These times make me feel like it really pays to be in a position that is essential, like a trade, health care, in particular nursing, or in a public service. I feel non essential working in insurance, which is why I’m glad I’m leaving my company if people are hiring this summer, since my graduate degree will be paid for. Now I just hope we don’t get restricted anymore out using our work computer outside business hours so I can finish my project and class work by next Friday. I know, I should have a computer of my own but I did the rest of my grad degree on my computer without any issue and then this comes along.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Like what? raBBit made me nervous in the other thread about job loss and I can only stockpile two weeks of food if I am lucky. I can’t find paper products anywhere either.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I wonder how many incumbents get voted out with poor turnout?- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Yep, me too. All of these fucking people in DuPage county must love to shit. I even tried calling to see when shipments of toilet paper are coming in and nobody had a good answer. The stores are empty.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread

I’m not a moderator but relax. The discourse has been civil, relevant and interesting. Health, politics, foreign policy and the economy - all of these factors are germane to the discussion.- Market/Financial Thread
I have never been involved with the stock market but I have thought about investing. I will probably speak to a financial advisor about some low risk options, but in the meantime, I was considering buying one or a few of these stocks to invest in. What would anyone suggest for how to go about doing this and what to buy? Abbvie Procter and Gamble UPS Wells Fargo Gilead Kroger Costco Walmart AutoZone Netflix- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Eventually the new(er) generation will take hold. I’m aware of the fact that old men will win this election, but I am confident the tide will shift as demographics shift in 2024.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Age will catch up to people like him. Eventually, maybe term limits will stop fossils that are assholes just like him.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I can’t imagine what it must feel like. How do you get things to eat? Are you over there temporarily or permanently? I can’t imagine what things will be like without entertainment or sports. I would love to see them take up the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill and talk health care and if they were to get something done, I’d go out on a limb to say that Trump would get re-elected.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Agreed with you on your last statement, but didn’t the Turtle just reverse course? https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/12/politics/congress-recess-canceled/index.html Also, because my Fox News loving friend at the office keeps mentioning it, what do we think about the virus stopping as the weather gets warmer? He keeps mentioning the fact that it is convenient that this virus is coming up now during an election year (I find that to be complete horseshit) so I want to change the subject on him. Also, one of my friends at work sent me a hunting forum that he reads and gets a kick out of. I thought I’d share that too: https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/7756234/coronavirus#Post7756234- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
You know what goes great with Coronavirus?- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Park Park mentioned it on 670 and Bernstein has a relative who tested positive for it. Some idiot called in and classic Bernstein ensued. It was awesome.- COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I work from home two days a week and go into the office three days a week. I am in a remote office at a job I could do in my sleep but do for the time being to get a bonus and collect tuition reimbursement for the remainder of my master’s program. I would prefer not to stay home all of the time. Even with political podcasts and sports radio on, it’s tough working from home every day and even gets lonely. I would much rather have a varied schedule for some sense of normalcy while I wait to finish my masters degree, wait until the end of July hits and leave. Edit: I’ll probably keep riding the BNSF line until things start to get really bad.- Job Thread
I would find a way to take the position for a year, get the skills under your belt, take the hit financially and then leave for somewhere else once you have gotten the experience. It’s easier said than done but those are my initial thoughts.- Job Thread
How significant would the pay cut be and could you manage? Would the skills you obtain help you after a year of employment and would that give you enough to use those skills at another company making more money? And is there a chance to counter for some more money?- Job Thread
Wasn’t Trump trying to do something like this with hospitals in terms of price transparency? It was one of the only things I applauded him for, even if it will be fought in courts.- White Sox Spring Training Thread
I heard some players were injured headed into camp but they weren’t major injuries. Grandal was one of them. Are they something to be concerned about in terms of missed time? Also has there been any updates on Jake Burger?- Job Thread
For some people, they do fall into their work instead of picking their career.- Job Thread
I would love to hear more about the 403(b) and your last post on healthcare. Very interesting stuff.- Job Thread
This is the kind of reason why I feel the Filibuster should come back. To debate and discuss is one thing but to flame and bash is another thing. As an independent moderate who is passionate about politics I have heard from the most liberal and conservative people and though I don’t always agree, it is healthy to have these discussions if done in a respectful way. I’m glad both of you guys got to talk things out over PMs. That might be our only option for political talk on this site.- Job Thread
True and pensions are definitely a tough issue, even though I am worried my wife won’t ever see her pension because of the unfunded pensions in Illinois, the loopholes in how people can get them from multiple jobs (retired from one, working another) and the fact that the state can’t reduce the 3% COLA or change benefits. My concern is mostly with these reasons and the administrators, along with those leaving the state. So I guess we will have to contribute to an IRA or 403(b) for her retirement. Benefits are definitely a fascinating topic even if they are debatable in Illinois.- Job Thread
The cost and the benefits that unions bargained for their members. My wife is a teacher and I work in insurance, so I have a bit of an idea on what schools and union employees get. These benefits matter.- Betts to Dodgers
Better than whining after the offseason they had, and I didn’t like the Mazara trade. Long story short, they probably didn’t have anything to give up to get Betts and Hahn probably didn’t want to give up something for Joc in the short term. - COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
