Would you trade Chris Sale and Beckham for Sal Perez and Danny Duffy (I realize Duffy is hurt). I think Perez is gonna be special.

I think sweltering weather teams like KC, St. Looie and Texas Rangers should never play games before 7 p.m. I personally won't consider going to a game like Sunday afternoon's game. To me, it's not enjoyable sitting in 95-105 degree heat unless it's on a beach or Vegas pool cabana. Just too hot.

Let's face it, guys, every game we play against the Royals this year is gonna be a dogfight. Our starting pitching ain't looking dominant right now.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 12:00 AM) Orioles up to their last man, some guy named Jim Thome. When did the O's acquire Thome? Is he everyday DH?

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) People often mention that one bad outing completely screws over a reliever's ERA. If you take out Reed's one disastrous outing, his ERA would be 2.53 and he would be getting ROY talk. He is giving up homers at an insanely low rate, striking guys out and has a bad BABIP at the moment. I'm not sure what people who doubt his offspeed stuff are watching because his change and slider can be devastating from my eyes, and are perfectly matched with a 95mph fastball with good late tailing action. Seriously, what do you want from the guy? He's aggressive, keeps the ball in the park and is unflappable as a rookie. His stuff is extremely good, he's just not polished yet. There are 139572 other things to complain about on this team that are more legitimate than Reed. Good post. Last night's outing won't help his ERA either. It was 9.0. I'm complaining because he didn't get the save last night. I was ready for that game to end.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) So apparently people are freaking out about a rookie who has a 86.67 SV%. I don't think anybody's freaking out except Marty. Some are concerned, though, that his stuff may not be electric right now. He did throw one awe-inspiring heater last night, though. I forget to which batter but I was impressed. I think it was 95 on the gun on that one. It did piss me off he couldn't nail down the save. I wanted the game to end at that point.

Why doesn't this bullpen have a nickname yet?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) The Playpen. I don't know if that's ever been used before, but if not, that's pretty good. Some media member should steal that one, if the bullpen does well, that is. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) The guy is a rookie averaging over a strikeout an inning with about a .650 OPS against him. Is there any White Sox worth having on the roster? My buddy and I went to a game a few years ago with a guy who complained the entire time. This guy can't pitch, that guy can't hit, the manager can't manage.....the entire game. The Sox wound up winning. We went to Jimbo's after the game and the guy mentioned what a great time he had. My buddy and I just looked at each other. I'm thinking you're probably similar. For a team that needs a closer, a top of the rotation starter, has a LF who isn't worth the wait, a SS who needs to go, they sure are doing fine. That's hilarious about the complainer. As much as I can b**** on here, I think I only got pissed or said something bad about one Sox last night, coincidentally Reed. For some reason his blowing the save at that point pissed me off. I thought Sox had the game and figured we were ultimately doomed. When the inning ended I screamed something out about Reed and the fans around my group laughed. Most fans stuck around because of the fireworks show. In a way it was a perfect game for me, because I pretty much got to see the entire Sox roster in person, except for starting pitchers and Flowers and Escobar.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) If your provider carries MLB extra innings, there's a free preview until next Friday. It won't be blacked out. I think the Fox 6 pm games are over for a while. Its back to 3 pm. Thanx.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) Did u ask the policeman if he was a Guillen or White Sox fan? What were you wearing? Royals or Sox colors, lol? The grass is so green there on t.v., looks amazing. Last Royals' game for me was in August/11. I had no baseball gear on. Good thing I didn't wear a Sox hat. I volunteered to the guy that myself and my friend were at the Royals game. He said, "I heard it went 14 innings." I pretended I wanted KC to win and said, 'Yeah, tough loss." I think the cop was looking for drunk drivers. I'm still surprised he didn't ticket me for monetary reasons. Cop told me he saved me 160 bucks for 12 over. It always surprises me when people get out of tickets with warnings. True it was 1:45 a.m. and I didn't drink at the game at all, but he had that money out of me and let me go.

Will tonight's game be blacked out because of the FOX Saturday game thing?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) The jury's still out on Reed and the entire bullpen... So far, we're surviving, some might say thriving, and gaining needed experience. Jones has GOT to learn how to throw that slider more consistently for strikes. He destroyed Perez with it, but then fed a fastball right across the heart of the plate to Escobar. The ball that B. Pena hit to Rios in RF would have gone right through the wall had it continued carrying, ala Pete Incaviglia. He smoked it, we just got lucky. You've had some great posts on this game. How do you remember so many plays from last night's marathon? I've forgotten many of them already, like Pena's liner, until you brought it up. That was a rocket. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 04:39 PM) Experience is what you get when you don't want it. But, with these rookies this is the way the learn. They do step up and not panic for the most part. If we get Crain back it should help but an experieced and effective vet closer might not hurt. Not saying I am just saying... Yes, a lot of rookie relievers showed some balls last night.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Sure glad you got to go the the game live and see a Sox win. It's always fun to read the posts from folks who get to go to a Sox game and then report to us far flung types Thanks. it was a great game. Great seats on dollar hot dog night. Saw a Sox fan almost get in a fight with a Royal fan. He woulda got thrown out but he was in the crown seats drunk as hell. The drunk Sox fan was pissed the AJ double didn't score the runner. Funny how ALL the Sox fans I saw at the game who wore jerseys had AJ shirts on. He's one popular mofo. AJ is a stud pure and simple. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) I was too tired to post last night but... SEPTIMO!!!!!!!! The way he got that baserunner out at 2nd base was incredible! :-D That should help Septimo keep a job in the major league roster's bullpen when it's time to demote someone. He was so pumped when he picked him off. Royals deserved to lose after that blunder. Septimo was running all over the mound area jacked up after the pickoff. Love his enthusiasm. Sox dugout was really into that game as well, nice to see in Kauffman where bad things often happen to Sox. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) I love when people at the game think they know about the strike zone, you don't have a damn clue. Gee, sorry for voicing my opinion. That ump sucked. Both sides furious as usual. Yost ripped him after the game and AJ tore into his ass. Yost said of Broxton's eight straight balls. "The pitches that were called balls." And yes people sitting in the fifth row right by home plate can have an opinion on balls and strikes. Sounds like you have to work on a Saturday with your "damn clue" grouchy line. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 07:34 PM) Reed didn't seem to be really on his game. He was throwing 93 MPH fastballs up there at times and he simply didn't have his slider. He had a bad outing IMO. He looked very hittable.

