzie Guillen is. The interview I watched after last night's game was great. He was calm and professional. I guess after that, he decided to rant on the pitchers. Big deal. Don't you Ozzie haters see you have sold your souls to modern sports cliches. You love the manager (when winning), then tire of the manager because he's old news, been around too long. Unless the team keeps winning divisions you tire of him and want him gone even though he's young and as good a manager as anybody out there. You fail to realize the players are the ones actually playing and also responsible for winning division titles. You sell out to the dreaded sports cliche and are no longer loyal to the guy who gave you THE ULTIMATE THRILL as a baseball fan. A WS title. And if anybody could have engineered a postseason run as Oz did, then why the hell has it happened once in 90 years or whatever the string is. Cubs still haven't done it. OZZIE ROCKS!!!! QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) I'm still waiting for an answer on how "it's obvious" that Miami will make the playoffs. It was for the reasons posted above my response. Yes Miami will get in. Hopefully it's destiny we meet them in the WS and beat them.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 12:46 AM) "He's a great closer. He was the closer in 2005 when the Sox won. Who was the last closer for the White Sox or Cubs to win a World Series with that team? Doing that in Chicago is so difficult." -- greg. You speak the truth. You deny any of that? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Of course, we think of him blowing away Bagwell in 2005 in the World Series. Of the consecutive batters retired streak, too. Then there are the key blown saves against the Twins in 2008 and 2010...I still have nightmares about the Carlos Gomez game and the one after the All-Star Break. Those losses were excruciating. Greg's argument is that Jenks had close to an 85% conversion rate (his final 2 seasons), just like Sergio last year. But he wasn't the same pitcher who was feared. He got the job done more often than not, but his devastating arsenal and stuff just wasn't there...especially the velocity on the FB. So what if he wasn't devastating anymore? He had a good long run and pretty much all closers we've had since have had their struggles after a stretch of saves. Reed has been very good and it's hopeful he's at the start of his four or five year tenure of effectiveness, cause that's all closers last.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 06:24 AM) But he keeps a loose clubhouse! I can't stand him. How long before he's fired? How can you not stand him? Have you seen his interviews? The man is likeable and I wish him well. I want the Sox to win every game, but I hold no ill will toward Ozzie. Why do you? I think of him and think of WS.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 05:41 AM) Candy used to be a nickel! I still say parking is a f***ing joke at the Cell.
  14. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 03:52 AM) 2.19. Still unbelievable. He's got to be the AL Cy Young frontrunner right now. Thank god Sale had the balls to refuse that dumb decision to make him a reliever. Chris Sale is MONEY!
  15. I'm glad it's not a day game tomorrow. Maybe by 6 p.m., our bats can get hot again, rather than the expected jinx and Sox mustering just 3 hits.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 03:32 AM) Think Wise pitches the 8th for Rangers? Which position player gets the call tonight?
