QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) For Peavy to win any game he was hung with a loss on this year, he would have had to have thrown a shutout. Today appears no different. Poor Peavy. Last night was a plethora of runs. Today nothing. He has to be pissed.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) Goodness he sucks. Not a good combination when you swing and miss a lot, and you have a false sense of what the strike zone is. The guy never plays. Maybe he'd be more value in the minors continue to develop. You don't need a very good backup when the guy only plays once a week. We got anybody in the minors who can catch a game a week?

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) We've been shut out a lot this year. I'm sure all those times we were facing good pitchers too, but at some point we have to be able to hit good pitchers right? We can't keep getting punked... Can't win every game. Two out of four in New York will be a fine series.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) This is why I don't understand why people ridicule Wise. He contributed to our team in the past and people still go after him. He has proven that he can still contribute for teams now. He's putting much better swings on the ball than anyone on our offense. He is what he is. A fine major league sub. A lot of people would kill to play in the big leagues, play a kid's game and earn that kind of pension for life. Congrats, Mr. Wise.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 07:11 AM) I'm in no way saying you're anti-Robin. All I'm saying is that your MAIN defense of Ozzie and why we should love him eternally is because he won a World Series. Which is something no one else did in 88 prior seasons. If Robin or anyone else wins a Series in the next decade or so that takes away Ozzie's special thing and your main defense of him. He won't nearly be as special, he'll just be another guy that won the Series. Yes he will have been the guy to break that 88 year drought, but he's also the guy that turned into an asshole and soured his legacy to lots of Sox fans. I'm glad I'm not coming across as anti Robin because I'm not anti Robin. I had heard last winter from a sportswriter who covers baseball that Robin is a very smart man and he thought he'd succeed because he's smart. He has handled himself well and looks like the kind of guy who will manage a long time if he wants to. He seems to have a pretty nice feel for it and at least right now isn't letting the pressure get to him. That could change as he grows into the job year after year, but right now he seems pretty special in going with the flow. I guess we'll have to see how gray his hair turns to see if the pressure is getting to him. He doesn't seem like the kinda guy who would dye his hair.

I know a young couple whose child was born at 2 pounds and needed some surgery early on. The bill? $997,000. Conversely I know of a guy who was in Europe traveling and needed some emergency procedure in the hospital. The bill? $0. Please, tell me about our healthcare system and tell me why what we have is better than Europe? Educate me, please.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) Theres not a ton of retail or restaurants so I was hoping that would improve a bit, or start to grow a town. But the downside is the kids around there arent quite doing what we did which was band together, spend your days and nights outside and have some real summer friends. I see kids inside or sometimes out on the boat for a short period of time. There is something to be said about family bonding in a small cottage in the summer with no technology. Then these kids don't know what they are missing. Summers during my teen years at the family owned resort at Lake Elizabeth and Lake Marie in Wisconsin entailed making some money at the resort pumping gas and chopping firewood and working the cash register for the owners as one of five or six guys who bunked there all summer, being with tons of girls who would come in and rent the cabins with their families, waterski during free hours, fish in the mornings, go to demolition derbys and fairs in the evenings with the girls we met ... drink the owners' beer ... make money and basically be delinquents! Kids today do not know what they are missing. Stay inside?? No way.

ROCK OF AGES Don't want to read the whole thread, but saw this movie today since I'm on vacation. My god that lead actress is hot. Geezus what legs; what a face. I thought this movie was harmless, decent fun. I would give it a non energetic thumbs up. Alec Baldwin amuses me; Tom Cruse amuses me in this film and that lead actress. My gawd. What say you all? I give it a 2.8 out of 4. I feel like I did not waste my money though it coulda been 10 minutes shorter and I wouldn't complain.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 03:49 AM) I guess we're all just assuming they should be buried because he kind of has a past of quitting on his own team in the face of adversity. Then again, maybe he won't quit this teach because he's now in hot Miami with a ton of money in a Latin community with a loving GM where people don't give two s***s about baseball. Why would he quit on that? And oh, don't worry, he won't get fired by Miami. He's a great manager, probably better than Lasorda and Weaver. The Marlins only tripled (maybe even quadrupled) their payroll upon his arrival, so I have no idea why he'd get fired for their underachieving season. It's all Heath Bell's, Kenny's, or Adam Dunn's fault for Miami's struggles this year. Why should I believe the owner of the website if I can believe greg instead? You need some anti-Greg medicine; maybe six beers if u are over 21.

