  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) I'd want him to replace Kotsay on the 25 man roster, and mainly DH with Jones playing more in the OF with at least a platoon split with Pierre at CF. Would Dye even sign to be a part time DH though? I don't think he would.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) It's scary how far you guys are willing to go to defend the rights of a few people to ruin the lives of everyone else. As opposed to defending the rights of a few people to tell everyone what they can and can not do.
  3. hockeyfights.com is a site that has a 'Thanks' button feature on their forum. Just an FYI to who said they saw it somewhere else.
  4. Anyone pick up the FIFA World Cup game? I'm thinking of grabbing after work today.
  5. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 12:21 AM) Obama's quote: "We’re not, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money. But, you know, part of the American way is, you know, you can just keep on making it if you’re providing a good product or providing good service. We don’t want people to stop, ah, fulfilling the core responsibilities of the financial system to help grow our economy." Are you guys serious? Who out there doesn't think that at some point more riches won't help an individual. Besides he adds, "keep on making it [money] if you’re providing a good product or providing good service." In addition, if you listen to the to the quote he says it in his jokey/casual way. You can complain about his policies or that they unfairly burden the wealthy job creators all you want. But this quote doesn't mean s***. I don't trust someone who doesn't at some point realize that more money doesn't really help you, and make your life better. But as Obama states, if you're creating a good product/service (think jobs), all the power to you! WRONG. Of course, after a certain point you dont need anymore, but who are you or anyone else to say when a person has made enough? Does Bill Gates need a yacht, or private plane of a ridiculous house? No, but he has them because of his enormous wealth. Does he need to put his kids/grandkids/whoever else through college? No, but he can because of his wealth. Does he need to donate tens of millions of dollars to charity? No, but he can because of his wealth and so on... 99.99% of people will never know what it is like to be worry free about money, but that doesnt mean those that do should ever be capped because they are "fine how they are already".
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) The difference with the Yankees is probably that there are a lot of people who like them. Right, but almost all of New England hates them, a third of the NY metro area hates them and a good portion of the rest of the country hates them. Any list that doesn't have them and the Red Sox at 1-2 (or 2-1) is a flawed list IMO.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) A bad year, yes. But no one would have projected he'd drop off a hundred damn points from his career average. Glad to see him moving to 9th, and unless he's hurt, I am 99.9% sure he'll start hitting fairly soon. I am too. People decline as they get into their 30's but at only 33 to fall so steeply just doesn't usually happen barring injury. As bad as he's been I just refuse to believe he has lost it. His speed still looks pretty good and I would be shocked if he doesn't pick it up as the year goes on. I'm sure he's pressing right now and is as upset with himself as the rest of us are.
  8. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) What if Quentin goes to the DL, which is not out of the question considering his history. Who would the Sox bring up? Danks2? I'd bring up Gartrell, especially since he probably wouldn't be playing every day. Let Danks continue to play, and hopefully improve, down in Charlotte some more.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) Beckham should leadoff. Emphasize you aren't looking for a protypical leadoff man, just go up to the plate and hit. No he should not. He's not hitting right now and the last thing we need is to f*** around with him and more and put him in an unfamiliar role. Additionally, he's one of our better run producing threats and placing him in the leadoff role would minimize that part of his game. Honestly I think our best option is Rios but i have no problem with Teahen the way he's playing right now.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) I'm going home for the weeked so i'll actually be able to watch these games. Sadly, no one can spare me from Michael Kay and the YES network. I actually don't mind Kay or Singleton at all. It's Leiter and O'Neill that make it almost unbearable. It's clear they do zero homework before visiting teams not named Boston play the Yankee$ and they are totally useless IMO. And they've become much better since Susan Waldman has taken a lesser role.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Can't believe Kotsay's going to get another start tomorrow, and this time against a LHP. Quentin is out and Pierre is being benched. That leaves who else to play? (I guess we could shift Teahen to the OF and play Nix but it's not like we have other choices right now) edit: actually Nix and Kotsay are probably both going to play since our bench is only 4 men. Lucy won't start (unless he's catching) and I'd rtaher have Kotsay play over Vizquel
  12. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) Rickey Henderson did it 81 times. He was truly one of a kind though.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 12:04 AM) Ozzie decision to bunt in the 7th inning with 0 outs and men on 1st and 2nd was almost unanimously panned in the game thread due to the fact that Pierre was the next batter. Alexei successfully bunted both runners into scoring position. Pierre promptly popped out but both runners eventually scored on a wild pitch plus wild throw into the dugout by the Ranger catcher. I saw one poster admit it was the right call for anyone but Pierre. It was probably the right call regardless of who was batting. A successful bunt puts 2 men in scoring position with just 1 out and kept us out of the DP which we have hit into many times. Some would say that Ozzie lucked into the 2 runs but as Branch Rickey once said " luck is the residue of design" and clearly the design was better with men at 2nd and 3rd with one out than to risk a DP. That was me. With the way we have been hitting, putting a runner at 3rd with less than 2 outs seemed to be a more likely scenario to score him as a SF would have gotten the job done. However, since Pierre has about the same power as this guy, I would not have done it there and just hoped Alexei didnt bounce into a DP. I know this is the AL and not the NL, but in the 7th or later and you have a chance to tie the game like that I think you take it, especially when we have been struggling to get hits in general.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) Great! Maybe once he stops letting men on, we can depend on him. Wow i thought the game was over after Ramirez struck out and went away. Forgot Vladdy reached.
  15. even though he's hitless, Andruw Jones has had some pretty good at bats today and wow Konerko you are ridiculous
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Pierre is french for "Suck" it's actually french for "rock" (or Peter)
  17. that was one of the biggest gifts on an inning ive seen in a while
  18. If it was almost anyone other than Pierre that's not a bad call.
  19. I'm so glad i decided to order MLB.tv on a monthly basis instead of being locked in for the whole year
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) WHY WOULD ANYONE BE AFRAID OF GUERRERO when our own GM didn't want to sign him, nor did most SoxTalk posters. Everyone said he was done, washed up, injury-prone, lost bat speed....now he's the most dangerous hitter in baseball again? You are the only one saying this. Saying repeatedly does not change that.
