QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 9, 2012 -> 08:25 PM) Maybe your religion says to treat women equally, but the faith they have known since birth tells them differently. Who are you to say that yours is right and theirs is wrong? They would probably call you a cretan for letting a woman make a decision for you in your life. It's the only thing they know. But you said treating them like "animals." That is pretty harsh to me. If you stand by that wording, I stand by my responses.

TRUE STORY: I know a guy who has a beautiful wife and 4 kids, three of whom they adopted from impoverished countries. He goes to inner city Chicago and hands out 100 dollar bills to homeless people a few times a month. He is coach of his kids' teams and he is a doctor. He believes the Bible and reads the Bible. He drops the word "God" in conversation every third sentence or so. he does this all for God. Is he crazy? Is he a saint? You make the call.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 9, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) Greg, 1) You dont need a god to not cheat on your wife, and in fact many godly people do far more than cheat on their wife (Id say a priest cheating on god with a little boy fits that bill), cheating on your wife, or your girlfriend, is a personal choice and it depends on what type of person you are. Why not go nuts here? Because I would have to live with the consequences of my actions. If I spend foolishly or do something to cripple myself financially, I would have ruined my life. I cant go to bed at night clinging to the idea that "Its easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven", I cant somehow rationalize my failure as "Gods will" or not to worry because "its part of Gods plan." If I fail, if I do something stupid, I have to batten down the hatches and fix it, because there isnt some unwordly power that will intervene on my behalf. 2) For many years people believed that Aristotle was right, just because people believe it doesnt mean its true. In fact religion is based on "belief" and not "fact", the entire idea is that there is actually no evidence and therefore to be a true believer you must have "faith" in something that cant be proven. Its great circular logic. 3) You still havent answered any questions about beliefs that the church holds to this day which are outdated and completely unfounded. 4) Why would it be wasted? Loving my family, children, pets has nothing to do with God or heaven, it has to do with our relationship in this world, no matter what I may think about the next, it doesnt change here and now. Thought provoking post. I'll have to think about it some more before commenting. Also well written. Interesting how some people go out of their way to have perfect punctuation and caps on the internet and some like me just write quickly to get it posted ASAP.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 9, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) The Bible wasn't designed as a tool. Science has done an excellent job of furthering human knowledge about God's creation. Amazing actually. Good post.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 9, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) Depends on what media you listen/watch. Some media blames Obama for everything, other media doesnt. And there are opponents who could beat Obama, they just likely would never get out of the primary. I don't mean the radical talk show hosts like Rush. They don't count. Voters don't care about them. I mean the regular media; newscasters in every town; newspaper/website reporters, etc., who throw him softballs and have the glazed-eye look when they interview him. And national reporters at the press conferences, etc., the ones who daily shape how he's viewed nationally.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) I'd prefer to live out my years in freedom with the people I love than in a cell. I don't need "God" to keep me from doing crazy things. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Ha! Maybe one or two things were fashioned around truth, but, um - no. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) Ah, so they are cretans because their religion differs from yours? QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) To answer your question, no, I do not live wildly. Even when I was younger I always knew where to draw the line when partying, etc. I never said it means nothing. It absolutely means something. But there doesn't have to be a "heaven" at the end of journey to make the journey itself meaningful. The act of living, in and of itself, is already meaningful. After this life is over, I know my energy doesn't just "disappear", and if it makes you feel better to call the next place it goes "heaven", by all means, do so. Personally, I believe we are returned to the universe around us, not as some sort of ghost or specter, but as general energy which will again be recycled by the universe to create new life, or non-life alike. Whatever happens, I will not spend my life worrying about what "might" happen when this journey ends...there is too much to miss right here, right now, to worry about that. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) They would say the same thing about you. There are doctors, engineers, scientists, etc. that feel that way about women because of their religion, yet I wouldn't call them unintelligent. 1.) It doesn't have to be illegal to be a life of debauchery. You don't need to end up in a cell. Just drink every night. Cheat on the wife constantly, etc. I mean if when you die, boom it's ova, why not just go nuts here? Buy big houses, boats, cars even if they eventually get repossessed. Take zillions of risks professionally. Hitchhike to California for a month and see what happens there. 2.) Why would you diss the Bible? Many of us listen to the Old and New testament weekly at Mass and believe it and know all the stories and believe them. Why don't you consider investing in the "word of God?" Some intelligent people drop God's name every third sentence or so they utter on a daily basis. Are they crazy? You've probably met those. Are they completely off base? Thanking God, talking about God, etc. 3.) No, he worded how they feel about women pretty strongly. That they should be treated like animals. I think they takes away the fact they might be "intelligent" and puts them in cretan category. Don't you? I mean if you think a woman should be treated as an "animal" you are not intelligent. Right? 4.) I guess I can accept your take the best. However, we are returned as "energy" but have no recollection of our past life and the people we knew here? Doesn't that concern doting parents who live their lives through their children and watch their every move 24 hours a day? Isn't all that energy wasted since upon death you will never see your kids again?? 5.) See earlier answer on cretans.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) I don't see Obama losing this election. You're right about the economy being bad, but that has been building for a long time. I hate political arguments, but I've had discussions about the economy and the president with my brother in-law several times. He's a "anybody but Obama" guy...well to be fair, he's a "anybody but a democrat" guy, and he constantly argues that a republican president would turn the economy around. I argue that the president can only do so much, and there has bene so much damage done to the economy for many many years. And to put my own two cents worth in, how can lower to middle class people believe that a guy like Romney would help them? As far as your second question, no I do not believe we will forever have a black president. I do believe that we will eventually see a women president and a hispanic president. And, I believe that a "minority" candidate would have a leg up, but they wouldn't necessarily be a lock...especially as time goes on Has Obama been great or the media, as expected, been easy on him? I mean I get the feeling he just blames the economy on somebody else and the media worships him and that's that ... four more years in a landslide no matter who the opponent would be.