HEYYY YANKEEEES............ SOX WIN! SOX WIN!
greg775 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 02:40 AM) "With Ozzie, the Sox win that game 16-4." -- greg right now, probably. Somehow I'm not regarded as a Sox fan anymore just because I like Ozzie. Weird. We win big and it's like I got shown up some how. I don't know how to change this perception since nobody on here will have my back since I guess I'm universally hated. That said ... great win. I figured seeing the run totals that one of my favorite Sox, DeAza had a big game. Surprised to check the box score and see one for six, but I'll take it. Wow on Alexei, AJ, Paulie, Rios, et. all. Sox look like a good team this year; still a bit dysfunctional (OK I'll change the word to inconsistent like somebody said) but a good team. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 02:27 AM) Dweezy has pitched a successful 2/3rds of an inning against the white sox. Greg775, you sir have won the world. It's a good night when the White Sox win and D Wise gets to pitch. Nice. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 02:36 AM) Q has two straight games with 8 shutout innings and gets ND in both, then gives up 6 runs in 6 innings and gets win. Sounds about right. Great post. Dat's baseball. I like having Youk around when we play boston and New York. This is nice to have a badass former AL East guy on our team.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:25 PM) I don't...I honestly hope he does well...I am interested in following his exploits, but certainly don't wish ill-will upon him. I do think the "quit on the White Sox" thing is ridiculous....who the hell cares...season was over, we were all wanting him gone...he obliged us, and yet now we are holding it against him. Amen. Great post IMO.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) Greg has fully been addicted to Guillen kool aid. Just like Oney and all the others, if Ozzie's team fails, there are fingers to be pointed in every direction except one. Ironically, if you gave him a team with HOFers at every position and they won, the reason would be Ozzie. If Ozzie was half as great and influenced the outcomes of games as much as some believe, there is no way the Marlins would be where they are right now. He was effective when he was about winning. When it became all about money, Ozzie became a below average MLB manager, as the results indicate. Maybe he can get it back, but it would be hard. Once you're stopped taken seriously, its not often anyone, at least players, will reverse that thinking. Ozzie and Ditka are pretty similar. Not a bad post or a bad theory, but you guys act like the Marlins season is over. And the team is finished. Why bury Ozzie so quickly with his new team? QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) I was referring to the fact that you keep insisting that Ozzie didn't quit. Him winning a WS has nothing to do with that. Why he quit also has nothing to do with it. It's just a simple fact you can't seem to acknowledge. Ozzie had a contract to manage the team through the 2012 season, but instead he decided to quit before his contract was fulfilled and go manage the Marlins instead. Nothing you say can make that statement false, so quit tying. My disagreement with the Ozzie haters on the "quit" issue is what does it matter? The semantics?? The White Sox did not want Ozzie back. Ozzie could not coexist with KW any longer. There was a divorce. He quit with a week left? Big deal. Sox wanted him OUT. Can you deny this?? You think the White Sox wanted him back for this season? KW won that battle. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) Man, if Robin...or really anyone else wins a World Series with the Sox Greg will have no legs to stand on anymore. Maybe he'll resort to "Well Ozzie gave the Sox their FIRST World Championship!" No legs to stand on ... what? I am not here to say Robin is worst than Ozzie. All I do is defend Ozzie when he's criticized. It's not a deal where I don't want the Sox to win the WS. I don't go out there rooting for the Sox to lose. Are you crazy? I want the Sox to win more than ever. Why can you not accept the fact I am an Ozzie DEFENDER not Robin hater or Sox hater or Ozzie supporter? I also defend Wise and I don't want the Yankees to win a game. I defend Pods and I don't want whatever team he is on now to win. I don't care if the Marlins win. I don't care if Ozzie gets fired by Miami. All I want is for people to either praise Ozzie on here (in a best case scenario) for his body of work with the White Sox or at the worst to shut up and not take pot shots at him, which in my mind forces me to respond. I wish people would ONLY concentrate on this team so we can discuss this team and I won't have to defend Ozzie. It's growing tiresome.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 05:26 AM) Why is it so important if Ozzie admits he really never does anything and delegates all the responsibilities to his coaching staff? I said 'generally' regarded as an important job.

Aaron Rowand Working Radio During Yanks Series
greg775 replied to Noonskadoodle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 06:52 AM) Rios wasn't adequate in 2010? Pods and Pierre, your heroes? De Weezey? I can't believe you're casting aspersions on 3 of your favorite all-time Sox. Pods didn't always play cf. I never said Wise or Pierre were good major leaguers. I didn't think they deserved booing. Rios ... the fans wanted to run him out of town last year. Rowand was our last good cf til DeAza. -
DeAza and Tank with the bombs and good pitching. Equalis a big road win.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 03:39 AM) The Sox gave him approval to seek a job somewhere else in the middle of September? Is this a joke of some sort? And a WS is the ultimate defense? Hey, Trent Dilfer was great at football because he won a ring. Dan Marino therefore sucked a**. Robert Horry is better than Michael Jordan since he has more championships. Hey man, it's the ultimate defense, right? Ozzie was manager of the team; that's generally regarded as a pretty important job. The Sox didn't want Ozzie anymore. If they did, he'd still be here.

