  1. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) We are in big trouble with this bullpen...big trouble. I think so too, unless Jenks gets it together soon and McCarthy is good out there right off the bat.
  2. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 02:28 AM) florida! Going down to Villanova.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) But Sports Talk will always live here. Until you crash the site, again.
  4. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) set recruiting to 'assisted', that'll make your assistants do alot of the phone calls and emails and such. Use your target list Try and add fresh-sophs-juniors to your target list, that way they have a bigger interest in you when they're seniors. Just use trial and error, you'll get the hang of it. Yea, I guess it takes a while to get the hang of it because I'm not getting anyone. Maybe its because I'm using Mike Davis.
  5. This is somewhat off-topic, but is Willie going to make the Red Sox?

  7. Also, the Mark Few saga is heating up once again: http://159.54.227.3/apps/pbcs.dll/article?.../603250312/1002 Few is not denying interest in Indiana and personally I think he is very much in the mix for the job.
  8. Beilein the favorite? From today's Boston Globe: http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/mens...k_at_pc/?page=2 I must say that I do like Beilein a lot. He is a class guy, but I don't know if he can adjust his style accordingly for the Big 10. That said, the guy took West Virginia to the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16 in back to back years so he obviously knows what he is doing. It would also make sense from the standpoint that Pittsnogle, Gansey, Herber and his own son Patrick will be gone from the program and the roster will be scarce there next year. Right now I would put him as someone I would embrace, but he's not my first choice.
  9. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) it's definitely going to be a rough start, that's for sure. I guess it's better to have a weakness at the back end of your bullpen than at the back end of your rotation though. That is true, but I don't want the starters having to throw 7 or 8 innings every game, especially to start off the season. That could be troublesome later in the season. Garland and Buehrle can do it, but you don't want higher pitch count guys like Freddy and Vaz throwing a lot of innings early on. Also, it will be interesting to see if the WBC has any effect on their stamina as the season rolls on. I don't think it will.
  10. All I can say is that if Jenks takes a while to round into shape, we're going to be thin in the pen with only Cotts and Politte as reliable guys. I like B-Mac in the pen, but no one really knows how he will fare until he adjusts to pitching out of the pen full-time.
  11. He better get into shape rather quickly. Keep him on the treadmill for at least a hour a day.
  12. KW, time to work the phones. We need pen help. Do your thing.
  13. I just started playing this recently, what is the key to recruiting on this game? Can someone please help me out with this?
  14. I have to agree with Rowand and say I believe Hermy is done. Hopefully KW is planning for this and will make a move accordingly. I'd say he'll think about it over the next few days and then let the Sox know either way so they can move on with this. Hopefully I am wrong, but I don't think its something Hermy wants to do for another season.
  15. Let's sign Jose Paniagua, Mike Jackson and Billy Koch
  16. I think this year will show whether Honel will be a prospect for the Sox once again or not. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to agree with Jason's long time view on Honel and that is he's just not going to pan out. As Cheat said, don't count on him this year. In fact, I'm not counting on him ever reaching the bigs with the Sox. Another first round bust IMO.
  17. Why anyone would listen to anything that Doyel says is beyond me. He might be the worst college basketball writer on the net and I don't think that's a stretch. The guy makes stuff up until he gets it right and really has no sources. Sad really.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) I do believe the ISU-Kansas basketball games were voted the biggest rivalry on ESPN SportsNation. Maybe it did, but I wouldn't consider it one of the five best rivalries in college basketball. The top two that come to mind for me are: UNC - Duke IU - Kentucky
  19. I've noticed a lot of Iowa fans are quite sensitive around here, most notably, Jason Gage.
  20. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) I remember I thought DJ was bad when he first started but Singleton has to be the worst announcer ever. You would think that they would have to have some sort of tryout before they are hired. It's called getting the cheapest option possible. Obviously, he was it. No other rationale to hire a hack in the booth like him. Nothing against Chris personally, he is a great person and all, I am sure he is trying his best, but he's just not any good.
  21. Singleton is terrible. I am actually debating on whether I should even keep XM this year. Yes, he is that bad. He'd better improve and improve fast.
  22. Bruce Levine: "Barry Bonds reportedly used steroids to help enhance his statistics over the past few seasons."
  23. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Now that I have some free time, I'll be doing a weekly column for the site (I may even do two a week) tenatively called "Boz Knows" as well as appearing every now and then on the weekly podcast. Who knows I may even get a podcast of my own eventually or team with someone else from the site. Looking forward to getting some interviews and articles with some of the guys from Charlotte this summer as well. It should be fun.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) Yeah they actually do play defense in the NBA, unless of course you know, your team sucks (man I love that no defense in the NBA myth). And I'm not saying he's a poor athlete as in he's white, I'm saying he's a poor athlete as in he's a TERRIBLE athlete, regardless of what color his skin is. Matt Harpring is a triathlete compared to Morrison. Put Morrison at the 3 in the NBA and he's going to give up 30 to whoever he's guarding most nights since most teams have somebody at the 3 that can light it up, oh and they are 6'9 too so Morrison will have to actually create space in order to get a shot. I do agree with you that he won't have to rebound much, and he will have a decent NBA career....but he's not going to be nearly as good as a top 3 pick in terms of how he performs in the NBA. I guess this is why NBA GM's get paid to make these type of decisions. I'm sure they'll consider your scouting report posted on Soxtalk.com if they want to choose between Morrison, Gay or Thomas.
  25. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Morrison is a pathetic defender, a piss poor athlete, a below average rebounder, and has major stamina issues. He does very well and is creative getting his own shot, but who the hell can block a 6'9 guy with long arms when he's shooting with a high release point in college?? He's a great college player, but his game doesn't translate at all to the NBA. Wait, they play defense in the NBA? Piss poor athlete, so are a lot of white players. Is Matt Harpring a good athlete? He can still get his shot off in the NBA and he's not half the player Morrison is. Maybe he has stamina issues because he plays 40 mins a game and has people all over him all night. He will play the 3 in the NBA, he won't have to rebound all that much and should be able to get his shot off pretty well. A solid second option for a team, that's for sure.