Don't think it'll jinx us, hope not, but Hosmer of the Royals is really sucking. Had another horrible game tonight. Looks lost. You got to wonder WTF. His second season as a pro has been very bad and he's not making any progress at all. I will say, Moustakas and Sal Perez look like real players as does Cain and their shortstop.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) Isn't there a direct to DVD third Flintstones where Stephen Baldwin plays Barney? That's the one I saw. Horrific.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) Well you clearly didnt see it but Reed didnt suck. I thought he sucked. It was time to get a save and he failed. His pitches screamed hit me as well. I don't like his stuff right now. We had fifth row seats right by the catcher and I thought he was blah.
-
Great win. Great fireworks show. Some musings. ... I will say I was completely calm the whole game until Reed sucked. Man I wanted him to get the three-out save, instead of suck. I never thought Axelrod could do it, but he did. Two innings. Man he was good. Tank's three-run bomb. So huge. I was proud of Beckham for serving that hit into rightfield after having a fairly s***ty offensive game. And really happy Youk hit the sac fly to center after all those foul balls. He's still got it. I don't understand why Hudson was running so slow on the play he got thrown out at the plate. I hear it was a bad call at home, but he either got a late start or something cause it was pretty obvious he was a dead duck. Q did not pitch well. AJ is such a stud. Hits what could have been the game winning hit had it not hopped over the wall. And he was so mad at that s***ass home plate ump. He gave it to him during the game and after the final out. That ump SUCKED. Got pulled over by the cops for going 82 in a 70 on the way home and didn't get a ticket. So my luck held on dollar hot dog night. Good win.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 06:38 AM) What a game. Really starting to worry about DeAza, Jones and Reed. Happy for Gordon that he had that RBI double and then the go-ahead walk scoring on the sac fly. I'm worried a little about Reed. Not worried about DeAza. He had a bad game, but he finally did stroke a hit the other way. I was dying for him to hit that hole all night. Very good crowd tonight, 32,000. Very very enjoyable game. I was pissed AJ's blast to right skipped over the fence. Very tough break. Was so happy to see Youk blast that fly ball after so many foul balls. That sac fly, sooo big. Great game. My luck continued on the way home. Got pulled over doing 82 in a 70 and no ticket. Whew.

Friday the 13th Game Thread: Sox @ Royals!

Guys, just going by my past experiences at Kauffman Stadium when going to see the Sox play. I have not had good luck. If my past is any indication tonight. ... Butler will probably hit at least one, maybe two bombs off Q and Chen shuts us down and we lose 7-1. Or ... Sox get off to a great start, lead 4-1 after 7 and Thornton is a huge goat. If we lose, bank on Butler having a big game and/or Thornton getting shelled. If I had to bet the house on it, I'd say the Royals hit Q pretty hard tonight and we're all figuring the All-Star break was not kind to Q. Prediction: KC in a laughter, 9-3 with our 3 coming late. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) I have worked within blocks of the Tower for about 14 years now, and haven't done it. The big reason we are going to do it, is because my six year old is obsessed with the building and really wants to do it. What's it like working downtown? Do you live out in suburbia and commute or ? That's neat you are biting the bullet and taking the 6 year old. That's crazy it costs so much to take an elevator to the top of a building. It should be free for kids under 12; 5-10 bucks for everybody else IMO.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) The worst case was when they cast Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble in the Fred Flinstone movie back in the 90's. Totally ruined Betty for me (I had a crush on her as a little kid) and the producers should've gotten shot for that one. Do you think that might have been the worst movie of all time? It was so bad it can't be described. Why do producers think a movie will work just because they try to get a good impersonation going? I still remember hearing the Betty giggle in that movie. I could puke. Big deal. One of the Baldwin brothers looked like Barney. Just put Dana Carvey on the screen and let him do impressions for two hours.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 03:05 AM) So, what you just told me is Self didn't want to continue it and think that a game at the Sprint Center wouldn't be great. Then why do U of I and Mizzou do fine in St. Louis? Notice they killed the football game between U of I and Mizzou. It was too tough a noncon game for both. You got to play patsies in noncon. As far as basketball, I guess the neutral site thing at Sprint Center might be what they eventually do in 10 years or so when they play again. Do people actually care much about U of I vs. MU in a neutral site game? Or is it a thing the media hypes up and it's a yawner. Neutral site games don't do it. I guess there'd be a lot of fights in the parking lots with KU and MU playing in Sprint.

Why is Q pitching tonight? Why don't the Sox just open with Sale, then go with Peavy, Q, Floyd? This is no time to give KC some momentum in the series opener with me there. Typical luck. I buy expensive seats and it's our first rainy day pretty much in the last six weeks. -
Saw Abe Lincoln today as my last movie on a vacation week. Another decent movie IMO. I enjoyed it. Abe and the Vampires: 3.8 out of 5 stars. Ted: 3.9 out of 5 stars. Savages: 4 out of 5 stars if u take out the ending.