Aaron Rowand Working Radio During Yanks Series
greg775 replied to Noonskadoodle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) One of the most overrated White Sox players ever. Still, there is no way he could suck any less than DJ on the radio. Overrated? After he left, we never adequately replaced him til DeAza. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Which one of those guys with additional years on their contracts was negotiating with another team during the season? There is only one right answer. With a week to go in a long lost season? Negotiating with the total approval of his current team that didn't want him? KW prolly held a party praying Ozzie would negotiate with the Marlins. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) What's tiresome is you trying to defend something that is not defensible. I have the ultimate defense: A world series title. Case closed.
-
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) That's "all" you can say? Or that's "all" you want to say considering that Ozzie had a better team on paper last year and quit on the team? I think most posters would say I've said enough on Ozzie. This "quit on the team" stuff is tiresome. Did Rios quit on the team? Did Dunn? It's easy to spout such a simplistic phrase. Do grown men and women really think Ozzie Guillen quit on the White Sox?

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) I would still dump him for nothing in return this year if someone was willing to take his salary (if you could). But I don't see that as a realistic possibility...I don't even care if that would create a bit of a hole in this year's lineup because the benefits beyond this year would make it worth it. Have any of the papers or national websites written anything in depth on Rios? Like what his teammates and coaches think of him and why he's turned it around? It'd be interesting to hear some behind the scenes stuff on the guy even if it was from anonymous sources. Why is he finally having a good season? It'd be easy to just blame Ozzie/Walker. I want some information.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) Viciedo has 1 great month and 2 bad months thus far this year. With how streaky he is at this point in his career, I am not yet convinced he will be a major contributor this September and October (if we get there). I do think he has huge potential though so you really need to keep playing him until he proves he can't contribute to a playoff-contending team. How are his walk totals? Anytime you have a guy who won't take a walk you'll get this type of streaky result. Some of the bombs he's hit like the line driver homers at the Cell to rightfield make you realize what a talented hitter he can be. I just can't see him ever becoming patient enough, though, to be an all star. The odds are really against hitters who hack away at almost every single pitch. Why is dan Johnson in the Sox system? If he has 18 hrs the Sox should trade him for scraps to somebody who will play the guy.

Two wins would be good. Last year's team probably would have won one. Had the series been after the all star break last year's team woulda definitely got swept. As far as perception goes If Sox get ... Zero or one win) Perception is Sox pretty much are pretenders. Vying for a title in a joke of a division. Split: More than a yawn. Sox would be holding their own and in the race. Three wins: Wow, quite a series. Sox are resembling the team that won nine in a row more than the lousy team of late (cept for Minnie series). Four wins: This just might be a division champ and with Youk maybe capable of making some postseason noise.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:58 AM) Ozzie's not finding ways to beat anybody at the moment. I don't think the cellar dwellar Marlins are much of a WS threat. Greg, how do you explain the White Sox being in first and the Marlins being in last, considering your comments when Ozzie left? Even Oney doesn't say much anymore other than to once in a while mention people in Chicago shouldn't be so interested in Ozzie. I'm glad the white sox are in first is all I can say about that. I really don't care how the Marlins do because it doesn't really matter. Ozzie Guillen has more money than unfortunately I'll ever be able to count and he's a grown man who is fine. I take no joy in them winning and no sadness in them losing. I do, however, stand up for Ozzie Guillen when he is attacked or ripped or mocked concerning his time spent in Chicago because IMO he's one of my favorite Sox players ever and by far my favorite manager. It looks as if Robin has what it takes and if KW does his job, I'm happy to believe Robin could also win some WS titles. I see no point in people blasting ozzie for the time he spent in Chicago. It's not his fault Dunn and Rios sucked last year, it really isn't. He supported those guys and kept playing them and they failed him. Big deal. He's a grown man, as I said. He also gave Jenks every chance to succeed and Sergio and sometimes yes they failed him too. He was a great White Sox through and through and now I want us to win with Robin. I don't feel sorry for Ozzie and his millions of dollars. I do stand up for him when he is unfairly attacked for his years in chicago.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) greg's problem is that his love for Ozzie (aka 2005) has blinded him from facts and logic. He sees everybody taking shots (justified or not) at his hero and doesn't know what else to do other than to defend his guy. Personally, I've never seen somebody so obsessed with a manager. Players? Sure. But not a manager. And where greg kinda loses points is that the Sox have at worst a 50% chance of winning the division THIS YEAR. With Robin in charge and not Ozzie. I think there's part of him that doesn't want that to happen because he loves Ozzie so much and that would be the ultimate, "see, Ozzie was the problem," and he'd have to eat it and admit he was wrong. Nobody knows better than me what it's liked to get ganged up on. But I admit when I'm wrong. I don't think greg wants to do that. I got nothing against Robin. I liked him as a player and he's doing a fine job. The team remains inconsistent but there still is the chance the team could become an elite one this season. Honestly I don't care what Miami does. I really would prefer not playing Miami in the WS though. Ozzie might find a way to beat us. I'd rather play Washington.