  17. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 07:41 PM) I am going tomorrow wit my two kids. Ticket, lower deck box but could easily have gotten $24 upper deck but went with some nice $40 seats down the line total cost $120 Prepaid parking pass $24 up to $144 Will tailgate and BBQ in parking lot. Would do this at home so no cost there. Will buy two beers, two big sodas and budget myself to spending $50 in the park That is $200. $120 in April, $24 last month for the parking and $50 tomorrow. Now if I am going to get loaded with my family and eat like vikings I am sure I could get to $300 easily. Also if you bought the kids hats and/or tshirts like some fans prolly do, that would skyrocket your costs as well. 200 for 3 people; a movie would be 30 bucks plus food/drink and a minor league game would be 24 bucks plus food, drinks. Have fun, though. 200 bucks isn't so bad, but let's say this was 15 years ago. A fan could go to 10 games a year and be able to afford it easily. The parking costs are really outrageous IMO. Baseball should be ashamed of itself. I mean, give me a f***ing break.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) How's Kansas? Hot. I have said many times Chicago is the greatest city in the world. QUOTE (Paulie4Pres @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:02 AM) Attendance is low because it's still TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. I'm sorry, but I'm not dropping $300 to take my family to a baseball game... Amen, brotha.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 3, 2012 -> 12:13 AM) The bigger question is: who would you root for? Chicago's White Sox.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 01:13 PM) If you want to see a really good movie about the end of the world, Melancholia is it. Just for the Kirsten Dunst scenes...however, be warned, not exactly a feel good or date movie, unless you've just joined a "end of the world" cult and perhaps believe that December will bring the final curtain down (see Mayan Calendar). And Greg, the other reason Rock of Ages wasn't good was because Julianne Hough also can't sing. The major problem with that movie (in a way, reminiscent of his Frank TJ Mackey character in MAGNOLIA) is that Cruise's character is probably the most interesting in the film, and yet is essentially a supporting actor. When you know exactly how the main two characters will end and don't care one way or the other (just like her prior movies Footloose and Burlesque), well, that's not a good element going in favor of the film having success. Jeff, Who Lives At Home.....worth watching, although definitely kind of a "one note" character for Segel, who needs to expand his repertoire before he becomes a ten year older version of Michael Cena. The Five-Year Engagement wasn't good either, although he's definitely one of the most "in demand" actors these days in terms of being in almost every other movie that comes out. And Ed Helms was a lot less annoying in Cedar Rapids than in this one, where he has zero redeeming characteristics to his name. I like your movie review-ish observations. Again, you are correct about Rock of Ages. However, if you read my recommendation, I did say it gets a 2.8 out of 4, a harmless summer movie that made me smile, mostly because of Cruise's character, Alec Baldwin, and the music, which could have been better. Plus Hough's legs. Some scenes that prove again you don't have to be naked to make the imagination run wild. Some sexy women.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) Lol, incredibly rare situation involving a pre pre term baby needing round the clock care from specialists =/= some emergency procedure. Oh, and since this country is so morally and ethically bankrupt when it comes to healthcare, i'm assuming this baby is now dead because if you can't pay medical bills you're just thrown out on the street to die. I see that happen all the time. Why LOL? Really a funny situation to mock here. I'm saying the bill of $997,000 was for the initial surgery of the poor baby. I'm asking a simple question, asking people to educate me on why our system is so great when in Europe a friend of mine walked into a hospital for emergency care, had to stay a couple days and there's no bill. Free. As far as not treating the baby and throwing him on the street to die ... educate me again. If you have no insurance and head to emergency room, a.) will they treat you at all? b.) if you do get treated and they immediately find a brain tumor on the MRI, you mean to tell me they will do brain surgery for free? I don't think so. I think they tell you about free clinics, etc. I'm asking if Europe's system is better; cause it seems so. 997,000 bucks?? For one surgery?
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) Marlins are only 4 games out of a playoff spot. I don't know if they are the only team to do this, but their 5 starters have made every one of their starts. If that continues, Bell actually closes games, and some of the underachieving offensive players start hitting, the Marlins could be a second half team. 10 NL teams are very much in it, and the Marlins are one of them. It's pretty obvious the Marlins are going to make the playoffs. The question is: Is it destiny for Sox n Miami to meet in the WS the first-year post Ozzie.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 04:01 AM) Leave it to Greg to give a 2.8 instead of 2.75, haha. Julianne Hough. And she's not that hot, Malin Ackerman, who played the reporter with the glasses who interviewed Cruise's character, is still way hotter. If you're not convinced, check out Wanderlust or any other number of movies she's been in recently. The main problem with this movie is that nobody in America could care less about either lead. Diego Boneta is about as memorable as the lead male role from Coyote Ugly, Burlesque or Showgirls. I want to see the Seeking a Friend at the End of World, but it's already out of theatres. Good comment about the lead actors. They did not make you care about them. I just fell for Hough's legs I guess.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) When Paul Konerko was 23 he didn't have this good of an approach. And, when Paul Konerko was 23, he had 2232 minor league PA's under his belt. Viciedo had 1299. Good stats. It should be interesting to see how he changes his approach. Isn't there a chance he's 27 or 28 though?
  25. I wonder what he said to AJ. He seemed pissed.