greg775 replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He wants to be a starter. He's been a success as a starter so far. He knows his arm better than anybody. START HIM!! If he's not ready to start in the big leagues, start him in the minors. Is it THAT difficult White Sox?? -
Fukudome complains to Japanese press about sitting
greg775 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't see the controversy. I think he actually should be playing more. But he was just talking to the japanese reporters. Why wouldn't he want more at bats? Robin seemed to be OK with it on whitesox.com -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2012 -> 11:53 PM) How do you account for the fact so many intelligent people in the world believe women should be basically treated like animals and deserve zero rights whatsoever? What intelligent people believe that? I'd call them cretans, not intelligent.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2012 -> 03:32 AM) People think its fun to drop the sky is falling crap because they never get called out for it when theyre embarrassingly, pathetically, foolishly wrong. The way the team has been pissing away games, they do not deserve the benefit of the doubt from fans. If and when they stabilize the program, they can expect fans to believe and not blast them whenever they can. I don't take back anything I said in the game thread. I do congratulate Rios for his blast and Reed for his closing work. And Danks for a good start.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:14 AM) Sigh. What is your point. If the Sox stabilize their performance a bit maybe some of us will come off the ledge and shut up more during games. The team deserved the meltdown as it deserves praise for the nice win. Remember if Santiago gives up one more hit, this is another crushing loss.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:09 AM) Now please name Reed the closer, figure out what to do with Sale, Santiago to AAA and Thornton dealt to the highest bidder. Sounds reasonable to me. I'd say the biggest thing is let Reed close when we have a lead in the ninth.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:08 AM) or gets caught at a bar The only guy in the sport that gets massacred for every single drink. I understand the past, but it's still kind of odd. Seems like it should be private unless it affects his play I think it's in his contract or something he can't drink. His past is so bad that the team has addressed the issue.
-
Reed has got to be the closer. Sale just another setup guy. 2 outs.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:57 AM) Shouldn't you be telling us how the Indians are going to win this or was that only cool last inning? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:58 AM) I thought you gave up last inning when the inevitable walk-off transpired. Nice slide by Rios. This game isn't over yet, BTW. As far as your other comments, I've told you before. ... I never said I was a good fan. I am a fan though.
-
Rios back on track again finding the gap. He was all over that pitch.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:51 AM) Regardless of the results I have to believe these guys are trying as hard as they can to do good and win games. Good for Hector S to come through That's because you are the best fan I've ever seen. I don't know how this team has not driven you insane and gotten to you as it has many of us. I'd be OK if it would just act normal once in a while; you know, win at home, go .480 on the road, not lose so many heartbreakers, etc.
-
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) Jesus Christ Santiago is AWFUL. Yeah, but he got out of it. If Stewart comes in next can we survive that?
-
Santiago looks s***ty vs. lefties even. Our team blows.
-
I repeat: Why do the White Sox never win games like this at home? Two outs and bam ... Indians to break the tie.
-
LOL. Here comes the two-out victory for Cleveland.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:40 AM) Padres should be in good shape to get the first pick. They're pitching Suppan in starting rotation and Kotsay batted 2nd for them the other day. So Pads, Minnie, then probably the Sox?
-
Now that the Sox have come down to earth and suck on the road, this team's record could plummet into vying for the a top three draft pick in a hurry. Minnie is prolly the only worse team in the AL.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 9, 2012 -> 01:25 AM) You can see it coming for miles. It's actually funny. It is funny. Now that I've given up on the team it's much easier to take and just laugh at the ineptitude of this team the last 2 seasons and six weeks. Here comes the walkoff. Suddenly the Indians own the White Sox. Way to blow a late three-run lead, White Sox. Here come da walkoff.
