  1. Seems like they are dealing from a position of strength and this move will become clearer as the day unfolds with other cuts and additions into next week.
  2. I still think the Cubs could make a deep playoff run even if they don’t catch the Brewers.
  3. I don’t think Audacy is doing very well and I read 104.3 the Score is not doing well in the morning spot. Moving on from Mully is probably financial. Harris wasn’t really a fit, that show needed a driver when they got rid of Bernstein. I haven’t listened to the Score much since Bernstein got fired, but only tune in to listen to Spiegs (who I met at the Ozzie Guillen number retirement game) and Haugh. I mostly just listen to Bernstein and Abbatacola now.
  4. They should have challenged that pitch and the one they challenged was a waste. I wasn’t sure why they didn’t put the bunt down with Acuna on base and nobody out. Take the base and get two bites at the apple. They needed six hard outs after they took the lead and couldn’t get them. The lack of a defined closer and a bullpen that gets used without definitive starters makes this team fragile at times. At least they were competitive tonight after being down early. Not a great night offensively and Castillo needed to be better.
  5. I have enjoyed DJ on the radio and on TV. I like Stone to a point but I would like him to be replaced soon. Schriffen drives me crazy and I mute him. Kasper is outstanding.
  6. If they score here I have him go one more.
  7. What was he drafted as? This isn’t the same kind of situation at all, but Johnny Cueto was a veteran pitcher who came in and performed well in 2022. Maybe Castillo turns it around.
  8. After digesting the views on this thread and thinking about Castillo’s contract versus what they gave up for him and what may happen in 2027, I’m indifferent on this move. The cash they are spending may not make sense if they are tapped out after this. They should have more to spend but we will see. I want to see how Castillo performs because he has had some positive starts this year despite his high ERA and getting lit up in other outings. I don’t like giving up Boston Smith, but he is 23, they do have some catchers when Teel is healthy and can still make a move for a catcher at the deadline. Trading Dominguez after signing him this offseason and not having him be completely effective as a closer is fine with me. I want to see the larger picture when Getz is finished at this deadline, see what other teams gave up for pitching and see where they are at by the end of the year before I judge this trade even further.
  9. Where’s the old Kenny Williams with his hands up gif when you need it?
  10. I am of the mindset that if there is a work stoppage in 2027, it makes more sense to hold on to prospects and go on a race to the playoffs with what they have. It seems like that makes more sense than trading away the farm for pitching or catchers with at least a year left on their deal. Having said that I could be talked into trading from the infielders in the system for starting pitching under contract.
  11. I meant that they showed the first pick and Thome pick but not the others.
  12. They were proud to announce the Thome pick during the game and didn’t show any of the other picks despite the first pick. The alumni home run derby took too long to get going after the game. Keep the jokes in about the chronic masturbator who did it in his car instead of his home.
  13. I wish I understood the draft to understand how some players would save from a slot standpoint depending on who is selected with a pick. Like someone mentioned how selecting Lackey would save money at 1-1 compared to the other dudes. To Bob’s point, I want them to have ammo to trade for starting pitching, preferably with a contract that goes into 2028.
  14. Kasper sounds lonely on the broadcast. Is DJ okay? Also they said something about the home run derby tomorrow, Ramirez got replaced with…Brian Anderson?
  15. The tarp off people were at the Rays game I went to in Tampa. That crowd was super loud. Made up of 50 guys in left field and they could be heard throughout the park.
  16. I opened the ESPN Chicago app and the game is now considered blacked out in my area. So I have to listen to an old radio to listen to the game on the radio? That’s new.
  17. They can push lawmakers into a special session but I think there’s something to be said about taking time to get the legislation right so that the taxpayers aren’t getting a crappy deal. Rushing to pass legislation before the state budget deadline seems like a bad idea. Kevin Warren is useless because he messed around with Chicago as an option for too long instead of working on securing Arlington Heights. Among other reasons.
  18. I know what the Schefter tweet and this statement says but I don’t think it is over yet. Still seems like posturing to me. Kevin Warren is useless.
